How is it land grabbing? There are hundreds of such lands lying fallow all over the country. At least these ones are not the so-called ungoverned spaces

But Waec is not yet CBT based as the report claimed. Only few schools have started. Can't wait for it to go fully CBT to give the true picture of students' capabilities

I know people will come for Donald Duke for putting out his candid opinion about the road. The most lame of arguments they posit is that why hasn't Duke(and other critics) criticized the Sokoto-Badagry road. For God's sake, Duke is from Cross River and it's natural for him to speak for a road that's closest to him. His argument is something we have been saying since the controversial kick-off of this project. It doesn't make economic sense for a govt to spend 15 trillion Naira to build a virgin road while the current road(which is in a bad state) already connects major population centres in that corridor can be fixed with less than 5 trillion Naira. Additionally, a coastal road through Niger Delta states would pose perhaps the biggest civil engineering challenge in Nigeria because of the terrain. Duke's guess of 200 bridges is no exaggeration. Just go to Warri which is about 70km inland from the coast, and you'd see the long bridges between DSC roundabout and DSC. That's just a tip of the iceberg of the situation at the coast.
Deep inside me, I believe Tinubu's intent about the LCCR is just the Lagos and perhaps Ogun and Ondo sections. He only lumped it to Calabar to give legitimacy and deceive the south south leaders.
Now let me move to the Sokoto-Badagry road project. Although it won't cost as much as the LCCR because of the relatively favorable terrain, it is also a non-priority that many of us have been criticizing since its inception. Take a look at the Google Map picture here showing the current road routes from Ilela to Badagry. The first option via Kontagora is 1,074km but is estimated to take 19hours. The other route is through Kaiama is 1,114 km with an estimated duration of about 19 hours. Even these durations are quite conservative. A normal journey(on a good road) of such distance should take 11-13hours with an average speed of 80-100kmph. In contrast, The SBR is also about 1000 km. So, so why embark on this new road when the current ones are almost of same distance and connect even more important towns? I guesstimate that a 2 trillion Naira would bring the existing roads to a motorable condition. It remains mind-boggling why BAT is hellbent on continuing such project. Or is it the Chagoury theory?

Power supply to public institutions hits its lowest in the past 3 years because of the Band A issue. Even federal teaching hospitals can not pay for electricity because it is too expensive. Some of these hospitals used to enjoy almost 24 hours of electricity. So, even if they start getting constant power by 2027(which is actually an audio promise), it's not an achievement but just taking them back from a position they were 5 years before. We shall not be bamboozled

It's a good that they are reconstructing the road, but we ask: at what rate? This govt can be quite deceptive in reporting the progress of projects. A road can be 200km long and they'd want to bamboozle the public for reconstructing only 10km out of it in more than 3 years! Oshiomhole is the senator representing Auchi zone and he recently railed against Umahi(indirectly, Tinubu) for failing Edo state because all the roads into the state are terrible. If Benin to Auchi road was good, he would have said. There is no airport in Auchi thus I believe he's forced to use the terrible roads.

Another pinter to our terrible national planning. How does the FG go about funding intracity railway when most states are not connected by railway. Some do not even have good roads leading their capitals. Among the three projects, only that of Lagos can be justified and even that shouldn't be funded by FG just like the blue and red lines. At best, the FG should invest a minority percentage in the project and collect the returns over the years.

It would interest you to know the road(s) between the nation's top cities of Abuja and Lagos is in a terrible state. There is also no railway connecting the two cities. So why would 3 billion dollars be expended in far less important metro projects. GEJ built the Abuja-Kaduna leg of the proposed Lagos-Kano standard gauge railway. Buhari built Lagos to Ibadan railway and kicked off the Kano-Kaduna segment which has now achieved significant progress. The remaining leg is the critical Ibadan-Ilorin - Abuja. I'm pretty sure that the amount set side for this project will take this project to some significant completion.

There is also the Warri-Itakpe line which seriously needs an extension to Abuja to ease the sufferings of motorists travelling to and from south-south.

I remember one of my bosses then who said he didn't do pry and secondary and I asked how he did things? He told me he just was doing home schooling and when it got to writing GCE, he wrote it as an external student. He should be in his 60s and worked well as government official. Maybe it's same with oga at the top, but he didn't really defend how he got into Chicago university ( probably with direct entry with his late 'sister' as a 'helper')..... Definitely he could be a smart student in class and actually graduated with his Chicago degree.

As for oga Adamawa, possibly he got a professional certificate first with years of experience, which qualified for MSc program/ degree.

They have only set a flexible standard for others after them to follow.

Even if it's homeschooling(which I don't think the govt even recognizes) , one has to get an anchor school to get a primary certificate. Perhaps spend the last year of the primary school.

This is a good move. But they key thing is that it should work. 8 Division in Sokoto was created to fight banditry in the northwest but I don't think it has achieved significant progress. Scores of people continue to be killed and kidnapped on a daily basis.

Not only soldiers please, other uniformed personnel should be included proportional to their contribution to nation's security. Even as it stands today, soldiers enjoy better welfare compared to the police because they do have provisions for accommodation, uniforms, regular trainings and duty allowances. No matter how sophisticated a country's military is, it would not achieve significant progress without an efficient police force.

All in all, the government should look at improving the minimum wage for all its workers.

From my observation, Europeans hardly care about first class or 2.1. But Americans do celebrate magna cum l'aide or summa cum laude etc. But in general, they care more about the impacts of the degrees than the classes of degree.

Government should have allowed bulk cement imports specifically for the road and other mega usage to stabilize the chaotic cement market. Of all the building materials. Obasanjo did it in his time. Likewise YarAdua also did same when Dangote wanted to try all this his nonsense with him. Trust YarAdua, a no nonsense President. I wholeheartedly support local industries like BUA and Dangote but there has to be a honest conversation around fair prices. In a country with deep housing deficits, affordable cement price is a key catalyst to expansion of the real estate segment of the economy.

What must have slipped the attention of many is that there is no proportional expansion of cement production lines compared to the increased utilisation of cement especially for roads. Most FG roads are now been built on rigid(concrete) pavement thus spiking cement demand. And when you have such increase in demand without commensurate adjustment in the supply side, there is a potential for price increase or manipulation. It's the job of the government to determine whether such supply gaps truly exist and how wide they are, and allow some controlled imports to balance the markets.

Constituency projects is the passive bribe the executive allows the legislature to insert projects in order to have peace. Buhari tried fighting it and he didn't succeed. It appears that Tinubu doesn't even care because the worst budget abuse is happening under his nose

Compulsion shouldn't be the way to go here. Though I believe that the father wants to get the best for his daughter. There are many ladies out there who are in the habit of 'date and drop'. Federal ministries are not given capital budget locations yet the unconstitutional first lady is doling out billions every other day. If she's funding it from a pet charity project, the public needs to know the amount collected and the major donors. A couple of years back, we were told that she would use monies collected as birthday gifts to fund the completion of the stalled national library project. Perhaps that one has become another audio promise.

One can't imagine the backlash from the Southwest media houses if this suspicious gift-giving was been done by Patience Jonathan or Aisha Buhari. Yusuf Buhari wasn't meddling into government affairs yet his unfortunate bike accident was blown out of proportion by the media. But now we have a president's son who many quarters argue that he's even more powerful than the vice president but almost no pundit talks about it. The trend is unfortunate because it's happening under someone who boasts to be a fighter for democracy, but paradoxically doing too many acts clashing with the very tenets of democracy.

Lagos-Ibadan media doing their usual work forgetting thir paymaster Tinubu is worse than Buhari in almost all ramifications. Buhari was far more democratic and never intruded into the operations of opposition parties.

The another issue is the matter of recruitment of only indigenes. This doesn't apply to Taraba only but almost all states. There are people who were born and have contributed to the building of such states, but will be denied opportunities just because they are not indigenous. This is an area where people like Elrufai stand out. He employs residents of the state whether they are indigenous or not. The 25,000 teachers he recruited were from almost all states of the federation. This is an approach that each state should take. You can give say 70% to your indigenes and allow the rest to be filled by competent non-indigenes. We cannot be shouting against the xenophobic south Africans and racist whites while we are doing a similar thing to ourselves at home. We all see how our compatriots move to other countries and become full citizens in few years but here you can spend 100 years in a place yet considered an outsider and worse you're denied opportunities.

The concession in itself is not a problem. But everyone knows the alumni will invest for at least some profit. Thus, children of the poor man would have no place in such colleges
