SOLD

Name: Deep//Lumen [COM]
SP: $3888 (counter-offer)
Venue: Spaceship
Sale Type: Inbound
Source: ED
HT: 2 years and 1+ months (2 renewals)

Glory to God! This is my highest sale so far - double my previous highs - and my first sale at Spaceship.

The Story smiley

I had this listed for 888 in the first year and then increased to 2199 at renewal. I initially planned to increase it to $2888 by second renewal - but I later increased that to 5888. Decided to hike the price along with many others in my portfolio, considering the kinds of sale prices that I had been seeing for certain domains. After all, all die na die. cheesy

A 1500 offer came in 22 December - exactly a month after the domain would have expired if I hadn't renewed. I had set the minimum offer to $999 or so. I didn't see the Spaceship email until Christmas Day because I stopped all outbound the previous week and the responses (or lack of them) were discouraging anyway. So, I apologised for the late reply and countered with 4.5k. They went quiet.

The buyer came back with a 3k offer on New Year's Day. I decided on another half-hearted counter of 3888. smiley Woke up to emails of the buyer's acceptance and payment yesterday morning. Money was already paid out in just few hours from the time I first saw those emails.

An interesting fact: This domain used Afternic lander and nameservers all the time. I currently use Spaceship landers for domains rejected at Afternic and the only two domains I have registered there.

I started listing at Spaceship in September having read about the potential of its parent company's registration path, even without using their nameservers. I can testify to that now. I had received two low-hundred offers for two other domains not using their landers before this. Also, I just observed yesterday that they also count search views for domains that are not parked with them. Amazing.

I give thanks to God. More sales for us all.

SOLD

Name: Boston//Airport//Car//Service [COM]
SP: $650
Venue: Afternic
Sale Type: Inbound
Source: ED
HT: About 37 and half months (3 renewals)

This is the first sale from the many domains that I have transferred to UD due to discounts. Sold 28th of last month. I might have actually dropped this one at expiration because of the length but I decided to transfer at 50% discount. I held this mainly because of those .net folks. cheesy

The length was also what kept me from hiking the price much higher - originally priced $450. I last reached out to end users back in April 2023, indicating I was open to offers. No response.

All glory to God! Happy new year, people.

SOLD

Name: Spine//Specialists [ORG]
SP: $1000
Venue: Afternic
Sale Type: Inbound
Source: ED
HT: One and a half years

I registered this domain along with four other .org domains last year to test an idea - I experiment with ideas (and other extensions) occasionally. I dropped two at renewal time and renewed three, including this one.

The domain was priced for $688 in the first year and I even reached out to some potential end-users but never got any reply (I think).

For me personally, .org has better sales potential than .net. This is now my second sale in this extension over the years, even though I don't think I have registered more than 15 or 20 over that time. I renewed only about five of those and did so this year because I only went back to the extension last year for another experiment. cheesy

All praise and thanks to God!

Congrats to all recent sellers. More and bigger sales for everyone of us.

Also, whatever price you list your domain, afternic will still add additional price (not renewal) during checkout. Someone once raised it here and it was dismissed.

Perhaps, it is only happening to me and him.
I think I once reported same here several months ago for a sale concluded using a Custom Link (lead import). Afternic wouldn't explain why. Had to make the buyer understand that GoDaddy was to blame. cheesy

But the experience made me feel somehow. How do I agree a price with someone and Afternic goes ahead to display a higher "one-time" payment, excluding the renewal fee? That could make me look like a liar!

Oh, well, GoDaddy is still a necessary evil some of us will just have to live with - at least, for now. undecided

Sales reports

Name: McGuire//Services [COM]
Price: $500 (LTO)
Source: ED
Type: Outbound/Inbound
Sale Venue: Afternic
HT: Roughly 12 months

Name: pama//ai [COM]
Price: $500 (offer)
Source: Generated
Type: Inbound
Sale venue: Afternic
HT: Two months

For the first name, I don't know whether to say I was lucky or the buyer was. It sold on two-month LTO just four days before the day I planned to renew and hike the price to $1500! The buyer paid the second installment just two days after the first. I am not sure if I got a single response when I did outbound back in February.

I was notified of a $499 offer for the second name the last day of October, when I was still waiting for a sale. I later noticed that the buyer had made a $300 offer two days earlier but I was not informed - probably because I had set the minimum offer to $499 but did not enable "Make Offer" on the lander. He came back with $500 cheesy on the third day of this month, supposedly saying they can't do more. I just told broker to accept if dem ready to pay within 24 hours max. Make I at least recoup all my spending on AI name registrations. smiley

Thank God! Congrats to all recent sellers. More sales for us all in Jesus name.

Seems one cannot escape all those annoying offer-makers at Afternic. huh

With almost all my names pointed to Afternic, I decided to turn off offers for the majority this year to check something. But, somehow, some still go ahead to make low-ball offers through brokers and then disappear. Na wa o. sad

Congrats to all recent sellers. James39, that's still awesome returns on investment; better to come. smiley

It's finally confirmed that Unstoppable Domains is joining Afternic Fast Transfer program!

I was surprised when I was unexpectedly prompted to approve a few listings for Fast Transfer last week. I knew something was in the offing. smiley Nice one.

UD is just like Spaceship SellerHub in their moves. They are proactive. I have always suspected they're the most serious of all those offering $5 .com registrations.

People wey dey do GD Auctions una dey try o. cheesy I say make I try am, but every auctions seem to be ending at high prices.

There have been a few that I thought I would win but someone else took interest towards the end - sometimes, in the final seconds. Others ended up in hundreds despite being the only bidder with less than 5-10 minutes to go.

The interesting thing is that names similar to some of these ones can be registered for free on the drop once in a while. It's just that the domain age will be lost. Chai!

Last last sha, from my 120 Inbound name, I made 1K sale with another 10K so far. My first 5 figures sale(241 sales so far 5year period). I have about 80 outbound names. One sold just now..I don't see the hype people give Spaceship lander(still buggy) & can't convert like than. Seems Europeans have hacked this domain lander thing..look at Fruits.....co but dey don't yet support Nigeria..

Be dropping more updates has things normalize. Thanks all.

No give up yet oo, sales fit dey for corner. God help us, amen!
Congrats on your sales, bro! Wow, things dey happen for here o. smiley

Abeg, could you tell me the factors you consider before pricing a domain for 5 figures?

I want to believe I have at least one domain that I can slap such a price on (after all, all die na die). cheesy But I can't just figure it out yet.

Anyone who has made a 5-figure sale (Gpexchange, protocol, iCauseTrouble etc) can also chip in, please.

1st premium approval @ $38k? Is that real?

I thought the starting point for premium names on Atom is $2199 to $3499 pricing range
My thoughts exactly. I was trying to understand how that was possible.

Atom agents had made me to understand in the past that the maximum price for sellers with less than 50 approved Premium listings was $3499. I wonder what changed. 🤨

@bizbro

Those two times were UTC; that should explain it, I guess.

Does anyone here know if DreamHost also do drop-catching?

I saw a domain dropped at 18:49 (UTC), according to ED. I tried registering it about 16 minutes later and it showed as taken. When I checked WHOIS, it showed as registered at DreamHost by 18:48 plus some seconds. I was like: how was that possible? 🤔

Domain Investing requires Patience ooo
You aren't getting responses yet doesn't mean you're doing Shit.

Hardwork+Patience+Grace

Happy Independence Domainers!!!
Congrats on your sale. I tap into it. Must have been a very happy Sunday. smiley

I will add critical thinking, research, and business thinking to the boldface. One needs to be inquisitive of sales reports and be ready to plough back proceeds into registrations and renewals.

It's not just lack of patience but of money that makes it hard for people to wait for a potential sale. I only consider a fraction of my sales proceeds as income because of this; the rest is for renewals and new acquisitions.

And ah, yes, it may help to not be too fearful to slap high prices on domains that you are fully convinced are worth it; gpexchange is one of those to look up to for possible inspiration. I never reach that level sha. grin

Dreamhost/Enom is also approved for SedoMLS

Dreamhost in itself is hosting-centric. They only register domains through their partnership with Enom, which is a SedoMLS registrar

That's why domain registrations takes several minutes or hours sef on Dreamhost. They will first notify you that your registration request has been received. Then later later b4 your name is finally registered

So, for domains you registered at Dreamhost, you simply choose Enom when you want it for SedoMLS
Oh, I never knew that. I have no intention of using DreamHost for registering domains, though.

But your post highlights another reason I prefer UD for low prices: it's provides a smoother experience when registering. I don't have to jump through as many hoops as I often have to do at, say, ZCOM.

For example, I tried registering a few domains at Z weeks ago and they told me two of the domains were premiums and would need to pay $7995 each. These were .com domains (ending with "ai" ) that I had researched and were available, not drops. I refreshed the page and did all I could to get the real prices but no success. I had to go pay a higher standard registration fee elsewhere.

Abeg do you know of any cheap registra one can buy name under 10k?
Unstoppable Domains is what I think you need. They have $5 .com offers on Fridays. People who have a large portfolio there seem to enjoy this offer everyday.

If I may add, I prefer UD for these low offers because it's more domain-centric. Plus, they are supported for SedoMLS promotion - Afternic Fast Transfer program may be supported in the future, too.

I was wondering: would anyone here sell a domain name to someone for a third of its listing price simply because they are Nigerian or of Nigerian origin?

Mind you, the original plan was to even double this listing price at renewal (if not sold) and this name is not even Nigeria-oriented.

Was Grey recently h@ckd?

Sudden zero balances on cards

Reappearance of card funds after days.

Prolonged withdrawal times to NGN accts

Sudden cancellation of cards and issuance of new card..

Etc.

Who has any insight on what's happening.
It's because of things like this that I don't receive money directly into my account with them. Instead, I continued to receive payouts with Payoneer - even though that costs me way more money but I love the relative stability.

Congrats to all recent sellers. Dtruth073, that's a big one right there! I love that sort of experience, too. smiley

GeneralOuki:
According to the tax law, those who earn very little would be exempted from paying tax. So if you're unemployed you will likely not be paying tax.
That's what they told you. Learn to not believe everything this people say and read the details instead.

For instance, they claimed people who earn minimum wage (70k) will no longer pay income tax. But only an income of 800k or less per year is exempt from tax; 70*12 is 840k!

I found this calculator months ago when the new tax laws were trending again: https://fiscalreforms.ng/index.php/pit-calculator/. It simulates roughly what you should expect to pay based on your annual income.

An unemployed that receive anything above 2million in a year will have to pay tax on such money
Where did you read this? And did you mean money received into a bank account would be taxed? What if such is foreign remittance for upkeep or personal projects in Nigeria?

The maximum annual income that's tax exempt under the new tax law is not more than N1 million. It's actually 800k per annum, but there are unconfirmed reports of a probable 200k tax exemption.

This is not fresh news, actually. It's been around for months.

You were charged FX charges

It happens Anytime you register a domain with a registrar outside USA such as Z.com, Gname, etc.

For Z.com, it's $0.6. Others have theirs too.

Grey is not stealing your money

If you want to escape that, use registrars in the USA like Dreamhost or Unstoppable domains for $4.99 and $5 respectively. UD $5 is Fridays only. Dreamhost $4.99 is everyday
This pretty much explains it!

I had similar deductions when I used my Grey card to get a few small items from AliExpress last year. I was made to understand it's some cross-border fee.

Anyone that wants to avoid it should simply use PayPal. I believe it should be possible to link a Grey card to a PayPal account.

From your screenshot, it's not Grey. It seems you didn't deactivate some zcom services that hit your virtual card for payment.

For every domain you register or renew, make sure auto renewal is turned off. Look out for extras that may warrant monthly or yearly payment and cancell them as well.

Because any time money is in your account and the monthly payment hits your card, all the outstanding will be settled if your balance is sufficient to take care of it.
This. That's why I use PayPal on most of these websites instead of adding my card details directly - Dynadot is my only current exception among registrars.

This same ZCOM adds automatic payment setting to your PayPal account after orders you make there. I always make sure to remove that automatic payment afterwards to avoid unexpected deductions like that.
