Good morning.

Has anyone here managed to sell a domain name that has higher-than-usual monthly views? I know some of these views may just be from bots.

The typical highest monthly views on my most-viewed domains (on Dan) are in the range 20-60. It's, therefore, unusual (for me) when you see a domain name doing 100-300 views in a month. I have two of such currently.

The first domain name that I experienced something similar with didn't sell in three years! At a time, I pointed it to a platform that showed ads on landing pages; I didn't earn a dime! That domain was a Geo, but the current two are not.

Please can someone advise me on what best to do with these domains?

Well, a floated currency not propped by loans is meant to fluctuate depending on how demand and supply affect it.

The aim now should be increasing the demand for the Naira whilst diminishing the need for foreign currencies.

This can only happen if importation is largely reduced in favor of exports.

Local production and consumption remain the way forward.

You meant the Naira that's already everywhere chasing fewer products. Or how else would you describe getting significantly lesser value for the same amount of money?

If local production is ongoing and ramped up (at affordable costs), demand for imports could reduce - especially that for food.

But, when the government doesn't encourage that local production with necessary amenities and adequate security, what are we talking about?

Regarding the bold section, if you cannot even mention a single economy as an example of those "functional economies" that would take such an action that you proposed, then there's no point in bringing that up to start with.

I can boldly tell you that no democratic or elected government would tax investment (stock, index fund etc). They would only tax the gain or returns from it, not the capital.

If you have ever gotten savings interests, put money in fixed deposit, or invested in stock/mutual funds, you'd know that tax is paid on just the profit. That's standard practice! The percentage of tax may only differ from one place to another.

You seem to already have your mind made up. So there's no need for any back and forth. Just believe what you choose to believe. With time, you may know better.

On the bold section, could you give examples of functional economies that have made such a move? I doubt you'd even be able to name one because they won't let their money lose value as much as the Naira has. So there's no need for such an action to start with.

So you still think that kidnappings, illegal mining, oil bunkering etc being sponsored by influential people in the country is mere rumour? Even without being told, shouldn't you have been able to figure that out? I don't believe that hypothesis because people merely suggested it; it's simply hard to think otherwise!

Debt, incurred by defending the naira in times past, paying for subsides, corruption, and by the chronically low oil prices since 2014, is why we no longer have the money.

Either the government starts taxing everyone, or we pray for a miracle...or we do something close to what is being done now.

As much as I agree with much of what you've written on this thread, I have slight reservations about the bold part.

To pay tax is the duty of every citizen, I agree. But how do you get encouraged to do that when corrupt people in positions of authority seem to be in a competition of who can loot the most? Yet, they go practically scot-free!

By the way, there's hardly anybody that doesn't pay tax in this country. Income tax isn't the only type of tax. How judicious has the government been with what it collected in the past?

I reach out to end users the usual way. Nothing fancy.

However, I try to target decision-makers such as owners, presidents, or maybe even marketing/business development. I just use the regular "info" or "contact" email address types if I can't find the preferred ones.

I decided to not wait to do a quarterly report for these ones. This is about the highest number of sales I had quarterly last year.

The Lake Oconee name sold after previous outbound efforts seemed to have failed. It came through on 1 January, the following day after my last sale in the previous quarter. I once discounted the price to $300 (in 2022) and even did fresh outbound much later (2023), but no show before this sale.

The Denver sale was one of my easier ones. It sold after following up on the first email. Buyer offered the sale price in reply; I countered with 399, but they maintained 250. The only person who showed interest after the first email didn't respond to follow-up emails - she later did after the sale. Lesson: follow up always (at least one time in the worst case scenario).

I wasn't aware of the pet doctor sale until almost 24 hours later when DAN sent me a reminder with a 24-hour "ultimatum." Gmail somehow didn't notify me and I didn't check my inbox, partly because it was a Sunday. I shock say na this kain sale I for miss.

If you are not shy and are humble, I believe there are things you can do around that could at least put food on your table for the meantime. With food out of the question, the burden is less.

But that GD appraisal doesn't count for much. I have had domains appraised higher not sold for even 100 bucks. This is a miraculous sale IMHO.

But that's the problem and what the "story" I wrote in the second paragraph was about: I am not allowed to message people whose numbers I do not have saved on my contact list. Those people have to message me first.

It seemed I was ban and I have contacted Telegram support repeatedly on it but no response. I decided not to bother again since I rarely send messages anyway.

And the story...

I did outbound marketing again for the Florida name about five months after I made the last attempt. I had hiked the DAN price to 495 after no show the previous time. But I forgot that I listed it separately on Afternic at the old price - I had been listing only on DAN and syncing with Afternic for some months. Still happy with the sale!

I think the STL name was my first Geo that got sold before doing any outreach and within the first 60 days. That name was actually a punt of sort because I had no luck with previous St. Louis names (like 3 or 4), although this was the first in abbreviated form.

The two names above sold around the first week of October. The third sale didn't come until when I was preparing to leave for a New Year's Eve church programme. 🙂

The third name had been listed on SH for almost two years. I had listed hundreds of names there without a sale since joining in 2020, with many now expired. However, I had only one Premium listing there until around November/December when more were accepted bringing the total to 37. This sale came weeks after I decided to switch the nameservers of the remaining Standard listings to DAN and reduce prices.

Nice one right there, Seun! But I bet those who wouldn't be impressed won't. I'm just seeing this thread today by the way.

I knew the forum has grown too big for the existing moderators to moderate. I stated this in an almost heated argument I had in a WhatsApp group about a couple of weeks ago when some people were accusing you along the line you stated.

In my mind, I think mostly younger people and shallow-thinking older folks would accuse you as being complicit in the tribalism. The evidence is right there for anyone who cares to see them.

However, I would ask you to consider looking into the working of the moderating bot. It has banned me several times for posts that weren't against any rules. The post for which a ban was issued would be indicated but no reason provided.
