sacramento1212: Trust me Elizade Nigeria used vehicles are certified. Nothing like deceit. You can go there and see for yourself. I guess their combining brand new and used was to make them also competitive because many companies are buying used as against brand new vehicles except for those that are highly financially bouyant enough to spend much on liabilities. That's cool. Thanks for the info. |

Business › Re: Cosmas Maduka Coscharis Regrets Investing N1.7billion On Vehicle Assembly Plant by ubcandid(m): 9:27pm On Aug 27, 2019 |
sacramento1212: No one is discouraging them from thriving and infact because of the manufacturing/assembling of cars locally, importation of cars became more expensive not even for brand new but also fairly used ones even though not factoring exchange rate to procure these vehicles.
Currently in Nigeria when compared to in the past, how many companies are buying brand new cars? In the past, a brand new Toyota Corolla used to sell for less than #4,000,000 but today it's almost times 3 of that figure.
In the past companies like Briscoe and Elizade i guess only stock brand new cars but today, they also sell fairly used even though certified to enable them remain in business. Where these car assembling or manufacturing companies willing to establish various plants in Nigeria get it wrong is that it seems they want the government to shut down importation of cars in Nigeria to enable them thrive, that's where they will get it wrong.
Government has even assisted them by even a massive increase in import duties/clearing cost to discourage import and for now that's a fair deal for anyone willing to invest in this sector. You mean Bristol and Elizabeth sell Tokubo cars? |

nextstep: I was pointing out that consumer and industrial goods of the same quality (not knockoff or imitation) cost the same amount of dollars: smartphones, cars, TVs, air conditioners, paint, tiles, generators, laptops, etc. Yes, there are cheaper (Chinese) versions that Nigerians have access to, but if an American bought those cheaper versions too, they'd pay the same price.
For instance, if a tokunbo Camry in Nigeria cost 1/8 the cost in US, then I would say the goods are cheaper in Nigeria, but that's not the case. Similarly for buying a machine for your business (of comparable quality): it's not 1/8 the cost if you buy it in Nigeria, yet it takes 8x the labour to get it.
In fact, after adding cost of import/clearing, the goods cost more dollar for dollar in Nigeria. I actually contrived to understand you after deep simulation and relation. Not many people would understand you due to your complex narration in explanation. But I get what you're saying on the other hand, know that purchasing power of a currency and strength of middle class are other factors to consider in your analytical approach. |
Travel › Re: American Visa Application Fee Increased For Nigerians by ubcandid(m): 7:22pm On Aug 27, 2019*. Modified: 11:01am On Aug 28, 2019 |
nextstep: Reciprocity is what they say, but we know that when an American works to earn $100, it takes a Nigerian almost 8 times the labor to produce that amount... so the "pain" of $100 in US is like $800 in Nigeria. It's not really reciprocal. Not to mention the cost of living for their staff deployed in Nigeria is way cheaper than Nigerian staff deployed to US.
Anyways, those who want to go will still find 2-4 million Naira to go, even though it can start a very good business here.
I've been using this 8x factor since the GDP per person is US is about 8x Nigeria, and in comparing average middle-class wages, yet the cost of most goods of comparable quality (e.g cars, phones, even cement) does not change much between countries. I don't get the concluding, the 2nd part of the concluding section of your statement. How does the cost of goods not differ much? |

When I saw this post, my heart skipped thinking it's someone I communicated with recently. I have a secondary school hommie who was a cool headed guy sending me message on Facebook requesting I forward my num, after trying to reach him to no avail I forwarded my num to him which he later placed a call across and to my shock, he informed me he is in Kiri Kiri prison. He said his account was used to run a deal and the guys who used his account had bailed themselves out but since he is the primary case of reception, the duped fellow refused for him to be released. the guy asked me to send him recharge card so he could sell and get money to eat. I wanted to do that but when I evaluated the story he told me and tried to link the veracity, to an extent, it defied logic. I called some of our former classmates who stayed close to him then and I got not so palatable reports about him. given the fact he schooled at FUTO, my mind pushed me that he may have been involved in kidnapping or armed robbery and I discarded any motive to send money to him. My thought was - an issue may arise where the phone he is using is confiscated and phone calls tracked, given the gravity of the offense which he committed (which I am not too sure on), the police may have not concluded investigation and I can hamper my integrity and safety by my communication with him; we all know the police modus operandi, they would pick me up and beat the hell out of me to force a confession. Since most of our past friends had nothing good to say about him, I sent him a message back on Facebook telling him to stop calling my number and gave my reasons as spelt out here. I told him to send his mums num so I can send something through her but I might not do that again due to the reports I heard. Living smart is you knowing your environment and living along its lines to protect yourself, imagine the people that wadume the kidnapper has brought into police detention by his calls when they didn't know he was on the run after being freed by the army. Use your number 6 squared in Nigeria. One little mistake can take 6 years out of your life for nothing. |

ESSOHEngineers: It is so bad in Port Harcourt that staff will hear of an inspection to be done by DPR for a company. This staff is not nominated. But just because he/she has heard about it, the staff will then go to the company and pretend like the real nominee for the inspection, take bribe, carry out a fake inspection and run away. Few days after the real nominees will then appear to the surprise of the company. It is appalling and shameful in Port Harcourt Zonal Office of DPR. Are you upset about the fact that the company would now have to "bribe" two times? The company wouldn't have to bribe if they did what was right. |

Fingerlins: You’re right! He doesn’t know what he’s saying. Usa has the highest rate of scam in the whole world. Lately I was told about one scam that’s happening in the USA. If you go to a gas station to buy gas then insert your card to pay, there’s this device that can read your credit card details, every details needed to steal funds from your account. The device has been coupled with the pump card reader. Lord knows how they doing that! Usa leads others follows.. Even at hotel lobbies and clubs. Apart from that, the organizational level of the American society makes it easier to commit crime and stay anonymous. Forget the movies we watch, most of the successful criminals in the world cannot do without America. |

Yobeezy: Okay but the population of Indians in Kenya isn't such that overwhelming as one might think. There are roughly 100k Indians living in Kenya and most of them are Indians of Kenyan generation or the 3rd generation, we call them Kenyans because some of them were born and raised in Kenya all their lifetime. The population of Kenya is around 49 million, this clearly means out of 490,000 one is either a full Indian or Indian of Kenyan generation.
The place you visited in Kenya is called Visa Oshwal centre. Ok, let me say there are lots of Indians in Nairobi and foreigners too. The fun centers we visited were filled up with them and they own lots of eateries, bars and relaxation centers. I tried in getting the name of the place. We made use of the hall for the event and the field for our party. Visited another big center at the outskirts of town which I can't recall now. It was a feast there. |

Yobeezy: We're now in 2019 and the Airport has been undergoing massive transformation in security and efficiency services to fulfill passengers will to the fullest, portion of infrastructure too. JKIA was ranked 3rd best airport in Africa after Cairo and Cape Town international airports respectively according to 2019 World Travel Awards. Back in 2018, the airport was too ranked the best airport in Africa according to Airhelp survey. JKIA is the transit hub of east and central Africa handling more than 10 million passengers annually. I've never heard of MMIA in any merit ranking despite your claims it beats JKIA.
Meanwhile security checkpoint at JKIA, the airport is still 3km ahead. That's my view though when I visited. I arrived by past 1 midnight, so wasn't in for much fancy look out at the airport and, nothing really caught me up about the airport but when we were driving to the hotel, wow, it was a beautiful scenery.
