ETHIOPE FEDERAL: PROPELLING HON. BEN IGBAKPA TO VICTORY WITHOUT PREJUDICE.

BY LARRY OBOH:

In my laborious and continuous search for facts about life, I have discovered that goals actualized by great people are being lauded by those who have equally done remarkable things and those that have not; I also discovered that the value of a gift is neither the price nor durability, but it's ability to evoke thoughts that comes with a long-lasting smile.

Whenever I reflect at goals that have been actualized by great people around me, my thoughts always reveal that the greatness of any individual should not only be measured by those who live after them (when they are dead), but also by those who live with them (when they are alive). The greatest of people have always affected their immediate and distant environments, directly and indirectly, with equal proportion. Because there are few whose extraordinary deeds and acts of goodness continue to positively affect humanity, true and honourable service to humanity is this deficient.

The world indeed suffers from the relatively lack of selflessness and heroism. But for the few people who still hold the collective progress of humanity in high priority, their inspirations must be accorded its due commendation. Because charity must begin at home, I'm always inclined to look within my immediate sociopolitical grouping in constant considerations of those whose spirits of oneness and inspiring great characters of worthy honorarium.

I hail from Ethiope Federal Constituency. That is where my perspective search for great people must begin. I have cast my mind far and across Ethiope Federal Constituency in search of people who duly deserve the entitled claims of honour and adoration. I have looked out for people who have modeled themselves with the reputation for being visionary; possessing the resourcefulness for alleviating the sufferings of the people by providing the opportunities where their challenges are transformed to better life openings; one who dares to champion courses many considered impossible; one who has worked his way up the ladder of achievements meritoriously; one who lives through the people like their lifeblood by the virtue of his/her openness and compassion; one who has integrity and enjoys the respect of other well-meaning individuals; one who is known to work with people through their inclusive participation; and one who never fails to accept his shortcomings and credits the people for his strength. Every time I look in my head for someone who succinctly reflects all I have described above, I look no further than Hon. Ben Rolland Igbakpa.

THE DINT OF PARTISAN IMMUNITY AND ITS ATTENDANT BENEFITS FOR IGBAKPA'S ASPIRATION

Our people suffer the streaks of games played by occupants of the uppermost echelon of the Nigerian governmental pyramid; not because they prefer to suffer, but because suffering is the only offshoot wickedness in high places rain on them.

The media, which is classically considered as the fourth estate of the realm and fourth organ of government, has over the years had her share of perilous caging and censorship; as journalists and new media practitioners are forcefully quieted and bought to lend favour for those without commendable political balance sheet. But can partisan immunity and its attendant benefits be silenced and bought? No!

Partisan immunity is a political stance enjoyed by a favourer, protagonist of patriotism who has distinguished himself from absolute partisanship. The body language, political culture and social attitude of Hon. Ben Rolland Igbakpa demonstrates the position that before we became carriers of political party identity cards, we were first Ethiope Federal Constituents. There's no reason to wonder why he's the most popular aspirant in the race.

Without doubts, popular aspirant is a win win compromise. The electoral success of Ben Igbakpa will not hurt or injure anyone who is supportive of excellence and the betterment of Ethiope Federal Constituency. Ethiope Federal wins when Ben Igbakpa win. Every word Igbakpa says are backed by actions. The pre-election empowerment strides from Igbakpa's camp are louder actions than words.

There's no law against excellence. The journey to make Ethiope Federal Constituency great commences when more good men are allowed and supported to make lives better. Support the Ethiope Federal Victory Project. Support the man with partisan immunity. Let the man with an excellent political score card show his face. Support Hon. Ben Rolland Igbakpa.

Fund Church Activities through Investments, Okowa Urges Churches

DELTA State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has urged Churches to have investments that will reduce financial burdens on their members and boost evangelism.

The Governor made the call on Sunday (13/05/18) during the 3rd Session of the 14th Synod of Asaba Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion held at St. Philips Anglican Church, Asaba.

“I am glad that some churches are looking at alternative ways of generating funds for the church; these investments would fund church activities, thereby, removing financial pressure on the members, encourage evangelism and create employment opportunities,” the Governor who was accompanied to the Church by his wife, Dame Edith, the Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko, among others, said.

He urged Christians to back their prayers with actions, saying, “it is time for Christians to pray and equip themselves for the future; most times, Christians do not arm themselves for future challenges; it is good to pray but, we should ensure that we collect our permanent voters cards and also, come out and vote on election days, we have a right to determine our future through the ballot box.”

Speaking on the theme for the synod which is, “The Lord Of Hosts, Mighty In Battle,” the Governor urged Christians to live a life of faith, trust, loyalty and accountability using every challenge as an opportunity to exercise their faith like the Biblical David.

He observed that David was ready to sacrifice his life for a sheep in his flock, adding, "if every Christian should live the way David lived and trusted in God, I believe, we will go a long way as Christians; at this very trying times, if God be for us, who can be against us?”

“There is nothing the Lord cannot do if only we can trust him and work in his ways,” he emphasised.

Bishop of Asaba Diocese of the Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd. Justus Mogekwu had in an address commended Governor Okowa’s administration for providing the enabling environment for investments to thrive while Bishop Nathaniel Inyom of Diocese of Makurdi in a sermon at the occasion, urged Christians to be vigilant, focused and utilise their numerical strength in voting for candidates that have the interest of Christians at heart.

He decried the high level of internally displaced persons occasioned by attacks by Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria and charged Christians to be politically motivated.

*Expresses Worry over JOHESU Strike and Twins Wellbeing

Erstwhile Secretary to Delta State Government (SSG), Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay has commended the Delta State government for taking up the upkeep and surgery of the co-joined twins, currently admitted in Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara.

Macaulay who earlier led a public support campaign for the Siamese twins, applauded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his efforts with an appeal to the public not to rest on their oars until the children are declared fit.

The commendation is following the state government’s declaration during the week, to take care of the kids bill accruing from their surgery and upkeep.

The veteran Labour leader, however, expressed concern over the well being of the Siamese twins in view of the strike action currently embarked on by members of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) in Delta State.

Macaulay stressed the need for public input to complement government effort, particularly, against the fact that the twins parents are financially handicapped.

Meanwhile, one of our sources at the DELSUTH confirmed that the strike action may affect the well being of the children.

According to her, as at press time, the co-joined twins were the only patients in the hospital as others have been discharged due to the JOHESU strike.

She disclosed that though some doctors were on regular shift to cater for the twins, laboratory and sundry medical jobs are done outside the hospital, as the hospital workers are neither here nor there as a result of the strike.

“Things are getting better in the oil communities but, we believe that more can be done and this bill will actually remove every doubt and every fear will be taken care of when it is signed into law, I believe that it will give a lot of room for development in the host communities and that will reduce agitations and allow for a peaceful environment for the operation of the oil companies and when you have the kind of environment that is needed for oil companies to operate in, then, we know that we have greater resources for us as a people and as a nation,” Governor Okowa said.

Senator Alasaodura had said they were in the state for the people to have input in the PIB, noting that Delta State is one of the greatest stakeholders in Nigeria’s oil industry and getting the views of the people was very important to ensure that the bill meets their aspirations.

He disclosed that efforts are on to ensure that the bill is passed and signed into law before the campaign for the 2019 election commences.

At a stakeholders meeting between the committee, traditional rulers, president-generals of ethnic nationalities, and other relevant stakeholders, inputs were made of what the people expects from the PIB.

Governor Okowa at the stakeholders’ meeting took different sessions of the bill, stating that communities should in conjunction with the oil companies, appoint members of board of trustees for the Oil Producing Communities Development Board of Trustees; inclusion of enterprising development should be included into the capital project funding of the trustees; that professional managers for the projects must come from the host and impacted communities as the communities have pool of professionals in all fields, among other suggestions.

Senator Alasaodura assured the people that decisions have not been taken concerning the bill and the views of the people would be considered, adding that there will also, be public hearing on the bill before it is passed and signed into law.

How many peace treaties have they struck that they expect us to rate them higher than a mediator of lasting peace? How many dying hopes have they resuscitated that they want us to reengage their trust? How many positive testaments have their political deeds earned them that they want us to loan them another four years of our treasured mandate? How many class schismatic agendas have they nipped in the bud that they expect us to pitch tents with them? Only dictators profit from the subjugation of their people, but they are merely relics of an era that would pass soon. There is no joy in a system where so many delight while others must suffer — if it was possible for all to live in comfort.

There exist an avalanche of reasons to hold Distinguished Hon Ben Rolland Igbakpa's House of Representatives aspiration to heart. The syndicates and warmers of class political profiteering didn't embrace the unification of Ethiope Federal Constituency with double hands; even with inks representing gentlemanly understandings for sakes of posterity and avoidance of overheated lobbying. But the people, in their desire for peace, noticed a formidable melting pot in Igbakpa's obedience to service call. To Ben Rolland Igbakpa, there is no East nor West. What there is is Ethiope Federal Constituency as all dichotomies are bridged and crossable. For in equality and equity we were merged.

Even in surplusage of humanitarian appetite, lots of well meaning Ethiope Federal Constituents were at the verge of losing verve and solidarity for total overhaul and transformation of Ethiope Federal. Matters of state were hastily becoming less seductive and more irritating for the chaste to partake in. But Igbakpa, a white butterfly, observed how deeply below survival level our foundations had quacked. The man-made and self inflicted sociopolitical quick sand of Ethiope Federal Constituency must be made solid again. Ben Igbakpa shows up as the last man standing with the advantage of an enriched political desk when the final flickers of hope is threatened by a stormy wind. Igbakpa creates, others emulate.

Sorry, we're not promoters of formulas that didn't profit greater majority of constituents. We're not also supporters of others against our neighbours; as the earth is one and the fullness thereof. We're all neighbours. No one is too far from us to lack the neighbourly prerequisite if his agenda is in romance with ours. In matters of political trend, we swim with the current. In matters of political principles we stand like a rock. Ben Igbakpa has resuscitated more dying hopes. We can go to bed with our eyes closed. He knows the pains inherent in lack and the solace incumbent in affluence. Let's send a man formed in grassroots roughs, not one nursed in safe haven and harbours. Ben Igbakpa is our surest bet. Ben Igbakpa creates, others emulate.

The testaments of his goodness proves us right. He has taught many the art of fishery and bakery instead of the usual rapacious way of throwing crumbs and making the people feast on leftovers. His practical mastery in matters of human capital development and direct, classless connect with constituents is indelible. If we must get it right, we must send Igbakpa and others like him after his time.

Ben Igbakpa creates, others emulate. Ben Igbakpa knows that government is a vanishing, disappearing act when the footprints of those at the upper level of the triangle is unnoticeable. Show your political score card or hide your face.

Echoes Of Okowa's Achievements As Oborevwori Empowers Constituents
By FIDELIS EGUGBO

"When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan." Proverb 29: 2. This passage aptly captured the wind of change blowing in Delta State. When Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa campaigned for the governorship seat of Delta State promising prosperity for all Deltans, many people thought it was one of those political statements. On emergence as Governor, he confused the people the more by disclosing that the civil service was over bloated with more than 70, 000 workforce gulping about N7 billion monthly as salaries. It was no longer discussions in hushed tones but, clear, and loud question about how the Ika-born politician will make Deltans prosperous without employing them into the civil service.
Three years down the line, he has proven that Deltans can be prosperous without working as civil servants. Two days ago, for instance, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori carried out an empowerment programme for his constituents when he gave out 4 Cars, 20 Buses, 20 Deep freezers, 10 Tricycles (KEKE), 20 Hair Dressing Saloon Components including Generator sets, 40 Grinding Machines, 500 Wrappers and Head Ties, 30 Sewing Machines, Scholarship Scheme for Secondary and University Students, Financial Assistance to Traders, among others.
Though, he did not mention what it cost him to embark on such life-changing programme, the Speaker paid accolades to Governor Okowa for providing an environment for Deltans to thank God for the positive activities going on in different parts of the state.
It is a fact that instead of declaring vacancies, the Governor rekindled the 'I can do it' spirit among Deltans by imitating different wealth creating programmes through the Job Creation Office which is the first and possibly, one of its kind in the country.
Through the wealth creation programmes, graduates, none graduates, the old and the young acquired different skills and were given all the necessary assistance including mentoring to enable them become not just self-employed, but, employers of labour. As such, from Asaba to Agbor, Kwale, Ughelli, Warri, Burutu, Patani and in different parts of the state, success stories abounds from those who have benefited from the wealth creation programmes.
Rt. Hon. Oborevwori did not mince words during the empowerment programme, when he said, "to the teeming youths of my constituency, I want to use this opportunity to urge you to take advantage of some of the key programmes of the present administration that are geared towards sustainable wealth creation and development of the economy of our dear State.
These programmes include Youth Agricultural Entrepreneur Programme( YAGEP), Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme( STEP) and Production and Processing Support Programme (PPSP). These are the major components of the SMART AGENDA of this administration, which have positively impacted thousands of Deltans.
My constituents have benefited immensely and I urge others to key into this laudable programmes. Two Hundred and Twenty Seven (227) of Okpe sons and daughters have benefited with starter packs presented to them upon completion of the programmes."
Coming from the Speaker, it was a clear testimony about the success story of the wealth creation efforts of Governor Okowa's administration as most of those beneficiaries from their testimonies will become millionaires of tomorrow. But, if one can describe the wealth creation programmes as the bedrock of the prosperity for all programmes of Governor Okowa's administration, a look at massive construction of roads going on around the state that has earned Governor Okowa the nick name, Road Master will make one to take a look at the meaning of prosperity again.
With the roads, vehicles are getting to places that have not witnessed such. All of a sudden, the Capital Territory is wearing a new look with road construction not only limited to Asaba but, Okpanam, Ugbolu, Okwe and Oko. Constructing road in Oko, a coastal community which ordinarily if well handled with financiers from different parts of the world will create a new coastal city all the way to Aboh in Ndokwa East local government area and possibly, give birth to a coastal road that may terminate at Patani will certainly bring a paradigm shift in the development of Delta State. Such road may serve as shore protection too for the communities along the bank of the River Niger.
Constructing road at Oko is really ambitious, but, it is all about prosperity as the people who ordinarily, are part of the capital territory, will have easy means of moving their farm produce to Asaba. Even the Federal Government avoided Oko because of the huge cost that is involved in constructing the road. The terrain so difficult but, Governor Okowa, believing that the people deserve recognition, dared to start the construction of the road.
Road construction was taken seriously by Governor Okowa's administration that communities that are inside the creeks are seeing earth-moving equipment for the first time. During that empowerment programme, the Governor said, "good roads are very important to the development of any community. "
Rt. Hon. Oborevwori had said in his address that, "in the face of the glaring reduction of the state revenue, both from federal allocation and internally generated, he (Governor Okowa) was able to manage the state funds to ensure even spread of people-oriented projects across the 25 local government areas of the state.
For us in Okpe constituency, it has been harvest of projects. The following are projects executed and commissioned by His Excellency in Okpe local government area during this short period of my membership in the state legislature: Construction of Onomigbo Street, Orerokpe (Completed and commissioned), Construction of Ejinyere/Orodje Street, Orerokpe (Completed and commissioned), Rehabilitation of Warri/Sapele Expressway by Okuovo and Okuijorogu; -(Completed), Construction of Okuovo – Kpokpogri – Iriama junction- (Completed and commissioned), Construction of Okwetolor – Okobia – Arhagba Road, Phase 1; (Completed and commissioned), Resurfacing of 11 kilometers Jeddo/Omadino Road; (Completed and commissioned), Construction of Ultra-Modern Open/lock-up shops, Orerokpe; (Completed and commissioned) Construction of Bethel Oborevwori Crescent in Osubi and James Ovie Street in Okuokoko (Ongoing) and Construction of Okwemogwa to link Okuokoko (Ongoing)."
Governor Okowa had said, 188 contracts have been awarded by his administration for the construction of roads out of which 92 roads have been completed with others at different stages of completion. With such bold steps in the award of contracts for the construction of roads, naturally, some persons will conclude that some of the roads will not be completed, but, two days ago, the Governor reassured Deltans, saying, "we are aware of the numerous projects going on in different parts of the state. For every project that we set out to execute, we will complete it, we will not abandon any project because, every project is a result of well thought out process. I am passionate about the development of the state."
Rt. Hon. Oborevwori did not forget his primary functions as a law maker as the event was also used to brief his constituency about his activities as the number one lawmaker of the state.
He said, "I was elected on 11th April, 2015 to represent the Okpe State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly. And by the special grace of God and the benevolence of my colleagues in the House, I was elected Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly on the 11th May, 2017.
The business of every legislature worldwide is to make Laws and perform oversight functions to ensure order, peace and good government. The Sixth Assembly has consciously established a cordial and productive synergy with the Executive arm of government towards ensuring delivery of dividends of democracy to our people. It is worthy of note, that this healthy collaboration has brought the needed atmosphere for the Sixth Assembly to record remarkable achievements. It is pertinent for me to mention here, that before my election as Speaker of the House, I had sponsored and co-sponsored bills and moved motions in the House.
I must specially thank His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, Governor of our dear State, for his show of love and support towards me. Sir, your sterling leadership qualities in governance has engendered peace and massive infrastructural development in the State. You are a leader with a difference. I must say this one thing; our dear Governor is a man who respects the rule of Law. There is a synergy between the House and the Executive to promote order, peace and good government in the State, His Excellency, in his dealings with the Legislature has always maintained and upheld the sanctity of the doctrine of separation of powers. Your Excellency, thank you for leading by example”.
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Barr. Kingsley Esiso expressed joy with the level of empowerment the Speaker embarked on. He commended the Speaker for having a large heart and urged other legislators to emulate the Speaker by empowering their constituents no matter the magnitude of such empowerment programme.
Former Minister of Information and elder statesman, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire and others who spoke at the occasion, commended Governor Okowa for providing the enabling environment for people to contribute to the development of the state.
That prosperity for all Deltans is being felt in all nooks and crannies of the state has reflected in the heavy drop in criminal activities in the state. Idleness among the youths have been reduced and it has contributed to the peaceful nature of the state which had also encouraged investors to be competing to take a fair share of the enabling environment that has been provided for them to have quick returns on their investments.
Communal crisis no longer exist in the state and with the high level of redistribution of wealth through the empowerment programmes, the making of the hitherto jobless youths to be wealth creators through the Job Creation office, the massive employment that is taking place through the construction companies that are executing projects in all the nooks and crannies of the state, with the vacancies created by the industries being established in the state and the great boost to the socio-economic life of Deltans through the provisions of necessary infrastructure, it is evident that prosperity for all Deltans is not only evident, but, it will be sustained for years to come in the oil and gas-rich state that can be accessed through the famous Atlantic Ocean, the River Niger, through two airports that are strategically located and by land.
Surely, "when the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan." Proverb 29: 2. The godly are really in position of authority in Delta State and God is using them to impact on the lives of the people.
God bless Delta State.

Okowa Calls For Commensurate Efforts To Check Effects Of Population Growth

DELTA State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has said growth in Nigeria's population will continue to pose a threat until there are commensurate efforts to provide amenities.
“A nation that prides itself on number instead of the quality of life of the people is heavily challenged,” the Governor said.

He asserted, “we are celebrating high numbers at a time when our economy is not in the best of state, so, there is a huge problem because, for so many years, there has been dysfunctionality in terms of our economic growth and the growth of the population.”
“Even when our gross domestic product (GDP) tended to be high, it was still dysfunctional because it was GDP that flowed from oil production and sales of oill and oil production does not create jobs comparatively, so, there is something wrong and until we begin to look at all the issues, it will continue to be a problem,” he added while calling on Nigerians to reduce the children they bore.
The Governor congratulated Prof. Ukala and urged him and other retirees to engage in mentorship
“A lot of our people are looking for role models, and we need a lot of retirees to guide the younger generation,” the Governor said, adding that Clergymen should also pray for God to direct the affairs of the nation.

“Nigeria as a nation is in terrible time, you are not sure of going to church without being killed, more blood have been shed in recent times, nepotism as it exist in this country is corruption and we pray for new breed of leaders,” Rev. Chukwuka said.

ETHIOPE FEDERAL: SOON TO WITNESS TREMENDOUS SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL TRANSFORMATION.

By Larry Oboh:

No challenge is more urgent. We can either settle for a constituency where a shrinking number of people do really well, while a growing number of Ethiopians barely get by. Or we can restore an economy where everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does his or her fair share, and everyone plays by the same set of rules.

The pursuit of opportunities by individuals and organizations casts a renewed interest on the potential role that effective representation can play in transforming societies through accelerating and sustaining growth, as well as in ensuring that growth is inclusive and equitable across our constituency. The development barriers that Ethiopians continue to face are born of a legacy of low quality in representation and structural disadvantages including social exclusion, unemployment, poor service delivery and state incapacity, all of which continue to stifle the growth of our constituency.

At the heart of development lies a fundamental commitment to improving the well-being of our constituents through the expansion of their social, civil, political, cultural and economic rights. Yet our modern paradox remains a reality in which majority continue to live in impoverished conditions in the midst of surplus wealth and affluence.

Central to these developmental deficits are the challenges, and in some cases, failures of democratic governance engenders new forms of injustice, conflict, organized resistances and state repression. Therefore in the different societal contexts, we must apply a retrospective, present and futuristic approach that focuses on social, economic, political and environmental considerations. Ethiope Federal Constituency however, is still faced with many risks. Our Constituency continues to deal with how to kick-start, accelerate or sustain development, knowing that they face unmet demand for jobs from an increasingly young population.

Ethiope Federal Constituency is about to witness tremendous social, economic and political transformation because a genuine representative is about to emerge. Representatives with great potentials, a human capitalist has to be explored to bring together innovation and brilliant ideas necessary to create opportunities for accelerated and sustained growth with equitable and just development outcomes.
