Unubi (Nnewi South LGA), Aug. 20, 2018 (MOI) Gov. Willie Obiano inaugurated N6 million water project at Unubi, Nnewi South Local Government Area (LGA).

The project was sponsored by member representing Nnewi South Constituency 1 in Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Kingsley Iruba.

The borehole situated at Afor Unubi Market square measures 660 metres in depth, with sophisticated materials to serve for a long time.

It has six big Geepee overhead tanks with an attached 5.5 horse power water pumping machine. It also has a standby electricity generator of 25 KVA installed capacity to power the system.

While inaugurating the project, Gov. Obiano said the essence of governance was to provide for the people what they could not provide for themselves.

Obiano, who was represented by a former Commissioner for Information, Mr Maja Umeh noted that Mr Iruba demonstrated excellent representation by his prompt response to the needs of his people.

The governor while commending him for proper utilisation of constituency funds said he would always support the people of Nnewi to boost socio-economic activities in the area.

``Nnewi South is one of the LGAs that have properly executed their N20 million Community Choose Your Project Initiative.

``I thank you for your immense support, especially in actualising my second term bid. What Mr Iruba accomplished shows good representation.

``Iruba is `god send’ to the people of Nnewi South. The project will aid the people in improving sanitation and help to reduce challenges of water supply to the area,’’ Obiano said.

Mr Iruba explained that the essence of citing the water project at the market was to ensure a healthy environment.

According to Iruba, during the construction of the borehole, it created direct and indirect jobs, as the labourers were from the community.

``The community is expected to take ownership of the facility and generate revenue for the maintenance and sustainability of the project,’’ Iruba said.

The Traditional Ruler of Unubi, Igwe Francis Umunnajiego, said it was unprecedented in the history of Unubi, confirming that no previous legislator had utilised his constituency allowance like Mr Iruba.

Umunnajiego pledged to manage the projects judiciously for the revenue generation and other purposes it was built.

Member representing Ihiala 1 in the state House of Assembly, Mr Chidi Udemmadu and his counterpart in Orumba North, Mr Romanus Obi observed that Iruba was always concerned about the welfare of his constituents.

One of the market women, Mrs Ifeoma Njaba expressed gratitude to Iruba noting that the water would go a long way in ensuring a healthy environment.

She prayed God to bless Iruba over his political ambition. (MOI)

An academic guru in the University of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa, Dr Chinedu Ekwealor has pleaded with federal government to declare Anambra West a natural disaster prone area due to incessant flooding that submerges the communities.

The academic doctor said Anambra West had been neglected by previous administrations, attributing it to poor representation.

He decry that Anambra West known for agricultural activities suffer set back and paucity of agricultural produce due to flood, as a result of torrential downpour.

Ekwealor who made the call while briefing newsmen in Awka said the seven local governments in Anambra North Senatorial District had never experienced quality representation since the demise of the former Senate President, Dr Chuba Okadigbo.

The academic scholar who is also aspiring for Senate for Anambra North Senatorial District under APGA, alleged that the incumbent Senator, Stella Odua had diverted all constituency projects to her community, Ogbaru, leaving other communities to suffer backwardness.

In his words, " The duty of a legislator is to provide for his constituents what they can't provide for themselves.

"It's your duty to tell federal government the challenges we are facing, so they can intervene. But unfortunately, our no one represents our interest in the Senate.

"The constituency allowance is channeled to only a particular community. We have been denied of our right and we must put a stop to it.

"No one in other communities, except for Ogbaru, has benefitted from the federal government recruitment exercises; police, Army and so on.

"Apart from simultaneous development Gov Willie Obiano is doing in all communities, the roads in our senatorial district would have been death trap." Ekwealor emphasized.

The vibrant senatorial aspirant commended Gov Obiano for creating window of opportunities for youth to strive, making them productive and employers of labour.

He urged the youth of Anambra North to take a decisive measure to change the political leadership in the district to further enjoy democratic dividends

Hero Foundation on Tuesday announced its third edition of 2018 Kickstart empowerment programme.

The International Breweries, a subsidiary of AB InBev made the announcement at the company's Headquarters, Onitsha, Anambra State.

Addressing newsmen, the Secretary and General Counsel, International Breweries, Mr Muyiwa Ayojimi said the aim was to tackle employment challenges, especially among the youths of Nigeria.

Mr Ayojimi emphasized that the foundation had since launched in 2016, empowered 64 young entrepreneurs with the sum of N132 Million, for the growth and expansion of their brilliant business plans.

The General Counsel stated that the third edition is targeted at empowering 60 youths who have attractive business plans across different skills.

Announcing the criteria for interested youths, Ayojimi said it is open from August 13 to September 30, 2018, for youths between the ages of 18 to 35 and should visit the foundation website at www.herokickstartnigeria.org.

According to him, "We initially kicked off the programme with youths residing in the core south eastern states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.

"In 2017, we expanded our horizon to include Benue, Delta and Edo states. This year, we will be expanding further to include Rivers State to the list of participating states.

"Applicant who submit outstanding and implementable business proposals are shortlisted for an intensive business training led by experts from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University School of Business.

"They will be trained on the nitty gritty of running a successful business after which they will develop and submit their business proposal". Ayojimi explained.

He stressed that the competent judges would scrutinize the proposals due to its strength and sustainability, adding that the best proposal would be offered a seed capital to either start up or expand their businesses .

On his part, the Mentor and Coordinator of Awardess, Prof Alex Ike Ikeme observed that the rippling effect of the foundation was such that the beneficiaries had employed other youths, geared towards reducing unemployment rates.

Also, one of the beneficiaries of the 2017 Foundation, Mr David Ekwueme who won N3 million as first price said his recycling of plastic waste had advanced due to the hug capital from the foundation.

Mr Ekwueme who had employed 10 persons in his firm, urged other youths to embrace the scheme and stand the chances of becoming employers of labour.

When you sleep at night you sleep consciously and can wake up when anything happens around you when you sleep.
When someone sleeps under the influence of drugs he is half conscious and will never know what is happening around him nor can be awaken easily.
That is why when doctors want to perform surgery they put the patients to sleep through drugs so that the patients will not be aware or feel pain during the surgery. I am waiting for you the smart one to counter my point.
