oawele: @freshface you are making progress but correct me if I am wrong, you said you sent a mail to the two embassies meaning lagos and abuja US embassy. Note that you don't need to send an email to lagos and Abuja embassy but its already done, so for the sake of others readers in this forum, all you need to do is send an email to the embassy you had your interview. for appointment with MIHS, you will need to call the women clinic and politely ask for an appointment to be sent to your email address, but from people's experience with MIHS, I doubt if you would get a response from them. If you do that will be a welcome development.

The womens clinic phone number is somewhere in this thread.

Doesn't really matter. I sent to both lag and Abuja. Preferred Abuja's response and used that at Poe even though I got my visa in lagos

Mrsfad2014: Hello House, I sent a mail to Dr La at WHMC and got a reply that his fee is $3400 excluding pediatric and some other things. I feel that's too much, can anyone in the house help me with any other good Doctor that will not charge this much in WHMC. Thanks

Go to whmc website. Get the list of other obgyn and contact them, you should be able to get a dr for 2k/2k5. You can also explore other hospitals in Houston such as oakbend and Methodist

Ahhhh, nobody beats an alaroro like me.

I'd rather fly to New York (max. 214k) then take a domestic flight (US airways, american airlines, Jet Blue, return to el paso is 66k and to phoenix is 55k , I just checked on www.dohop.com).

If you have not booked your tickets yet, consider flying to Atlanta or NY then buy a domestic ticket at the airport. wink and save some cash!

Compare ticket prices on online agent platforms (not the airlines directly) then get the domestic ticket price on www.dohop.com, thank me later.

Domestic flights won't give you two bag allowance. Except you plan to shop in newyork, you will most likely pay for excess baggage. So don't forget to find the cost of that and work it in to the total cost

@mollydee88. Congrats and you welcome.

@ijaymama you don't need to expedite anything. Dint they tell you at the hospital how soon it will come out? Go to the relevant county, I assume it's fortbend county since my hospital was also at sugarland. Mine came out 4 days post birth

When you get it call Houston passport office downtown for an appointment (check google for the address), drive down there, submit the relevant document and pick up your baby's passport the same day or the next day.

Then get the Naija visa, using an agent or however you choose. all these can be done in two weeks

From thababe

Total cost for Methodist Katy
Hospital -3,100 if paid before the end of the 8th month of pregnancy. Apparently this covered pediatrician while at the hospital

Dr Zimmerman - $1,400 (we hear it's now $1,600)

Total test done - $70

Ultrasound - $150

Pathology- $204, however received a 40 percent discount

Total amount spent was under $5k

I agree! I don't understand the basis for Dr La's sharp increase in price....I guess he's now made enough money from Nigerian women , so he's become choosy. I'll advice anyone looking to use WHMC to check out other gyneas there as you could pay as low as $1800 sef.

@Uchetobi, hope you're good? Kisses to the baby...

ebonyademi: i got info on an hospital in houston http://westhoustonmedical.com/ for some of us considering houston. Dr. La. email addy: sharshman@doctorla.com. you can send her a mail for the the break down on all maternity package. find attached what i got from her

That pricing has even revised upwards. Email them for the current pricing
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by uchetobi(f): 11:27am On Jul 25, 2014
mamacajah: @ebonyademi, does this cover hospital bills or only doctors' bills? I got this email from WHMC previous when I was searching for hospitals in houston as well.

"Congrats on your pregnancy! We are taking new clients. We provide complete maternity care and do both home births and birth center births. Our self pay package fee is $4,000. This includes prenatals, standard labs, labor and birth, and postpartum checkups. Of course, you can make payments. A non-refundable $400 payment is due down towards your total at your first prenatal visit. This does not include, pediatric care, circumcision, emergency transport, ultrasound( if needed), additional lab testing (if needed). "

So we do need to clarify what it is. If I remember correctly, others who used WHMC paid hospitals seperately from doctor's fee (before the tsunami on the site). I hope others who used Dr. La would help us on this. Thanks.

It excludes hospital which is about $2,500 for whmc.

Dr la is the most expensive dr in whmc. Go to their website and contact other doctors with admission privileges at the hospital. The others average $2,000 to $2,500 for what dr la charges $4,000

There are other hospitals/ drs in Houston you can also consider like oakbend, Methodist, etc

Thanks for your response. Please I also need clarification on the passport application form ds11 I discovered that on the passport form precisely no 18 travel plan is required ie. travel date and return date. How do I go about that. Does it mean I have to bring the baby back to USA on the return date or that portion is meant for minors above 16years. Pls I need an urgent response.

I can't remember filling that part o! I dint fill the form manually. I did it online then printed out

I don't think it might take that long. My wife went for her interview on a friday, she was told they needed to confirm her details from WHMC and Dr Rizk. I discussed with a friend the following thursday who advised i should call them to know d status. Fortunately, i called the consular office on friday, exactly a week after her interview and to the lady's surprise she thought my wife had been contatcted to come submit her passport. They immediately contacted my wife to come submit her passport. she submitted on tuesday and by close of business on wednesday, her visa was ready for pick up.
Although cases are judged individually, i hope and pray yours is resolved soonest. However like i said earlier, keep calling them.
All the best.

I see. Amen and all the best tk2014

dinawe: Yes oh! The arik thing, they have reviewed their policy, it's now 34 weeks. I saw it on their website and i called the office to confirm. You can travel from 30-34 weeks with your fit to fly (doctor's report). You can check it our your self: http://www.arikair.com/health-matters

Since it's on their website, you have a strong reason against them if they bounce you. For now, arik is the most affordable and they have a good POE, New york.

That policy is not new. It's always been like that, however in reality they turn back 30 wks plus because I think ori777's interpretation is what they mean.

Anyways, sounds like you've bought your ticket. I hope it works out for you. Your feedback will be appreciated

Have a little change of plans. Will be going with Arik to New york. (Lufthansa and air france are on the high side). Then from New york to Elpaso.
Hope to leave on the 16th of September.

How far along will you be then? Arik does not carry pregnant women more than 30 weeks old and they won't accept your fit to fly. They will send you upstairs to be examined so make sure you will be less than 30weeks then

I guess the tsunami wiped out the previous tales of arik air

FriedFish: Good day house, i really need your advice.
My parents intend to spend their leave in the US, an aunt (my mom's sister) is the one inviting them over. My dad is to accompany my mom. My first question to the house is:
1) does my dad need to fill his own DS160 non immigrant form; as he is going as an a companion.

he didnt fill the DS160 online, because he was listed on my mom's DS160

with the confirmation number from my mom's application online we went on to make to make payment for both of them at GTB and got two reference numbers to book for an interview appointment next week.

opened a single profile using my mom's details, included my dad as well as her companion but we were required to put in a DS160 number, so we used the same number as the one used for my mom.

after choosing a date for interview; this notice showed up on the final confirmation page:
" PLEASE NOTE THAT ONE OR MORE OF THE DS-160 NUMBERS USED TO SCHEDULE THIS APPOINTMENT CAN NOT BE VALIDATED.
INCORRECT DS-160 NUMBERS MAY LEAD TO A DELAY IN BEING PROCESSED."

Please house what should we do?? should my dad go on to fill a DS160 form and should we cancel the old appointment and book a new one? what would be the implication of rescheduling? would we need to make new payments?

Your dad needs to fill a ds160 form. Every applicant needs an individual form. He is not the same person as your mother na!

Fill a form for him and update accordingly

TK2014: Good afternoon house, I have been following this trend for a while but unfortunately could not read all comments before the site was attacked. Please i need advise, i went for my Visa interview at Abuja on tuesday with all necessary documents obtained from Doctores para ti, but when interviewed the lady stated that they needed to confirm the letter and receipt submitted and would get back to us. I want to know if anyone has had this experience and how long it took before they reverted back to you. Also when filling the form a wrong email address was inputted. Would they reply via email or would they call.

You are under administrative processing. It can take a month to three months. Iv read about similar situations on this thread. If you still have time, before you are due, relax your mind and follow up occasionally maybe bi-weekly

dinawe: @ jaysmom: I had a similar case. Guess you called their office right? I wasn't able to buy my baby ticket online or via phone, i was told i could only get it the day i was travelling.

Believe me, it got better on that day, I wen't to the airport with $1,000 dollars but paid less than $150 at the end of the day (for a return ticket because she is a US citizen, you can't take her out of her country without a return ) and i also got a free feeding voucher worth $50 for myself. The return ticket was valid for a year so another trip made within that year was completely free for my daughter.

I was overwhelmed. Hope the same happens in your case but you can go to their office to verify, those chaps that answer their calls don't really know much.

Hope this helps.

On British air and most non American airline you can buy a one way ticket for a us citizen.

Just clarifying for those that haven't bought their ticket yet.

@those considering Methodist, west Houston I will soon be posting Tha na w'a breakdown as her account was wiped away in the tsunami

jaysmom: Thanks everyone for the wonderful inputs. Please I need help with buying my baby's ticket. I'm flying Delta and they are asking that I pay $635 dollars for an infant return ticket. They are even asking that I buy my next ticket as an infant cannot return alone. They are also saying I can't buy it now until my travel date and I'm wondering if it won't get higher by then. Please whoever flew/will fly Delta should help. If I'm not mistaken, I think Uchetobi and Beyunce flew Delta, please help.

I flew British air. I dint have that return ticket problem. I think it's common to American airlines although Tha babe also had the problem with airfrance.

The ticket is probably that high because it's also summer. I think the price will remain the same as the day you will buy at the airport!

Safe trip

corrall: Hi,

Mojayo, you have still not explained to us, Non-yoruba's what OKA is.

Well, in my opinion, lets be really careful what we say here. its quite disturbing to say a newborn needs agbo, for what na? say pikin refuse to drink from bottle and prefers em mama bosom, na em be say e need agbo. HA!!!.

Situations can make a mother not be able to do EBF for 6 months. D lady even try sef, she did for 3 months. I never did exclusive for one day, my mum (a nurse) never allowed it, for the purpose that this lady is complaining of.

Anyways, lets just watch what we state here as there are a lot of people that depend on our contributions.

thanks.

The matter tire me o! Agbo for a newborn of 3 months because he is refusing bottle!

It's pure play nippl.e confusion. The baby is not used to the artificial nippl.e since he has only been exposed to the real one for the entire three months of his life

@dinah777 in response to your 'how do people get rewarded by del sol"

Do you really think everybody posting here is a pregnant mom or potentially pregnant mom looking to give birth in the states?

Pls best believe that we have doctors, agents of hospitals, hotels, short stay apartments and doctors, etc moonlighting with us here and steering people to a particular place.

Iv been on Nairaland for 9 years! Every thread has marketers, agents, representative of both local and international companies trolling about.

Have you asked yourself while these negative reviews for Mihs always ends up exulting doctoresperati?

Or have you seen any negative review of mihs that dint praise elpaso or don't have anything to do with elpaso? Point me to that post if there is

Are they the only two hospitals in the USA? Lol!!!

You shouldn't have bothered immediately I saw your post I pitied you cos I knew they were coming for you:everyone else on this thread has a right to share information and their experience and even compare as long as it has nothing to do with your experience @Del Sol because then you are termed as an agent-bear the attack it's the reason some of us will never come back to share our experience we have been silenced!!!!
And maybe they are right Justwise should just delete every post about Del Sol so newcomers to this thread won't even know it exists and cannot have that as an option that way it will be a happy thread (The almighty expensive controversial El Paso with all it's agents is gone)if this had been done long ago I wonder what would have happened to people like me where this thread was my only source of information.SMH @ what it has become.

You can share your experience without running mihs down or comparing with mihs. That's an easy way to spot dosresperati agents!

Besides their pattern of writing is the same. It's unfortunate that we lost some pages else IDv quoted some past post so u can compare the pattern of writing with abujamomma71!

A lot of people are in Mihs now, if she truly used it let her say the day she gave birth and where she stayed so that it can be verified once and for all. And that's a DARE btw.

How come nobody that has contributed meaningfully to the thread, or someone that has interacted with other nairalanders in mihs, or better still, someone that has reviews about Mihs in comparison to a place that is not elpaso posted any negative review about mihs. Common now it's a no brainer!

I dint use mihs, I have no plans of using it but I hate deceptive people camouflaging as agents to give dishonest reviews.

@solid homes, buy groceries and cereals so you can be a bit independent of the cooking at your hosts house. Pls dont starve the baby. If you have friends in the US, you can go visit them and come back because hosting a visitor for so long may be tiring on your host, especially since you people are not family and also their financial standing may not b so great. If you cant then support them by doing general cooking twice a week or pitching in with general groceries or so.

@ peacenigeria, pls tell us the whole story, i think you left some bits out as it stands, it doesnt really add up

@ome240, attend the interview with a copy of your marriage cert and official change of name notification. Also dont worry about being unable to upload your passport digitally. That option does not work. Just get the physical passport in the right specification and hold it with you for the interview

@babysykes, you can try but i dont think they will collect those documents from you. Try and declare all those info when you are filling your form

@tomdiski...try and find a hotel in elpaso that you can book for three months...someone on this forum got rejected cuz he booked only one month. You can cancel and book insuites or any accomodation of your choice after your interview.
Try to also have a budget sheet that shows how much the birth will cost, the accomodation, the flight, etc and the sum total cost to you so you are fully prepared and you look organized. your acc statement should show you have this sum in excess. Good luck

@jyde2014..with regards to the test you can do in Nigeria, check the doctorsperati website, i think it has a list of necessary test. You can use that as a guide. Alternatively, you can call up your chosen dr's office and make the enquiry
