CelebritiesTop British Disk Jockey To Perform Live Show On Mount Everest by udemzeus(op): 6:54am On Apr 12, 2017
Influential British DJ Paul Oakenfold has prepared to break history as he reached Mount Everest’s base camp where he plans to host the “highest party on earth”, performing a set at 5,380 metres (17,600 feet).'

As climbing season in Nepal kicks into gear, few of the mountaineers heading to the world’s highest peak were likely expecting to be joined by the three-time Grammy nominated artist and his dance beats.

Oakenfold — whose three-decade long career has included collaborations with Madonna and U2 — is due to perform a set at base camp on Tuesday morning.

“We are here now doing sound checks. We are really looking forward to the show tomorrow. Everyone is really excited here,” Oakenfold told AFP by phone from base camp on Monday.
The 53-year-old artist said he had no trekking experience before he set out on the 10-day walk to Everest with a team of yaks and porters hauling the audio equipment needed for the event.
Oakenfold trained for four months before arriving in Nepal in between a hectic schedule of late night gigs, he said.
“I’m not going to pretend it was easy to get here… but it has been a wonderful trek. If you could see the view I’m looking at, it is very inspiring,” he said.
The world’s highest peak will provide a very different kind of high to Oakenfold’s usual shows, which often draw thousands of revellers.
“The audience will probably be sitting mostly. The air is so thin here, you will run out of breath quite quickly,” said Ranzen Jha, a Nepali DJ accompanying Oakenfold.
The gig is the first in the record producer’s SoundTrek series, aimed at drawing attention to the effects of global warming and raising money for charities.
Oakenfold is also raising funds to help survivors of Nepal’s devastating 2015 earthquake, which killed nearly 9,000 people and left thousands homeless, many of whom are still living in temporary shelters.
“I want to support in the rebuilding and to shed light on the environment… I would like to do my bit,” he said.
But not everyone is keen on the idea, with some complaining that the renowned DJ is disturbing the peace and tranquility of the Himalayas.

RomanceCan A Man And A Woman Ever Be Friends by udemzeus(op): 1:59pm On Mar 19, 2017
The cordial relationship between a man and a woman has been a question for ages.

Can men and women ever be just friends?

It is the eternal question that When Harry Met Sally set out to answer in 1989, and endless romcoms have continued to debate in the decades since (Friends with Benefits, 13 Going on 30 and so on).

Now a new study has shed light on the age-old question, but instead of focusing on the "se* part” that Billy Crystal’s Harry was so preoccupied by, it looks at what I’ve always suspected to be the real problem between the genders: how they define friendship.

While women view their best friends as something in between sisters and soul mates, men see theirs purely in terms of convenience. Oxford University’s evolutionary psychologist Professor Robin Dunbar discovered this when exploring how people’s friendship circles changed when they left school for university.
“What determined with original friendships whether they survived with girls was whether they made effort to talk more to each other on the phone,” he explained. “Talking had absolutely no effect on boys’ relationships at all. What held up their friendships was doing stuff together. Going to a football match, going to the pub for a drink, playing five a side. They had to make the effort."

He went on to look at the differences between the sexes: “Women clearly have much more intense close friendships. Guys tend not to have that relationship. They tend to have a group of four guys that they do stuff with. That is much more casual. With guys it is out of sight out of mind. They just find four more guys to go drinking with.
This will be familiar to any woman who has had both the pleasure and disappointment of a close male friend - particularly in your twenties and thirties. At first, things are wonderful. Life is full of great catch ups, and laughter over pints of beer. They listen to your woes, and you help them with their woman problems. It’s the friendship neither of you knew you needed.
Only then, something changes. They start a new relationship. They move to a new postcode (really, it doesn’t have to be far). They get a new job with a ready-made social life. They get a new flatmate. Whatever the change, they suddenly have a replacement for you, and can't seem to find the time to meet you for that coffee.
You, naively, keep trying. You call them, you send jokey pictures and do exactly what you’d do if a girl friend was growing distant: bombard her with the attention you wish that she was showing you. Except with a male friend, it just doesn’t work.
Whether it is nature or nurture, most men simply do not view friendships in the same way as women. Se* is hardly the issue - it is the practical problem of how much time and effort they are able to put into a platonic relationship. As the study says, there's always another drinking buddy around the corner.
Men reading this may feel unfairly judged. So I put it to a colleague and current male friend (let’s be honest, the second we stop sharing a desk, I’ll never hear from him again). “Some of my best friends are women,” he says vaguely.
When I ask him if the effort he makes with friends is comparable to that his girlfriend makes with hers, he begrudgingly accepts that he could not spend hours on the phone with his pals - of either se*.
I’ve lost count of the male friends who have disappeared over the years. Often, it coincides with the arrival of a new girlfriend. But contrary to popular interpretation, it is rarely to do with that new girlfriend’s jealousy. As one former male friend charmingly told me: “I have to hear all my girlfriend’s emotional stresses now. I don’t have time for yours.”
With male mates like that, it’s probably no surprise that all my efforts go into my female friendships. And now the academics have backed my choice.

please lets discuss

Today we take a look back on how Nigeria as a country began it existence, colonial , amalgamation era and also how it was sold to the British for the sun of 865000£ pounds, 17billion nairawhen converted to the present day.
The second industrial revolution which put Britain at the forefront of technological development necessitated a huge demand for palm oil which was necessary to power industrial machines. The Niger Delta region was the world’s leading producer of this much south-after oil. The demand for palm oil and its supply was at first uncoordinated with local farmer selling to the highest bidders. Tribal leaders especially those who were former slaves who had dealings with the Europeans were influential and became wealthy due to the oil trade.
The Europeans were however at loggerhead as to which country would have preferential access to the palm oil. The formation of the United African Company by George Go

HealthSide Effects Of Bleaching, stories And Lots More by udemzeus(op): 3:28am On Jul 17, 2016
I was surfing round the internet and I felt we should have at least an idea of this. MOTUNRAYO JOEL, in this concluding part of a two-part series, writes about women who have stopped bleaching their skinbecause of the side effects arising from such practice and the alternatives to bleaching for those who would like to lighten their skin Vivian Eleta, 23, is a fair-skinned petty trader with a love for beautiful things. Five years ago, Eleta hit on an idea to look evenbmore beautiful for her husband. She opted to lighten her skin with bleaching creams. “I bleached in order to look good for my husband. When I first started bleaching my skin used to look nice. But after a year orbtwo, I noticed changes in my body: some parts of my legs werebfair and other parts looked really dark,” she said. By this time Eleta had formed the habit of spending a significant amount of the proceeds from her trade on bleaching creams every month.“These changes got me really worried, especially when people began to stare at me and my husband also began to complain. Then, I also noticed that whenever I injured myself, the wound took a longer time to heal. Later I learnt that it was the fragility of my skin that prevented the wounds on my body from healing fast,” she said. Although Eleta has since stopped using bleaching creams, the spots on her body remain, serving as constant reminders of her futile quest to be more beautiful.Mercy Omowale’s experience is also similar to that of Eleta.Omowale started using bleaching creams two years ago. Nowadays, she is quick to grumble about the challenges of living with the side effects of bleaching creams.“The sun is my problem. It is a big challenge. Anytime I walk in the sun it would be like my skin is burning. I really want to stop bleaching, but I don’t want my skin to turn dark too. I like my fair skin,” she said, with resignation.Health experts say complications from skin bleaching are not only unhealthy for the sufferer, but may also be offensive to those around them. A 2008 study by the International Society of Dermatology published in thegrio.com , revealed that people who bleached their skin over a prolonged period of time developed a body odour that smelt like rotten fish. The condition is called the “fish odour syndrome.” Scientists say this syndrome is caused by the excretion of a chemical called trimethylamine in the sweat, saliva, urine and vaginal secretions.Exogeneous ochronosis However, an offensive odour is not the only headache that bleachers have to cope with. A Consultant Physician/ Dermatologist Skin Surgeon, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Michael Akolawole, said people who bleached for several years would usually develop a condition called exogenous ochronosis. The symptoms of exogenous ochronosis include skin darkening, blue and grayishhyperpigmentation and bumps on skin.Exogeneous ochronosis is a term that Bunmi Adeoye, who is in her late 30s, knows very well. She said people assumed she is in her late 40s, because of her bleached skin. She said, “(Some years after I started bleaching) My skin, all of absudden, began to turn pale and lose itsbelasticity. I alsobdeveloped a dark pigmentation around my eyes and on mybforehead. When I went to the hospital, my doctor called thebcondition ochronosis.b“I am quite pained anytime I look at my face and skin. Despite the fact that I have stopped using bleaching creams, I cannot reverse my skin to the way it was, prior to my bleaching.”Kayode Lawal, the chairman of one of thepopular markets on Lagos mainland, does not know the name of the condition that has made him sun shy for many years. Lawal bleaches his skin. At the market, unlike other traders, Kayode does not stay in his shop. Rather, he supervises his ‘boys’ from a salon close to the market. He seats in the airy salon from morning till evening for fear that sunlight or heat would cause further damage to his skin. Lawal refused to speak with our correspondent but a fellow trader, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, sa

CelebritiesPopular Nigerian Musician Goes Missing After Releasing Anti-corruption Song by udemzeus(op): 2:11pm On Jun 29, 2016
A popular musician in the North East has gone missing just days after releasing a scathing song accusing local lawmakers of corruption, police and family said Wednesday.

Ado Dahiru Daukaka went missing in the Adamawa State capital, Yola, after he left his house early on Friday to offer dawn prayers at a mosque.

His new song accuses politicians from President Muhammadu Buhari’s ruling party of corruption and predicts they will not be voted in the 2019 election
The song “Gyara Kayanka”, or ‘Put your house in order’ in the local Hausa language, accuses local lawmakers of being selfish and corrupt.

The family of the singer said he was a political target.

“It is obvious his disappearance is an abduction by some interests who are infuriated by his latest song which exposed corruption among legislators at the state house of assembly,” Daukaka’s relative Atiku Mustapha told AFP.

“We believe they abducted him as a warning to other critics like him. They just want to muzzle critics,” Mustapha said.

Hadiza Adamu, one of the singer’s two wives, said he had no enemies.

“My husband is not known to be at loggerheads with any one. The only explanation we could provide is that he could have angered some powerful interests with his songs,” said Adamu, who gave birth just five days before he went missing.

“We call on whoever is behind his disappearance to have pity on us and release him unharmed,” she said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Adamawa State Command, Othman Abubakar, said an investigation has been launched but declined to comment if the disappearance was linked to the song.

Fierce critics

Daukaka became popular following Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999 with a hit in praise of then-state governor Murtala Nyako.

Local singers are fierce critics in northern Nigeria with their songs that tackle everything from forbidden love to political discontent.

One of the country’s most popular singers, Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, was imprisoned by Buhari during his short-lived reign as military ruler in the 80’s.

Kuti’s arrest on charges of currency smuggling were dismissed by human rights groups who argued he was a political detainee after criticising the government.
