This chicken has black bones, organs and the meat is still black when cooked. There are four breeds of this chicken with same colour and all of them possess same genetic mutation which a scientist explains how it came about. The ayam cemani chicken may be the most deeply pigmented creature on earth, Not only are the birds feather, beak, comb tongue and toes a striking blue-ish black but so are it's bones. Even the meat looks like it has been marinated in a squid ink, interestingly, the cemani which is found in Indonesia is just the most extreme example of what scientist call dermal hyperpigmentation. Another breed known as the silkie Because of it's soft hair-like feathers Also spot hyperpigmented skin and tissue as do the black H'Mong chicken of Vietnam and svarthona of Sweden. Scientist call this condition fibromelanosis. "We have evidence that it's a complex rearrangement in the genome" says Leif Andersson a geneticist at uppsala University in Sweden who studies the genetics of domestic animals. Andersson says All of this chicken can trace their mutation back to a single bird that may have lived hundred or even thousands of years ago. The mutation underlying fibromelanosis is very peculiar, so we are sure it occurred once" says Andersson. Now that you know about the black chicken. Can you eat this kind of chicken meat?
