@ Backslidder, You are truly a good Nigerian. I attended primary school in the East, secondary in St. Finbarr's Lagos, then OAU and ABU, speak Yoruba fluently and understand some Hausa. I have sisters married to yoruba, hausa and igbo men, have cousins, nieces, nephews from many of the tribes in Nigeria. My closest friends are a mix of Urhobo, Yoruba, Hausa, Ijaw and Igbo. I do these relationships great harm by assuming any other stance than one which tries to unite Nigerians against the negative perceptions of the rest of the world. I take umbrage at people whose view of life is so narrow that 'the eye of the needle' is an autobahn in comparison. |
demmy: Ugwumba:@ demmy, thanks - my exact point. |
ziddy:@ ziddy, your attempt to be 'objective', as you call it, demonstrates how narrow minded one can get in his small world. 1. Okay, accepting that the importation of fake goods is an 'igbo' crime (can bet you there are customs people of all tribes that are involved with this crime ring), what of other financial crimes committed in the UK (predominantly by another Nigerian tribe). 2. In the list of 'pen' thieves in Nigeria, are there only Igbo people? 3. The trafficking in children and human parts is not an Igbo crime. 4. Illegal prostitution in Italy and most of Europe is not an igbo crime. 5. Kidnapping and demanding ransome is clearly not carried out by your Igbo brothers. 6. Electoral fraud is not perpetrated by only the igbo man. 7. Terrorism and genocide are not igbo crimes. 8. 419 is not a crime perpetrated by Igbos alone. I could go on and on and on, All these crimes are a great disservice to our country and, together, are what give us the negative image we have. Grow out of your narrow mindedness and wake up to the reality of the Nigerian situation - we all work together to redeem an image all tribes have been involved in sullying. |
I would advise anyone who thinks one tribe is wholly responsible for Nigeria's corrupt image to take the following link to EFCC's website and check the 'Most Wanted' list, which is compiled in partnership with international organistions. http://www.efccnigeria.org Of the 7 most wanted, 5 have Yoruba names, one has an Ibo name (and amusingly is the only one identified by Tribe), and one is from the North. Would we then use this to draw a conclusion that the yoruba are the most involved in financial crimes? Probably not, because this would not be true. |
This silliness will never end. ![]() NIGERIA is a country of many corrupt people from different tribes. The corruption is of many kinds - stealing government money, kidnapping and demanding ransomes, credit card fraud, yahoo fraud, 419, bank fraud, child slavery & trafficking, intellectual property fraud, trafficking in human parts, etc. For every name of one ethnic group you associate with one type of crime, there is another from a different ethnic group committing a different kind of crime. If bashing one tribe for Nigeria's negative image makes y'all feel good, please go ahead, knowing that all this will not make an iota of difference to your own image as a Nigerian. |
