Read more at http://www.ihealthng.com/2016/08/marijuana-use-can-lead-to-laziness.html?m=1 The new study conducted by researchers from University of British Columbia in Canada suggests marijuana use could lead to laziness after they found an active compound in marijuana (tetrahydrocannabinol) which made rats less willing to attempt a challenging task. The lead study author Mason Silveira, of the Department of Psychology at Columbia, and colleagues noted that previous studies have suggested the activation of cannabinoid receptors can affect decision-making related to physical effort, making an individual physically lazy. About 29 male rats were trained by the researchers to complete a behavioral experiment, which involves them deciding whether they wanted to complete an easy or difficult cognitive task in order to receive a reward. The easy task required the rats to react to a light that flashed for 1 second. This task earned them one sugar pellet. While the difficult task is for the rats to react to a light that flashed for only 0.2 seconds, which gave them two sugar pellets. The rats completed the task under normal conditions and after they were given THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) independently and combined. After the task, the researchers found that under normal conditions, the rats opted for the more difficult task which earning them a higher reward. While they opted for the easier task after being given THC. The authors conclude that further research is warranted to determine the underlying mechanisms by which THC alters decision-making. |
femivita112:sorry am coming in again..... i just noticed that their are no webmaster in the list of judges. http://www.ihealthng.com/2016/07/women-with-big-butts-are-smarter-and.html?m=1 According to new research women with big butts are smarter, healthier and less likely to suffer from chronic illnesses. The study which was conducted by Oxford University analysed data from 16,000 women. After which they found out that women with larger than average butts are more smarter and also more resistant to chronic illnesses. They also found out that women with bigger butts are likely to have lower levels of cholesterol and glucose, as well as higher levels of Omega 3 fats. The Lead researcher of the study professor Konstantinos Manolopoulous said: "The idea that body fat distribution is important to health has been known for some time. However, it is only very recently that thigh fat and a large hip circumference have been shown to promote health; that lower body fat is protective by itself." Women with bigger butts are also favoured with a hormone called Dinopectina (anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic) and an adipose tissue of the bum which prevents cardiovascular disease. |

Read more:http://www.ihealthng.com/2016/07/chickens-could-protect-against-malaria.html?m=1 According to a new research, chicken emit odors that deter mosquitoes from feeding on them. The researchers investigated what species the mosquito Anopheles arabiensis preferred based on the odors emitted because mosquitoes primarily use their sense of smell in order to select their host species. The researchers first gathered data on potential host species (cattle, chickens and humans) in three villages in Ethiopia (Wama Kusaye, Baka-Bora and Machara) and also collected blood-fed mosquitoes from inside and outside houses in those three villages and analyzed the sources of the blood so as to find out which species they had fed on. The team found that the mosquitoes preferred human blood over animal blood when looking for host indoors and cattle, goats, and sheep when outdoors. But the researchers found they avoid chickens both indoors and outdoors. The researchers in a bid to assess the odor to which mosquitos are attracted to, collected different samples (hair, wool, and feathers) from host and non-host species and applied the identified odor compounds to mosquito traps which were installed in 11 houses in one of the villages for 11 days. In each of the houses, one person slept under a bed net that had not been treated with mosquito repellant. The researchers found out that fewer mosquitoes were caught in traps laced with odor compounds from chicken feathers compared with traps that had been laced with odor compounds from cattle and other host species. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there were around 214 million malaria cases across the globe last year and approximately 438,000 deaths from the disease. Sub-Saharan Africa which has the highest malaria burden accounted for 89 percent of malaria cases and 91 percent of malaria deaths in 2015. The researchers are now to focus on using the isolated chicken odors to formulate a mosquito repelling product with WHO guidelines. |
Read more at http://www.ihealthng.com/2016/07/vaginal-ring-protects-women-from-hiv.html?m=1According to researchers, vaginal ring (a silicone ring with an antiviral drug) can protect 75 percent or more of women from the AIDS virus. The ring which has been designed to give women a discreet way to protect themselves from infection during sex or when the male partner refuses to use a condom releases a drug called "dapirivine", which can help stop the virus from infecting cells. A team of researchers told the International AIDS Conference in Durban, South Africa that on average, women's risk of catching the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was cut by 56 percent after studies were designed to see if women could be encouraged to use it consistently and whether it worked better if they did. However, other studies suggested it wasn't always improper use that was to blame if the ring did not work well. A big factor might be the type of bacteria living in and on a woman's body. One study of 120 women found that those with an overgrowth of bacteria called Prevotella bivia were almost 20 times likely to be infected with HIV than those with lower levels. Another study of more than 3,000 women found those with what's considered a healthful balance of bacteria in the vagina responded better to a drug called tenofovir when it was used as a microbicide. The goal of the vaginal ring and similar products, called microbicides, is to provide men and women, with a variety of ways to protect themselves. Once-a-day pills used in an approach called pre-exposure prophylaxis or PrEP can reduce the risk of catching HIV by 90 percent of more if people use it consistently. But studies suggest it could be difficult for young African women to stick to due to the fact that it's expensive. HIV infects 36.9 million people around the world, according to the United Nations AIDS agency UNAIDS. Two million people are infected every year and more than a million die of AIDS. |
