xp17: help needed!

I can't pray or study the bible anymore.

how do I get myself back to prayer and bible study? .......would it be possible without attending a church?

I have held by bible for few days, I take it everywhere I go , yet unable to open it.
I just want to bounce back with kinda personal fellowship with God. but attending a church ain't no opinion for now, because I don't like what they preach, I prefer what is written.

Hi. I've been there.
The first thing you need to do is figure out why you can't pray or study the bible. Is it something you read, watched, heard? Or you just don't "feel" like you used to about Christianity?
Figure that out.

Secondly, I don't see why you don't want to go to church, but you can always listen to sermons on tv or try podcasts. I've found those to be a good substitute. Also try read Christian books too. You don't want to stay totally out of touch. Alternatively you can visit websites of Christian writers.

Spend more time listen to others talk about God and Jesus, and think about the disconnection you feel. Tell yourself the truth while you're thinking. Then you need to have faith that God hears you. No matter how hard praying seems now, still go on your knees and spill. I mean spill literally. Rant, rave, tell God exactly what's going on like you would your mum and ask for help. Trust me, you'll get it.

The most important step however is for you to pick up an actual bible and read it. Don't worry about the words, God will speak to you like he did me. Don't worry about it feeling right, and remember that God says he's got you and has no plan of letting you go. Push yourself. You'll never get anything done if you continue to wonder why you can't do anything.

Blessings.

Iceman296: Your comment here reeks of Ignorance. Every state in Nigeria has its own Ills, so dont single out bayelsa like there's nothing good that can Come out of it. Atleast they produced the Current President of the Federal Republic and their people hold Strategic Positions.

They're still very much Developing, its simply a work in Progress.

You wanna really see bad Governance? Go to Abia State
Very touchy people grin
We are discussing Bayelsa here, not Abia. When there's a thread for Abia I'll talk about what I've observed there too.
Until then, take this in good faith and believe im not trying to bash any state.

And here they come grin

Since when did saying the truth become insult? Of course there are prostitutes everywhere as well as there are decent people too. I just happened to find a higher proportion of the former than the latter. No need to take offense hun, I'm sure the good Lord will visit the people of Bayelsa just like he did many other states.

Great write up!
I find number 3 to be very true, and the 80-20 principle works just fine. Do less, achieve more. No need to end your life just because you're trying to make ends meet.

I particularly like how all the points here are very interrelated smiley In summary just Live, and live as best as you can.
BusinessRe: Bayelsa Is Nigeria’s Investment Destination Secret –dickson by UjSizzle(f): 9:17am On Jul 18, 2014
Bayelsa has to be the worst state I ever walked into.
Their infrastructural development is really poor. Wealth distribution is nothing to write home about. Standard and cost of living in Yenegoa sucks big time. And their government? The government is the worst thing to have happened to that village state.
Bayelsa is in need of deliverance from the clutches of bad governance undecided

The only thing I can see Bayelsa boast of is hotels (hear Mama Peace owns most of them) and prostitutes.

Like Whitemosquito said, people need to be careful what they say Amen to undecided I've heard some of the weirdest prayers sha.
One day someone said, may everything that died in your life be resurrected, and I was like undecided seriously?
Some people say I don't pay attention when prayer's going on because I open my eyes and stare at whoever is praying. Why should my eyes be closed if nothing is distracting me againhuh
Anyway I've seen weird shiit in church sha.....the length we go to make some money is appalling as well as hilarious.

Hi smiley Could you not type like this next time pls? It makes reading extremely difficult.

As for your question, this is nothing short of what happens in some churches today. They ask you to make a sacrifice(seed sowing) after telling you stories of people who did and miraculously got cured of AIDs and one affliction or the other. Then they start calling certain amounts--say #50,000 working their way to #1000, and ask people to pledge with promises that on a future date something marvelous will come their way.

While I'm not against seed sowing and sacrifices, I have a problem with people who deceptively coerce others into it. You should check some churches account to see how many people owe unredeemed pledges to the church.
