PoliticsRe: Why The Emergence Of Saraki Is Not A Victory For Democracy-by Gr8amechi by Unblockable: 11:06pm On Jun 09, 2015
Gr8amechi:
Note my points all these are build up for 2019 just like Tambuwal was, note also if Saraki nd Ike makes Buhari tenure to fail it will be a sell out for their president and VP ticket that would most likely revive PDP or form a new party, note also that Saraki is ambitious and getting this means getting anything. I have always supported him, even on Twitter and Facebook because I felt the npdp need to be compensated but note this way, not selling the position of the DSP
I've always supported him as well but when I realised that the defunct ANPP hasn't got anything tangible from the APC, I withdrew my support. President is CPC, VP is ACN, the Senate President should come from the ANPP. Anyway, since Saraki's thirst for power has rendered the calculation null and void, then Ogbonnaya Onu of the defunct ANPP should be made the SGF!

Saraki shall surely fail...If 56 APC Senators should unite, they would only need about 10 PDP Senators who may have felt betrayed by Saraki then to oust him. To get those 10 won't be hard. 5 core Northern PDP Senators would perform the magic. Note that Ali Ndume has been betrayed and he's back to his normal senses now!

Gr8amechi:
I have been a dedicated follower of senator Bukola Saraki until today but with his actions today put great fears in my heart about how he betrayed his party today just to achieve his own personal ambitions, this means he can as well sell out the nation if need be to make him president, though I have always wanted him to be SP I never understood why Tinubu never wanted him till now, for those happy about this I feel we should think twice, how can a man betray his party completely ?? how can he sell out the position of DSP to PDP does it mean no APC senator in his camp worth it?? Buhari will regret his silence over this very issue......note this and check back 2019 Saraki will be Nigerian president at all cost
I was enjoying your write-up until I got to where you said he would be Nigeria's President at all cost come 2019. Buhari might regret his silence but there's never a way Saraki would become the President. Lemme tell you, with what happen today, Northeast would never support a Presidential Candidate from the North Central zone in the nearest future, they would rather support a Southerner because they felt betrayed by Saraki. Also, lemme assure you that the Yorubas would never support Saraki come 2019 if their son (Osinbajo) is still in the permutation. Northwest would always be for Buhari. Northeast would still support Buhari. His only stronghold is Kwara or maybe some part of Kogi. Saraki would surely regret this.

Does the Senate President have immunityhuh

the greed of the SW caused all this.Instead of the entire south to unite behind Hon Pally iriase the ony ranking member of the APC from the SS/SE ,they wanted to take the entire slots from the south.Serves thenm right!!! If they had succeeded they would have been bragging about how they are the masters of Nigeria's politics.

They will see real politics if APC ever presents a SW candidate against a PDP candidate from the north.Thats when they will understand the lower Niger can also play sophisticated politics
Why combine 'SS/SE'?

PoliticsEdo Commissions First Solar-Powered Building by Unblockable(op): 5:02pm On Dec 18, 2014
The Edo State Government on Thursday commissioned the first energy-efficient building, entirely powered by solar energy, in Benin, the state capital.

Speaking shortly after the commissioning, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu, described the initiative as a laudable innovation which would reduce cost of power generation for both rural business persons and the country at large.

He, however, urged other corporate bodies in the power sector to cue into the idea for wider benefits, especially for low income earners at the grassroots.

Odubu said, “I want to commend your effort and to appreciate you greatly, particularly coming at a point when electricity supply is at the lowest ebb.

“I want to charge you to work on it to make sure people in our rural areas have access to electricity.

Earlier, the management of Havillahtrend Engineering Consult and Construction Limited, the firm responsible for the construction of the new facility explained that the entire building called Ehiorobo House, located in downtown Benin City, was powered by 16KVA solar panels capable of saving up to 90 per cent of electricity bills.

Speaking with journalists, the Chief Executive of the company, Dr. Robinson Ehiorobo, noted that being the first of its kind in the state, the building had a lighting load of only 150watts per floor as opposed to 1.6kw in standard designs.

Dr. Ehiorobo also expressed optimism that innovation would encourage local contractors and engineers in the quest to uplift the power sector.

As a CHRISTIAN I would have voted Goodluck instead of Buhari if only I was looking for one who will represent Christian organization.
I would have voted Goodluck if I wanted someone who will use Lokojo-Abuja road project awarded for the past 10years for campaign.

I would have voted Goodluck if I wanted a leader who will change the Yaradua's decision of dredging of River Niger in Lokoja.

I would have voted Goodluck if wanted a leader who will criticize the activities of Terrorists in Nigeria but never made any effort to put an end to terrorism.

I would have voted Goodluck if I wanted a leader who will accuse opposition as terrorist but scared to expose or deal with them.

I would have voted Goodluck if I wanted just a Ruler.

I would have voted Goodluck if I wanted a leader who will make life so difficult the poor but to keep the rich richer.

I would have voted Goodluck if I wished to have a President who will initiate cashless policy but still use huge cash to buy arms from SA.

I would have voted Goodluck if I wanted a leader who will not frown at corruption and corrupt people.

I would have voted Goodluck if I wanted a leader who believes in god-fathers’.

BUT

I have chosen Gen Buhari because I want a leader who wants to serve but not to rule.

I want a leader who will treat the poor like the rich.

A leader who can bring sanity back to Nigeria.

A leader who's integrity counts before any other thing on earth.

A leader who has served my country with no single corrupt charges.

A leader who made Nigerians proud by making 1 Naira equivalent to 2 USD.

I have finally concluded that I need good governance and a government who can put food on the table of the poorest of the poor.

I urge you all Nigerians not to vote Buhari if you are not tired of this situation in Nigeria.

Don't vote Buhari if you still believe in corruption.

Don't vote Buhari if you still believe that one day the rich will go poor for us to get rich just like that.

But if you are tired of this situation then do otherwise.

PoliticsBreaking News: IG Wrong Not To Recognise Tambuwal As Speaker – Poll by Unblockable(op): 8:55am On Dec 12, 2014
Nigerians have declared that the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Suleiman Abba, is wrong in his decision not to recognise the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, as the Speaker of the House, despite a subsisting court order.

This is the outcome of a poll on Punch Online, where respondents were asked to respond to a question: Is the IG in order for refusing to recognise Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal as the Speaker, House of Representatives, despite a subsisting court ruling that the status quo should be maintained in the House?

The poll, which started on November 27, ended on December 11, 2014.

During his appearance before a House Committee in Abuja three weeks ago, after security operatives invaded the National Assembly and tear-gassed most of the lawmakers, Abba referred to the Speaker as one Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal.

When the lawmakers called the IG’s attention to his refusal to recognise Tambuwal as the Speaker, the police chief argued that the case on the status of the Speaker was before the court, and making comments on it would be prejudicial.

The lawmakers had to dismiss the IG before the committee for his controversial comment as the House of Reps members accused Abba of arrogating to himself the power of the judiciary.

One thousand two hundred and thirty nine persons participated in the online poll, where respondents were asked to choose between ‘Yes’ and ‘No’.

Nine hundred and seventy six respondents, representing 79 per cent of the participants, said Abba was wrong to have refused to recognise Tambuwal as the Speaker, in view of the pronouncement of the court.

Conversely, 263 respondents, representing 21 per cent of the participants, supported the IG in his decision not to recognise Tambuwal as the House of Representatives Speaker despite the ruling of the court.

PoliticsFashola Canvasses Support For APC Candidate, Ambode by Unblockable(op): 1:22am On Dec 08, 2014

Governor Babatunde Fashola

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has urged Lagosians to vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Party, Mr. Akin Ambode, to sustain the programmes of his administration.

Fashola, who spoke at the Lagos Sea Food Festival 2014 on Saturday, said supporting the candidate of the APC would also ensure that the state continued to enjoy good governance and high performance.

The governor stated that the 2014 edition of the festival would be his last as governor of the state.

He said, “I urge you all to support the new APC governorship   candidate and make sure that the festival continues.

“You have a role to play; you have to register and you have to collect your Permanent Voter Cards and then you can use your vote to choose who you want.

“So, if you want this Sea Food Festival to be here next year; if you want Count Down to be here next year; if you want Beach Soccer to be here next year, the only way you can get them is to vote the government which is providing these activities in Lagos, the All Progressives Congress.”

Fashola said what his administration tried to do by instituting the festival was to bring the rural fishermen and women into the city once every year as the build-up to the end of year activities.

Other activities that would mark the end of the year, the governor said, included the Beach Soccer event, the Count Down and other Christmas festivities which would lead to the New Year.

He said, “This has not been without the support of the people of Lagos. This is what we do with your taxes, empowering people; ordinary working people ─ farmers ─ giving them a chance to earn a living so that we can equalise the distribution of wealth so that everybody can have an opportunity and be a part of this democracy.”

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Cardinal Odunmbaku, has congratulated Ambode over his victory at the gubernatorial primaries of the party.

Odunmbaku said in a statement on Sunday that Ambode worked hard for his victory, urging APC members and all Lagosians to give him overwhelming support by voting him into power.

The statement read, “I congratulate Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for his victory at the primaries. It is important for other aspirants who contested against him to accept that in every contest, there will always be a winner.

“Our focus now should be how the party will become successful at the polls.”

PoliticsNigeria Police To Restore Speaker Tambuwal's Security by Unblockable(op): 1:31pm On Dec 05, 2014
Police authorities are set to reinstate the security details of the Speaker of the House of Representatives,  Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, weeks after it was withdrawn in the wake of his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A source at the Nigeria police headquarters in Abuja indicate that the police will hinge its decision on the emergence of Tambuwal as the governorship candidate for the APC in the forthcoming general election.

Tambuwal defeated four other contestants to emerge Sokoto APC governorship flagbearer yesterday and will now slug it out with candidates from other political parties next February during Nigeria's elections.

"We still believe the Speaker is not entitled to security based on his decision to defect. The constitution is very clear on that, and we are defending our position well in court.

"However, since Tambuwal is now a candidate of a major political party in Sokoto,  convention requires that the Police protects him. The Federal Government takes the security of leading candidates very seriously as such we will restore security to Tambuwal and at the same time provide same for all the leading candidates in all states of the Federation.

"If the Police feels at any given time that the security of candidates is under threat,  we are bound by law to come in and provide security. If you recall really well, the governorship candidate of the then ruling ANPP was murdered in Borno very close to the election,  since then we reviewed our internal security arrangements and decided to notch security around candidates a bit high," the source stated.

When asked if the same number of men earlier withdrawn from Tambuwal will be restored,  the source declined to answer,  saying only that the police high command will determine such a decision.

Reports indicate that the Federal Government has directed all security agencies to ensure zero casualties especially of candidates for the forthcoming elections. The directive is said to be boosted by recent success of the government troops in their fight against the insurgency in the North-Eastern part of the country.

Speaker Tambuwal's office could not be reached for comments.
