Meanwhile, I wouldn't say anything concerning this because no normal human being should be rejoicing over the failure of our Military, be you PDP or APC. But I'm surprised that most of us here on Nairaland are always quick to open threads immediately we see it on BBC or CNN that the NA is losing the fight against this deadly set. Why on earth would a normal human being be celebrating the seizure of Bama by Boko Haram?! We know the President ain't trying, but that doesn't mean we should be celebrating evil. Some people were rejoicing when BBC tweeted that Bama has been seized by Boko Haram, when we. Should all say NO. The army vowed to defend the country in times of trouble, good and fine. But, we should all know they are human being. GEJ has bastardized them to the extent that people now ridicule them. How can over 60 military men be deployed to Osun alone for election just to intimidate opposition leaders when Sambisa needs them more?! Anyways sha, I still say Kudos to the Nigerian Army [not cowards]! |

President Goodluck Jonathan has again taken a swipe at former President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying the ex-President left Nigeria in darkness after his tenure.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said this during an interview onSahara TVon Saturday.
During the interview, Abati responded to questions on the several issues involving the Presidency, and tongue-lashed the opposition for attacking the President on almost all issues.
On the proposed national conference, which was scheduled to hold this year, Abati praised the President, saying it would be better than the political reform conference that was organised by Obasanjo.
He said, “The last political reform conference, organised by Obasanjo failed. It ended up the discussion of tenure elongation and third term ambition.”
Abati faulted those who have questioned why Jonathan’s government scheduled the national conference to be held the same year the country is marking 100 years of amalgamation.
He said the celebration of Nigeria at 100 is not about the Jonathan administration, but a celebration by the private sector, the state and local government and all Nigerians.
On the power sector, Abati said power supply has become better in the country than it was in 2007 and 2010.
He also criticised those who have questioned Presidency’s budgetary allocation saying, “Everyone is involved in the budget- making process. Both the intelligent and the unintelligent. Evenokadadrivers have become budget analysts.
“Nigerians are concerned about corruption. [President Jonathan] too is concerned about corruption.”
Abati also accused the media of bias for the opposition.
“The media as we have it in Nigeria today is heavily in the hands of the opposition. Whatever the President says, they twist it,” he said.
He also praised Jonathan as the only president that has given Nigerians a road map.
“What he (Pres. Jonathan) has been able to do is historic. We have never had a president in Nigeria that presented Nigeria with a road map,” he said.
Obasanjo, however, said he would not join issues with the President and his aides. He said Jonathan is building on the foundations he laid while he was the President.
The ex-president, who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Mr. Victor Durodola, said he had said his mind in his letter to Jonathan and the President should accept his challenge in good faith.
Durodola said, “He (Obasanjo) doesn’t want to join issues with anybody anymore after that reply (President Goodluck Jonathan’s reply to the ex-president’s controversial letter); he really doesn’t want to.
“I would have told you that everybody knows that whatever it is that they are commissioning today, the foundation was laid when Obasanjo was President; everybody knows that. Most of the equipment came even before he left.
“But, as I said, he really does not want to (join issues with the presidency) at all. In one paragraph in his (Obasanjo’s) letter, he said he had done his duties to him (Jonathan) as a former president, as a former Board of Trustees Chairman (of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party) and as a citizen of Nigeria.
“It is left for him (Jonathan) to accept the challenge and do what is right.” SOURCE: http://www.punchng.com/news/jonathan-performing-better-than-obasanjo-presidency/ |
Politics › Woman Collapses, Dies While Testifying In Church In Owerri by Unblockable(op): 10:42am On Jan 03, 2014 |
By CHIDI NKWOPARA OWERRI — Tragedy struck in Umuogwuta, Ndegwu, Owerri West local council area of Imo State, as a lady who was giving her testimony during the New Year service suddenly collapsed and died.
A villager, who spoke to Vanguard on ground of anonymity, said: “The Lagos-based lady, Ifeoma Anozie, collapsed and died while giving her testimony inside Saint John’s Anglican Church, Ndegwu.”
Vanguard also gathered that Ifeoma returned to her country home not to only give testimony about her achievements in the passing year, but also felicitate with her kith and kin.
“The lady had hardly commenced her testimony when she suddenly slumped and died in front of the officiating cleric and left the congregation completely perplexed,” the villager said.
Speaking also on the issue, a woman who simply identified herself as Felicia, lamented that what ordinarily should have been a double celebration for the Anozie family suddenly turned sour.
“The church service was designed to be a double celebration for the Anozie family. It, however, turned out to be a tragedy for the family, the church and Ndegwu community,” Felicia lamented.
Other villagers that also spoke to Vanguard, said ifeoma was a very promising young lady but none could guess she would die untimely.
Although Vanguard could not ascertain the cause of death at press time, as no member of the immediate family could be reached for comments.
However, the remains of the lady had been deposited in an undisclosed hospital morgue. SOURCE: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/01/woman-collapses-dies-testifying-church/ |

Another batch of 2,300 chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State.
This is just a day after the ruling party lost about 1,200 members from the vice president’s council area to the APC.
The 2,300 PDP members who defected are from Kaduna South local government, a local government located in the heart of the state capital.
It was gathered that among the defectors are five serving and eight former councillors in the council.
Receiving the defectors at the APC state secretarial, APC’s interim chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba Ahmed, said the party will never get tired of receiving defectors from PDP in the state.
According to him, the 2015 election will be contested strongly among two parties, the PDP and the APC.
“We will never get tired of receiving PDP defectors to our party in as much as they are not tired of defecting. This shows that the 2015 election will be contested by two parties. That is the party that wants to bring development to the country,” he said.
Dr Hakeem further blasted the Vice president of the country Namadi Sambo and the state governor Muktar Ramalan Yero saying their positions have not in anyway benefited the people of the state.
“ We have the Vice President and Governor but nothing is happening in Kaduna state despite the loan being collected for the state. We don’t even know what they are using the loan for because they have nothing show in the state,” he said.
Leader of the PDP defectors in the state and former Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Audi Yaro Makama said as long as APC leadership are not tired of receiving defectors they will not be tired of bring more PDP members to join the opposition in the state.
He said they have long been in the ruling party without the party benefiting the state and country in general as he promised that come 2015 PDP will be no more in the state.
“ We want our children to be proud of us some day and we cannot remain in a party that has failed to deliver the dividends of democracy to its citizens. Those who think we cannot deliver they should wait and see during the 2015 election if PDP will make it,” he said.
Former Kaduna South Chairman, Alhaji Auwal Tafoki who was among the defectors told the gathering that more PDP members will soon join the opposition party as he thanked the leadership of APC for a warm reception accorded to the defectors. SOURCE |
Crime › Nigerian Lady Excretes Hard Drugs Aboard Plane From Malaysia by Unblockable(op): 1:54pm On Dec 31, 2013 |
https://www.osundefender.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/stupid_drug_smugglers.jpg
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, had announced on Monday that a Nigerian lady identified as Chizoba Anya excreted wraps of substance that tested positive for methamphetamine in a Qatar Airline Flight while on her way from Malaysia to Nigeria.
Officials of the NDLEA disclosed that Chizoba’s frequent visit to the toilet attracted security men in the plane who monitored her keenly.
“On arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos, three wraps of methamphetamine were found in her possession,” said Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA spokesperson. NDLEA Commander at the Lagos Airport, Mr. Hamza Umar, said that the 32- years old suspect, who was put under observation excreted two more wraps of the substance upon arrival.
“The suspect was found with three wraps which she excreted in the aircraft. While she was under observation at the Lagos airport, she excreted two additional wraps of drugs. The five wraps which tested positive for methamphetamine weighed 80 grammes,” Umar said.
Detailed investigation showed that the suspect took off from Ghana where she ingested the drugs before heading for Malaysia.
“In Malaysia, she was denied entry and made to board another flight back to Nigeria. She started excreting the drugs at the airport in Malaysia,” NDLEA said.
The Agency said the suspect admitted to the crime, disclosing that she was offered N500,000 to smuggle the drugs to Malaysia.
“I was promised the sum of half a million naira but my problem started when I had immigration problem in Malaysia. I was denied entry and made to return to Nigeria after two days. While in the aircraft, I excreted three wraps and two other wraps in the NDLEA office,” Vivian stated.
Vivian, an indigene of Onitsha, claimed that she just completed her Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business Administration at the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State.
“I just completed my HND programme and I am from a very poor family. I wanted to use the money they promised me to assist my siblings by smuggling the drug to Malaysia,” she added. SOURCE |

Crime › Commercial Bus Driver Molests Passenger At Gun Point In Enugu by Unblockable(op): 1:07am On Dec 18, 2013 |
A commercial bus driver, identified as Emeka Ugwudiobi has been accused of raping one of his passengers from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. at gun point in an uncompleted building around Mayor Market, Enugu.
According to the prosecution counsel, Mr Francis Ajagu, the driver plies the New Market-Gariki route and the victim was one of his passengers.
On that fateful day, the driver noticed only the victim was remaining in the bus and drove to an uncompleted building beside the Mayor Market and started raping the victim.
Ajagu said the victim was raped from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. without break and that the pleas of the victim to allow her rest fell on deaf ears. The victim was rescued by one Mr Chidubem Ezeorah, a passerby who ran into the scene and reported the case to the police.
He said that the victim could hardly stand on her feet when the police came to her rescue in the uncompleted building.
However, Mr Obeta Peter, the counsel to the accused, who described the accused as a responsible man with a wife and four children said Emeka had been driving for the past 16 years and that nobody had ever complained that he was a rapist.
He denied that his client had ever set eyes on the victim before, adding that there was no way a bus driver would carry a gun inside his bus and the police would not notice.
Justice Dorathy Agishi ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody while adjourning the case to Feb. 26, 2014 for further hearing. SOURCE |
Politics › 2015: APC Picks Tambuwal As Presidential Candidate – EXCLUSIVE OsunDefender Lies by Unblockable(op): 4:43pm On Dec 16, 2013 |
https://www.osundefender.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/2015-election.jpg Though the speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal denied attending any meeting with members of the All Progressive Union, DAILYTIMES has authoritatively gathered he was invited to be wooed for presidency in 2015.
Our correspondent authoritatively gathered that Tambuwal had been invited to the meeting but through one of the defecting governors.
A source at the meeting revealed that because he was not confident enough to attend the meeting, APC decided to communicate to him through his (Sokoto) state governor, Aliyu Wamakko.
Those who attended Monday’s meeting included two leaders of the APC: former Head of state and 2011 Presidential candidate of Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Muhammadu Buhari, and former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu. Others are Governors Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti; Babatunde Fashola of Lagos; Bola Ajimobi of Oyo, Musa Kwakwanso of Kano; Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers; Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun; Murtala Nyako of Adamawa and Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto.
This is just in-line with a statement released by the spokesperson of the speaker, Imam Imam, which claimed that Tambuwal went to see the Sokoto governor.
“The speaker went to see his governor who sought to see him and he went there before the meeting commenced and it did not commence before he left the lodge,” he said.
In our investigation, it was gathered that APC governors have decided to find all means to flag Tambuwal as the party’s presidential candidate in 2015.
The source said, “This is a big drama in the political of this country. Whether they want it or not, we have massively suggested that Tambuwal is the best person for our presidential candidate and we will ensure it happens by all means. We brought him to a venue where we are all present so that he would know that we are serious.
“We have invited him for a meeting and sent his state governor to him.
So, he is aware of our intention to get him into the party. He is a neutral person who still maintains high sense of integrity among Nigerians so if we use him, we can easily achieve our goal of bring the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.”
However, attempt to speak with Tambuwal proved abortive. A close source to the speaker told our correspondent that Tambuwal was aware of APC’s moves to have him with them.
He said, “Though the speaker is not also happy with what is happening in PDP, he has not declared his intention. But it is not impossible for him to join APC if he is offered to contest for president in 2015.”
However, it should be recalled that Tambuwal has recently attended some events organised by APC governors and members. Part of which is the launching of ‘Opon Imo’ (Tablet of knowledge) in Osun State.
For the first time, Tambuwal, a PDP member, also sent one Femi Gbajabiamila, an APC member to represent him at a leadership summit organised for Ambasador Kolade. SOURCE |
