FORTUNE, aged 20, has narrated to policemen how her father started having sex with her when she was 13 years old, and that he would demand sex before paying her school fees.

Her father, the Presiding Pastor of Mount Zion Light House Full Gospel Church, Obio Imo Lane, Uyo, Apostle Williams Okon Bassey, has been arrested by operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Odiko MacDon, who revealed that six others, including another pastor, were arrested for alleged incest and defilement, told newsmen that Fortune said she got pregnant thrice.

He added: “The victim stated that her father started having sexual intercourse with her at the age of 13. The continuous sexual assault led her to become pregnant on three different occasions and the pregnancies were aborted by her mother.

“She further revealed that the first time her father defiled her was in the church vestry. He threatened to place a curse on her if she dares tell anyone about his escapades. He also demands sex before paying her school fees or catering for her needs.”

The Police Command’s Spokesperson added that “on October 31, one Anwanga Essien Udo of 7, Itiam Street, Uyo, aged 33, a Pastor with Restoration Bible Church, was arrested for having unlawful carnal knowledge of his 10-year-old step-daughter(name withheld).

“When she was left alone with him, rather than be a father to her, he opted to turn her to a sex-machine.”

The police spokesman warned perpetrators of such act to desist forthwith or be willing to contend with the full wrath of the law.

He, therefore, urged parents to also make haste in reporting every form of sexual harassment when noticed to the police or other Security Agencies in the state timely, as concealment of these crimes has only led to an increase in violations.

He commended the partnership of FEYREP, the pet project of the wife of the state governor as well as the good people of the state for their continued trust, encouragement and timely information.

Officials of INEC on election duty have on Saturday, November 16, 2019, been abducted in Bumodi-Bgbene community in Ekpetiama clan of Yenagoa Local Government Area.

According to an eye witness, the officials were rounded up by some irate youths suspected to be thugs and taken to a building within where they were locked up and held incommunicado. In Angiama community of Southern Ijaw, election materials meant for the area were intercepted and hijacked by suspected thugs.

According to one of the officials who is also an NYSC member (names withheld) who managed to escape from the scene, said one of the police personnel, a woman was pushed into a creek but is alive, while three officials whereabouts are unknown.

An Iraqi protester has been filmed with a lion on a chain, during an anti-government demonstration.

The giant cat is seen wearing a collar and what appears to be an Iraqi flag over its back in the bizarre clip which was likely filmed during recent clashes in the capital Bagdad.

Some commenters say they believe the lion was deployed to ward off police dogs used by security forces to keep demonstrations in check.

At one point the lion takes a swipe at a small group of men and then is seen resting by the road as the handler, dressed in a red t-shirt and black jeans, sits down beside him.

Violent protests have erupted in Baghdad since early October driven by discontent over economic hardship and corruption.

Around 320 people have died so far as demonstrators have clashed with security forces.

Iraqi security forces killed at least four people on Thursday and wounded more than 50 as they tried to push protesters further back to their main camp in central Baghdad, police and medical sources said.

On Thursday morning, three protesters died after tear gas canisters directly struck them in the head and another died in hospital from wounds from a stun bomb fired by security forces, the sources said.

Security forces increased use of tear gas, rubber bullets and live fire came after two days of relative calm.

Demonstrations were also taking place in several locations in southern Iraq. Protesters on late Wednesday set fire to local officials' houses in the town of Gharraf, 25 km (15 miles) north of the southern city of Nassiriya, security sources said.

Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi's government has taken some measures to try to quell the unrest, including handouts to the poor and creating more job opportunities for college graduates.

The Student Union Government of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), formerly called Anambra State University, have called out a bank on campus for their lack of consideration for their customers who are students.

The criticism from the SUG came after students were pictured sitting on the floor of a bank on campus because there were no chairs in the bank hall for customers.

Students of the school claim in the comments that the poor customer services is because they are students and the banks believe they have fewer options.

The COOU SUG, in their Facebook post, demanded better services for their students who visit the banks on campus.

A 13-year-old boy, Ovey Friday, whose hands were allegedly burnt by an herbalist on the prompting of his stepmother in Nasarawa State, has narrated how he ended up in hospital.

Speaking in an interview with Northern City News on his hospital bed at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, on Thursday, the victim said his troubles began when his stepmother, Mrs Mercy Jummai, 35, who is heavily pregnant, accused him of being a wizard.

According to him, Mercy, whom he lives with in the Wulko community in the Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of the state, raised the alarm that he made love to her in her dream.

He said, “My stepmother said she was always seeing me making love to her in her dream, but I told her that it was not true.

“So, she started threatening me, saying that I would not stay in the same house with her. That was when she said she would take me to a native doctor’s house.

“The native doctor, who is a Fulani man, picked a stone and threw it at me. After that, he rubbed the stone on me and tied my two hands with a rope.

“Then, he brought charcoals out of the fire and poured it on me and tied my hands, asking me to confess that I was a wizard and a member of a secret society. But I told him that I was innocent of what he was accusing me of.

“He brought out powdered pepper and poured it into the fire while the smoke smeared all over my face, with my hands burning.

“After that, he fetched charcoals from fire (he did this three times), that was when I began to pray to God. When he saw that I was praying, he came back and untied the rope from my hands, but my wrists, palms and fingers were already badly burnt.

“They brought me home and the next day, I woke up to see that both my hands had swollen. It was at that time that they took me to hospital for treatment.”

Ovey, who is fondly called ‘Small Man’ by members of the Wulko community, said, “I have forgiven my tormentors.”

Residents of the community described the teenager as an assuming boy, who is a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church choir and a class captain at the Government Junior Secondary School in the community.

When our correspondent visited the Wulko Police Outpost, the officer in-charge, Danjuma Bujujin, said the police were working to ensure that those behind the crime against the boy were brought to justice.

It was gathered that the case file had been transferred to the Nasarawa-Eggon Divisional Police headquarters for further investigation.

It was learnt that the suspects were initially detained for one night.

Speaking on the issue, the paramount ruler of the area and Sarkin Garin Wulko, Joseph Envuladu, expressed displeasure over the incident, which he said was uncommon in the community.

He stressed the need for the police to diligently investigate the matter and bring all the culprits to book.

Our correspondent was informed that the damage done to the victim had led to the permanent loss of the use of three fingers on one of his hands.

Medical personnel at the hospital, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media, expressed fears that if further treatment was not commenced immediately, the hospital might be forced to amputate Ovey’s hands.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Bola Longe, confirmed the incident.

He told our correspondent that investigation into the case was ongoing and promised to ensure that the case would be charged as soon as investigations were completed, adding that the command was determined to ensure that the case served as a deterrent to others.
