This month of August, Nollywood goddesses Dakore Egbuson-Akande and Adesua Etomi-Wellington are the cover stars for Accelerate TV’s The Cover magazine. They shared their journey through Nollywood, most outrageous on-set experiences and unique roles in the new movie, The Set Up. On her acting journey, Dakore said: “I didn’t realize I could act. I knew I was dramatic, extra sometimes, loved music but I never really thought about myself as an actor (as she prefers to be addressed) I just stumbled into it and I did it with a 100%.” Adesua said she knew she wanted to go into acting from when she was 7 years old. “I didn’t tell my parents I wanted to act until I was 19 or 20 and I remember having the conversation with my mum and she said; if this is what you want to do, then go for it,” she said. At first glance, it seems like a story straight from a Bollywood potboiler. Payal, a constable from Uttar Pradesh, first met Rahul Tharasana (30), a gangster, at a court in Greater Noida where his case was being heard. Rahul was accused of murdering a trader named Manmohan Goyal and had been arrested on May 9, 2014. He is also accused in over a dozen cases of loot and murder. Payal met Rahul at the Surajpur court where she was posted and immediately fell in love with him. She remained in touch with Rahul even as he continued to be in and out of jail. Their love story flourished over the years and recently Rahul shared photographs of his marriage with Payal on the social media. The time and location of the wedding has not been disclosed by the couple. On the other hand, Payal’s senior officers are clueless about the wedding. Payal was posted at the Gautam Buddha Nagar police station. “We are verifying where this woman is posted right now. Action is likely against her,” said SP (rural) Ranvijay Singh. The wedding, apparently, has caused considerable embarrassment to the state police force. According to reports, Rahul is part of the Anil Dujana gang and began his criminal activities in 2008. He has been in and out of jail and had even surrendered in July 2017 in a case of illegal possession of arms. He was jailed subsequently. An Ado Ekiti High Court has sentenced a man, Mr. Efe Efi to 10 years imprisonment for unlawful possession of firearm. In her judgment on Wednesday, Justice Abiodun Adesodun found the accused person guilty of illegal possession of firearm, but was freed of other two charges owing to lack of evidence against the accused person. Justice Adesodun said: “A case of unlawful possession of firearm had been proved beyond reasonable doubt. The prosecution was able to establish the elements needed to link the accused person with the crime and he is accordingly sentenced to ten years imprisonment but the offender being a first offender is given a sum of N20,000 as option of fine”. On the attempted murder and robbery charges, she said: “ingredients of attempted murder and robbery could not be substantiated against the accused person; you are accordingly discharged and acquitted”. In the case with registration number HAD/10c/2018, the Department of Public Prosecution accused and charged Efi for attempted murder and robbery after he was arrested at Moferere area of Ado Ekiti on October 27, 2016. During the trial, the prosecution counsel, Mr. L.E. Ojo from the DPP office called a witness while the counsel to the defendant, Barr. owoseeni Ajayi called no witness. Ojo also tendered the statement of the accused person as exhibit. “The convict made spirited attempt to rob a man, Adewumi Osasona, an Okada Rider and student of Ekiti State University, who conveyed him from Ijigbo to Moferere of his motorcycle and was arrested by residents after other accomplice, who shot the victim had fled. “When the accused person was said to have got to Moferere, he tied a rope on the plaintiff while a man who emerged from a nearby bush had pointed a pistol at the Motorcyclist and asked him to surrender the motorbike. “After shooting into the air, the Okada man was said to have resisted while the second person, who was not available for prosecution had shot the victim and this propped him to raise alarm before residents trooped out to arrest the convicted person while the other accomplice fled the scene,” he told the court. It has been revealed that an American basketball player was handed a two-year suspension by The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in 2018 after a drug test concluded that he was pregnant. According to a new report from Eurohoops, Donell ‘D.J’ Cooper's two-year-long suspension came after a drug test administered by the governing body revealed that he was pregnant. At that time, Cooper was looking to join the Bosnian national team before he tested positive for human chorionic gonadotropin. The urine for the test came from Cooper's pregnant girlfriend, who was likely unaware she was pregnant. The suspension means that Cooper who had been playing in Europe since missing out on the NBA draft, is ineligible to play internationally until June of 2020.
