Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Saturday, abducted a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Chief Chika Onyemenam in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

A member of the lawyer’s firm Chike Onyemenam and Associates, confirmed that his family are in communication with him and his abductors.

The Asaba chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, urging security agencies to quickly intervene and rescue its abducted member.

“The Nigerian Bar Association, Asaba Branch is deeply saddened by the abduction of CHIKE ONYEMENAM, SA,N on Saturday 14th September, 2019" the statement reads.

“This is one case too many. The Branch condemns in its entirety kidnap of its member and calls on all the security agencies to immediately swing into action to ensure his safe and early rescue or release from the hands of his lawless and evil abductors.

“We call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to rejig and restructure the nation’s security architecture and infrastructure to ensure its effectiveness in addressing the activities of criminals in our society.

“This ugly trend of incessant abduction of persons, especially Legal Practitioners must stop and these heartless criminals brought to justice. And if they cannot be brought to justice, justice should be brought to them.

“We cannot continue this way or allow this ugly state of affairs to continue unabated.
“We therefore also call on the Governor of Delta State, Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Police, Delta State to immediately rise up to the occasion and do all within their means to ensure the safety of lives and properties in Asaba in particular and Delta State in general.

“We pray God for the safe and early release of our revered Bar leader from the hands of his abductors. God save us all.”

A member of the lawyer’s firm confirmed that: His Family are in communication with him and his abductors and would appreciate if we all would let them take the lead and manage this issue.”

Igbere TV reports that the Police are yet to make any statement over the abduction.

Ajayi Samuel aka Preacher, a final year Accounting student of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos, an affiliate of University of Benin, has been shot dead by suspected rival cultists.

Some cultists had stormed the school during the final students signing out yesterday and shot sporadically in the air before leaving.

However, today, they returned and trailed Samuel – said to be an only child – to a canteen where he had gone to eat. While stepping out of the canteen, they shot him in the neck, killing him instantly.

Immediately the news of his death got home, his dad and mom rushed to the scene crying. His body has since been evacuated by the police.

A 14-year-old Senior Secondary School 1 of Kess College, in the Ekredjebor area of Ughelli headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, on Wednesday, committed suicide over a failed relationship with her boyfriend.

Correspondent reliably gathered that deceased simply identified as Favour, was home alone when she carried out the act and was said to have left a suicide note at the scene of the incident stating reasons for her action.

Her lifeless body was discovered by one of her friends who had visited her to assist her (friend) in making her hair.

Giving details of the incident, a source in the area disclosed that the victim, who is an only child of her parents, had hung herself on a ceiling fan in their residential apartment.

The source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “It was one of her friends that raised an alarm when she saw her dangling body hanging on a ceiling fan.

“When people came into the house, they also saw a note she had written stating that she decided to take her life owing to a failed relationship with another male student from the same school she attends.”

Though several efforts to speak with the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya was fruitless as at press time, a police source at the Ughelli ‘B’ Division police station confirmed the incident when contacted.
