FoodSimple Breakfast Ideas Using Bread by Uranus1(op): 2:10am On Jul 17, 2018
Contrary to popular opinion , skipping breakfast does not result in weight loss, Instead, it leads to weight gain.
People who skip breakfast tend to overeat at subsequent meals, consuming the majority of calories during the most sedentary hours of the day.
To avoid skipping meals , here are four quick and easy breakfast ideas you can make with bread slices :

Toasted sandwich
For this meal , you need butter , four slices of bread , two eggs or corned beef and a sandwich maker. To make toasted sandwiches, spread butter over one side of the bread slice to prevent it from sticking to the sandwich maker. Place two slices buttered- side -down in the machine . Add a chunk of whisked eggs or corned beef , then add another slice of bread buttered -side - up on top of each and toast.

Bread and scrambled eggs
For this , you need a frying pan, oil for frying , two eggs, salt, seasoning and pepper. To make scrambled eggs, season and then beat the eggs in a bowl. Heat oil in a pan and pour the eggs to fry for a few minutes , stirring as it thickens. Enjoy with a fresh loaf of bread.

Club Sandwiches
To make club sandwiches, you need four slices of bread , two sardines, one fresh plum tomato, a medium carrot, ¼ small cabbage and two tablespoons of mayonnaise or butter. In a bowl , mash up sardines with mayo or butter. Slice the vegetables and add to the bowl of mashed sardines. Stir thoroughly. Spread your sardine- vegetable filling on your bread and enjoy.

French toast
To make French toast , you need four slices of bread , honey and two eggs. Beat the eggs lightly and season to your taste. Soak the slices of bread in the eggs and fry lightly. Drizzle with honey and enjoy.

HealthWhat To Know About Ovarian Cancer by Uranus1(op): 1:54am On Jul 17, 2018
National Ovarian Cancer Coalition defines ovarian cancer as a disease in which , depending on the type and stage of the disease, malignant ( cancerous ) cells are found inside , near, or on the outer layer of the ovaries .
In a study carried out by the SGMC Cancer Centre , Ovarian cancer was reported as the second commonest ( 30 .5 %) with a higher proportion compared to other gynaecological cancers in Nigeria.

What causes ovarian cancer?
The exact cause of ovarian cancer is unknown. The risk of developing cancer depends on many things including age, genetics , lifestyle and environmental factors .

What are the signs and symptoms?
Ovarian cancer may not cause any specific symptoms , particularly in its early stages . When it does cause symptoms , these may be non- specific and vague .
Symptoms are abdominal enlargement or swelling, abdominal fullness, early satiety ( feeling full early ) , changes in bowel or bladder habits , or clothes not fitting well.
Other signs and symptoms can include shortness of breath , leg swelling and pain in the abdomen or pelvis , menstrual irregularities , painful intercourse . Fatigue may be present, but it is considered another non- specific symptom .

Is there any age bracket for ovarian cancer and what are the stages of the disease ?
The median age of diagnosis is 63 . However , approximately 25 % of cases are diagnosed between ages 35 and 54.
Stages of ovarian cancer are Stage 1, which is limited to both ovaries . Stage 2 is limited to the pelvis.
In Stage 3 , the disease is outside of the pelvis, but limited to the abdomen , or lymph node involvement , but not including the inside of the liver.
While in Stage 4, the disease is spread to the liver or outside of the abdomen .

What is the difference between ovarian cancer and ovarian cyst ?
Ovarian cancer is when abnormal cells in the ovary begin to multiply out of control and form a tumor.
If left untreated , the tumor can spread to other parts of the body , while an ovarian cyst is a collection of fluid or air that develops in or around the ovary.
Most ovarian cysts form as a normal part of ovulation , which is when the ovary releases an egg .
They usually only cause mild symptoms, like bloating , and go away without treatment .

Is it curable and can it come back after it is treated ?
In some women with ovarian cancer, treatment may remove or destroy the cancer.
Unfortunately, about 70 percent of all ovarian cancer patients are found at a very advanced stage , stage 3 or 4 and the majority of those , about 80 percent will recur .
So ovarian cancer recurrence is something that most women with ovarian cancer will have to deal with .

Is it hereditary?
Having a family history of ovarian cancer doesn ’t mean that a woman must develop the disease .
The cancer could have happened by chance . But women with a mother or sister diagnosed with ovarian cancer have around three times the risk of ovarian cancer compared to women without a family history.

How can ovarian cancer be prevented and what measures should be taken to minimise the risk of the disease ?
Taking oral birth control pills . Research has shown that women who take birth control pills have lower odds of developing ovarian cancer .
Breastfeeding reduces the risk as well . Pregnancy – increased risk seen in women who delay pregnancy.
Also, surgical procedures on a woman’s reproductive organs ( like a tubal ligation or hysterectomy ) reduces the risks of such a woman developing ovarian cancer .

What lifestyle changes should women make to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer?
Maintaining a healthy weight , as obesity is a risk factor for ovarian cancer.
Eating a low -fat diet . Pregnancy and breastfeeding are linked to a lower risk of ovarian cancer.
This comes back to how many times a woman ovulates in her lifetime.
Having a hysterectomy or getting the tubes tied .
Removing the ovaries and fallopian tubes reduces chances of developing ovarian cancer.

Nairaland GeneralFalse Myths You Have About Extroverts by Uranus1(op): 1:51am On Jul 15, 2018
If you know extroverts, you will agree with me that there are some views that come to mind. While many term extroverts as extremely outgoing, there are still some thoughts that are myths about extroverts.

They have 100% confidence. You will agree with me that extroverts look and sound so sure of themselves but the fact they are free with people does not mean they do not experience self-doubts that plague people too. Sometimes, they have just perfected the art of completely masking it with their carefree nature.

They cannot thrive in a quiet environment. Well, I have friends that are extroverts and still crave for the calmness that the quiet brings. As much as they enjoy the company of others, they also need quality time to get in touch with their inner selves.

They suck at listening. While you may conclude that extroverts talk a lot, they do not all suck at listening. I have had extroverts as friends who were there and offered me a shoulder to cry, she literally did the job of a seasoned therapist and I felt a lot better after talking to her.

They are always desperate to get noticed. The fact that they are free with people means that people may notice them faster than they would others. You need to understand that it is just the way they are wired and sometimes, they do not do what they do with the main aim of hurting you.

TV/MoviesUnforgettable ‘skyscraper’ Hits Cinemas by Uranus1(op): 1:40am On Jul 15, 2018
People do insane things in movies all the time , and most times we think of daring acts in movies, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson comes to mind .
In Skyscraper , a movie released today , terrorists purposely set a 240 -story building on fire in order to get at a flash drive locked away in the billionaire’ s penthouse on top . That seems like an awful lot of trouble for a heist , and yet , it’s nothing compared to the extravagant lengths Dwayne Johnson ’s character, Will Sawyer, will go.
The Rock plays a security expert trying to rescue his family from the world’ s tallest building after it’s been set on fire by terrorists. As the building burns , Johnson battles terrorists hundreds of stories in the air using only several meters of duct tape and his melon -like biceps. Not so much a story as The Rock’s upper body workout with explosions in the background , the movie pitches him into increasingly ridiculous situations, most of which involve dangling from great heights.
Playing his army surgeon wife, Neve Campbell is also a pleasingly proactive presence , holding her own in combat and conflagration.
Among other summer blockbusters like Ant -Man and the Wasp , Solo and
Deadpool 2 , Skyscraper is that rare beast : not a sequel, spin- off or aftermath entry . However , it is the greatest skyscraper -related underdog story .
Skyscraper has a solid foundation in Johnson , who again proves to the world how reliably entertaining he is. Cleverly , Johnson ’s all - action hero has a bit of vulnerability thanks to his heart - warming dedication to his family. His artificial leg becomes one of his most important tools in the race to save his family.

CultureWould You Leave Your Wealth To Your Kinsmen Because Custom Demands? by Uranus1(op): 1:24am On Jul 15, 2018
There are so many amazing cultures practised in the world . Some cultures are perceived as extreme or outrageous while others are inconceivable.
Abiriba is a beautiful village found in the eastern part of Nigeria . This village is very rich with traditions like the Igba Nnunnu , Izaru Efa , Igwa Mang , Ime Uche , Ekembu and so on.
These traditions have been in existence for a very long time . The
Ikwunne system is particularly controversial and has threatened the peace and future of most families in Abiriba.

The Ikwunne system posits that children belong to the mother . This means that the conventional family dynamics of children belonging to the family of the man is not practised here.
Men who are married to Abiriba women have their children trained by their wives or her family.
The children do not have a right to take part in important decisions in their fathers family.
When the man passes to the great beyond every property he owns belong to his Ikwu and not his wife and children.
But these principles do not apply to men who marry women that are not Abiriba natives .
Because of this parents clamour for their daughters to marry Abiriba men. In fact, it was mandatory for daughters especially the first daughter to marry an Abriba man . It was a scandal almost a taboo if she brings a non- native [ onye mba] . This is still an issue in some families today .
While parents are wishing and aspiring for Abiriba sons - in- law , most eligible men were marrying non- native women. Abiriba girls were in a dilemma - no Abiriba suitors . They were rejecting promising non -natives since their parents were not granting their consent and blessings .
Abiriba women were left with nothing when their husbands die . The man ’s Ikwu takes everything including his clothes . The woman is asked to leave the house . This treatment is sometimes meted out to a non - native woman if she does not have a son or if her daughters are married to non -natives [ onye mba] .
Question is , how many men will leave their families with nothing because custom demands ?

Nairaland GeneralFocus Less On Agitation For Salary Increase, Hos Tells NLC, Others by Uranus1(op): 2:17am On Jul 13, 2018
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, has called on labour unions in the civil service to focus less on agitation for a salary increase.

She said they should rather be more concerned about how to improve the service.

The Director, Media and Public Relations, Office of the HOCSF, Olawunmi Ogunmosunle, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday.

Ogunmosule quoted Oyo-Ita as speaking during a recent study tour embarked by the HOCSF, Heads of Service from states across the country as well as federal and states Permanent Secretaries.

The top government officials had visited some establishments in Singapore.

“The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation who expressed admiration for the performance ranking system of Singapore appealed to the various unions in the public /civil service to focus less on agitation for a salary increase but rather be more definitive and proactive on how to improve the service,” the statement read.

Oyo-Ita affirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to transforming the civil service.

This, she said, would be achieved through the introduction and implementation of innovative ideas that would move the service forward in line with global trend.

She said that was the only way the service could be dynamic to meet up with the challenges of the 21st Century.

Oyo-Ita said parts of the measures being put in place by the government to reposition the civil service included the creation of work improvement units in ministries.

“The units created in ministries will comprise groups of civil servants from the bottom–up who will be allowed self-expression on how to improve their work operations,” she said.

She assured all the stakeholders that civil servants would be given the enabling environment to develop innovative ideas that would transform the service to meet with global trends.

She noted that the success stories of the public/civil service of Malaysia and Singapore were possible because they had been able to move their thinking and actions away from the colonial ways of doing things.

Romance5 Traits Of An Insecure Girlfriend by Uranus1(op): 4:32pm On Jul 10, 2018
It is still very important to know what to look out for in deciding whether or not your partner is insecure.
No one wants a relationship with a girlfriend who allows insecurities blind her and cloud her decisions.
Everyone is insecure to some degree, of course. So one or two mild signs of insecurity are not enough to send you running away from her.
Having said that, however, it is still very important to know what to look out for in order to know whether your partner is insecure or not not.
Why you need to know if your partner is insecure
It is important to know if your partner is unduly or unreasonably insecure because most actions borne of insecurity have the tendency to negatively affect the way they relate with you, and ultimately affect the romantic relationship you have with such partner.
To know if your partner is insecure, here are signs you'll see.
1. Undue jealousy
An insecure girlfriend gets jealous for no reason. If she has her way, such partner doesn't want you looking at other members of the opposite sex, let along conversing with them.
She is in constant fear of being traded up for a better model. Because she doesn't value herself and has low self esteem she isn't confident that she can keep you, no matter how much
assurance and reassurance » you give her of your devotion to her.

2. Tries to belittle you
Bullying and belittling are part of the arsenal of an insecure person. To make themselves feel better they try and make others feel small.
Any babe in whom you notice any form of regular attack on your self esteem » is insecure. Insecure people always want to drag you down to her own self-loathing level.

3. Demands an unsustainable level of validation
Of course, partners are meant to validate each other and use words of affirmation » with each other. This is very important, and does not detract from the need to be self-assured and secure in one's self without external validation.
However, when a partner's demand for validation and assurance and reassurance becomes illogically high, it could be a sign of insecurity. It could mean that such person has no conviction of their own importance, value, importance etc, without the validation of other people.

4. Emotional blackmail
Emotionally healthy people need to derive satisfaction from many areas of life. A relationship is just one of those. A secure partner understands this is does not command 100% of your attention. Nor will they make you feel guilty if you do not give it.

5. Overly needy
They can't be by themselves, or do anything alone. The constant need is there to be desired loved, pursued and fawned over.
If your partner is this kind of person, they likely have esteem and insecurity issues.

CultureUmkhosi Womhlanga: Dancing Naked For The King by Uranus1(op): 1:23am On Jul 10, 2018
The royal reed dance also called Umkhosi Womhlanga is an annual festival celebrated in South Africa . Girls from Zululand and small groups from Swazi land participate in this ceremony.
This is an annual ceremony in which young maidens take reeds and deposit in Enyokeni Palace where the ruler lives. The princess leads the maidens in the procession because she plays a prominent role throughout the festival . They adorn traditional attires with elaborate beadwork. They also wear bracelets and ankles . But in all this beautiful attire , the girls are half naked .
The maidens are careful not to break the reeds . Once a maiden breaks her reed, she is considered to be sexually active . These girls are said to undergo a virginity test before they participate .

After they have all dropped their reeds , the maidens dance half naked for the king.
This tradition is said to have started in the 40 s and required young virgins to dance for the royal king for an opportunity to be chosen as a young bride although there is no confirmation of this information.
After a while , the tradition stopped and was reintroduced in 1991 by Goodwill Zwelithini the traditional ruler. He used it as a measure to encourage high moral standard , abstinence from sexual activity until marriage and a measure to check the spread of HIV .

Nairaland GeneralWhen Thieves Use Pos To Do Their Business by Uranus1(op): 1:54am On Jul 09, 2018
Recently, there have been reported cases of robbers snatching people ’s Automated Teller Machine ( ATM ) cards to withdraw money; using Point of Sale ( PoS ) device to accomplish their criminal acts .
The process is usually the same . The robbers break into the house at midnight or anytime of the day . And with guns held to their heads , victims are ordered to furnish their ATM cards , as well as disclose their pin numbers , which are then confirmed with a PoS device before the cards are taken away. The robbers then proceed to withdraw as much cash as possible before daybreak , when the incident is reported and cash withdrawal stopped.
All this may sound incredible , as it seems to defeat the purpose of Central Bank of Nigeria ’s ( CBN ) cashless policy , aimed at reducing the volume of physical cash in the system and protect bank customers in their transactions .
The CBN in exercise of its powers in Section 47 ( 3 ) of the CBN Act 2007 ( as amended) issued guidelines on the maintenance of adequate and reasonable financial services for the public, to ensure high standards of conduct and management throughout the banking system , as regards the Point of Sale device , popularly known as PoS.
At all times , the device will be compliant to global industry standards, which shall be subject to review- Payment Application Data Security Standard ( PA DSS ); Payment Card Industry Pin Entry Device ( PCI PED ); Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard PCI DSS ; Data Encryption Standards ( Triple DES ) , as minimum standard; and the deployed infrastructure must comply with the minimum EMV requirements .
All these are aimed at forestalling and tracing fraud, as well as enthroning a regime of efficient payment system .
Among the numerous PoS Card Acceptance Services ’ stakeholders include the Merchant Acquirers- CBN licensed financial and non -financial institutions that have agreement with the relevant card scheme to contract with merchants to accept payment cards as means of payment for goods and services .
The next is the Merchant - the organisation or entity ( company) that contracts with a Merchant Acquirer for accepting payment by means of payment card or any other electronic payment instrument .
The other is the Cardholder - any person to whom a payment card ( debit or credit card ) is issued and whose account will eventually be debited for settlement of transactions performed with the payment card . And in some cases , will be debited in the case of fraud and outright robbery .
In one of the guidelines, a merchant shall be held liable for fraud with the card ( transactions ) arising from its negligence , connivance, among others.
With this rigorous process , can PoS robbers actually get away ?
A top source in one of the top three banks in the country explained that this is hardly possible , as obtaining a PoS from any bank goes with high level Know Your Customer ( KYC ) requirements, a recognition of the role and huge payments value the electronic channel would facilitate .
He said : “Each PoS is associated with a registered company. The real promoters of the company are made to undertake responsibilities , in case a fraud is committed with the device .
“Every card transaction with the PoS usually drops a “footage ,” popularly called “Alert ”, with the description of the merchant , which can be used to trace complaints.
“When people come for banking relationship, we will not know their motive, which is why there is a guideline to almost every policy direction . And when people fulfil those requirements, you have no reason to hold back the service , until they breach it.
“In the case of PoS, there is a face behind each device , despite the fact that it is registered with a company’s name and account. So , robbery with PoS is not a loss that cannot be resolved. ”
The Director of Banking and Payments System , CBN, ‘Dipo Fatokun, also explained that the nature of PoS operations is such that you can only access the cash by going to the bank or using the ATM to make withdrawal . The next thing is to make a transfer to other accounts, but the money will keep revolving in the banking system .
He said : “The most foolish armed robber would know that using PoS to rob people is a direct way of surrendering himself to security agencies, as the transaction record will detail the profile of the merchant and/or the merchant acquirer .”
So , how can people protect themselves from the ugly experience?

He urged every bank customer to be abreast of his or her bank ’s contact centre details, which works 24 hours, to lodge complaints early enough , once the hoodlums leave the scene.
Another source close to the regulator said what the robbers might likely do with the PoS is just use it to confirm ATM card password of their victims , before leaving the place .
“All the complaints so far recorded are more of withdrawal at the Automated Teller Machines with or without cards ,” he said . “While non -card frauds are gradually fading , card frauds are mostly possible when details are compromised like the case of robbery.”
The sources noted that in such instances , neither the bank nor the regulator is to blame , as it is purely a case of security breach, but added that in case of further inquisition , banks may explain how effective their cameras around the ATM are.
Stating that some criminals’ job is to always find the weak point in any new IT device so as to exploit such to their advantage, a bank source said nothing is impossible , when a collaborator within is involved .
He said : “You know that most crimes are committed with an inside collaborator. So, there is no device or application that is totally safe and impenetrable in the real sense of it. The PoS is not an exception .”

The Igbos are the people of an ethnic group native to southeastern Nigeria. In ancient times, rules and beliefs were adapted to keep the sanity of the land and not incur the wrath of the gods.
Most of these beliefs were born out of fear of the unknown. Even though they are thousands of years old, they are still believed and practiced by a lot of people.

In the old days and till now, when a man is interested in marrying a woman, he calls his kins men, takes a calabash of fresh palm wine and walks to the girl's house to ask her father for her hand. He carries the keg on his head till he gets to the house. It is considered a bad for his calabash of wine to fall to the ground before he gets to his destination. If this happens, he is to turn back immediately and desist from his plans to marry from that particular house.7

It was believed that two fingers of plantain joined together was a bad omen. When one is separating them, he/she is to put it behind his back and not use his/her eyes to see the separation. If not, the person would give birth to conjoined twins.

Eke (python)
Pythons are generally sacred in Igboland and must not be killed or eaten. Pythons are believed to be the reincarnation of ancestors, and regarded as “our father.” They are also believed to be Ala , the guardian of the land/underworld. Killing a python is like killing one’s own father, and apart from drawing the ire of the whole community, it could also draw the ire of the gods.

Suicide
Killing oneself or committing suicide is a taboo in Igboland, and so much frowned upon by both man and gods that the victim of suicide must never be buried within the community. His body is cursed and must never be buried in the land, but in the Forbidden Forest or outside the town to prevent such evils from befalling others in the community. This is also a common taboo to the Yoruba people » .

Using the left hand
Using " aka ekpe" , or left hand to do anything is forbidden in Igboland and strictly prohibited – regardless of the fact that the individual may be left-handed. A left-handed individual is trained or oriented to learn the use of the right hand in eating, writing, giving and accepting things. Elders deeply frown on giving or taking things with the left hand because it is considered most disrespectful and unfortunate. This belief is very common throughout Nigeria and is one every Nigerian will understand » .

Marrying an Osu
An Osu is an outcast within the caste system, and marrying one is considered a taboo that must never be done. An Osu or outcast is considered the property of the gods or a slave and descendant of slaves and must never be offered or taken for marriage. Free-born men and women are expected to investigate the origins and social class of an individual to be certain he/she is not an Osu before contracting marriage. Even to this day, marriage proceedings have been stopped because investigations discovered either family was a descendant of an osu.

RomanceWhat 'benching' Means And How It Affects Your Dating Life by Uranus1(op): 1:42am On Jul 07, 2018
Benching is what happens when you start dating someone you think is nice and who has potential, but you're not crazy about them.
Modern relationship practices among millennials include ghosting, gaslighting » , stonewalling » and benching among others.
These idea of these things may have been in existence before now, but this generation is putting cool names on them, making them easier to understand and more recognisable by people who should know about them the most.
According to Urban dictionary, benching is what happens when "you start dating someone you think is nice and who has potential, but you're not crazy about them.
You don't know whether to keep dating them, or dump them and move on to the next one... so instead of going for either of the above polarized options, you put [the person] in your mental 'maybe' folder and 'bench them' so you date around to see what else is out there."
In essence, benching is the emotional manipulation of people into staying interested in you.
If you find someone else better, the benching could easily turn to ghosting as there'd be no need to go back to explain or say anything to them. The relationship is left to just fade away like that.

How benching affects relationships
The practice of holding out for better while putting someone else 'on hold' may sound quite selfish but really, it is difficult to condemn someone looking out for themselves and what's best for them.
However a line has to be drawn when one person leads the other on for so long, refusing to commit while keeping their options open all along while the other has his or her hopes solely pinned on the possibility of a relationship with the person who has already benched him or her.
What could also happen is that during the search for something better you may lose the great person who could have made a great partner. And you know what's worse? The search for something better sometimes produces nothing.
That's like trying to trade something valuable and getting nothing in return.

CrimeUnion Official Punches Motorcyclist To Death Over N150 Ticket by Uranus1(op): 3:11am On Jul 05, 2018
An official of a commercial motorcyclists’ association in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Wednesday allegedly punched a motorcycle rider, Ibrahim Raji, to death.

It was gathered that the official attacked Raji over his refusal to obtain the daily union ticket of N150.

The incident was said to have occurred at the Iyana Mortuary area of the metropolis.

The union official, identified simply as Saheed, reportedly flagged down the victim, who was a father of four, at Iyana Mortuary bus stop and demanded the day’s ticket which the rider could not produce.

It was gathered that Raji told Saheed that he was not a commercial motorcyclist, popularly called okada rider, but a bricklayer going to work and did not need to obtain any ticket.

Raji’s insistence not to pay N150 for the ticket was said to have infuriated Saheed, who dragged him down from his motorcycle and punched him on the forehead which made him fall into a gutter, where he died.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the union official wore a locally-made charmed ring on one of his fingers, which turned his punch into a “killer punch.”

It was gathered that Saheed and other union officials present at the scene made s efforts to save the victim by rushing him to the nearby Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, but he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The death of Raji led to a spontaneous protest by scores of commercial motorcyclists present at the scene, which spread to some major streets in the capital city.

The protesters asked Governor Ibikunle Amosun to immediately withdraw union officials from roads.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The suspect has been arrested; he is with us. The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation and possible prosecution of the suspect.”

Oyeyemi warned members of the public against taking the laws into their own hands.

FashionThree Home Remedies For Dark Underarms by Uranus1(op): 12:45am On Jul 03, 2018
Dark underarms are not a disease or medical condition. Understanding this is very important. They can be caused by the skin’s response to certain elements like exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

Some of the major causes of dark underarms are shaving, regular use of hair removing creams, excessive sweating and use of alcohol-based deodorants and antiperspirants.

Here are three home remedies to get rid of dark underarms.

Potato
Unlike strong bleaching agents, the mild acidic property present in potatoes is a great natural bleaching agent that will not cause skin irritation. You can try this remedy with either of these simple methods. Use them twice daily for faster results.

Rub a thin slice of potato on your underarms.
Grate the potato and apply the juice to the affected area. Allow it to dry for 15 to 20 minutes and then wash it off.

Cucumber
Just like potatoes, cucumbers also have natural bleaching properties to help lighten discoloured skin. Repeat either of the methods below once a day for best results.

Rub a thin cucumber slice on your underarms. Do this once or twice daily until you are satisfied with the results.
Extract the juice from a cucumber and mix it with a little turmeric powder and lemon juice. Apply this paste on the affected area. Leave it on for 30 minutes and then wash it off. Repeat once daily for best results.
Lemon
Lemon is a powerful natural bleaching agent but can dry out your skin. Use the method below a few times a week and apply a moisturiser after each use to prevent dried skin.

Rub lemon on your skin for a few minutes. Leave the juice on your skin for about 10 minutes and then wash the area thoroughly. For better results, sprinkle a little sugar on the lemon before use.

HealthCauses And Treatment Of Alopecia by Uranus1(op): 12:34am On Jul 03, 2018
Hair loss, though typically tagged as a male thing, has now been considered as a condition that affects anyone regardless of gender. According to the American Hair Loss Association, everyone sheds about 100 hairs per day. This is part of the regular hair growth cycle, but the excess loss of hair can be embarrassing.

Alopecia, the medical term for hair loss, doesn’t only happen on the scalp. Although most cases on the head are genetic, several illnesses and medications can trigger it.

Symptoms
Contrary to popular opinion, hair loss is quite different from shedding of hair; shed hairs often grow back. People often shed hair when going through stressful situations like childbirth, breakups, divorce or grief.

Causes
Aside from genetics, a wide variety of factors can cause alopecia. They include hairstyles, hair treatments, hormone imbalance, illness, surgery, medication, nutritional deficits and ageing.

Treatment and medication
According to the Cleveland Clinic, treatments include:

Hair weaves or wigs: Females have it easy. Baldness or hair loss can be covered up with wigs or hair weaves to cover the full head of hair. Also, cancer patients who experience temporary hair loss have found this useful.

Anti-inflammatory medications: Prescription steroid-based creams or injections from a doctor can reduce follicles damaged or inflamed by harsh chemicals or excessive pulling.

Natural remedies: Natural remedies like coconut oil can be applied to the scalp to reverse hair loss.

Surgery: Surgery is recommended for men over women as their hair loss is mostly restricted to just one or two areas of the scalp. Scalp reduction can be used to remove the bald skin on the scalp. This way, the hair-covered scalp can fill in bald areas.

FashionCosmetics: Side Effects Of Excessive Makeup by Uranus1(op): 10:44am On Jul 01, 2018
Some women consider making up their faces an essential part of looking good. To this category of women, their dressing is not complete without dabbing different colours on their faces in the name of makeup. Often, such women also find it hard stepping out of their homes without wearing makeup, which has more or less become an addiction or routine.
However, for a long time now, researchers have warned that most ingredients used in the production of nearly all cosmetics contain toxic chemicals that are harmful to health. And not only do they cause serious skin-related health problems, but could also lead to the occurrence of such deadly illnesses as cancer and kidney failure.

Shedding light on the negative effects of frequent use of makeup, Dr. Ayesha Akinkugbe, a Consultant Dermatologist and Genito-Urinary Physician at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos said cosmetics definitely come with a price.

She said: “For instance, makeup causes, worsens acne and clogs the pores on the skin due to certain oils contained in many cosmetics, which cause a type of acne, known as acne cosmetic. This occurs, when oils from makeup collect in and clog the pores. Also, chemicals found in some foundations or powders may dry out your skin and make it look flaky, dull, and ashen.

“These cosmetics may also cause cracks and fine wrinkles in the skin, which could cause an infection to develop. Dryness also makes the skin itch. “Some people experience allergic reactions to some common ingredients used in the production of cosmetics, and these come in two forms: irritant contact dermatitis, which is an itching or burning reaction to a product irritating the skin, and allergic contact dermatitis, which is more of an allergy to specific ingredients that results in swelling, itching, or blisters commonly caused by fragrances or preservatives in makeup and other skin care products.”

To avoid these negative reactions, she advised that a mosturiser could be applied about five minutes before the foundation or powder is used. A hydrating foundation or powder will also help. She recommended the use of makeup products that are fragrance and oil-free, as fragrances and oils are typically the most irritating to the skin.

“Preservatives in makeup include parabens, which have been detected in cancer cells,” she explained. “Formaldehyde can also be found in cosmetics, and can irritate the eyes and skin.”On what makes makeup unfriendly, she said: “Several constituents of makeup are unfriendly and some are toxic. It is also important to understand that some cancer-associated chemicals are found in a host of cosmetics like paraben, which have been proven to disturb the function of hormones. They are also linked to the development of breast cancer. So, too much constant make-up is not good for the skin. It doesn’t allow the skin to breathe and can be difficult to take off, thereby causing more pressure to be applied on the skin in the process of removing it.

She, therefore, urged women who can’t do without makeup to take a break to allow the skin heal.“If they do this, then they would need to use hypoallergenic products. It’s better to find natural cosmetics, which contain only organic and pure ingredients. While some organic makeup may cost a bit more, it’s worth it, because there are no associated carcinogenic risks with genuine, natural and organic products,” she said.

Buttressing Akinkugbe’s stance, Dr. Austeen Akaehomen, Medical Director, City of David Hospital, Festac, Lagos, said the use of makeup comes with side effects on the skin, when used continuously. He said: “It is so unfortunate that most of the people who use heavy makeup are not even aware of the consequences that are tied to it, which include infertility. Some of the chemicals used in producing cosmetics even interfere with the hormones. So, cosmetics lovers should be aware that some of these makeups are harmful, though they can make you look good temporarily. But on the long run, they cause adverse effects on the skin gradually, and possibly lead to an early demise.

“Constant use of makeup causes allergies, as sensitive skins react to the constituents of the makeup product, as most of the products are made from different chemicals, leading to itching, burning, face rash and other skin related problems and then headaches. A lot of cosmetics have formaldehyde in them, which when absorbed into the skin, causes headaches when it is used continuously.”

But in her view, Ololade Fanimokun, CEO, Facetalk Makeup and Salon, Ikeja, said makeup has little or no negative side effects. She, however, listed some guiding rules required to ensure that any adverse effect is minimised.

She said: “Makeup should be washed off before going to sleep, to avoid clogging the skin pores. The expiry date of makeup products should also be checked before purchase. Most cosmetics have their expiry date, starting from first use.

“A good cosmetic product will not cause any harm or irritation. It is only the cheap, unknown brands that tend to dispatch products without quality control. So, I advise women to be careful and go for known brands, when buying cosmetics. They should also buy from trusted stores.

“It’s no news that there are fake makeup products made from poor combination of chemicals all over the place. So, proper examination is necessary when purchasing. Also, manufacturer’s instructions should be properly read and understood before any cosmetic is used. With popular brands, there are usually specific instructions for different skin types and possible ailments, when not properly used. With all these precautions, related skin issues arising from use of cosmetics will be minimal.”

RomanceFive Signs Your Partner Is Controlling by Uranus1(op): 1:30am On Jun 30, 2018
Love is not the passionate , obsessive and all -consuming romantic stories that are spun into films or written in a romantic novel . Contrary to that, in real life , love requires trust, space and respect and not obsession and manipulation. Many people are stuck in a relationship with a manipulative and controlling person and they feel his / her behaviour is a sign of love and devotion . Here are signs that your partner is controlling .

Isolating you from friends and family
They do it subtly . They do not come on strong . This is a sign of a controlling person. They start commenting on how often you call your family or close friends and gradually it turns into complaints. They find reasons you shouldn ’t spend time with your close friends and slowly strip you of support system that way there is no one to lean on .

Chronic criticism
In this case , everything done is criticised. They begin to feel they need validation for everything . The controlled person feel they ‘not good enough ’ so every criticism is deserved. It’s true that we are all work in progress ,but having someone always criticise your clothes, hair, how you walk , should make you question what he / she saw in you in the first place .

Veiled or overt threats
Some people think that physical threats are the only threat there is . But some partners are manipulative emotionally. They make their partner emotionally exhausted with the threat of killing themselves which makes their partner feel obliged to stay in the relationship. Other threats could come in stop giving financial support or threatening to take the children away .

Making love conditional
In this case , every expression of love has a conditional phrase . Phrases like “I love you so much more when you lose weight . “If you can ’ t help me out with finances then why are we in this relationship ”. “You ’d be beautiful if only you made more effort ”. This clearly shows that he/she does not think that you are good enough . This is one indication of a manipulative and controlling person.

Requiring constant disclosure
When a partner monitors every step taken and demands to know everything and constantly snoops around , that partner is controlling .
Checking call logs , e -mails and demanding explanation for everything is a sign that he has no interest in trusting you.

RomanceSure Ways To Spot An Emotionally Abusive Partner by Uranus1(op): 1:59am On Jun 27, 2018
Emotional abuse often gets addressed second to physical abuse because, unlike the latter, there are no visible scars and immediate obvious damage.
However, emotional abuse is just as horrendous to your relationship as physical abuse and should not be condoned in any way.
But then, how do you solve a problem when you do not know that it exists?
So, here are to things to watch out for in order to know that your partner is [intentionally/unintentionally] being emotionally abusive.
1. Unfavourable comparisons
If your partner never tires of maliciously comparing you to people that are better than you, it’s a sign of emotional abuse.
A good partner recognizes what the feeling of insufficiency does to a person’s psyche and will not intentionally do so, and surely not regularly.

2. Act like dating you is a favour to you
This is a major sign of an abusive partner. They mess with your head and make you feel like no one else would want you.
If your partner ever does this, even in jest, you should definitely keep an eye open.

3. Justify toxic actions with love
If your partner tries to rationalize extreme jealousy, unnecessary watchfulness, robbery of every trace of your independence and other actions by claiming it is because they love you, you need to know this is a sign of emotional abuse.
Being in love magnifies togetherness, but not to the complete detriment of individuality which it is meant to be preserved no matter how interconnected your life and your boo’s gets.

4. Downplays your worth
A partner who makes you feel like you’re worthless and useless is surely not one for you.
If they make you question your intelligence, make you feel less of a person than you are, and intentionally use their words to tear at your confidence and rip off your worth, you know better that to not run away as far as you can.

Romance3 Things To Do When You Find Yourself Falling For Someone Other Than Your Boo by Uranus1(op): 1:46am On Jun 27, 2018
In an ideal situation, getting into a serious relationship will awaken your sense of commitment to your partner but it won't take away your ability to become attracted to other people.
Becoming a Mr. or Mrs. will not make you become immune to the charm of other women or men; and just like single people, your ability to feel drawn to good looking and appealing people will remain intact and alive as ever.
What, then, do you do when you find yourself falling for someone else? What happens when you find yourself becoming attracted to some other woman at work, in church, on your street or in some other space?
So you're attracted to another man that's not your boyfriend or husband, what next?
The three tips below will help you if you ever find yourself in this situation.

1. Minimise contact
This is a no-brainer . » Attraction feeds of constant contact and regularly visiting the object of desire. Staying away will not automatically get your mind off that person, but it is the first step to ensuring that you do not do something regretful.
You do not want to feed the attraction. You want it to die down, not snowball.
So avoid communication and contact as much as is reasonable.

2. No comparisons
This won't help. Drawing comparisons » between your new love interest and your existing partner is not an exercise you need. Your partner does not need that, too. And your relationship surely does not need this either.
There's every likelihood that your partner will lag behind in some areas that the other woman excels at. Making these comparisons will only make you dwell on those things your partner falls short at, and in contrast, it'll make the other person look more attractive.
