FamilyWhat Happens When You Don’t Forgive? by Uranus1(op): 2:36am On Aug 06, 2018
“The weak can never forgive . Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong”- Mahatma Gandhi
Firstly you need to ask what is forgiveness ?

On a general note , forgiveness means letting go of the feeling of resentment or revenge towards a person. Due to the way all humans are unique in their character and beliefs, we sometimes step on each others toes unknowingly and at that leaving one person angry and bitter . Simple things like words or actions of another person can leave a person hurt and seriously traumatized say in cases of a cheating partner , an abused child , conflict between business partners or a person who has been physically or emotionally abused, such cases would only make a person seek revenge.
While forgiveness might seem like an easy thing to speak about , it gets hard when you’re actually faced with life challenges that requires forgiveness . Also agreeing with the popular saying “ time heals all wounds ” it is also worthy to note that you’ll forgive easier when you realize and accept that No one is perfect and each person has flaws .
Everyone talks about the reasons why you should forgive , but here are the side effects of holding a grudge :

You become bitter and angry
Many people underestimate the effects of being unforgiving and are unaware that unforgiveness only takes away your peace of mind and ass such , makes you bitter and angry. Often times you carry this into every relationship and damage another person.

You dwell on the past
Holding a grudge simply means you’re still dwelling on the past and have refused to enjoy the present .

You become anxious or depressed
when you often think of that person who hurt you, you become anxious and sometimes start sinking into depression as sometimes this other person isn’ t even aware of what you’re going through and goes about living a normal life while you stay hurting .

You start feeling empty
There is no better signal for you to forgive a person than when you start feeling like your life lacks meaning or purpose or that you’ re at odds with your spiritual beliefs.

You start losing people who truly care
When you refuse to forgive , you start projecting your bitterness and anger on others and as such you start losing your valuable and well-meaning relationships with others.

RomanceWhy It's Important To Retain Your Individuality While Dating by Uranus1(op): 2:16am On Aug 04, 2018
So while it’s OK to make compromises and sacrifices for your partner and the togetherness you share with them, do not forget that your identity needs attention too.
The perfect idea of a relationship is the unification of two separate people. Two souls merging into one through a conscious, unending willingness to keep learning, understanding, unlearning and relearning ways to be great for each other, to each other and to never deny the other of the things that bring genuine happiness to them and set their souls alight.
The conflict that comes with this idea of unification is the need for people to remain themselves, to keep being the great individual they were before they invested part of their being into forming that new romantic entity with the love of their lives. So many times, people get into relationships and put so much of themselves into it that they forget how to be individuals. They pay so much attention to togetherness to such extent that they forget how to be individuals and this is one not-so-great relationship behaviours that need more conversation.
Maintaining individuality is critical to establishing a long-lasting, healthy partnership. Therefore, equal efforts between attending to oneself and making the relationship work are necessary.
So while it’s OK to make compromises and sacrifices for your partner, do not forget that your identity needs attention too. As much as it makes sense to be a Mr. and a Mrs.; and as much as it is fine to be this person’s girlfriend or that person’s girlfriend, you need to always think of who you are before your identity and your partner’s merged, and always put in efforts to further beautify that identity.
Your individuality does not have to be sacrificed on the altar of relationships. That education, that career, those life-long goals you have always had… you don’t have to dead them. Yes, maybe some sort of delay may be necessary for your partner’s sake depending on the strength of your union with your boo and the route your life journey takes, but by all means don’t deny yourself the opportunity to be the best version of yourself all in the name of tightly knotting your soul with your partner’s.
Be yourself, pursue those goals and love fearlessly. Expect your partner to love you for who you are and love them back.

Food5 Foods Every Struggling Nigerian Knows Well by Uranus1(op): 2:01am On Aug 04, 2018
Some way, some how, every Nigerian can relate to eating at least one of these foods.
No need to form, you've probably had one of these.
1. Indomie
Indomie has been saving lives since forever. Noodles is one of the fastest meal to make, which makes it easy for just anyone to cook, including those who cannot cook up a nice meal.
2. Concoction rice
Concoction rice, or Native Jollof rice , is usually made differently from the regular Jollof rice and it is a meal every Nigerian has had once in their lifetime. The main ingredients are rice and palm oil, every other thing is secondary.
3. Watery beans and bread
Most times, they form a group (say all the boys in a room), cook and eat the beans together. Very delicious meal!
4. Garri and groundnut
Garri and Groundnut (sometimes milk) is the ultimate. Just a small quantity is enough to give a belly full for the day/night ahead.
5. Bread and Coke/Fanta
People say it's labourer's food but you've done this. Don't lie.

CultureDid You Know About The Igbo People Of Jamaica? by Uranus1(op): 3:52am On Aug 03, 2018
Never heard about the Igbo People » of Jamaica? There is in fact a group of people in Jamaica called "Red Ibo" because of the light skinned nature of the original Igbo slaves.
The "Red Ibo" or "Red Eboe" was used to refer to the Igbo slaves in Jamaica because of their light skin. Igbo slaves were also distinguished physically by their fair or “yellow” skin tones. Today, in Jamaica, “red eboe” is used to describe people with light skin tones with African features.
Originating primarily from the Bight of Biafra in West Africa, Igbo people were taken in relatively high numbers to Jamaica as slaves, between 1790 and 1809 during the transatlantic slave trade. Besides Virginia, Jamaica was the second most common disembarkation point for slave ships arriving from Biafra.
During this period, the culture and language of the Igbos diffused into the Jamaican culture. One of the major results of this diffusion is the infusion of some Igbo words into the Jamaican Patois.
Some of these words include:
Unu – You people
Ima osu (Jamaica) Imu oso (Igbo)- to hiss by sucking your teeth
Akara (Jamaica) Akàrà (Igbo)– bean cake
Soso (Jamaica) Sọsọ (Igbo)- only
Also, the yam festival, Jonkonnu, in Jamaica, was introduced by the Igbos. In Nigeria, it is simply called the New Yam Festival . There is a town allegedly named after them, the Ibu Town . Jonkonnu, a parade held in Jamaica, is attributed to the Njoku Ji “yam-spirit cult”, Okonko and Ekpe of the Igbo.
The Igbo also influenced the culture with actions such as “sucking-teeth” coming from the Igbo “ima osu” and “cutting-eye” from Igbo “ iro anya”.
From Jamaica’s history, the Igbos influenced the culture, music, the pouring of libation, the “ibo” style, idioms, language and way of life of the Jamaicans.
The Jamaicans are so akin to the ways of the Igbos such that it is not uncommon to see Jamaicans watch Igbo Nollywood movies. Some of their rural areas take after the Igbo’s in Eastern Nigeria.
We cannot talk about Igbo slave history without talking about Olaudah Equiano , an Igbo slave who became literate and was one of the first to document his experiences in a book. He became an official and was very instrumental in maintaining law and order among the Igbos in Jamaica during the 1776 Mosquito Shore Scheme. He is also regarded as being one of the campaigners of the abolition of slave trade.
Igbo slaves were known to resist enslavement rather than revolt. Many of them committed suicide because they believed after death, they would return to their homeland. This suicide made most slave traders sceptical of having them as slaves.
One of the most popular resistances is the Igbo Landing , where about 75 slaves took over their boat and matched back into the water singing and chanting in Igbo. This was in Georgia.
In Jamaica, the Black River Rebellion plot which involved 250 Igbo men who conspired to kill every white man in the land. When they failed, their epic song for freedom rang high:
"Oh me good friend, Mr Wilberforce, make we free!
God Almighty thank ye! God Almighty thank ye!
God Almighty, make we free!
Buckra in this country no make we free:
What Negro for to do? What Negro for to do?
Take force by force! Take force by force!
To be sure! to be sure! to be sure!"
"Buckra" was a term introduced by Igbo and Efik slaves in Jamaica to refer to white slave owners and overseers.

Nairaland GeneralRecognize The Toxicity In You by Uranus1(op): 2:16am On Aug 02, 2018
In order to grow, you need to learn to cut off everything that’s holding you back. And one very hard pill to swallow is your own toxicity. It is not always the other person, perhaps it is you. Perhaps you are the one hindering your own growth.
Have you seen a person who doesn’t work hard but blames his failures on his village people? Many times, we are like that because blaming people is much easier than accepting our faults.
Sometimes, your series of failed relationships is not the fault of your partners. Sometimes, your inability to keep a job is not the fault of your bosses. Sometimes, your inability to keep a steady friendship is not because you meet bad people all the time. Sometimes, you are the toxic one.
Your mind can alter your self-worth and self-image and make you believe that you are a saint despite the fact that you are not. You just have to learn to be honest with your self and realize that you can hurt people too and you can push people away whether it is your intention or not.
Sometimes, people leave us because of how we treat them, and we might not be aware or perhaps we are but are unwilling to accept it.
Recognize your own toxicity habits and work on them.

RomanceHe Loves Me But Won’t Commit by Uranus1(op): 1:52am On Aug 02, 2018
By now , you are probably tired of the fact that your partner has not made any commitment moves. He ticks all the tabs in your bucket list . He is a good listener. He treats you favourably and makes you his priority . He is willing to help with your problems and the chemistry is obviously there. Yet , he has not said anything about committing and you keep making excuses for his actions.
Albeit frustrating , this can put you in a spot of uncertainty . While you take the traditional step of waiting for him, time might be ticking . Yet , making a move can make you look desperate.

Fortunately , you can subtly convince him to reconsider his option but first , there are a few things to take into cognisance :
-Learn to be positive.
-Be a queen.
-If he flirts with you, return the favour.
You might say that you have done all that and he still won ’t make any moves. Don ’t let that bother you. He might belong to the school of thought that believes he needs to take things slow and go with the flow and, at the right time , everything will fall into place .

If he is that type , you can help him by going against the traditional rule and make the first move subtly . This is simply done by knowing how to activate his “attraction triggers ”. Some of these triggers include :
-Knowing the right words and when to say them .
-Being an independent woman who knows what she wants.
-Having a life where your world does not revolve around him.
-Being understanding and giving peace of mind .
-Knowing where to touch him.
-Playing hard to get but harder to forget.

RomanceRules That Move You From A Drifting Relationship To A Romantic One by Uranus1(op): 1:41am On Aug 02, 2018
People get pissed off when they realize that what they are seeing isn’t what they had in mind at the onset- they get dissatisfied with their partners. If you truly love your partner, your relationship is so important to you. Because of its importance, you really are working tirelessly to take it to a better level even in your imperfect state. What are some of those things to keep in mind so as to make your relationship flourish? Well, giving proper consideration to these rules could help your stand against the wind that tends to destroy relationships.

Love your partner, come what may. Some people are in a relationship but aren’t experiencing love, let alone true love. Even if it seems hard, show your partner that you love him unconditionally.

You must be honest. Trust won’t be established if you hide things from your partner. Try as much as you can to remain honest in all things.

Spend quality time with your partner. When quality time is spent with someone, it draws you closer to that person.

Don’t forget to compliment your partner whenever necessary. He/She needs compliments, showing they are special in your life if you truly love them.

Learn to share things in common. These things include ideas, goals, and other important things partners need to share in a relationship.

Also, it is right to argue, but end it as soon as possible even if the last thing to do is to kiss him/her; showing you are really not ready to argue over everything that comes up.
You must learn to forgive and let the past be the past. Forgiveness is very essential for a relationship to flourish.

These few rules will change a drifting relationship into a romantic one.
Remember, no relationship is the same. So, instead of imitating another’s, learn from your own successes and failures.

Nairaland GeneralReasons For Procrastination by Uranus1(op): 3:00am On Aug 01, 2018
We all know that procrastination is the sworn enemy of successful people. It is a robber of dreams and the deceiver that tells you that time is an ally. Inasmuch as we know these things, why do really procrastinate? What is at the root of this evil? I think identifying the true cause of a problem helps in nipping it in the bud.

Laziness
I would like to think of more lofty things of a lot of us but the truth is that many of us do not get up to do the needful for no other reason than good old slothfulness. My advice: you need an accountability buddy to move you into action.

Lack of interest
One reason you haven’t gotten round to beginning a project is that probably, your heart is not in it. This is why passion cannot be overemphasized when it comes to being a success. If it is something you must do then break it into simpler bits rather than go at it as a whole.

Indecision
Some of us are blessed with the curse of indecision. When too many options are set before us, it is like our heads are spinning so we believe that no action is better than a wrong one. However, also remember that failure is an inevitable part of any success story. It is best that you venture and fail so you’ll know what not to do in future.

Misguided notions
Unfortunately, some of us entertain some wrong mindsets that hinder our progress. One of such is that there is such a time as the perfect time. Inasmuch as timing is important, it is still impossible to have every condition perfect before you proceed. You just have to launch in faith!

Health9 Common Habits That Can Seriously Damage Your Kidneys by Uranus1(op): 6:14pm On Jul 30, 2018
Your kidneys play a very important role in your body and you have all the reasons to ensure they are in good condition.

Kidney diseases are among the most dreaded diseases since treating kidney disease is not only expensive but also getting a kidney transplant can be difficult.

Some of the common habits we have can dangerously damage your kidneys and you need to stop them asap.

Here are some of them:

1. Holding urine
Once you get that call of nature, get up and relieve your bladder as soon as possible. Urine contains toxins that can be harmful to your bladder if held for longer periods.

2. Not drinking enough water
I know water is tasteless but you must take more than 1.5 liters of water each day if you care about your health. Drinking enough water helps the kidney to flush out toxins that may damage the kidneys.

3. Salt
Go slow on your salt shaker and try as much as possible to minimize your consumption of salt. The Sodium Chloride present in salt can lead to hypertension. Hypertension is one of the leading causes of kidney diseases.

4. Alcoholism
Your kidneys ensure that all the harmful substances are eliminated out of your body. When you drink heavily, you overload your kidneys and they are not able to filter toxins as required.

5. Over the counter drugs
We are all victims of taking pain relievers every time we have a slight headache. While they help us relive the pain, pain killers are not friendly to your kidneys especially when consumed on a regular basis.

6. Excess proteins
Proteins are good for your body but very dangerous when consumed in large amounts. The by product of protein digestion is ammonia which is toxic and needs to be neutralized. Much protein consumption is thus an extra job for the kidney which may be an overload.

7. Smoking
However much you love your cigars, they are not only harmful to your lungs but also your kidneys. Smoking constricts and hardens your veins which leads to high blood pressure. Any habit that could lead to high blood pressure must be avoided by all means.

8. Failure to exercise
Frequent exercise saves you the risk of getting kidney diseases. Try and jog every morning or take a walk if you cannot go to the gym.

9. Inadequate sleep
Every part of your body needs good rest including the kidneys. When you are asleep, your kidneys undergo a renewal process to enable them function properly when you are awake.

CultureHusbands Carry Pregnant Wives Over Burning Coal In China by Uranus1(op): 1:37am On Jul 29, 2018
Every culture has their own beliefs and rituals concerning the pregnant mothers. In China , the rituals regarding pregnancies range from unique to something that should be practised throughout the world to better the way pregnant women are treated.
In China , once a woman conceives , the father - to- be carries his pregnant wife over amber coloured , burning coal . It is said that if the father successfully does this , the mother is believed to have a smooth and less painful labour. The men do this painful ritual because the mother of the child during the pregnancy has 9 months of raging hormones , and pain, they do not think that they should have an easy journey either.
This ritual might seem like a taboo to others because walking on coal seems very unhelpful in “making it easier” for their pregnant wives, however , it is a very unique , and spiritual one that shows how the father takes on some of the pain that the mother has to deal with.
They believe this ritual shows the compassion and love that the father of the soon - to-be has for the newborn child , and the mother.
The world would definitely be a better place for pregnant women if all the fathers - to- be actually showed the devotion and compassion for this beautiful process of life , like the Chinese.

TV/MoviesFive Great Horror Movies Released In The First Half Of 2018 You Should Watch by Uranus1(op): 2:12am On Jul 28, 2018
Horror movies are in a world of their own and 2018 has so far provided very interesting flicks for lovers of this movie genre. Writers and directors of horror flicks are doing their best to outdo one another this year and the competition has produced some great movies.
Here are five great horror movies released in the first half of the year that will really be worth your time.

Hereditary
Budding director, Ari Aster makes an unforgettable debut with Hereditary, a movie that takes a different direction with its portrayal of family dysfunction.
The story follows Annie Graham (Toni Collette) who after the death of her reclusive grandmother, starts to see her family unravel as their mysterious past meshes with their chaotic present.
What stands Hereditary out is the fact that it is unpredictable, despite starting like any horror movie with a haunted house.

A Quiet Place
This menacing horror movie is set in a silent world but does so much to capture your attention. In a not-too-distant future a race of mean, massive, unmanageable, multi-appendaged spider-like monsters have appeared. In this bleak tomorrow, the scant survivors have to adapt to a world of deliberate silences.
Here, the Abbott family, Lee (John Krasinski) and Evelyn (Emily Blunt), who along with their three young children — sons Marcus (Noah Jupe) and Beau (Cade Woodward), and deaf daughter Regan (Millicent Simmonds) — have turned their remote farmhouse and environs into a survivalist ranch.

The Ritual
Based on Adam Nevill’s frightening 2011 novel of the same name, this psychological movie is bound to scare you to your bones.
Rafe Spall stars as Luke, one of four college pals who’ve reunited several months after the tragic death of their friend, Robert (Paul Reid).
The group have decided to take Robert’s ashes with them on a trek through the Scandinavian wilderness, not just as an act of catharsis and tribute, but also for their own healing. But soon the men find themselves in a deep, dark forest where an ancient evil known as a Jötunn is following them.
This is one horror flick you’d be glad you watched if you are one of those that loves to get a bit of fright from movies.

Unsane
Starring a dazzling Claire Foy as Sawyer Valentini, a thirtysomething urban professional who has had to go to great lengths to avoid her persistent stalker, David Strine (Joshua Leonard), Unsane should have you scared to your pants.
Sawyer had hoped that, having relocated from Boston to a more tranquil and mundane Pennsylvania would vanquish Strine from her thoughts and improve her mental health, but Strine seems to be everywhere.
To gain better focus of her fears, Sawyer sees a counsellor at the Highland Creek Behavioural Center, but before you can say “a better bottom line for the insurance companies” Sawyer is being incarcerated over some suggestive (and innocuous) comments.
Things go from bad to worse as the mixed ward Sawyer is stuck in contains the verbally abusive Violet (Juno Temple), a secretive and potential ally in Nate (Jay Pharoah), and a few Nurse Ratched-level healthcare “professionals”, and worst of all, a suspicious orderly named George Shaw, who reminds her of Strine.

Annihilation
Lena (Natalie Portman), a grieving biology professor and former U.S. Army soldier, is part of an all-female reconnaissance outfit sent into a top secret stretch of North American coast where something alien has altered the environment, causing nature to go berserk.
The resultant effect of the alien invasion sees plantlife growing into gorgeous and sinister floral forms and humanlike shapes.
Lena and the rest of her unit, not at all the first reconnaissance team to lose their way trying to penetrate this strange southern zone, startlingly realize that their mental and emotional faculties are gradually being sacked in by the uncertainties of the environment.

Romance7 Reasons Why A Rebound Relationship Is A Bad Idea by Uranus1(op): 1:37am On Jul 28, 2018
When someone newly gets out of a relationship and decides to get into another one either because they don't know how to be alone, or because they don't want to, such relationship is known as a rebound relationship.
When heartbreak happens, it is often better to give one’s self the chance to heal and come to terms with what has happened.
Getting straight into another relationship just after one ended isn’t always a good idea.
So you know what rebound relationship means, and that it's usually a bad idea, but that’s not all there is to this kind of relationship.
Below, we list seven more things you should know about this:
1. Rebound relationships can begin with a lot of baggage that is left over from the previous relationship.

2. It is always about the ex. Not about you or your new partner.
It is always about that former partner to whom you want to prove that you are lovable, or that you have moved on.

3. Rebound relationships could be fun though. Especially if both partners know that it is nothing serious, and try to enjoy each other’s company while it lasts.

4. It could be the perfect transitional period for a heartbroken person. Instead of being alone and suffering the pain of the heartbreak all by yourself; you could lessen the pain by having someone to do ‘relationship things’ with.

5. They are often temporary.

6. Where one of the partners realizes later that he/she has only been used as a rebound from a relationship, it could lead to another breakup.
One is then forced to ask; what, then, is the point of the rebound relationship?

7. Rebound relationships are more damaging than therapeutic. It is better to let yourself feel the pain, loneliness and emptiness and then move on from that point, knowing you have shed yourself of all negative emotions and your next-step is actually "moving on."

FamilyFirst Impressions 101 by Uranus1(op): 1:42am On Jul 27, 2018
Almost nothing can be imprinted on the memory as much as a first impression. Let us face it, we usually remember the first time we met certain people because of the impression they left on us.
First impressions provide a rough idea of who you are and in the event that you give a wrong first impression, you may lose a really good chance.
Looking to always leave a good first impression? Here are the tips:

1. Have the right mindset
It all begins from your mind. You have to believe that everyone deserves to be treated right, not just when you want something from them. Remember that someone else may be watching how you treat others and that can form their own first impression of you. Thus, be polite to EVERYONE. Always look presentable. Always be on your best behavior.

2. Smile
Nothing relaxes your face and makes you look more approachable than a smile. Even if you are ordering at a restaurant or asking a stranger for directions, smile.

3. Be polite
Being polite doesn’t mean you are flirting and it surely does not mean you are dumb. Isn’t it better to be polite to someone you will never see again than realize you were rude to someone who would become your boss?

4. Be confident
Confidence shines through all the time, same way fear can be smelt. It is attractive when it is obvious that you can handle yourself comfortably anywhere. Whatever you are doing or wherever you find yourself, be bold, even if you are lost.

Romance“13 Reasons Why” You’re Still Single by Uranus1(op): 2:30am On Jul 26, 2018
Being lonely sucks . Some people remain single for such a long time that they start to think that the universe is out to get them or the terrestrial forces from their village put a target on their forehead . Well, the good news is that you’ re not being attacked by the universe or terrestrial forces. The bad news , however , is that you may be the cause for your relationship status .
While the title is inspired by the famous TV show , “13 reasons why ”, here are the 13 likely reasons why you are still single :

You fear being vulnerable
People often fear what they don ’t know and try to protect themselves from situations where they become dependent on someone else either for their happiness or something else . People fear getting hurt , but the only trick or solution to this is to find the right person to be vulnerable with.

You ’ re stuck in a “ Situation - ship ”
Like the modern day relationship tagged “Friends with benefits ”( FWB ) , most people these days like to avoid the responsibilities that comes with being in a relationship so they just prefer to have their sexual needs met without being emotionally attached .
Getting out of this type of relationship gets tough when one party gets emotionally attached . The only way out of this is having a discussion about what you both want and if it doesn ’t match your needs , take a further step to end it and move on.

You ’ re stuck on an ex
Moving on from a loved one can prove tough but, no matter how cliche it may seem, you have to go out and meet new people . Some breakups can leave you confused and have you questioning your awesomeness . But give yourself another chance to love and stop pushing away people who make an attempt.

You believe in “ e- romance ”
Although it may seem easier and they may meet your attachment needs, online romances aren’t always the real deal and are often not good enough .

You ’ re looking for “ the one ”
Most people think there is only one ideal partner meant for them in the entire universe and they limit themselves to finding the perfect one without giving any other person a chance . We suggest that you correct your mindset , choose someone , and then allow them to get closer to you.

You limit yourself with standards
People often focus on certain criteria like “must have a college degree ,” “must live within this distance ” “must be this age ” “must drive this car ” “must be 6 ft tall ” etc, but while its always good to have a standard , learn not to limit yourself to types and get carried away as someone could possess all of your superficial criteria , and still be a wrong for you or not be even remotely attracted to you.

You don ’ t know what you want
People often like to lament on how they are single and haven ’t met anyone , but when asked what exactly they want or need from a partner they go blank . Deciding what you really want in a partner gets you 50 % ahead of your search. If you’ re really ready to be serious , you’ll have to be very expressive with your words and stop saying things like “lets see how things go”, “I ’m not sure what i want right now ”,etc.

You ’ re impatient and settle too easily
You hear of people starting a new relationship just after breaking up with another person. Although some people use this as a coping mechanism , it mostly never works as they just always try to fill a void . After a break up, allow yourself be sad and cry if you want, express your emotions instead of bottling it up then when you feel you’ve moved on then you can begin a new relationship.

You Play Hard to Get
While it may seem like fun to take your time and play the hardball game ,there is really no point in making a person to keep trying if you don’t share the same feelings. Once you realize there is no possible chance to have a serious relationship with a person, let this person know so you both can move on to other people .

You Think You Should Wait .
These days you hear guys say they are waiting to have money before they get into a relationship and other excuses from ladies on wy they would rather wait. The truth remains that you can find that special someone and improve while you’re with them .

You Think Good Mates Are Scarce
The fact that you have met some bad eggs doesn ’t mean everyone is out to disappoint you.Sitting back and hoping the right one finds you isn ’t the way to go as you’ll only be setting yourself up for disappointment so just go out there and date .

You can ’ t express yourself
Hard to believe as it may seem, maybe due to social awkwardness or other reasons , some people find it hard or don’t know hot to express themselves and lose out experiencing beautiful relationships . Learn to express your feelings even if its reciprocated or not.

You don ’ t put yourself out there
As the popular internet slang says “shoot your shot ”, we now see people taking chances to meet new people they fancy by asking them out on several platforms .
Note that if you wait for fate to drop Mr / Mrs . Right on your laps then you’re up for a disappointment as in this case , you have to take the bull by the horn . Also don’t shy away from social events ,who know who you may meet.

EducationASUU Cautions Jamb Against Exploiting Nigerians by Uranus1(op): 1:28am On Jul 25, 2018
The Academic Staff Union of Universities ( ASUU ) has cautioned the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board ( JAMB ) to stop exploiting Nigerians in its drive to remit impressive revenues to Federal Government ’s coffers .
ASUU President , Professor Biodun Ogunyemi , who stated this in an interview in Abuja , accused JAMB of profiting from exploiting Nigerian students and their poor parents , adding that the board was charging more than what was required to conduct the examination .
JAMB had on Sunday announced that it would remit N7 .8 billion to the Federal Government as surplus generated from the conduct of its 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination ( UTME) .
Cumulatively , the board has remitted over N15 .6 billion to the Federal Government in less than two years .
Ogunyemi said by remitting N 7.8 billion to the Federal Government , as proceeds from UTME application forms in 2018, JAMB had become a revenue-generating agency.
He added that JAMB as a government agency was not set up for profit making, but to promote educational development of young Nigerians in pursuit of higher education and professional careers .
His words: “We said it last year when they said they remitted about N 5 billion, but this time around , it is remitting over N 7 billion; is JAMB now a profit making organisation? , he queried.
Ogunyemi accused the JAMB Registrar , Professor Ishaq Oloyede , of trying to use remittances as an avenue to create the impression that he was an icon of probity and integrity.
Speaking, President, National Association of Nigerian Students ( NANS ) , Danielson Bamidele , appealed to the Ministry of Education to reduce the cost of purchasing JAMB forms .
He said there was the need for JAMB to focus more in conducting a credible examination for students seeking admissions into tertiary institutions instead of the emphasis on remitting revenue to the Federal Government .
Bamidele also sought an extension of the validity of UTME results to at least three years .
Responding to ASUU ’s comments , JAMB Public Relations Officer ( PRO ) , Fabian Benjamin , said the remittance was made possible by the board ’s prudent management of resources.
The JAMB spokesman, who disclosed that UTME registration fee was one of the cheapest globally, however, assured Nigerians that it would not increase the fee in the next five to six years.

FamilySimple Tips To Enjoy Having A Roommate by Uranus1(op): 1:03am On Jul 25, 2018
Having to share your space with someone you barely know can be very challenging, especially for women. There is the fear of encroaching into each other’s space, bickering over property and completely unexplained nastiness.
However, having a roommate does not have to be the nightmare you envision it will be. Here is how:

1. Find similarities
To avoid any wahala, it is wiser to find a roommate who you have things in common with. Of course, you might not know all that there is to know about her before moving in but if you are observant, you will know a person with whom you share common values after little interaction. You two don’t have to be soulmates; just agree on basic stuff.

2. Be honest
It helps if you are upfront about pet peeves and expectations. Since you are just getting to know each other, it does not hurt to have a few ground rules.

3. Follow the Golden Rule
You have to consider the fact that you are not alone anymore so you must do unto your roommate as you want the person to do unto you. Set the right tone.

4. Respect your roommate:
If the individual tells you some of his/her boundaries then respect them, even if they don’t make sense to you. Also, respect the person property. Don’t assume that the individual doesn’t mind sharing stuffs with you. Ask first and apologize if you sense that you crossed their path.

5. Compromise
Be willing to compromise. Let go if it doesn’t hurt you. For example, if your roommate wants to leave the lights on at night then humor the individual except if you have medical reasons for preferring it off.
If two strangers followed these tips as roommates, there is no reason they won’t get along.

FamilyMyths About Adoption That Should Be Buried Once And For All by Uranus1(op): 2:29am On Jul 23, 2018
Adoption is still very much stigmatized, despite how many families grapple with infertility and the teeming number of children that desperately need a safe and loving home.
One would think that people would look at families that adopt with love and admiration but what we find is that people sideline the adopted children and make the adoptive parents feel less than real parents.
These forms of discrimination have spun myths such as the following and they have to stop.
1. Parents can never love their adopted children as much as their biological ones
They say blood is thicker than water but it's not just blood that determines strong affinity. People can bond based on experiences.
2. Real parents show up later
Though the movies make us assume this, in reality, it doesn't happen as often.
3. Letting the children know their biological parents will lead to trouble
In the event that the birth parents are known, allowing the children know about them hardly ever constitutes a problem. Rather, it gives them a true sense of their identity.
4. All adopted children are emotionally unstable
This is far from the truth. Some adopted children may have trouble adjusting but it all depends on individual experiences. It's not a given that adopted children are unstable.
If you are considering adopting a child, don't let the stigma stop you from doing so. Also, if have already adopted a child, remember that people will always have misguided notions on the matter. Insulate yourself emotionally against that. Seize ridiculous questions as moments to educate people and if you prefer, refer them to the right books and other materials that will enlighten them.

From colourful festivals to its world-renowned art and artifacts , here are the top things to see and do when in Benin City.
The capital city of Edo state, Benin City, has a long history of civilization and culture. The entire state of Edo was the location of one of Africa's oldest Empire's, the Benin Imperial Kingdom. Places to explore are fantastic, not far apart and not so expensive.
This article highlights the sights and sounds of the ancient majestic empire.
1. The Oba's Palace
The Royal Palace of the Oba of Benin is the most prestigious site in Benin and one of the most famous Royal Houses in the whole of Africa. The palace, built by Oba Ewedo (1255AD – 1280AD), is situated at the heart of ancient City of Benin. It was rebuilt by Oba Eweka II (1914 – 1932) after the 1897 war during which it was destroyed by the British. The palace was declared a UNESCO Listed Heritage Site in 1999. It is seen as a sacred site so it has its dos and don'ts — including no wearing of black, no whistling, no pointing at the Oba or his chiefs, etc.

2. The Benin Moat
The Benin Moat is an iconic monument in Nigeria. It is the largest man-made earthworks in the world that encircles the old perimeter precincts of the City. It was constructed as a defensive barrier in times of war. One of the wonders of the world, it predates the use of modern earth-moving equipment or technology in these parts.

3. Benin City National Museum
The Benin City National Museum was relocated to the public in 1973, as it was formerly in the Oba's Palace. It is home to a large number of Nigeria’s terracotta, bronze, and cast iron artefacts. The Museum contains priceless objects of antiquities from Benin Kingdom and other parts of the country. With 3 galleries, the museum is one of the largest museums in terms of indigenous artefacts in Nigeria.

4. Okomu National Park
Okomu National Park is the smallest of the forest reserves in Nigeria with a forest that covers only 1,082 sq km. It holds a small fragment of the rich forest that once covered the region, and is the last habitat for many endangered species. One can find buffaloes, red river hogs, chimpanzees, leopards, bush baby, putty nosed guenon, porcupine, pangolins, duikers, and antelopes at the park. It is also a sanctuary for the white-throated monkey, one of the rarest in the world.

5. Igun Street
Igun-Eronmwon quarters is one of Benin City’s most visited tourist attractions as the home of the brass/bronze casting industries in Benin. It is also listed as one of the UNESCO Cultural Heritage sites. Tourists stop by to buy artifacts and trinkets.

6. Igue Festival
Igue festival is celebrated between Christmas and New Year. It includes the Oba's blessing of the land and his people. The festival originated as a celebration to renew Oba Ewuare's magical powers. During the Igue ritual season, the Oba is prohibited from being in the presence of any non-native person.

7. Egedege N'Okaro
The Egedege N'Okaro is regarded as the first storey-building in Benin Kingdom, built in 1906, by High Chief Osawe Iyamu, the then Inne of Benin. This also makes it the second oldest story-building in Nigeria after the first one at Badagry, Lagos built in 1845 by white missionaries. Egedege N' Okaro is situated at House No 30, Erie Street, off Sakponba Road,in ancient city of Benin.

8. Kada Plaza

HealthFour Ways To Outsmart Breast Cancer by Uranus1(op): 12:04pm On Jul 21, 2018
It is easier for women with certain risk factors are more likely than others to develop breast cancer . However , by making certain lifestyle changes , staying up to dates with tests and taking immediate action if you feel a lump in your breast , you can improve your odds against the disease .

Stop smoking
Cigarette smoke is a threat to breast health , the earlier you pick up the habit, the greater the damage . If a girl starts smoking in her teenage years , her breast cancer risk is 50 percent higher for the rest of her life . Second -hand smoke also contributes to breast cancer .

Be physically active
Physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight , which , in turn, helps prevent breast cancer. For most healthy adults, health and wellness enthusiasts recommend at least 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity , 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity weekly, or walking for a distance at least twice a week .

Limit alcohol
The more alcohol you drink , the greater your risk of developing breast cancer. The National Cancer Institute recommends limiting yourself to less than one drink per day as even small amounts increase the risk . Red wine has been said to be a cancer fighter because it contains antioxidants . However , when it comes to avoiding breast cancer, the risks of drinking red wine and all other alcoholic beverages may outweigh the benefits .

Consider breastfeeding
There is significant data that women who consistently breastfeed for the first 6 months have a 10 % reduced risk of death from cancer . This is because a woman does not menstruate while breastfeeding . This limits the number of cycles she has over a lifetime and lowers the amount of estrogen to which her body is exposed.

FoodHow To Make Your Own Pap/ogi/akamu by Uranus1(op): 2:03am On Jul 19, 2018
Pap is Nigerian corn meal made from wet corn starch.
Akamu (Igbo), Ogi (Yoruba) or Pap is processed from dry white or yellow corn. After processing from scratch, the raw akamu/pap/ogi is then prepared with hot water before serving as a meal.
Ingredients
1.5kg dry corn
Lots of water

Preparation
1. Wash the dry corn thoroughly and soak in a generous quantity of cold water for 3 to 4 days.

2. Wash the corn and change the water daily.

3. The corn has to be very soft so bite into it to check, if not soak for one more day. When adequately soft, wash and blend till smooth. Use a lot of water to blend.

4. Drape a washed chiffon cloth over a big bowl and tie it up.

5. Sieve the blend, rinsing, till only the chaff is left.

6. When done, take off the chiffon cloth and set the mixture of water and akamu aside to settle for at least 3 hours.

7. When the water looks clear, decant the clear water and pour the rest of the mixture into the cleaned muslin bag.

8. Tie the bag and keep it in such a way as to let the water drain from the ogi. When it seems the water has drained off, tie the bag tighter and leave to continue draining the water. Repeat the process as the water drains till no more water drains off. You can add some weights to drain the last traces of water.

9. Do not refrigerate. Leave overnight so the akamu can acquire the signature sour taste.
Your akamu is ready to be cut into chunks and stored. It is eaten by mixing with little cold water and followed with very hot water, served with
moin moin or akara (bean cakes).

Romance5 Reasons Why Women Are Scared Of Commitment by Uranus1(op): 1:13am On Jul 19, 2018
Though men are more likely to say no to serious relationship commitments, women are also not exempted from the fear of commitment.
The end goal of many relationships is often marriage, settling down, or cohabitation, depending on which one suits both partners. No matter how the relationship started- with or without a clear indication of this intention – a time will come in the relationship when a deeper level of commitment will be required; when one or both partners will demand something more from the relationship and if one partner feels he or she is not ready, the relationship faces the possibility of breaking apart.

Though men are more likely to say no to serious relationship commitments, experience has shown that women are not exempted from the fear of commitment; and in the situations where this happens, here are some of the reasons why women run:
1. Unresolved issues
Sometimes, women are comfortable with the level of their relationship and want nothing more because they are at a phase of building themselves, moving on from unhealed pains from the past, and generally coming to terms with stuff in their lives. Adding the extra commitment to a relationship might be too much to handle at that time, and it is common to hear such women say stuff like “I’m not ready.”

2. Uncertainties
When a man proposes moving to the next phase of a relationship and the girl refuses, the reason could be because she still has reservations, fears, worries, uncertainties about the guy. Sometimes it’s about the man, not the woman.

3. Someone better
Some other women would refuse to commit to their partner because they are holding out for someone better – in loving, finances, etc - to come along.

4. Exes
Being hung over an ex is what prevents certain other women from pledging more commitment to their present relationship.
Some babes use a certain boyfriend as a standard for all others and no matter how long it takes, or how many relationships they enter, they still remain tied to that former ex and keep hoping that he comes back.
Some women belong in this category and if there is any faint hope of that boyfriend coming back, they’ll keep everything on hold – including their present relationship with you – and wait for him.

5. She's playing
Best believe that there are ladies who refuse to commit because they’ve been in the relationship all along to only catch cruise, have fun, maybe spend your money, enjoy the sex and commit to absolutely nothing.

RomanceFive Signs That Your Partner Doesn’t Respect You by Uranus1(op): 12:55am On Jul 19, 2018
Sometimes you don’t need to be relationship experts to notice the obvious signs of a disrespectful partner but often times we allow our emotions to cloud our judgments .
There ’ s a popular misconception that respect between romantic partners means to control, meeting demands or submission . Respect , however , is the admiration for one another and the ability to understand that other people may view life differently than you. Seeing them for who they are and what their beliefs and rather than trying to mould them into what we think they should be defined as respect .
Here are five signs of a disrespectful partner ;

They Don ’ t Listen To You
Having someone who can listen to you at your best and worst moments in life is one of the essentials of a relationship so also is being an active and attentive listener.
When you start to feel as though your partner is constantly giving you a lesser than average amount of attention or shows little interest when talking to you even , then that may be a sign that they don’t respect you enough.

They Lie to You
Honesty and openness are underrated in the modern day relationship. An early sign or indicator of a disrespectful partner is one that constantly lies about trivial things as being open and honest with your partner is one of the building blocks of any healthy relationship.
Lying to your partner makes them feel as though they don ’t deserve to know the truth and this is not the best feeling.

They Don ’ t Prioritize You
Noone ever wants to be the second option in any scenario which is why it is necessary to always consider your partner when making plans and not as an afterthought . If your partner doesn’t seem to care about making or keeping plans with you,or if your partner constantly prefers to spend time with friends rather than with you, then that’s a major sign of disrespect . Also showing up late to dinners , events or even cancelling at last minute could be a sign of disrespect .

They Give You The Silent Treatment

These new experiences and memories give you energy and even help improve upon your love life .
Here is our list of outdoor activities you can enjoy with a loved one:

With beautiful beaches around Lagos and numerous hiking trails in Nigeria , why not take a walk arm in arm, exploring the countryside. Such walks can be very therapeutic and provide a good opportunity for you to explore your surroundings afresh .

Street photography
Photography is a great way to reduce stress and gain a newfound appreciation for the world around you. You don’t have to be a professional or have a professional DSLR camera ; a phone will do just fine.

Walking
Even if your loved one can ’ t walk far , a simple stroll can do wonders for their physical and mental health . A short or long walk along your street or park gives a good room for both of you to have meaningful discussion and, at the same time , get fit.

Bird watching
First , buy binoculars and then enjoy the view of beautiful birds from a park or a game reserve . You can also buy a birds- identification guidebook .
