Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson recently joined the plethora of celebrity couples when they announced their engagement after only a few weeks of dating . This speedy engagement has led fans to believe that their relationship may be moving too fast . While people make getting married so irresistible, you need to understand that getting married is more than a wedding and you should not rush it! Here are four reasons why you should not rush into getting engaged : They threaten to leave If your lover keeps persuading you to get engaged when you are not ready , they probably do not care for you enough to wait until you are ready. So if they threaten to leave, consider yourself spared . All your friends are getting married Peer pressure is one of the hardest things to live with or resist . But your friends getting married is not a valuable reason to rush into an engagement . Everyone is different. Being commensurate with your relationship is one of the worst things to do. More often than not , people who get engaged based on comparison and self -fulfilment make the wrong choice , leading to a broken marriage. God -sanctioned sex If you are somewhat religious and your religion or culture frowns on sex before marriage, do not rush into marriage because of sex . This is definitely something you will regret. True love waits ; you should too . Cutting costs Being engaged means getting married and getting married means living together . Living together means sharing expenses , which means cutting costs . As thrifty as it seems, cutting costs this way is the most terrible reason to be engaged or to get married . If you need to cut costs on accommodation , get a roommate until you are ready for marriage. https://www.nigerialog.com/romance/four-terrible-reasons-to-get-engaged/ |
Smartphones are one of the biggest inventions of the 20 th century . With a smartphone , the electronic transaction is only a click away . Yet , there are health implications that come with it. The radio frequency energy that is transmitted from it might be hazardous to the health . There are suggestions that placing it close to the ear has long -term danger . People who have ear problems or headaches are sensitive to radiations that come from the phone emission. US cancer epidemiologist , Dr Devra Davis, in her book , Disconnect ( 2010) linked longterm use to cancer and brain tumour such as glioma . She warned that children are twice exposed to the risk of radiation than adults . However , Dr Ken Karipidis , spokesperson for Australian Radiation Protection Nuclear and Safety Authority ( ARPANSA ) has said that “ There is no established evidence that RF radiation from tablets and phones and Wi- Fi causes health effects ”. Regardless , medical practitioners recommend the six -inches rule . To take caution , do the following: Avoid a crowded place Reduce time -spent on the phone especially when downloading or streaming . Avoid placing a call when the signal is weak because the radiation might be stronger . Heed the instructions of the manufacturer . Each product has a distance that should be kept . Best still , use a headphone . If possible, always use the speaker. That way , the phone is not close to your ear. https://www.nigerialog.com/health/is-placing-a-phone-against-your-ear-hazardous/ |
Self -medication in Nigeria is not much of a big deal. From malaria medicine to the cure -all paracetamol tablets that treat anything from a mild headache to a raging fever and hallucinations, we are used to going to the local pharmacy to buy drugs . Hospitals have become the last resort . It is the common opinion that those in the hospital have one foot in the grave and their entire family is praying for their safe delivery from the jaws of death. Asides painkillers, malaria medication and blood tonics , the next self -prescribed favourites are antibiotics . When all else fails, antibiotics comes to the rescue . From different brands of penicillin to tetracycline, erythromycin and the reigning queen of the lot, Ciproflaxin , we consider all our health needs covered . Pimples , the flu and the smallest ill - advised itch don’ t stand a chance . But a lot of people are unaware of the dangers that accrue from the abuse of these lifesaving medicines. One of the foremost concerns in modern medicine is antibiotic resistance , caused mainly by antibiotic misuse as bacteria become resistant to medications that would ordinarily kill them . Antibiotics also kill the “good bacteria ” in the in the gut known as gut flora that supports immunity and proper digestion . Antibiotics affect the PH levels of the vagina by killing of the protective bacteria , thus leaving women vulnerable to vaginal infections, especially yeast infections . There is actually such a thing as too much of a good thing and antibiotics take centre stage . A simple trip to the hospital and a test can confirm if antibiotics are the proper recourse or not. Making a conscious effort to reduce your intake of antibiotics can ensure not just proper bodily functions , but also the preservation of the integrity of antibiotics for generations to come . https://www.nigerialog.com/health/consequences-of-self-prescribing-antibiotics/new/#new |
Toners serve the function of restoring the skin’s pH, healing the acid mantle of the skin, and promoting the health of the skin. We use toners after cleansing the face, and before moisturizing. Some of these toners are multifunctional as both cleansers and toners. Oily skin needs toners that will help to regulate the skin’s sebum while keeping the skin moisturized and aerated. The best toners are: Apple cider vinegar: ACV is famed for being a great toner and makeup remover. Lemon juice: Lemon juice is very effective as an astringent, and so would be a great toner. Dilute with a little water, as it can be a bit harsh. It has the great side benefit of fading dark marks and skin blemishes. Witch hazel: Witch hazel is a great toner, an astringent, and helps to prevent breakouts and ease sebum production. Aloe Vera juice: Aloe Vera juice is mild, a great moisturizer, and heals deeply. In fact, this would probably be my favorite on this list. It is very gentle (and so doesn’t sting), healing and soothing to the skin, and deeply moisturizes. You have to have at least one of the great toners on this list, for the best skin. https://www.nigerialog.com/beauty/best-natural-toners-for-oily-skin/new/#new |
You may not realize you are spending too much on what you eat, but check these five signs to know if you are wasting money on foods. Is there anyone who doesn't spend money on food? None, right? We all spend money on what we eat just to maintain life and growth. Since food is essential for living, someone might think no amount of money spent on food can be too much. Well, that's not true. It is possible to overspend on food. But how do you know if you are spending too much money on food? Your answers are not far-fetched. Here are five signs that show you are spending too much on food. 1. You never have food at home Not always having food at home only prompts you to eat out every time, and the more you eat out the more money you spend on food. Don't even think eating out helps you to spend less. That's absolutely not true. Anything you buy at eateries will surely be more expensive than cooking your own food at home. 2. You throw out half your food If you are constantly throwing away leftovers, you should be reminded how much you have throwing away. This mostly happens in families that enjoy bulk buying to save money » . Bulk buying is honestly a good idea, but if at the end of the day most of the food ends up in the trash bin, the essence of buying your food bulk will be defeated ...and you end up wasting the money you are trying to save. 3. Your fridge is full of spoilt food If you have to throw some foods away each time you open your fridge, it means you are overbuying and creating waste. Next time, when you go to grocery stores, you need to reduce the quantity of the perishable foods you buy. 4. Your whole social life happens in restaurants Eating out with friends and family is cool, it gives you a relaxing experience. You'll always enjoy their company while you chat over some plate of Jollof and drinks. However, that enjoyment does not come free. While it is good to do this once in a while, you really don't have to make it a lifestyle as your trip to restaurants with friends will sooner or later affect your personal finance. » So, instead of always wasting your money on food just to have a nice time with your friends, you can come up with a new and creative way to bring them together without spending money on foods and drinks. You guys can go for a walk, go to the gym together or organize a simple get-together at each other's home. 5. You buy food to feel better Aha! When some people are down, they only come alive when they eat. See, this is a spending trap you must learn to avoid if you are one of such people. This will only prompt you to spend money on food all the time because this always make you think eating is the solution to any challenge you have. https://www.nigerialog.com/business/5-signs-you-are-spending-too-much-money-on-food/new/#new |
If you have always bought things without planning for them, you need these three tips to control your spending. Do you go to stores and you feel like buying everything you set your eyes on? Yes, this happens to everyone who likes good things, but hey, you've got to think twice before you say: How much is this? Impulse buying is a tendency to buy a product or service without planning in advance. It plays with your mind and a want becomes a need in a matter of seconds. For every impulse spender, suppressing the temptation to buy everything when you go shopping is important if you want to save money. If you find it difficult to defeat that temptation, try these simple tips. 1. Use Cash Only A lot of people buy things they don't need on credit or debit card. Using your debit card only makes you spend more on items you'll later find useless. Before going to any store, make a list of what you want to buy, find out the prices of the items and go to the store with cash only. 2. Delay Purchases Before letting your impulse determines your purchases, you may need to wait a little bit, think about that item before buying it. Thinking about it could remove the initial emotional reasons that stirred the buying decision. 3. Stay away from temptation If your impulse always prompts you to make a wrong buying decision, you'll have to avoid all forms of temptation that will lead to making such decision. For instance, if browsing online shopping site or following a friend to a shopping mall will tempt you to make unplanned buying decisions, it is better you avoid them. https://www.nigerialog.com/business/impulsive-spenders-these-simple-tips-will-help-you-avoid-unnecessary-spending/new/#new |
Nigeria's music history, women have played a significant part. Female musicians and singers have contributed greatly to the growth of the music scene. While there is a tendency to glorify mainly men in the music industry, it is high time we start to praise Nigerian artists for their great contributions. Today, Pulse Music presents the '10 greatest albums made by Nigerian women'. This list is in no particular order; 1) African Woman by Onyeka Onwenu (Ayollo Records/1987) The Elegant Stallion Onyeka Onwenu is perhaps Nigeria's greatest female singer. The former journalist and actress became a household name in the 80s thanks to a steady release of good albums. While picking out her best effort is no easy task, all arrows point to her 1986 album titled ' One Love '. The album features one of Nigeria's most famous songs ' One Love ', and also the romantic classic ' You & I ' which was revived over a decade later to be the soundtrack of the Nollywood hit movie ' Conspiracy '. Another great song from this body of work is the disco-influenced, Igbo smash hit 'Bia Nulu'. Oh we can't forget ' Ekwe '. 2) Happy Birthday by Evi Edna Ogholi (Polydor/1988) In the late 80's, Nigeria was engulfed by Reggae invasion. Standing tall in the midst of the genre's legends such as Ras Kimono , Oritz Wiliki and Majek Fashek was Evi Edna Ogholi. She was (and still remains) Nigeria's reggae queen. Her career profile is littered with success after success. Prolific, Evi Edna Ogholi released three albums in two years. Her third album released under Polydor 'Happy Birthday' is one of the most famous albums in Nigeria. The album featured the classic title track as well as smash tunes such as ' Ririovara (Dry Your Tears) ' and ' Message To The Youth '. Happy Birthday was insanely popular as it was played beyond Nigeria. 3) ASA by Asa (Naive Records/2008) A decade old, Asa's soulful debut effort still sounds flawless. In a pop crazy and male-dominated scene, Asa bet on herself and created an elegant masterpiece. The album easily is one of the best albums made by a Nigerian woman. It even transcends gender and genre as it is one of the best albums produced by a Nigerian ever. Asa gave the soul genre a slot in Nigeria's musical place. It is both peerless and timeless. 4) Ever Liked My Person by Christy Essien Igbokwe (Lagos International Records/1981) Also known as Nigeria's lady of songs, the late Christy Essien Igbokwe has nine albums in her discography. The legendary singer's grandest effort is the album 'Ever Liked My Person'. Released in 1981 under Lagos International Records, Christy Essien Igbokwe delivered a hot album that boasts of the evergreen ' Seun Rere ', her most famous song. The track itself has come to define her career with those familiar warm horns and emotionally laden voice. 5) Horizon Unlimited by Lijadu Sisters (Afrodisia/1979) At the golden age of psychedelic rock music in Nigeria you will find The Lijadu Sisters. Made up of identical twins Taiwo and Kehinde, the duo were the Amazons of the counter-cultural, edgy and punk music that stole the scene in the 70s. Their album Horizon Unlimited is a stellar example of the trippy, psychedelic and rebellious music if their generation. The legacy of that album is the classic song ' Orere Elejigbo ', a delicious song sang in their native Yoruba tongue. The album, a mix of groovy elements and traditional Yoruba instruments, was released towards the end of the rock era when disco was about to take over. It would be a great parting shot for the movement. 6) Greenland by TY Bello (North Avenue/2008) TY Bello who was formerly of the gospel crew Kush released her debut album in 2008. The body was an extension of the cool and minty brand of gospel music pushed by Kush . ' The Land is green ' oozed of optimism and positivity while the single ' Ekundayo ' is a classic gospel tune dedicated to the matriarch Mama Janet Ekundayo . 7) Love Nwantinti by Nelly Uchendu (Homzy Records/1976) Nelly Uchendu released her album in conjunction with Mike Obianwu and it was an instant smash. The highly-centric Igbo LP was a success thanks to the single 'Love Nwantinti ' The song has survived the times to still remain as one of the evergreen love songs Nigeria has produced. Angeli Mi by Tope Alabi (NPC Records/2007)Tope Alabi is easily the most prolific Nigerian singer. In a career that has spanned close to two decades, she is the voice behind the soundtracks of hundreds of Yoruba movies. From the early 00s to the late 00s, Tope Alabi virtually sang the soundtrack for almost all the major Yoruba movies. She has 14 albums to her name and 'Angeli Mi' is her standout body of work. Featuring hit tracks like ‘ Mimo L’Oluwa (Medley) , ‘Nigbati Mo Ro ’ became Gospel hit records in the South-Western part of the country. Tope Alabi's unique way of delivering spiritual Yoruba songs makes her one of the biggest and most consistent gospel singers in the land. 9) I Want To Feel Your Love by Oby Onyioha (Time/1981) This is an album that highlights the disco craze in Nigeria of the 80s. Oby Onyioha vocals backed with space synths helped make the album a success in Nigeria. It is one of the best works of the disco genre in the country. Apart from disco, it also had sounds of boogie, funk and soul. Onyioha would not release another album until 2015 when she dropped Heritage. 10) Late General Murtala Ramat Mohammed by Queen Salawa Abeni (Leader Records/1976) Not only did this woman step into the male-dominated scene of Fuji, she ruled the sub-genre wack. Queen Salawa Abeni was a prodigy. She started singing at a very young age. Her debut album was a tribute to the late military head of state (other sources would state that her debut was an album called Iba Agba). One thing is sure about her tribute album- Salawa Abeni's style of waka caught on like fire and according to reports, it became the first album by a female artist who sang in Yoruba to sell over a million copies. https://www.nigerialog.com/music-radio/here-are-the-10-greatest-albums-made-by-nigerian-women/new/#new |
Arthritis is a disorder of the joint ( s) characterised by inflammation and presents with pain and swelling. There are several different types of arthritis . The commonest types are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis . Signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis Typically , osteoarthritis begins as a dull ache in the affected joint , which increases as time progresses . The pain is usually more severe after the affected joint has been put into use. The joint may become swollen and tender. Stiffness of the joint is also a common symptom . The stiffness is more severe if the joint has been rested for sometime or after waking up from sleep . Risk factors associated with osteoarthritis Age Arthritis is commoner in older individuals than the younger ones. It is a chronic disease , which takes a long time to manifest. Osteoarthritis seen in younger individuals is usually due to trauma . Gender Arthritis affects both men and women but it is more frequently seen in women than men . However , before the age of 45 years it is more often seen in men. Obesity This is an important risk factor in that osteoarthritis tends to affect the weight bearing joints more . In the case of an obese individual therefore, the knees , hips and spine are more frequently affected . Injury to the joint or over utilization of a joint The risk of osteoarthritis increases as a result of a traumatic injury to a joint . Also a joint that is more frequently used as in sportsmen and women or at work will be more susceptible to osteoarthritis than others . Wrong alignment of joints An individual with bowlegs , knocking knees or a dislocated hip may more likely develop arthritis in those affected joints than others that are better aligned. Heredity A history of arthritis in a family may increase the risk of arthritis in members of such a family . Cause( s) of arthritis ( osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis ) According to orthodox medicine, the causes of these two conditions are unknown. The risk factors of osteoarthritis have already been listed above . Concerning rheumatoid arthritis , genetic and environmental factors have been sited as possible predisposing factors . Be that as it may, proponents of dehydration as the cause of the chronic degenerative diseases are agreed that it is also the cause of arthritis . Here is a brief account of how this happens The human body is 75 per cent water ( 65 per cent in women ) and this amount of water is distributed in the intra and extra cellular fluid spaces . The different compartments of the body ( the eyeball , spinal canal , the liver , the joints etc.) have an optimal amount of water allocated to them for their proper functioning . In this , the joint spaces are not left out . In fact, for the cartilage in the joints to glide frictionlessly against each other , there is an optimum amount of water that should be present there . Anything below this level will increase the friction and cause the cartilage covering the two bones in the joint to rub against each other . As this happens the individual will begin to experience a slight ache in the joint . Dehydration, a condition brought about by not drinking sufficient water , is usually reflected in all the compartments of the body, one way or another . In a state of dehydration , the body goes into a redistribution mode so as to supply enough water to such organs as the brain , heart , liver , lungs and kidneys . These are the five vital organs of the body that cannot stand dehydration . In order to survive, water is redirected from the rest of the body, including the joints to those vital organs . The consequence is that the rest of the body suffers from lack of sufficient water for their functions . In the case of the joints this is seen as arthritis and it manifests at the point of weakest link or an area suffering from highest regional dehydration . https://www.nigerialog.com/health/managing-arthritis-with-herbs-and-water-part-1/msg45252/#msg45252 |
You really are not ready for a serious relationship or marriage until you have fallen in line with the requirement explained here. You may think you are ready for a relationship because people around you are catching the love bug and getting hitched every other Saturday, but getting to that phase requires more than desire. Of course relationships often begin with attraction and a willingness to act on that attraction till it blossoms into a relationship. But it surely takes more than attraction and willingness to get into that relationship. More importantly, it takes more than attraction to make the relationship work as it should, and also last forever. You do not need only one thing to know if you are ready to date and responsibly fall in love. Relationship needs are multiple and until you have traits such as patience, an ability to communicate effectively and rightly, a willingness to compromise, an abundant desire to do your part and put in the required effort, an open-mind, a heart of commitment and devotion, an ability to forgive and overlook, as well as emotional intelligence among many other things, then you really can’t even begin to think you are actually ready for a serious relationship. Self discovery is what you need. When you have that, you are almost ready. Note that one does not need to be 100% at all these things because perfection isn't really a goal for many people, but something pretty close and a willingness to keep growing is very desirable for most people. Apart from all this though, one thing is more important, more necessary and really too significant to be left behind when heading into a relationship, and that is self-discovery. To not know yourself and your vision, to not have an idea of where your life and plans are headed is not a problem you want to involve someone else in. Until you have gone on that voyage of self discovery and gotten, at least, a vague idea of yourself, you really should not be dating anyone yet. Self discovery is what determines to a large extent, the direction your life takes, and even the kind of choice you make. Why self-discovery is important Self-discovery is a door that leads to many things such as self-love, personal core values, future direction, plans, life goals, etc. The first thing you want to do as a man or woman is to know what you are putting out there for people to fall in love with. Also you want to know enough so you can look for someone who will complement you and all that pertains to your existence; someone whose dreams can be merged or, at least, ride alongside yours without a head-on collision. No one is asking you to have become familiar with 100% of your soul yet because, for real, when you are still young and growing, discovery is still pretty an evolving process. However knowing just enough about your strengths, weaknesses, skills, talents, abilities and all that stuff is really necessary. Know your proclivities, your tendencies, things you can’t put up with, things you can’t do without, things you struggle with, things you have mastered, wishes you have, goals you have set and so on and so forth. You really are not ready for a relationship until you have fallen in line with this requirement spelled above. https://www.nigerialog.com/romance/this-is-how-to-know-you-are-not-ready-for-a-relationship/new/#new |

The Nigerian Communications Commission has begun the process for the transfer of the licence of Visafone Communications Limited to digital mobile operator, MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, investigation has shown. It was gathered that the transfer of Visafone’s licence would also involve the transfer of its frequencies to MTN. Towards this goal, the regulatory agency confirmed through its spokesperson, Mr. Tony Ojobo, that it would hold a public forum in Abuja next Monday on the transfer of the resources belonging to Visafone to MTN. In an industry realignment, MTN had acquired 100 per cent stake in Visafone, one of the frontrunners in the provision of telecommunication services deploying the Code Division Multiple Access technology, which is more in use in the United States than Europe. Although the transaction was approved by the NCC as required by the law, the regulatory agency later issued a statement clarifying that the transfer of the shares of Visafone to MTN did not automatically mean the transfer of the licence and frequency to the mobile operator. Ojobo had stated that a decision had yet to taken on the transfer of the licence from Visafone to MTN Nigeria after the acquisition of the Visafone shareholding by the latter. He had said, “A decision to transfer the Visafone licence to MTN has not yet been taken. What has been approved in the transaction is 100 per cent shareholding and not the licence. “The NCC’s final approval to the changes in shareholding of Visafone Communications was taken by virtue of Section 38 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003. Section 38 of the Act states that ‘the grant of a licence shall be personal to the licensee and the licence shall not be operated by, assigned, sub-licensed or transferred to any other party unless the prior written approval of the commission has been granted’. “This clarification has become necessary in order to allay the fears in some quarters that the frequency has been withheld by the commission.” He added, “Specifically, Visafone Communications Limited, with a Universal Access Service Licence deploying CDMA technology, applied to the NCC for an approval to effect a change in its shareholding structure by transferring 100 per cent of its shares to MTN Nigeria. “Having met all the preliminary requirements for the grant of approval for change in shareholding structure, the NCC, in line with its established procedure, granted an approval-in-principle to Visafone Communications Limited, subject to the fulfilment of conditions to transfer 100 per cent of its shares to MTN Nigeria. “Having fulfilled the conditions stipulated in the approval-in-principle, the NCC, in line with its procedure, granted a final approval to Visafone for the change in its shareholding structure.” https://www.nigerialog.com/business/ncc-begins-frequency-transfer-from-visafone-to-mtn/ |
People say when you fall in love, you put your heart at risk. Although many people can relate to this saying, it shouldn’t be. Falling in love is one of the most beautiful things on the planet. Knowing that you are loved can literally transform your life and give you strength to do things you never knew you could. Yet, your mind can entertain mixed signals when you are uncertain that your partner loves you as much as you do. Often times, men are scared of committing not because they do not want to but a lot of thought that goes into the relationship. In this regard, they consider if they are mental, physically and financially fit and if it is you they really want. He can continue to treat you like the girlfriend you have always wanted to be but will not want an exclusive relationship. This gesture is enough to make you question your relationship status for years. To avoid this headache, go unconventional. Ask him what he wants in a gentle and loving manner. Let him know that you can move on if he is not ready to take it a bit further. We know you have heard that it is not in the woman’s place to ask important questions like this. But the times are changing. You have to define what your relationship so that you prevent heartaches or have your beautiful love story. It will also make you understand and see the truth of what he thinks of your “relationship”. If you do not want to ask, ask with your actions. Don’t know how? Get involved in an activity that does not include him. It could be a sporting activity or a vacation. If he really loves you, he’d want to be involved in things that you are interested in especially if he knows that there will be other men available. You might be scared that you will lose him but if you begin to think that one wants to forgo what they cherish, you’d appreciate this stance altogether. Why wait when you need the truth? https://www.nigerialog.com/romance/how-to-help-a-man-make-up-his-mind/ |

The origin of theatre in Nigeria can be traced back to the 18 th century with the emergence of court jesters in royal settings all over the regions. There were rampant displays of traditional masquerades and cultural troupes which added theatrical performances to their craft and provided cultural balance to the scale of tradition . It was also an avenue to savour important comic relief for the people . The “Gelede Masquerade” in Yoruba land was synonymous with satire and comic approaches to significant issues in the society. The Igbo Agbaasa Masquerade was known for inducing laughter and, at the same time, creating socio - cultural awareness and education. This is not forgetting the “Yankamanci” craft of the famous Hausa minstrels who specialised in comedy , the “Eyo Masquerade of Lagos ” and so on and so forth . All these formed the bedrock of what later became the theatre in Nigeria . The dawn of the early 20 th century saw the active participation of notable theatre practitioners like Chief Hubert Ogunde , who formed one of the first indigenous travelling theatre companies . Ogunde evolved and transformed his arts into film production . The innovative and cultural prowess of Duro Ladipo in his quest for portraying legend of the famous Alaafin of Oyo and Sango eventually became a god on stage when he successfully breathed fire and smoke while performing his famous play Oba K’oso at the Berlin festival 1965. The incredible works of icons like Kola Ogunmola, Moses Olaiya( Baba Sala) and Ade Love also come to mind . Later on , the emergence of notable playwrights and literary giants such as Wole Soyinka , J .P Clarke , Christopher Okigbo, Nkem Nwankwo, Ola Rotimi and Chinua Achebe stamped Nigeria on the map of world literary excellence . The theatre world wasn’ t left out in the remarkable impact either . The formation of The Mbari Centre in Ibadan gave birth to a new school of theatre juggernauts whose massive influence spread across the country . Theatre was taking the centre stage locally and internationally . The advent of the military regimes saw a clampdown on theatre practitioners and writers who were at the forefront in the struggle for democratic governance . Thus , when the nation returned to democracy in 1999, it ushered in many dividends including untrammelled theatre practices. The later years would see the rise of private participation in the Nigeria Theatre and arts scenes with the arrival of new arts centres dotting the landscapes particularly in Lagos like Terra Kulture . CHARMS LTD also came on board and showed exactly what had been missing within the sphere when it sponsored and staged D.O Fagunwa ’s iconic Ogboju Ode at the Muson Centre . These and many more undertakings resurrected the spirit of theatre in Nigeria . The number of theatre and art lovers in the country has tripled from what it used to be in the early 90 s. Yet , there are limited spaces for performances , making most theatre companies financially unstable since their outings are restricted . Notwithstanding , it is obvious that , over the years , the theatre has played a leading role in uniting the country . Most importantly , it has been at the centre of socio -economic development. Although the future looks bleak and bright at the same time for theatre in Nigeria , all we can do is to keep striving and making every performance count. For the sake of the arts, the show must go on !!! https://www.nigerialog.com/culture/reviving-theatre-in-nigeria-the-show-must-go-on!/new/#new |
Research has even shown that there are MORE chemicals in perfume and cologne than in cigarette smoke. As odd as this may sound, especially if you’re hearing it for the first time, perfumes are not good for you because they are made of cacogenic substances that make them hazardous to your health. Call it a perfume, cologne, toilette or whatever, the truth is we've all being victimized by it. How? Do you remember having a headache or sneezing badly, because of someone else perfume? Yes, the perfume was so strong that regardless of how you tried you couldn't resist the fragrance, right? Well, it happened because you’re inhaling potential toxins and harmful substances that are causing a reaction in your body. And as weird as this may sound, it is potentially just as bad as "second-hand smoke". Research has even shown that there are MORE chemicals in perfume and cologne than in cigarette smoke. And as a matter of fact, each puff of cigarette smoke has 250 chemicals while perfume and cologne can have up to 3000 different chemicals that make up a signature scent. It is, however, important to state here that about 95 percent of the chemicals used in fragrances are synthetic, petroleum-based compounds. And it usual for these chemicals to cause allergic reactions like sneezing, itchy watery eyes, wheezing and headaches. Also fragrance can exacerbate asthma, environmental illness (EI) and migraines. According to the findings of an investigation into fragrances, perfumes, and colognes by the Environmental Working Group (EWG): 16 percent of the reviewed products contained ingredients that may cause cancer 5 percent may contain harmful impurities linked to cancer or other health problem 18 percent contained penetration enhancers that increase exposures to carcinogens and other ingredients of concern 98 percent of products contained ingredients not assessed for safety in cosmetics or with insufficient data 76 percent contained ingredients that are allergens 13 percent of products posed other potential health concern. How to smell nice without perfume? 1. Buy an essential oil (your favourite scent from the health food store) and dilute it with a carrier oil, like almond oil. 2. Spread coconut oil on your body after you shower. It will give you an appealing scent and make you smell like the beach. 3. Convince yourself to go fragrance-free and let your natural scent (ie. pheromones) attract others to you because pheromones actually have a biological purpose -- to attract the opposite sex. Sounds funny, right? Here's what you can do if you're disturbed by fragrance If you’re one of the many people that feel ill when exposed to fragrances, it is advisable for you to opt for fragrance-free varieties of all your personal care items, or at least choosing products that don't contain synthetic fragrance. You should also inform your family members and friends, especially your co-worker, who wear perfumes that upset your system that you’re reacting to the chemicals in their perfume/cologne, etc. Do this politely for a positive result; however, if they refuse to oblige, continue to tell them politely until they do. https://www.nigerialog.com/health/here-is-why-you-should-think-twice-before-using-a-perfume-23197/new/#new |

Located in North Central Africa Republic are the Azandes . Until the 20 th century , this ethnic group was highly respected as warriors and for their witchcraft. Their belief in witchcraft and their Benge oracle determined their life ’s outcomes . It was such that when a termite -infested door fell and killed eight men , they blamed it on witchcraft. The Azande people experienced a shortage of women , causing the available women to be given to the rich. Due to this , if a man had an interest in a boy between the ages of 12 and 20 , he paid a bride price of five spears to have him . Fornication with a bachelor ( aparanga) meant mutilation or payment of twenty spears and a woman . English anthropologist , E .E Evans-Pritchard states in his book Witchcraft , Oracles and Magic Among the Azande and his essay Sexual Inversion among the Azande that the boy would become his lover ( badiare ) . The lover will , in turn , perform wifely roles of cooking , cleaning , keeping the house warm , speaking softly, making the bed and sexually satisfying the husband ( kumbami) . This satisfaction came when the husband places his penis between the “boy wife ’s” thighs . This , they believed , will prevent them from desiring another man ’s wife . Having a boy wife does not stop a man from getting married to a woman. This is because the service of the boy wife is mainly needed when the men go to wars . A high ranking man is allowed to have more than one boy wife . Also , the death of a royal man means the burial of his boy wife. When a boy wife becomes a man , his husband gives him spears and shields . If the husband treats the boy wife well , his parents will thank him by offering a girl to the husband as a wife. https://www.nigerialog.com/culture/in-azande-tribe-boys-become-wives/new/#new |
As dreadful and abominable the act of terminating one’s life in Africa is , it is indeed horrendous that the contemporary Nigerian youths find suicide as a soothing healer of depression .Young people ’s inability to manage frustration and despair seems to be on the rise with the government, parents and schools doing little or nothing to avert the monstrous act .Some weeks ago, Nigerians woke to the news of a teenage girl who allegedly committed suicide in Rumuokoro community , Rivers State , for being chastised over unwanted pregnancy . The 17 - year -old identified only as Abibatu , according to reports was a pupil of one of the secondary schools in the area . She decided to end her life by taking insecticide after her parents scolded her for the pregnancy .Also in Delta State , a candidate who sat for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination ( UTME) was reported to have committed suicide for performing below her expectation in the examination . The teenager identified as Loveth, terminated her life with three bottles of insecticide after her father told her it won’t be possible for her to study medicine with her score of 160 aggregate. Also in February this year , a 26 -year - old microbiology student of the Delta State University ( DELSU ) , identified as Evelyn Mogekwu reportedly killed herself after being jilted by her fiancé . Reports said the end of the seven -year relationship traumatised the girl as all plans to walk down the aisle with her boyfriend failed . She ended her life since should could not handle the depression .The list can chronologically go on and on , as the abominable act appears to be the swiftest means of resolving frustrating issues among the youths. However , these regrettable incidents according to stakeholders could be prevented if the government , schools , parents and of course the society understand they have a role and live up to their expectations in that regard . Consultant Psychiatric and lecturer , University of Lagos ( UNILAG ) , Dr . Oluseun Peter Nubi , who confirmed increased cases of suicidal activities in the country , linked the act to family dynamics, socio - economic situation, peer pressure and westernisation. He said the crave for money has set families apart as both parents are working and always busy without recognising and attending to the emotional needs of their children . Nubi said if children cannot confide and share problems with their parents , if they have no emotional support , they would grow with poor coping mechanism and belief that death is the only option . On socio - economic , peer pressure and westernisation, Nubi blamed government and its poor leadership vision, saying that in developed climes , things are done differently for public good. According to him , “ Before now suicide use to be a very dreadful thing , we use to think suicide is western thing, but we are imbibing it now , people are looking for a way out . There are lots of novels out there , like 1000 ways to die , and people are becoming bold to do it because of what they see and read on the Internet . Someone will go to school and shoot him / herself , suicide bombers everywhere. And so all this inculcation of western habit is beginning to affect our youths, they are no longer afraid of death when they are frustrated .” He said parents , schools , government at all levels and the society have a huge role to play in addressing the current trend before it goes out of hand .“Before anybody commits suicide, there must be what we call Suicide Red Flag, that is symptoms and signs you see to know that that this person is about to do something cruel. So society should be aware of this and must never take threats like ‘ I want to kill myself… I will die ’ lightly . This is when monitoring and counselling should commence . “Schools must have a robust guardian /counselling unit , people that commits suicide, are in High Risk Group ( HRG ) . Counsellors in all our schools should be able to identify the HRG in primary , secondary and universities . How do you know them ? Those who are always absent from school ; those who cannot afford their school fees ; those who look tattered, wearing the same uniform/shoes for years ; those who are always on their own ; those not performing well in school ; those who are drinking and smoking; those who are in a relationship that is battered and tattered. They all need counselling .” On the part of parents , he said , “They must have high in depth of suspicion . Parents should pay unexpected visit to their wards , go to their rooms and do some checking , peep into their diary if you suspect your child is suicidal . Mothers should probe their children and their relationships. If your child is a cultist, you can detect it from regular checks and monitoring . If your child is in a battered relationship and is almost giving up , you can detect .” Above all , Nubi said government should provide Suicide Intervention Strategy ( SIS ) . “Nigeria is one of the few nation that does not have SIS . Both the federal , state and local government should have suicide call centre . In Australia , people can actually dial a number if they feel suicidal . Once you beep or call that number , the centre will call you back and immediately ambulance will pick up the person and attend to whatever may be the need at that time . They can get a counsellor , psychiatric , psychotherapy to talk to the victim . Unfortunately, we don’t even have national suicide prevention plan , at national and even at local and state level, these are things that should be put in place so that people can have access to it… all someone need is someone to talk to,” he summarised. Also research findings on the website of National Association of School Psychologists ( NASP ) , Bethesda , United States , affirmed that people who are contemplating suicide often show warning signs of being distressed . And this is where parents , teachers , and friends come in and see how they can intervene and avert the seeming danger . Also care givers at homes, schools and within the neighbourhood must understand these signs so as to be able to detect when something is about to go wrong. “They should never take these warning signs lightly or promise to keep them secret . When all adults and students in the school community are committed to making suicide prevention a priority - and are empowered to take the correct actions-we can help youths before they engage in behaviour with irreversible consequences. “Children and adolescents spend a substantial part of their day in school under the supervision of school personnel . Effective suicide and violence prevention is integrated with supportive mental health services , engages the entire school community , and is embedded in a positive school climate through student behavioural expectations and a caring and trusting student / adult relationship . “Therefore, it is crucial for all school staff members to be familiar with , and watchful for , risk factors and warning signs of suicidal behaviour . The entire school staff should work to create an environment where students feel safe sharing such information. School psychologists and other crisis response team personnel , including the school counselor and school administrator , are trained to intervene when a student is identified at risk for suicide,” the report stated .Professor of Sociology, Lagos State University ( LASU ) , Elias Wahab , who also blamed the situation on the failure of state and religious bodies to live up to their mandates , stressed that functional guidance and counseling units in schools is imperative . According to him , there are four types of suicide : anomic, fatalistic , egoistic , altruistic suicide and people who actually commit the physical act of suicide often fall into three areas .“What you find happening in Nigeria mostly is a kind of anomic, fatalistic and egoistic suicides resulting from frustration . Aggressive suicide happening when there is a failure in the state . When the state has failed , people will resort to religion , now with the ministration of religion , the capitalism revolving around religion , many people cannot find answers to those frustrations. “When the state has failed , religion is also not living up to expectations , then people decides to commits suicide. Such suicide is highly rebellious , it emanates from serious thoughts , which comes to the conclusion that life is not worthy of living . They have been to religious houses and they prayed for you , yet no solution.” Wahab said for the situation to be averted , the state , family and schools must perform its function towards the citizens , as most of these suicides are preventable . “Before someone commits suicide, you will see the signs, the person must have been complaining and nobody seems to be listening . State has a lot of role to play , family has a role and most importantly we as individuals should also try to increase on our shock absorber. We should understand the fact that we cannot get everything that we desire in life , and taking someone ’s life is not the solution. “Plato said , every human being must feel pleasure and pain. Some people have very little shock absorber for pains . When they feel small pains like this , they will feel it’s the end of life . Because of the understanding I have about life , the kind of pain I might feel, if another person feels it, he/ she will go and commit suicide while I will be smiling with hope to overcome . So there is need for regular guidance and counselling in every units .” On how to work on one’s shock absorber, he explained , “it is about experience and strong conviction of I can do it. ”Now that stakeholders have proffered solutions to help stop suicide among pupils , students and undergraduates, will parents , schools , government, and the society heed to the call? Only time will tell . https://www.nigerialog.com/random-thoughts/taming-the-scourge-of-suicide-among-students/new/#new |

One aspect of personal finance that no one seems to like is debt. Being in debt can be a terrible experience, and if you are already stuck in one, this piece is written for you. Imagine a man who works hard during the day and goes home at night only to have a sleepless night because he is owing. That is what debt does to debtors. It prevents them from living the life they wish to live and at the same time gives them no rest of mind. However, while it may be argued that debt can be useful in meeting certain financial goals, it is equally important to get rid of it as fast as possible, if you can't completely avoid it. Here are five simple steps to help you get rid of debt. 1. Make a conscious decision to stop borrowing You only become a debtor when you borrow. And if you really want to stop being a debtor, you'll need to stop using debt to fund your lifestyle. That means you'll have to stop taking loans for big purchases. Signing up for credit cards has to stop; and also say bye bye to borrowing money to buy things you don't really need. Giving up all these allows you to service your current debt if you have any. But if you aren't owing anybody, congratulations. You can now focus your personal finance effort on meeting your financial goals. 2. Have an emergency fund You might be wondering why having an emergency fund is so important in personal finance. See, whether you are owing or not, an emergency fund is very important to everybody. Not having it is like having no savings for emergency situations. It is meant to help you when you have an emergency situation. Not having this fund could prompt you to borrow when an emergency does happen. 3. Create a realistic budget and stick to it If you are working hard to prevent yourself from getting into debt, you need to have a working budget that tracks your income and expenses. 4. Organize your debt So, for those already in debt, apart from taking the three tips mentioned above, you also need to map out a plan to offset your debt. If your debt is more than one, you can outline your list of debts according to their interest rate. Know how much you are owing in total and prioritise which debt you are paying first. 5. Get rid of your debt Having got an emergency fund and using a budget to guide your expenses, at this point, paying off your debt should be your priority. However, while you are doing this, make sure you do not compound the debt by getting more debt. If you really want to be fast about getting rid of your debt, you can also find a side hustle to increase your income....and before you know it, you're debt-free already. Having paid your debt, you can save more money to meet your financial goals. https://www.nigerialog.com/business/you-won't-find-yourself-in-debt-again-if-you-try-these-tips/new/#new |
We understand there is a thin chance you’ ll get along well with every one of your colleagues . There ’s definitely the one who talks incessantly, the ones who can ’t clean up after themselves and the ones who pass responsibilities to you. Fortunately , there are a couple of steps you can take while dealing with the most annoying of co -workers . Avoid them This may seem impossible since you see the person on a daily basis but you will be surprised that if you actually make a conscious effort , you will noticeably have lesser interactions with this person. Even if the person parades the office , be too busy to stop what you are doing. “When you reduce your interaction with someone it often improves your interaction with them .” Compromise Try to meet your co - worker halfway and be open to his or her own way of doing things. You may just be able to deal with it. Do not insist on always getting it done your way . After all , you may be working with this person for weeks , months and maybe even years . Remember, it is just professional No matter how upset you get , remember you only have to deal with them until work closes and you are not going to take them home with you at the end of the day . The realisation that it is only temporary helps you ignore and tolerate annoying as well as irritating situations. That , in turn , helps you control your temper . Stay positive Try to stay positive despite the insanity. We understand that is almost impossible but you are more likely to get cooperation from other co -workers this way. https://www.nigerialog.com/career/heres-how-to-deal-with-annoying-co-workers/new/#new |

Members of the Youth Agitator Nationalist Forum on Monday protested against the invitation of the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, by the police in connection with the Offa robberies. The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Moshood Jimoh, had in a statement on Sunday alleged that five principal suspects of the April 5 robberies made some allegations which indicted Saraki. He was asked to report to the Force Intelligence Response Team office to answer to the allegations levelled against him by the suspects. But the protesting youths, who marched to the palace of the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, in the Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, asked the police not to politicise their investigation into the robberies. They sang songs and displayed placards to express their agitation. Some of the writings on the placards read, ‘We can see the truth,’ ‘Saraki is the leader that reigns in Kwara State,’ ‘Offa robbery cannot be used to settle political scores,’ ‘Politics and robbery are not equal,’ ‘Offa people are not fools,’ and ‘There are lies in police action.’ The President of the Youth Agitator Nationalist Forum, Peter Kayode, said the group would mobilse no fewer than 5,000 youths to trek from Kwara State to Abuja to show their solidarity with Saraki. He said, “We do not want the Nigeria Police Force to use the Offa incident against our leader (Saraki). We are using this protest to sound a note of warning that the police should correct their action. They must make sure that this issue is not politicised. They should leave our leader alone. “We are youths and we have the capacity to trek to Abuja; it is not just a verbal utterance. If this issue is not addressed, the youths of Kwara State will walk from Kwara to Abuja. “We don’t want any revolution, but when we start our movement, there will be no going back. “We are more than 5,000; we have as members secondary school pupils and students in tertiary institutions that are Kwara State indigenes. We will walk to Abuja.” A woman leader in Offa, Chief Atinuke Mycarthy, urged the police to do a thorough investigation into the robberies. “They should be thorough in their investigation. We are not here to disturb or distract the work of the police. We are imploring them to be fair and ensure justice so that the truth will be revealed,” she said. The Ojomu of Offa, High Chief Joseph Akinnola, said the palace was surprised to learn that Saraki was being linked to the suspects, adding that the community was taken aback by the allegation against him. “He, however, said the police should do their work thoroughly, adding that those culpable should be dealt with. He said, “The Senate President was one of the early callers to commiserate with us. “He promised to help us to get more armoured personnel carriers and policemen. The state government promised a new police station. “We want to implore the police to be God fearing and ensure that the innocent will not be punished. https://www.nigerialog.com/metro/offa-robbery-offa-youths-protest-against-sarakis-invitation/new/#new |

A lot of the dating propositions happen online and the reason is because it is a lot faster. You probably already know about some of these sites, but for those who are completely clueless about the online dating world, here are the best websites you can visit to find your dream date. 1. Facebook Although Facebook is not specifically created for dating, it can be used to get a date as well. For instance, you meet an attractive person in a bar and have a great conversation with him. When you go home, you can “friend” that person and get to know them a little better. 2. Twitter Twitter is not exactly a dating medium, but it is possible to find a date with some clever tweets. Twitter enables private messaging, and you can start a conversation with someone whom you are following. If the other person also swipes right on your image, then you can start a conversation with him. 4. Blendr Blendr is another mobile dating app that is similar to Tinder. It allows users to connect with other local singles by accessing location information through your Facebook account. Blendr is slightly more formal than Tinder and less geared toward casual hookups. It still provides access to tons of singles and can help you get a date too. 5. Okcupid Okcupid is another dating app that can be used to quickly find a date. People on Okcupid set up their profiles, and allow people to judge them on more than just their looks initially. There is also no swiping. Break-up can be very devastating. The way men behave or react after a break-up differs from one man to another. There are those who are emotionally mature and can handle a break-up with a lot of maturities. There are those who get into depression and never recover. Then there are those who are emotionally immature and can do the unthinkable. Here are some of the weird things men do after a break-up. Suicide Some men cannot handle a break-up. They cannot imagine living without their girlfriend/wife and so, according to them, ending their lives is the best option. Suicide arising from a break-up is very common among high school and college students. They are probably not emotionally mature to seek help or counseling. Stalking Some men do not believe that they have been dumped. They still want to stick with the girl and the best way they do this is by stalking the girl. They use anonymous accounts or different accounts to secretly follow their ex on social media. They want to see what she is up to and whether she is happy after the break-up. Another reason they stalk is to know whether the girl has jumped into a new relationship. Picking up a fight Another weird thing that men do after a break-up is to pick up a fight with the girl’s new catch. They still feel like they are the ones who own their former girlfriends and not anyone else. If they bump into the girl with her new catch, they will throw tantrums and pick up a fight with the girl’s new catch. They want to show the new catch that they still matter. Some men pick up a fight with the girl. They become verbally and physically abusive. Over-drinking For those who cannot fathom the fact that they are officially single, the only option they have is to befriend the bottle. They tend to overdrink in a bid to forget about the break-up and to erase memories of the girl. You will find them drunk 24/7. It will take them time to face the reality that their loved ones are gone and gone forever. Depression Some men just go into deep depression. It while they are depressed that suicidal thoughts cross their minds. They become unproductive and tend to give up in life. They fail their exams and become lone-rangers. Depression can also lead to low self-esteem and the feeling that they are not loved. Rushing into another affair There is also this behavior of men rushing into a new relationship just to prove to the girl that they are not desperate. You will see them posting photos of their new catch on social media with the intention of showing their former girlfriends how happy they are. In the real sense, they are not happy. https://www.nigerialog.com/romance/weird-things-men-do-after-break-up/new/#new |
