It's that time of the year again, due to the unanimous vote of confidence in my handling of the league last season, I have accepted the responsibility of managing the Nairaland Premier League and the Nairaland FA Cup this season.

It promises to be even more competitive and entertaining. The rules for qualification remain basically the same from last season.

There will be two leagues, a Classic League and a Head-to-Head Cup.

You don't need to create a new team, just go to the FPL site and enter your email and password. Your team details will remain the same, but you'll be asked to update some things and pick a new set of players.

1. Entry into the leagues will be strictly by invitation.
2. The codes will be sent to a few well-known members by Nairaland PM.
3. Requests for entry (if not recieved in your Inbox) should be posted on this thread.
4. Anybody is allowed to send in a request for the code.
5. The top 20 from last season get automatic qualification.

Please register early in order to avoid disappointment, only limited spaces available.

so in football nowadays if you score a goal or two then you performed very well but if you do not score a goal then you are flop. so if i say we use overaged players or that messi dismantled Nigeria then it amounts to dissing nigeria? pls dont derail from the issue. like it or not messi was the top scorer and the best player of that tournament. that was when the world knew him.
I think you seem to be missing the point. You Barcelona fans always shout to the high heavens that he is the greatest footballer ever to grace a green field in football. But unlike other great footballers he has not done much or better still practically nothing with the Argentine national team.
messi may better still be described as one of the greatest footballers in club history and not in football history.

He is marvelous great daunting but not the greatest ever as you want to push down everyone's throat like blackmailing Arsenal everyday.

His record for barcelona is Amazing but woeful for Argetina National team.

The worst thing was for the coach to want to align his team to the style of barcelona so as to make Messi function.

Unfortunately, anytime the coach does try to put up a selection to his tatse and messi still does not function the coach still ends up receiving the blame. grin

Its like this:

Argentina try to play like Barca: Messi still underperforms: coach receives the blame for not having a mind of his own.

Argentina tries to play like Argentina: Messi still undefperforms: coach is accussed of not using Messi in the right role as he is unsed in barca.

Argentina leaves Messi out of the squad: HE GETS SACKED FOR STUPIDITY. grin grin grin grin

the moment one realises that argentina and barcelona are 2 seperate entities then you wont expect much from the WFOTY. wink

Travel › Re: Most Stressed Women In The World - Nigerian Women Are 9th by usbcable(m): 11:55am On Jul 13, 2011
Why Are Indian Women So Stressed Out?

Women in urban India have easy access to domestic help: A full-time maid, cook or driver are not uncommon in their households. Of course, these are luxuries that most working women in the rest of the world can only dream about.

But a recent survey by global research firm Nielsen illuminates another picture. Covering 6,500 women across 21 developed and developing countries, the study’s results show that women in India are the most stressed out. Of the respondents in India, 87% said they felt stressed most of the time. They are followed by women in Mexico (74%), Russia (69%), Spain (66%), France (65%) and Italy (64%). In the U.S., the number is at 53%.

What exactly is weighing on women in one of the fastest growing economies in the world? The Nielsen survey’s respondents point to the requirement of managing multiple roles.

One could well argue that this particular condition exists for women across the globe: Juggling roles at home and work are a given. There is a difference in India, however, says Nirmala Menon, founder and CEO of Interweave Consulting, a Bangalore-based firm that focuses on diversity management and inclusiveness in the workplace. Menon notes that even as career opportunities for women in India are on the upswing, the support structure and social mores have not kept pace. “Nor has the internal psyche of the Indian woman,” adds Menon. “Despite ‘modern’ times, traditional expectations of women are still conveyed in subtle but consistent ways. The Indian woman has far more familial interfaces to manage than her western counterpart.”

According to Hema Ravichandar, human resources advisor and formerly the global head of HR at IT firm Infosys: “Regressive mindsets in society and the workplace; a culture that rewards performance based on effort — with the number of hours spent [working] as proxy indicator — rather than result; rigid work policies which do not factor in the need to spend extra time at home during critical phases like childbirth, adoption, etc., are unique to India.”

There are other reasons, too. Technical infrastructure support and enablers are at a nascent stage in the country as compared to the developed economies. Options like working from home, flex-time, telecommuting and so on have arrived only in the recent past in new industries and are still evolving. “Even in companies which have these facilities, it is not construed as the right thing to do if you are serious about going up the corporate ladder,” says Ravichandar.

A lack of women in executive roles mirrors this. A report by Standard Chartered Bank points out that women constitute only 5.3% of the total number of board members in the top 100 Indian companies by market capitalization on the Bombay Stock Exchange. This is much lower than in other countries, including Australia (8.3%), Hong Kong (8.9%), the U.K. (12.2%), the U.S. (14.5%) and Canada (15.0%). The number of Indian women in middle and senior management roles is not much higher.

Meanwhile, the latest employment data show that worker participation (the ratio of workers to population) fell to 39.2% in 2009-2010 from 42% in 2004-2005. While the decline is marginal for men — from 55.9% to 55% — it is significant in the case of women — from 29.4% to 23.3%. Analysts say that one reason for this is that as men in the family start earning more, women, especially in the lower middle class, opt out of the work force for reasons of social status. In his column in the daily newspaper Times of India, Swaminathan Anklesaria Aiyer noted: “Social mores, especially in the lower middle class, give superior social status to households where women don’t work. When a family with rising income decides to keep females at home, it literally buys social status with the income foregone.”

But the survey’s implications go beyond individuals or families. All of this has wide ramifications for India’s continued economic growth. If the support structure and attitudes towards women, both in the workplace and in society at large, don’t change, women will either simply opt out of the workforce or — faced with endless stress — be far less productive than their true potential. This will result in a sharp blow to the country’s demographic dividend, which though touted as a key factor in India’s growth, is under its own stress. The window for growth is small and, as Ravichandar points out: “Having women as part of your workforce is no longer a nice-to-do but a must-do.”

5 Reasons Why Real Madrid's José Mourinho Does NOT Have FC Barcelona's Number

Myths have a way to spread in sports, and football in particular. When many fans start saying the same thing, it ends up becoming true in the minds of the masses, even if the reality is quite different.

A great example of a myth is the belief that current Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has got FC Barcelona "figured out," that he is Barcelona's nemesis. While this might sound a beautiful proposition to some, a more careful analysis of the facts makes it easy to conclude that it couldn't be further away from the truth.

José Mourinho is not FC Barcelona's bête noire. It's quite the opposite actually. Here is why:

1. His Record Against FC Barcelona Is Clearly Negative
Since 2005, José Mourinho has faced FC Barcelona on 15 occasions and he has won a whooping, four, one of them in extra time. He has drawn five teams and lost six. Overall, Mourinho's teams have scored 16 goals, while FC Barcelona scored 22. These definitely don't seem like the numbers of a manager who has Barcelona figured out.

Moreover, the Portuguese has never managed to win a game at Camp Nou in seven attempts: the best he's managed is three draws, and two of them meant his elimination from the Champions League (in the second leg in 2006 with Chelsea and last season with Real Madrid). It was also at the Camp Nou that José Mourinho suffered the biggest humiliation of his career so far, when Barcelona beat his Real Madrid side 5-0.

These numbers clearly prove that José Mourinho hasn't found a successful formula to beat Barcelona.

2.FC Barcelona and José Mourinho Have Participated in 7 CLs, Barca Won 3, José 1
José Mourinho and FC Barcelona have competed against each other in the Champions League on seven occasions, six if you discount the 2007/2008 season where Mourinho left Chelsea in the middle of the group stages.

On those six occasions (2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011), Barcelona won the Champions three times! Mourinho only won it once with Inter (Barcelona did not participate in the 2003/2004 Champions League, which Mourinho won with Porto). If anything, it seems that José Mourinho is a lucky charm for Barcelona. The Catalans only won four Champions Leagues in their history, three of them had Mourinho in it. In two of them, Barcelona beat a Mourinho-managed team en route to the title, and in the other one, they beat the team that eliminated Mourinho (Manchester United in 2009).

To be fair, in the four ties where Barcelona faced a Mourinho-led team, Barcelona and Mourinho split triumphs, but Barcelona won their ties a lot more comfortably and, unlike Mourinho, went on to win the competition on both occasions.

3. Last Season's Clásicos
The hype was stronger than ever after José Mourinho's Inter Milan luckily eliminated Barcelona in the 2009/2010 Champions League and the Portuguese manager moved to Real Madrid, Barcelona's eternal rival.

Surely, with this magical manager that had Barcelona's number and the most expensive squad ever assembled at his disposal, Real Madrid would have no problem beating Barcelona in the 2010/2011 Clásicos, right? Wrong. In the first Clásico of the season, Mourinho had no answers as Barcelona mercilessly annihilated Real Madrid at the Camp Nou. José could only watch as he and his team took a true football lesson.

Those who expected a strong reaction in the following Clásico were bitterly disappointed. In a game that Real needed to win in order to have some title hopes, Mourinho set his team out to get a lackluster draw that basically handed Barcelona the league title.

The Copa del Rey title, ground out in extra time, was weak consolation, since the semifinals of the Champions League once again proved that Mourinho was no match for FC Barcelona. Mourinho had no answer to Lionel Messi. As the world's greatest player once again stole the show, Mourinho could do nothing but utter some deluded "Por Qués?".

In the end, Barcelona took the two most important trophies, while Mourinho had to settle for the Spanish Cup. While it's not exactly bad, it's not what you expect from a manager who supposedly has Barcelona figured out.

4. José Mourinho Has Always Managed Great Teams with Unlimited Transfer Funds
José Mourinho's record against Barcelona could be considered great if he were managing some minnows with no resources. But that's just not the case. Both in Chelsea and Real Madrid, he managed the most expensively assembled squads in the world at the given time, and there was no lack of resources at Inter either.

All these three sides have the resources to go head to head with Barcelona, so the only explanation for Mourinho's negative record against the Catalans is that, while he is a great manager (hence why he's got some wins), he does not have Barcelona figured out. He merely instructs his teams to defend as roughly as possible and try to surprise Barcelona on the counter, and most of the time, that has not worked.

Even if his Real Madrid one day match Pep Guardiola's Barcelona, that is hardly proof of Mourinho's unparalleled genius. Contrary to what he and the press wants us to believe, Mourinho and Madrid are not underdogs. They have arguably even more resources than Barcelona. After all, it's not like Mourinho would be the first Real Madrid manager to beat Barcelona, would it?

José is just a great manager, one of the world's best, managing great teams all his career, but that's about it.

5. Mourinho Has Been Powerless to Stop Barcelona's Golden Era
This is probably the most relevant point of all. Mourinho came into the scene in 2004, and curiously, it was after the emergence of this so-called "nemesis" that Barcelona entered the most successful period in their history. With a nemesis like this, who even needs friends?

In the past six seasons, Barcelona won the Champions League three times and reached two semifinals. In two of these triumphs, they beat a Mourinho-managed team en route to the title.

Mourinho hasn't been a thorn in Barcelona's golden era, but one of its many victims. He did frustrate the Catalans in 2010 with Inter, probably stealing them a fourth Champions League title in six seasons, but that's about it. He has been on the other end (the losing) on several occasions in the important competitions, and he was Real Madrid's manager in the match that will certainly turn out to be the defining match of this golden era at Barcelona, the manita.

Conclusion
José Mourinho is one of the greatest managers of this generation, but the myth that he has FC Barcelona's number is just that: a myth. To this day (it can change in the future), Mourinho hasn't found a formula to beat Barcelona, contrary to popular belief, as the numbers clearly show.

pele won a world cup for brazil @ 17! that brazilian team had no stars and pele was the star of the team. messi for argentina is utterly useless. without xavi and iniesta, leo messi is very ordinary. i watched as he laboured for 90 mins without producing anything of note. the late freekick he had to change the game was kicked to row-z.

cristiano can play in every team. he tries to carry the team, he commands, he helps, he scores, he passes, he does the freekicks. he does not need a system, or playing time with the team. he is just outstanding, good in every team but not as good as messi at barca(which i am now convinced is due to xavi and iniesta).

messi needs a total system. every step planned, like a swiss-clockwork. if he finds all this, he is the best player in the world. there is only one hook, he can only play for barcelona and maintain that scary dominance on the pitch

if any of the big clubs were to buy messi, he will suck. however, ronaldo would go to any league and own the field again.
and this is why many would prefer ronaldo any time over leo messi. technically, you need to have the time to build a hardcore system over years and years, which is obviously not going to happen before messi can flourish.

messi has played full 180 mins against hapless teams and he was shyte throughout. putting a performance worse than oshea would cop against a big team and people say he's the best player to have ever played the game. . . .big fallacy. go and watch cryuff, beckenbauer, fat ronaldo, zidane, maradona, etc and see how they inspire team-mates(country/club)
