@lastpage
So, EVERYONE in Nigeria is comfortable, right?
And EVERY NIGERIAN that lives abroad is POOR?
Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, lived abroad....just to mention two glaring examples!
Its not always about money (even if the money was got from corruption and sycophancy ala Govt bootlicking!), at times, such decisions are based on family/children issues.
As for me, Nigeria will always be HOME, no matter how bad things get. I wish it was better (just give me electricity ONLY, even if it is just 18 hrs and regular!) ....other things l can cater for but how can l build my own Power Station? huh huh
Generator fumes is killing a lot of Nigerians but they dont know it, Cancer rate is astronomical but they cant figure it out .... yet some folks think those who decide to live abroad are poor, huh? Have you ever wondered: despite all the money our "Governors and Big Politicians have stolen, when they get sick, WHERE DO THEY RUN TO? The same Hospital we in Diaspora use! grin grin That alone should set you thinking. I dont want to name them but l remember our last President died in a foreign hospital, the wives of two others died in a foreign hospital, another one was "healed" in a foreign hospital, not to mention their husbands!
See what l mean by "its not all about money"?
I just hope and pray our Nigerian leaders (and their bootlickers!) would have the fear of God in them and stop SLASHING the QUALITY OF LIFE and LIFE EXPECTANCY of Nigerians, BY HALF!
I come home every year! I just love my country, too much. I wish l would retire back home, when the time comes. kiss
On one of my trips home, l took two of my kids to all the "shanty areas of Lagos alone", because l want them to "appreciate what God has done for them"! They could not believe the suffering they saw! Since them, anything they dont need anymore but is still "useable", is carefully bagged and given to charity back 'home'! And they stopped throwing whole chicken into the bin or wasting food, just because they have it plenty!
Lastpage!
BTW, its not a "fight" between Nigerians at home and those in diaspora. we should be complementing each other, there are ways we can be useful to one another and all this "ego, beefing and forming big man" should have no-place in our interactions! God Bless You |

do you want me to sugar coat it for you? I have to be honest...the biggest problem with Nigeria is the Nigerian mentality...and thats not going away anytime soon...so yes 200 years from now i believe it will be gone....but the pride, arrogance, and unwillingness to learn from others is really killing Nigeria...countries like south Africa can teach Nigeria a lot if not but pride...calling themselves giant of Africa...is that even something to be proud of?...good luck for Nigeria sha... You hit the nail at the head. Pride and they have nothing. Go back home and they will kneel for your Dollars |

@Gentle me Folks who see this mere victory has a sign of Jonathan losing ahead are just just been pathetic to be serious. We know vividly that almost all the opposition state governors voted Amaechi while he enjoyed the 20% from his 2 northern friends governors.
The statistics have it clearly that almost 90% of PDP governors voted for Jang. So it was a clear sign that Ameachi only won from the opposition and those who understand politics very well will know why the opposition did this
- They did it to keep stirring storms in PDP while tryin to subtly appeal to Ameachi's defecting to their party - They did it to make Nigerians think Presido look weak but NGF to me is just a forum where common interests that cuts across partisanship is discussed...one for all all for one......we know that come 2015 all man will be for himself...if you doubt me ask Timipre Sylva. Who cares why they did it, the bottom line is GEJ lost woefully. His preferred candidate lost |

Under Yaradua, every ministry was mandated to return unspent money to the treasury. GEJ put a stop to it. Yaradua openly declared his asset. Under Yaradua petrol was N60 per liter and subsidy was around 400+ billion GEJ increased petrol to 97 and above and more than 1.6 trillion spent on subsidy. I never really liked Yaradua but he would have done more if not for his ill health. |
Politics › Re: Who Is Better At Leadership? GEJ Or Yar'adua. by userlist(f): 5:01pm On Dec 31, 2012 |
by Kewt: Yaradua
-Demonstrated that he had a mind of his early in his administration by reversing some anti-people policies of the immediate Govt which he happens to be a beneficiary of. Reversal of petrol from N70 to N65.. Release of Lagos withheld funds..Reversal of sale of refineries to friends and cronies of immediate past administration. -Had a clear vision and economical blueprint emasculated in the 7 point agenda -Maintained and grew foreign reserves from $36B to $45B. -Declared his assets on assumption of office -Demonstrated commitment in solving the niger delta menace by creating ministry of niger delta -Less corruption as less than N350NB was paid as subsidy in 2009 -Less interest in globe trotting and only embarks on religious pilgrimages or health trips -Demonstrated free-ness when he openly announced his unwillingness to appeal should the supreme court rule against him on the elections that brought him to power -Started the electoral reforms which he promised in his electoral speech -Showed prudency and left more than N9b in the coffers of Kastina state govt after ruling for 8 yrs -Built more roads in Kastina than any other state govt since inception -Was never mentioned by EFCC as having a case to answer while he was governor of Kastina state -Bode George was convicted and sentenced under his administration -No fuel scarcity during his tenure despite that fuel sold for N65/litre pump price
Jonathan
-Has no mind of his. Always openly manipulated by his handlers. -No clear vision of development or agenda for country’s growth only transformation and fresh air. -Depleted foreign reserves by sharing same to governors in a bid to secure their support for his 2011 presidential ambition -Was forced to declare his assets as vice president and openly admitted he does not not give a damn as president. -Highest level of monumental corruption under his watch. Subsidy payment grew from N350B during Yaradua/OBJ tenure to close to N1 trillion and from about 15 licensed companies to more than 100. -Always globe trotting for every form of world occasion which included the world head of govt summit where Nigeria had the largest number of delegates -Has always been cunny, desperate and power drunk. Bribing over 5,000 PDP delegates with $7,000 each during 2011 convention to beat Atiku, and His body language towards 2015 lays credence to this fact. -No reasonable achievement can be traceable to him during his stay as Bayelsa Governor. -He and his wife were accused of corruption by EFCC while he was Governor. Case file is now missing with no traces or links. -No known criminal however small has been convicted under his administration. Alameseigha is a constant figure in Aso Rock and Tony Anenih sits as the chairman of NPA despite alleged fraud when he was minister of works. Several ministers in his govt have been accused of corruption without he doing anything about it. -Misled Nigerians by claiming his fight aginst corruption is only second to that of US and that Nigeria under his watch attained 3rd postion in the fight against corruption. -Failure to take a stand on the Farouk/Otedola mess which is still hanging without balance till today. (Otedola is also a regular face in Aso rock and is alleged to be a friend of Mr President) -Unpecedented and high level of loss of lives and properties without he taking any decisive step. Instead, he keeps making unguarded statements like.. Terrorism is everywhere in the world, We should pray that behind BH should have a change of mind etc -Keeps forming committee upon committee without any visible progress. -Fuel scarcity despite buying fuel at between N110 and N120/litre. -Penchant for excesses and wastages; N1b per day for food, N20B for purchase and maintenance of presidential jets, N16B for vice presidents lodge in Aso rock, N2B for Banquet hall etc
Summary A reasonable ground for comparison is Motives and Antecedents.
While I will score Yaradua high on his motives and intention for Nigeria, GEJ scores abysmally low on that.
On antecedents while they were both Governors, Yaradua still beats GEJ hands down again.
All records are verifiable.
These are my thoughts. You spoke well my friend you did |

mosun_ade What has coruption got to do with people dieng in accidents because they do not obey traffic/driving rules. Is over speeding an issue of corruption. Is overloading an issue of corruption. Is poor vehicle maintenance an issue of corruption? Is drunk driving an issue of corruption? The man made a statement on the cause of accidents and your blood pressure rose up causing you to start a thread on it. You still have over two years of hot temper posting to do on NairaLand. It is the duty of the government to change our attitude. They make the laws and they are suppose to enforce it. Some people here blame those that drink and drive, please tell one person that has been convicted and jailed in Nigeria for drinking and driving. Everything you listed in your posting are as a result of corruption But here in the US, people are convicted everyday |
Politics › Re: Jonathan: Our Greatest Challenge Is Our Attitutude Not Corruption. by userlist(f): 8:55pm On Dec 30, 2012 |
Ikengawo: He's 100% right. People use corruption as a scapegoat because they're too lazy to think when in reality it's the mentality of the people and attitude that's holding the country back. America is very corrupt. What we call bribes here as called Lobby's in the US and Lobbyists (Bribers) get offices in Washington DC and websites. They pay politicians to do what they want the politicians to do and pay the media to do their own bidding, but the country functions. Everything from inflated contracts to cronyism and ballot manipulation, is in the US openly
the difference is if you pass a law in the US people follow it and whom ever's duty it is to enforce it will enforce it. If you build a good road in Nigeria people use it to speed. The police hired to enforce it will sleep on he job, and if someone gets in trouble for breaking a law they act like the government is oppressing them.
Most accidents in Nigeria happen on good roads. The only thing stopping Nigerians from going top speed in their cars at all times are potholes. Nigerians need a new civic culture. You are dead wrong my friend. In the US the politicians are not directly given the money but the lobby group sometimes donate money to their interest group and their campaigns. People don't obey laws in the US it is the enforcers of that law that is saddled with the responsibility of making sure that law is obeyed. Now, you tell me why the same enforcers in Nigeria doesn't carry out their responsibility. CORRUPTION If GEJ is not corrupt, he wouldn't have made such a statement. This dude is clueless |

Nigerians pray against those that stole us blind almost everyday then when things start to happen, they complain. A billionaire in Nigeria can't work freely in the community, attend functions without all sorts of guard, can't move freely in the society without harassment, you dress up nicely with things you worked hard out for you are in trouble. Nothing happens if OBJ, Fashola or any of those big guys slap you in Nigeria. You can't go out confidently with friends because you don't know what they are up to.
