About 3 weeks to go!
TV/MoviesA Nigerian Goes To Mars! by V7place(op): 11:07am On Oct 07, 2020
Like most people I have watched a lot of Hollywood productions, very rarely do you see an actor acting as a Nigerian in any significant role in a movie. The few exceptions I know include Mr Eko in Lost and CBS’s new production Bob loves Abishola!
Then I stumbled on Mars; a major production by the Geographic Channel now showing on Netflix, that has a Nigerian character. The role is not that of a terrorist, cab driver, nurse, bystander or traveler; but wait for it….wait for it….wait for it…..a mission engineer and roboticist! A crew of 6 humans going on mankind’s first trip to Mars and a Nigerian is there! Unbelievable!
Well its set about 20 years in the future; so maybe, hopefully Nigeria will have developed to join the Space Race by that time.
The character of Robert Foucault is played by Nigerian-American actor Sammi Rotibi who has featured in productions like: Batman vs Superman, Dawn of Justice, Lord of War and Tears of the Sun .
Sammi was born in Lagos and grew up in both Lagos and Maimi, USA.
Mars tells the story of mankind’s first manned journey to the fourth rock from the Sun and efforts to colonize it.

Foreign AffairsTrump's Big Mistake? He Kept A Busy Schedule During The Pandemic. Putin Didnt by V7place(op): 7:25am On Oct 03, 2020
I am one of those who believes Putin is Trump's boss. He's definitely the only person HE HAS NEVER attacked, even though he's attacked family members, party members, opposition, the press, Nigeria, even the Pope.
Or maybe President Trump just loves President Putin.

Either way, this is one time he should have listened to Putin. Putin has gone the extreme on protecting himself from COVID 19.

(CNN)Over months of the coronavirus pandemic, US President Donald Trump has kept to a busy schedule, packed with campaign rallies and public events. The contrast with Russian President Vladimir Putin could not be more stark: The authoritarian leader Trump admires so much is living in a bubble.

For most of the pandemic, Putin has been following a strict work-from-home regimen, running the affairs of state largely by videoconference. And the Kremlin has taken extreme measures to guard the health of the man who has run Russia for two decades.

Putin's primary base during the pandemic, according to his press office and extensive state television coverage, has been Novo-Ogaryovo, his residence outside Moscow. As early as April, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov made it clear that new measures had been put in place to protect the president: Everyone meeting with Putin, he said, would be tested for Covid-19, and all appointments with the leader would be held with social distancing in place.

The Kremlin went farther than just social distancing. In June, Peskov confirmed that special disinfectant tunnels had been installed in the Kremlin and at Novo-Ogaryovo as a defense against the spread of the virus. The same month, Putin went ahead with holding a postponed Victory Day parade in the middle of the pandemic. Dozens of WWII veterans who sat next to the president on the stands had to quarantine for two weeks.

More recently, Russian investigative news outlet Proekt documented the extensive rules around contact with Russia's first person: Even a brief photo opportunity required a visitor to undergo a strict two-week quarantine, regardless of their rank. Whether it was a top manager of a state gas company, or a group of scientists awarded with a medal and a handshake, all had to adhere to the protocol.

Proekt reported that over the summer that the staffers closest to Putin, including secretaries, speechwriters and personal photographers, had been split between residencies in Sochi and Moscow. Both groups had to quarantine in a nearby health resort for two weeks and undergo extensive testing, according to Proekt.

The coronavirus rules affected the media coverage, as most journalists were essentially cut off from getting access to Putin. With very little public events and virtually no press availability since the beginning of the pandemic, even the Kremlin press pool has been significantly reduced in numbers, forcing most loyal state TV reporters to report from home.

On the rare occasion Putin had to attend a mass event, such as a September meeting with Russia's Senate in the Kremlin, the footage showed a good ten meters of social distancing between the president and everyone else.

Concerns about Putin's health are legitimate. The Russian president is by all accounts in good health and is known for his temperate habits and vigorous physical-exercise routine. But at 67 years old, he is already past the average life expectancy for a Russian male, and any serious illness for him would set off a full-blown political crisis in the country.

And the virus itself has previously penetrated the Kremlin's inner circle. In May, Peskov -- a trusted confidant and adviser to Putin -- was hospitalized with Covid-19. Peskov has since recovered, but at least three Russian ministers have previously tested positive for the virus, including Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova and Minister of Housing Vladimir Yakushev.

Russia has seen intense speculation about Putin's possible exposure to Covid-19. Back in March, the Russian president donned a protective suit to visit the Moscow hospital that was monitoring suspected coronavirus patients. The hospital's head doctor -- who appeared in a photo opportunity with Putin -- subsequently fell ill with the virus, although there was no evidence to suggest that Putin himself had been infected.

Putin's vaccine meets opposition from frontline workers in Russia

Putin has scored many geopolitical points during the pandemic, even as Russia's infection rate continued to climb. Back in the spring, the Russian government sent a shipment of medical supplies, including ventilators and personal protective equipment, to help American hospitals fight the coronavirus. More recently, Putin announced that Russia had rushed a coronavirus vaccine to approval, even though the vaccine had not undergone critical stage 3 trials, in keeping with standard practice.

President Trump's have decided to use the drug Remdesivir to treat him. Does this end the Chloroquine debate?

Medical specialists have elected to start Remdesivir therapy for President Donald Trump, according to a tweet from Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany that cites a statement from his physician.

HealthWalter Reed: The Military Hospital Where Trump Is Being Treated by V7place(op): 11:38pm On Oct 02, 2020
Walter Reed officially known as The Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) is the top Military Hospital and also the designated hospital of the Commander in Chief of the US Military (The President).

Every President visits there, whether to check on wounded troops or do personal check up.

It is located at 4494 Palmer Rd N, Bethesda, MD 20889, about 15 kilometers from the White House

It does have Presidential offices consisting of a suite of rooms on the sprawling campus of Walter Reed, including: a sitting room, a conference room and a hospital bedroom.

It is named after Major Walter Reed, M.D., U.S. Army (September 13, 1851 – November 22, 1902).
He was a U.S. Army physician who in 1901 led the team that confirmed the theory of the Cuban doctor Carlos Finlay that yellow fever is transmitted by a particular mosquito species, rather than by direct contact. This insight gave impetus to the new fields of epidemiology and biomedicine, and most immediately allowed the resumption and completion of work on the Panama Canal (1904–1914) by the United States. Foreign AffairsDonald Trump Develops Fever, Transferred To Military Hospital by V7place(op): 11:13pm On Oct 02, 2020
President Trump has had fever since Friday morning and is being transferred to a military hospital.

Major News outlets including Yahoo are reporting.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump will spend a “few days” at a military hospital after contracting COVID-19, the White House said Friday, as the virus that has killed more than 205,000 Americans spread to the highest reaches of the U.S. government. Trump “remains fatigued,” his doctor said.

Trump was to depart the White House by helicopter late Friday for Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The White House said the visit was precautionary and that he would work from the hospital’s presidential suite, which is equipped to allow him to continue his official duties.

“President Trump remains in good spirts, has mild symptoms, and has been working throughout the day," said press secretary Kayleigh McEnany. “Out of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the president will be working from the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days.”

Earlier Friday the White House said Trump had been injected with an experimental antibody cocktail by the White House physician.

HealthPresident Donald Trump & First Lady Test Positive For COVID 19 by V7place(op): 6:05am On Oct 02, 2020
President Donald Trump and First Lady both just tested positive for COVID 19.

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1311892190680014849

He apparently got infected through possible contact with his controversial aide Hope Hicks.

CNN also just confirmed. https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/01/politics/hope-hicks-positive-coronavirus/index.html

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump tested positive for coronavirus, the President announced early Friday morning.

"Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!" Trump tweeted shortly before 1 am Friday.
The President had said earlier in the night that he planned to quarantine.
"Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!" Trump tweeted Thursday night.

Hicks has traveled with the President multiple times recently, including to the debate in Cleveland on Tuesday, and was seen boarding Marine One, along with several other of the President's closest aides -- Jared Kushner, Dan Scavino and Nicholas Luna -- none of whom wore masks, on Wednesday as Trump was heading to a campaign rally in Minnesota.
"She did test positive, I just heard about this. She tested positive. She's a hard worker. Lot of masks, she wears masks a lot but she tested positive. Then I just went out with a test. I'll see -- you know, because we spent a lot of time -- and the first lady just went out with a test also. So whether we quarantine or whether we have it, I don't know," Trump said during a call-in appearance on Fox News' "Hannity."
He added, "I just went for a test and we'll see what happens, I mean, who knows. ... I spent a lot of time with Hope and so does the first lady, and she's tremendous."
While it's unclear what the President's "quarantine process" will look like, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines state that a 14-day quarantine should take place after the last known exposure to someone who has tested positive for Covid-19. This is because the incubation period for the novel coronavirus can be up to two weeks.

News of Hicks' positive test comes amid continued efforts by the Trump administration to blatantly disregard science and best public health practices during the pandemic, with West Wing staff actively eschewing masks and the President defying recommendations from his own coronavirus task force, proceeding with a busy schedule of packed campaign ralies. Trump and his key aides have shown little interest in changing practices of his staff to meet the needs of the moment.

Trump, in his Fox News interview, speculated that Hicks could have contracted the virus from an interaction with a supporter.
"She's a very warm person. She has a hard time, when soldiers and law enforcement comes up to her, you know, she wants to treat them great, not say, 'Stay away, I can't get near you.' It's a very, very tough disease," he said.
A source close to Hicks told CNN that she is experiencing symptoms and is back in Washington. A source familiar with Hicks' symptoms describes her as being achy and feeling pretty bad. CNN has reached out to Hicks for comment.

"The President takes the health and safety of himself and everyone who works in support of him and the American people very seriously," White House spokesman Judd Deere told CNN in a statement when asked about the level of contact between Hicks and Trump.
The White House made no mention of Hicks by name, nor did it confirm she had tested positive.

"White House Operations collaborates with the Physician to the President and the White House Military Office to ensure all plans and procedures incorporate current CDC guidance and best practices for limiting COVID-19 exposure to the greatest extent possible both on complex and when the President is traveling," Deere added.
Some White House staffers who were in close proximity were notified of the positive test result today, one official said.
This development was first reported by Bloomberg News.

Long seen as a stabilizing force on a boss who likes chaos, Hicks joined the Trump Organization working in public relations with Ivanka Trump and moved to Trump's 2016 presidential campaign early in the race. She was one of the few aides to follow him from his political beginnings to the White House.
Hicks maintained a close relationship not just with the President but also with members of his family, including White House advisers Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner. She previously served as the White House communications director.
Hicks' positive test underscores the unique challenge White House staffers face as they try to keep the pandemic out of the West Wing while the President pushes to reopen the country.
In May, two White House staffers, including a member of the Navy who serves as one of Trump's personal valets, tested positive for the virus, and in July a cafeteria employee on the White House grounds tested positive as well. The President confirmed a fourth positive case on White House grounds last month.

Trump has previously expressed concern that aides contracting coronavirus would undercut his message that the outbreak is waning and states should accelerate reopening, according to a person who had spoken with him.
The White House has since gone to great lengths to shield Trump and Vice President Mike Pence from the outbreak, even as they travel to states where cases are surging.
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany previously described Trump as the "most tested man in America," who doesn't risk spreading the virus to others. But Trump contradicted that claim hours later, saying he doesn't know of a time he's taken more than one coronavirus test in a day.
"I don't know about more than one," Trump responded to a reporter who asked why he was tested more than once a day. "I do probably on average a test every two days, three days, and I don't know of any time I've taken two in one day, but I could see that happening."
This story has been updated with additional developments on Thursday night and Friday morning.

Lipscomb:
Although you have already know answer to your question.
But my Nigerian greatest hero is Rashid yekini popularly known as mathematical

Rashidi Yekini was born in 1963, on October 23.Yekini scored 37 goals as a Nigerian international, and represented the nation in five major tournaments, including two World Cups where he scored the country's first-ever goal in the competition.

Rashidi Yekini was an exceptional footballer. He was thrown up by the system we had in place in the country then and flourished as footballer for both club and country

Although I believe that Nigeria can reproduce another Yekini but unfortunately the structure in place in the country now does not permit such.
@Lipscomb...which answer do you think we already knew?

There is none among the present crop of leaders that merit that accolade. However,if I am to make a choice on impulse,I will single out the fearless, disciplined and ruthless Gen.Tunde Idiagbon as the only personality that exudes the Nigerian self confidence of greatness.
Contrary to popular sentiment and assumption,Gen.Buhari wasn't the original brain behind most of the holistic reforms and programs like WAI(War Against Indiscipline),executed during the Buhari/Idiagbon military regime of 1983/1985.They were the ideas of his then no-nosense de-facto number two,Gen.Idiagbon.Core societal values such as discipline, punctuality, accountability and transperancy held preeminence in Nigeria.Looters and political desperadoes in the political sphere were subjected to the brutal wrath of the law.Our economy then, though not perfect, got rid of economic saboteurs and made steady progress until the IBB-led military junta displace the regime.
All these were at the imprimatur of Gen.Idiagbon and not Buhari.Hence,my choice of Idiagbon.Thank you.
Interesting Perspective.
