One of the 62 miscreants arrested during a raid at Oshodi and its environs by the Lagos State Task Force, weekend, Gani Yusuf, 35, disclosed that they paid N100 everyday to their ring leader for a space to sleep under the Oshodi Bridge, Another, Gbenga Ololade, 38, who came from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, said he had been sleeping under Oshodi Bridge for three years, saying he was initiated into cultism with a particular tattoo on his face by their group leader, under the bridge. The raid, according to Chairman of the Task Force, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi, was part of ongoing efforts to flush out miscreants and other criminal elements out of Oshodi in particular and the state in general, adding that it was done on the directive of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who expressed concern over the spate of criminal activities in some parts of the state. He said: “Many of them have different tattoos on their arms indicating they belong to a particular sect or cult. Others chain smokers among them rob residents and pedestrians of their valuables such as phones, wallets and jewelleries, early morning and late at night.” The Chairman added that the suspects were screened, during which the minors, who were between 12 and 17 years, were referred to the juvenile homes for rehabilitation. Informing that the suspects had been charged to court on the directive of Edgal, Egbeyemi hinted that after the completion of all ongoing projects by Lagos State government around Oshodi, there would no longer be any hideout for criminals to unleash terror on innocent members of the public again. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/10/we-pay-n100-daily-to-sleep-under-oshodi-bridge-miscreants/

- Members of NUJ and RATTAWU in Adamawa state have debunked a media report about Gotel Communications Limited - The unions denied a report suggesting that the company, owned by Atiku Abubakar, is owing members of the staff a month’s salary - They also denied claims that the former vice president has a care-free attitude towards the company Members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) chapters of Gotel Communications Limited, Yola, Adamawa state have debunked a media report alleging that the company, owned by the Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, is owing members of the staff a month’s salary. The unions also described as wicked, the claim in the report that the former vice president has a care-free attitude towards the company. In a statement jointly signed by the chairmen, RATTAWU, NUJ, Mohammed Ahmed Mustapha and Muhammad Aliyu Mustapha, respectively, the union said the true position of events at Gotel Communication is that“those who were dis-engaged completely were paid their severance allowances.” The union also said that those who resigned did so based on their personal interests of searching for greener pasture and were not disengaged as claimed by the online medium, Part of the statement read:“It is untrue that our members are in distress over non-payment of severance benefits. The dis-engagement and re-absorption exercise took place in 2016. Those dis-engaged completely, were paid their severance allowances. “The re-absorbed members of staff were issued with dis-engagement letters and payment of the terminal benefits is ongoing, according to the understanding to implement the payment plan in phases. “The statements credited to the chairman of the restructuring committee to the effect that, the management would not pay the re-absorbed workers their severance allowances is diametrically opposed to the reality on ground at GOTEL Communication as payment has since begun in phases. “Those who resigned did so not because of the situation in Gotel, but in search for greener pasture, which is normal and obtains in every organization. Members of our unions are not being owed one month salary as speculated in the poorly investigated report. The organization is up-to-date in terms of salary payment.”Meanwhile, former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has commended former President Olusegun Obasanjo for making peace with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Comrade Frank, who also defended the presence of some religious leaders at the peace meeting in Abeokuta, said all the leaders of note across the country, irrespective of political and religious affiliation, have now accepted the candidacy of Atiku Abubakar as a consensus president to be. In a statement sent to journalists on Friday, October 12, the former APC spokesman said history will never forget those leaders who came together to rescue the nation from the current incompetent handlers. Abubakar Bello,’’ Imam said. The APC chieftain said that the forum would give the party the opportunity to also inform its supporters on judicious utilisation of funds allocated to the state to provide dividends democracy to the governed. “Gov. Abubakar has reformed our educational sector through the re-construction of classrooms, learning facilities and motivation of teachers, ‘’ he said. Imam explained that the only legacy any responsible government would leave behind for future generation was provision of qualitative and sound education, which the present administration was fully committed to. He also said that the present administration had provided state-of-the-art facilities in all health institutions for effective health care delivery. “We have done very well in agriculture with the provision of tractors and farming implements for our farmers at subsidised rates, roads construction, youth empowerment, among others,’’ the APC chieftain said. Imam urged the electorate in the state to vote for continuity in order to consolidate on the ongoing changes that would set the state on the path of progress. “Gov. Abubakar has proved beyond reasonable doubt to be a committed, progressive leader in providing democracy dividends to our people irrespective of political, tribal and religious differences. “We are also mobilising our supporters to shun any form of political violence and thuggery as well money bags politicians during the forthcoming general elections. “As progressives, it is not in our character to engage in any act capable of bringing confusion but to work toward promoting our party’s lofty ideals. “Anybody seeking elective positions and offer you money, collect it. It is your money that was supposed to be used in providing democracy dividend but was diverted because of corruption,’’ he said. A PDP presidential aspirant and former Senate President, David Mark, says he will support any aspirant that wins the party’s presidential primaries scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt, Rivers. Mark stated this on Monday in Dutse, Jigawa capital, when he addressed party supporters. He solicited the support of the party members and urged them to give him their mandate during the primaries to enable him to fly the party’s flag in the 2019 general election. “I am an aspirant seeking for your support but if I do not get it I am still ready to support anybody that emerges as candidate. We will struggle and get back power from the All Progressives People Congress (APC). “Power comes from God; I have never left PDP. I will continue to be in PDP because it is the only party that can bring development in Nigeria,” he said. Earlier in a speech, the PDP Chairman in Jigawa, Alhaji Salisu Kuit, said that the party supporters in the state were behind Mark’s aspiration. “This is because you are a fine politician, a gentleman and a detribalised person who performed excellently during your tenure as Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” “We would have given you our automatic ticket but Lamido is also contesting; however we are all one family and we will continue to be one family one,” he said. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/i-will-support-any-aspirant-that-wins-pdp-presidential-ticket-sen-mark.html

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has begun screening of more than 15,000 applicants for various positions in Kaduna State in its ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise. The officer in charge of the exercise in Kaduna, Assistant Corps Marshal Susan Ajenge, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that the exercise would last for five days. Ajenge said that out of the 15,000 applicants, 8,000 had first degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), National Certificate in Education (NCE) and National Diploma, while the remaining had secondary school certificate. “We will screen applicants’ certificates and check their height, chest and feet to ensure they are physically fit and healthy,” she said. Ajenge said that those who applied but did not receive e-mail from FRSC inviting them for the screening exercise, could also come for the exercise. “They should not forget to come along with their credentials, application print out and other relevant documents. “We want to give everybody equal opportunity. As long as such persons meet the minimum requirements and have applied, they should come; we will screen them,’’ she said. Some of the applicants, who spoke with NAN, described the exercise as smooth, orderly and well-coordinated. One of the applicants, Mr Saidi Yekine, said that he was impressed with how the exercise was organised. He said that the exercise was not stressful and there was no intimidation. “We were treated with all the respect we deserved. In fact, the orderliness and the good human relations displayed by the FRSC officials made me to love the job even more,’’ Yekine said. Miss Amarachukwu Ubosiogu, another applicant, gave FRSC a pass mark in the conduct of the screening exercise, which she described as excellent. “We were treated well. No harassment or any form of victimisation. “The officials are friendly and assisting us in any way they can with love. I really commend them for a well-organised exercise, ‘’ Ubosiogu said. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/recruitment-frsc-screens-15000-applicants-in-kaduna.html

Local government workers in Kogi State have called on the state government to ensure 100 percent regularization of their salaries. The council workers however eulogizing the state government for paying their salaries up to August, urged them to look into unpaid arrears from previous administrations, The State chairmen of Local Government Employee, NULGE, National Union of Teachers, NUT and the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, M&HWUN, Tade Adeyemi, Thomas Ayodele and Onuh Edoka respectively made this known in a joint statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja yesterday. The statement read apart, “Efforts being made by government to overcome the challenges of inherited liabilities, especially in the areas of salary arrears owed workers is quite commendable; the workforce in the local government appreciate the efforts made by the Ministry of Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs in ensuring that salaries of local government are paid up to August 2018. “The decision of government to raise the bar of the level of salary being paid in which no worker in the local government takes less than 54% is noted with appreciation. However, government should take cognizance of the percentages of salary yet to be paid by the previous and present administrations and make effort to clear them as soon as possible. “That government is enjoined to continue this gesture and not relent until the payment of 100% is regularized in the local government. And government should include on the payroll the names of all staff and teachers that have been cleared, but are yet to be captured on the payroll while the cases of the uncleared undergoing review should be resolved without further delay.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/09/kogi-council-workers-lauds-govt-on-up-to-date-salary-payment/
