vickychuk: Nice one @Ishaqteejay. I'm following you and vanpeele bumper to bumper. No wahala....when you've graduated (harvested), make it a duty to teach others. You can start with teachers in your community or state..they're very positive(most of them). You maybe shocked at the curiosity that follows. Your phone fit no rest... |

vickychuk: Actually I'm farming for the first time so haven't really had any experience with forliar fertilizer. I just got info on forliar feeding of cucumber plants while doing more research and decided to try it out. According to the research plants tend to absorb nutrients readily from their leave more than from roots. However forliar feeding can not substitute root fertilizer application totally. As for the picture will do that tomorrow. Ok....Foliar spray in the morning or evening. Afternoon is a no no |

bigcil2: If you have soil at your back yard , if you have animal dung , and if you're patient enough for like 90days
Then do the following:::
Plant tomatoe in your Backyard and stop complaining.
Be innovative for chikes sake.
In the meantime buy Tomatoe paste, cook less of stew (My Yoruba Bros and sis this might be complicated but not impossible) Learn how to cook soups that goes with rice , and you won't feel the scarcity at all.
P.S It's not a law that most things you cook must have tomatoes.
Remain blessed May the God of Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad (peace be upon them all) continue to bless you. You don finish work. |

vickychuk: Liquid fertilizer to be sprayed on the plants when they have more foliage. Hand sprayer to substitute for knapsack sprayer till I save up to buy one. Attacke pesticide to fight off the insects and NPK fertilizer to be fed to the plants on biweekly bases. Your liquid fertilizer, how effective is it...that's if you've used it before. Can you please take a closer picture of it? Thanks |

Pavore9: True. It is just that Nigerians refuse to latch on opportunities even when it is staring at them! A word is enough for the wise. Moving forward, food won't get better or cheaper if we don't make it better or cheaper ourselves. We've to start growing what we eat. #urbanfarming #sustainability At least me and you don dey that club Tai Tai. |

Pavore9: It is a matter of personal interest as this can be replicated in any part of Nigeria and it is not only limited to cucumbers as one can grow Capiscum, Tomatoes, Ugu, Butternut Squash, Strawberries, Okro and so many other crops using these same bags........interest is the keyword! Even yam sef. |

lagbaja: You have to leave the poultry waste wet for 6 month to compost before you can use it. To make the process faster, mix with wood shavings or saw dust. Mix them every week to fasten the process. To test the readiness, it should not generate heat anymore and should not be smelly. Drying it will not allow it to compost. ok thanks....Will try it out |

vickychuk: I was able to fill the remaining 70 bags yesterday so I have 170 bags for starts. Will add more if I can get the murano seeds. So for now the farm has 680 plants excluding the ones I planted on the ground.Luckily for me it rained yesterday after planting though I watered lightly after sowing. I'll go check on them by Saturday and replant were necessary .Lots of pictures coming up if network allows. Kudos to your efforts. From my experience with super marketer, it doesn't like morning dew or water on its leaves. It dries them out. |

vickychuk: Was thinking of creating a thread for my cucumber sack farming experience but after much thought I decided to share it on here on the motivator's thread. Hope I'm welcome Oga vanpeele ?
Most of the requirements for the farm are in place but due to the murano scarcity I've decided to go for a heirloom cucumber variety... Though I know the murano may catch up to the super marketer variety I'm planting when they arrive.
Going to finish the bagging tomorrow and sow the seeds. Then cutting bamboo for the trellis on Tuesday.
I love the concept of sack farming because of its numerous benefits as listed by the OP but I think the greatest of all the benefits is growing so much on so little space. I'll ake a rough measurement of the area I'm planting 1000 crops so as to let you guys understand this more. It'll be an honour and my pleasure if you place your progress here. |

Silvereze: I like what you're doing, kudos. Meanwhile I am an agric student, studying crop science in UNIBEN. my blog is www.naijafarmer..com please check out my blog. I LOVE AGRIC Nice blog. Seems you focus mainly on livestock. In my opinion, poultry and fish aren't profitable except if the people buying after you've laboured buy it at a good price. Managing crops is easier. Regarding life, goats, sheep and cows are better. They're easier to manage (IMO) than fish and chicken. More grease to you blog elbows. |
