I will appreciate your clarification and opinion on the following.
First, having used both the vertical and horizontal trellis, which will you say is better in terms of helping the cucumber growth. How easy did the vines find their way or you helped the vines to use the horizontal trellis? It's obvious the horizontal trellis is easier and cheaper.
Second, for now, I like Tokyo F1 for everything but wouldn't mind going for a better variety IF there is any. First harvest of Tokyo usually comes at 6weks, but from your video your first harvest Murano was at 7 weeks. Is it a deliberate action or Tokyo matures faster than Murano? How about the yield, which is more productive? Third, what type of sack gives you the 23 bags in first harvest?
1. Horizontal. A net is best. 2. They found it easy. Some I helped. 3. Well, I harvest when I think it's due. Don't really care if it's 6 or 9 weeks. 4. They're both productive. Murano is bigger. 5. Chicken feed
Arvinkris: U had 4 plants for ur first project, how many per Sack in the second project of 2k sacks? How can one get access to the thick polvbag u used? Thanks in anticipation
babakk2: Vanpeele abeg which pesticides did you use because mine encounter pests in large quantity because the poultry waste that use attract more pest. Please help oooo
I used fighter before flowering and neem oil after flowering.
Pavore9: The change begins with us not having to wait on the inconsistency of the government and creating our own empowerment. I will in a later day get the guy's contact from you so l can refer someone to visit his farm.
ok no p
Government? We're the government. Those elected officials are our servants on a 4 year renewable contract. Empowerment starts with us employers not our employees.
Pavore9: Bros, na so you con mention my name for the video of 1st Harvest!
if you can ship it down to Lagos, imagine what those which such free space in Lagos can achieve with it!
Lol..we gas mention am.
Some already are achieving it. Like a NLander currently in Lagos who started with 1500 sacks he made twice his investment. Now he has 3500 and will scale to 8000. He's chilling right now.
Preciousseed: Vanpeele, please in place of organic fertilizer, like the poultry droppings and cow dung, can one use inorganic? like NPK? Does it have any effect on the crop? Thanks!
atanda2001uk: @vanpee. congratulations. I have started my own farm with just 900bags but my fear is market for cucumber. I am thinking of planting water melon. what do you think? I am at Ibadan.
There are a lot of farmers in Ibadan, so you guys can come together and open a farmers market where everything is sold by the kilos. The excess you send to Lagos. I'm not the one to tell you what to plant. You've to tell yourself. If you don't try anything, you won't learn anything.
atanda2001uk: @vanpeele. Pls how often is the harvesting of cucumbers going to take place? every week or 5days? what about water melon? I need your quick response pls.
I harvested 23 bags from my 2K sacks (1st harvest). I can categorically say that cucumber sack farming is a very very very lucrative business. I urge you all to try it. I'll be moving unto a more lucrative crop and scale down on my cukes but they'll always be a regular in my year-round growing season.
Preciousseed: Hmmm, with all these testimonies about sack farming? well, am heading thus your version for the first time oooo. @Vanpeele, @world1, @Jasper7, @Jethro, and all the gurus your voice is needed here. Not withstanding, am going to do my own experiment on sack farming asap. Don't you think there might be something you didn't get right? May asking the gurus will help.
Preciousseed: Op thanks for this thread. Most especially the area you gave the cost estimate. That has been my fear! Once again, thanks! But there is a place you stated that we should not use poultry droppings, rather you advocated for cow dung! Please why can't we use poultry droppings? Because I think Jasper uses it
Poultry droppings haven't worked well with me and my cukes, even the most composted ones. With that said, others have reported it works for them. So I maybe unlucky with it.
Refraction: God will indeed bless ur effort. pls can excess rainfall cause a cucumber plant 2 have yellow spots on d leaves which later shrinks n causes d crop 2 die before time of production. what would u prescribe 4 disease control?
You mentioned Tokyo for areas with a lot of rainfall cos it's highly resistant to downy mildew but what is the yield and size compared to the F1 Murano you've planted?
Thanks.
How about your potato experiment?
Regarding yield and size, you can try it and let us know. I don't have all the answers.
The potatoes sprouted couple of days ago and they're doing fine.
biggal: Pls you people will not know what you are doing here until one day. God knows dat agric section family is a dear family to me. @Vanpeele I have tried your tomato preservation. God bless you soooo much. Ishtaaq You are already blessed by God. I know d devil will be weakening you ppl from posting here pls resist d devil. You all are touching lives. Others I can't mention you all are great. God bless your family abundantly.
Thanks and I'm glad you're part of the progressive ones.
