I've been coming here to read the things you've been writing for the past 1week.
You have succeeded in luring me back here with your beautiful write up.

I must say you've done a wonderful work, especially the one on Buccaneers. I also can see that the so called Buccaneers have all gone into hiding.

Ignore the naysayers pls.

If you have more to say pls fire on.

Erayo is also a NBM word which means fire. Probably was borrowed from NBM since they also started in same Benin.
You are correct. Erayo means fire.. If erayo no dey CP no go dey. Na one of axemen tongues and many more.. Erayo ___ fire (chants)

*The birth of multiple confraternities in the university community / society*
the pirates confraternity was striving
well at the University of Ibadan until 1972
when the leader there commited an offence
and in attempt to escape the penalty that the
said leader supposed to have serve he went out
of the Pirates confraternity as established
Buccaneers association.
Later, the founder of this splinter group "Bolaji Carew" became a provost in one of the nations college of education.
With thus decay from the same stock, Buccaneers confraternity were seen more or less as the younger brothers of pirates confraternity.
About the same period, another group supreme eiye confraternity "SEC" a loose drinking club similar to the Palm Wine Drinkers Club but different from it splintered and started operations (1963) at the same university.
Later on the at the university of Benin during the 1977/78 academic session decaying from the black power movement, a civil rights Africa consciousness was born.
Also, at the university of calabar, in 1983 the klans confraternity was formed by a group of 5 students. That is the reason klans still has a string hold in Cross river today
Along the line the S.V.C founded at the university of port Harcourt by a firmer buccaneer member in 1984 a splinter of the old pirate/buccaneer stock..
Klans like someone said earlier went on to have a splinter group such as deebam the vikings in order to contain the excesses of these groups brought about deewell and Icelanders splinter groups.
We have over 100s but I just stated the pioneers of university confraternities.. ... ...
Having of these excesses went beyond imaginary doubt because we owe such menace of this group to our past and present leaders. Before them, inter fraternal disputes were dealtg with at most physical fisticuffs and the height use of knifes.
But during IBB regime, the coup of Gen. Buhari in 1984 caused a large degree of political tension. Military leaders, beginning in the 1980s, began to see the confraternities as a check on the student unions and university staff, who were the only organized groups opposing military rule. The confraternities were thus provided payment and weapons to use against student activists, though the weapons were often used in deadly inter-confraternity rivalries... Point 1 when it all went wrong
Point 2 -- Some university vice-chancellors protected confraternities which were known to be violent and used them to attack students deemed troublesome.
[1] During this period the confraternities introduced a new tradition of carrying out traditional religious practices, including Vodoo, before any other activity. Perhaps in reaction to the changes, in 1984 Wole Soyinka declared that the Seadogs should not operate on any university.. He tried to control the excesses but it was to late because that rash decision they made in 1952 has born a lot of fruits in the society as average Nigerian students saw the sweetness in fraternal gatherings.
Fraternity was sane till the middle 80s

Well it has already caused more harm than good. Fraternities are no longer what it used to be. Back when we had only one standing fraternity in 1952.
Today, we have over 100s of gangs that sprouted out as a result of campus fraternity. It so sad that the decline in pursuit of academic goals and pursuit for yield of power and recognitions has affected the society today. The thread came out to enlighten us about the danger of secret cult which in my own term I won't describe them as cults but mere gangs as they have been reduced from fraternal activities to a gathering of various evil individuals.
I would like to give a brief breakdown about how the mess started tho:
Pirates Confraternity founded in 1952
in the University of Ibadan by a group of seven students
including Prof. WoIe Soyinka who was the
Head of the maiden group referred to as the
original seven. And the basis of the Piratical
aims was two folds. First to fight social ills and
the conformist degradation within and
outside university campus. Second, to
abhor conventions as is rendered in the slogan
Down with conventions "orders has to be
orders"

I have been working on Sociolinguistics (the connection between language and society) for a while now. I'm currently at the doctoral level. I have done ample research on religious and violent cults and gangs in the Western world. The next phase of my research is to look at how language is deliberately used to create "belonging" and remove "outsiders" in Nigerian cult-formations. When I found this thread, I was glad. I learnt some things from the experiences recounted here.
Let me add this, the adoption of the name sequel to BAN "SEA LORDS" as against PC confraternity they broke out from "SEA DOGS" was brought about thus.
"every dog has a master, and that master is his lord".//
this statement was to show supremacy between them and PC. Due to circumstances involved in separation of BAN from PC. You see statement of seeing the light. They meant the light BAN has by brought as opposed to which the PC limited them to...
Let me drop here tho.. Nice write up

Without anybody batting an eyelid. This is so unreal
Not likely, it depends on the case as it maybe.. Like I just used the case of 2017 stuff wetin bn sup. You can be fortunate enough, if your case might not go out well. Not every case ends in DSS hands if na police or sojo simple bailing go solve am

But police catch u lots every day for doing nothing and u still pay bail, so what's your argument??
So you think cultism ends in the uni right?
Now you are saying the same thing, police go arrest person illegally when you are innocent, talkless of when you are guilty guy police man or sojo no go reason with you if dem jam gun 4 ur hand.. There are many cases of DSS holding people illegally. So if OP tell u say na 30 yrs incarceration no dey dismantle wetin im talk if u truly want make d shun cultism... You can be locked up and forgotten you dont necessary need to be in a court before they try u. DSS get their own prison and i don talk of how NANS election bn go 2017 4 Bayelsa DT year wetin dem do those boys.

And yes I insist its people like u that sallow everything you hear that makes people like the op bold enough to spew that rubbish.
I dont care about what nonsense you are trying to defend because I know you are not blind that I highlighted your last post that you dragged with SARS officers. I repeat if you are caught a cultist don't think you have rights to fight for yourself because them you waste you like fowl.
You only had the power to drag because you were right and that is what I highlighted..
Now in reference to your last sentence I dropped a long message about DSS involvement in cultism. You can read about it.

You knew your rights because you were right. What if you were caught as a cultist with gins and ammunitions will you have the power to drag with them? If they take out their phones and video you can u say anything? We are talking about criminals caught you are talking about your right??
You should have watched a video that went viral after 4 SARS officer killed 2 thieves in a minibus in Lagos. They didn't drag because they were criminals. Instead they were killed like chickens.
What about the ones that were shot around April when they went for robbery. Imagine policemen shooting unarmed robbers in this country.
This is Nigeria dont come and defend anything you don't know. Right kor right ni. No go say dem no tell you. DSS no go com your house com drag you, if you are caught in any initiations like the op said they can kill the person and nothing you can do about it. Who don die don die go. Na naija we dey DSS go come out defend their own but you who go defend you? After all na u dem find 4 Bush.

EducationNo Resumption Date For Schools In View Yet, Says Lagos State Commissioner by Vanzcharles(op):
#PUNCHSNEWSTODAY

"Lagos State Commissioner of Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, has said the resumption of schools in the state would be decided by the Federal Government.

Adefisayo who spoke on Thursday at a virtual meeting, titled, ‘A discussion on guidelines for school resumption’ said that the state would not unilaterally open schools.

The meeting was organised by Association of International School Educators of Nigeria and was moderated by Mrs Kofoworola Karunwi.

“We don’t know resumption date yet. The FG shut down schools in Lagos and Ogun states and we have the largest number of cases and deaths . So I cannot give an unequivocal answer. All I know is that we want the children to keep learning and most schools are already doing online and it is not a jolly ride. The Lagos State Government is also having both online and radio classes.”

Adefisayo also told the participants at the meeting that the government did not have the financial capacity to support schools financially due to the pandemic which has affected the budget of the state.

“We can’t at this point support schools, our budget as a ministry has been cut down by 30 per cent. We are re-strategising and the state cannot do as much as we would have loved to. The government has spoken to the banks and you can go to your banks they’ll assist. I don’t think people should rely on the government at this moment because government is also suffering from lack of funds”.

TAKE HOME:
*Government doesn't have financial capacity to support schools.
*Nobody should rely on government because government is suffering from lack of fund
*Resumption date is not in view.

I know we'll not die of hunger by God's grace. Let's continue adding values to ourselves and devising other means of income.
We shall surely win this war.

Let me clear the air on the controversy of DSS sentencing someone to 30 yrs imprisonment when caught in an initiation ground.
Those of you saying DSS dont involve thselves in such issues, DSS dont directly involve themselves in searching of cultist in the country but they act on tip offs before they make move. I have seen this that's why I am talking.
There was a particular incident that happened in my school institution in 2018. That was the period of sug elections. Prior to that day they were cult clashes on that fateful day, some hoodlums swung to action to scatter the whole process in all faculties of the school. The school vc put some call across and members of the Department state service came in around 4 : pm to the faculty of science.
By their arrival, most if the boys causing mayhem fled the scene... Their OGA who was present with them came to address and said he didn't come with violence because he believed this was a school environment but he made emphasis if anyone was caught, he would be taking to abuja straight up.
Another incident happened in 2017 NANS election that turned out bloody in Otuoke, Bayelsa. I wouldn't go into details about that, after the war between some cultist from NDU, FUO and Uniuyo. Note: A uniuyo law student was killed in FUO and some of his members on hearing it traveled all the way from uyo to take hit in Bayelsa in which they succeeded.
On their return, they were accosted by the Police force who were ordered by the state governor yo return normalcy.. In the statement of the governor of Bayelsa state he said he would not tolerate or forgive them... They returned in the same bus of other uniuyo students who had gone earlier.
They were stopped at yenogoa, and were searched about 5 of them had weapons on them were arrested and transfered to the department of state service. All 5 students were on 4.0 cgpa scale and mostly final year students * who says cultist dont graduate with good grades*.
They were transferred to Abuja till date they are still in custody except anyone who may have found his way out ..this is Nigeria tho.
If you come here to argue DSS dont arrest or hold people. One you are caught they would transfer you to underground prison in Abuja no one would know about it. No info to your parents or so.. This is Nigeria atleast we are not ignorant about the unconstitutional arrest everyday by the security bodies.. Act wise and shun cultism.

Reminds me of something similar... Back then in uni, I lived off campus. There was this guy in my hostel that was so strict , he monitors who comes in and out, expects the gates to be locked by 8PM and opened by 6AM etc. It was a very big "Villa" with lots of occupants. Villa was what we called hostels in the uni. He was so strict with the nonsense I began to think he was even the caretaker coz to make matters worse, he no even dey go class lol so It was so difficult to know he was even a student not until one day I see am for my department wan write carry over course wey he borrow lol. That was where my hatred and disrespect for him began coz i hate people who are too bossy and form alpha male. I Sha calm down small when I discovered he was an eiye member ... But during one incident like that he slapped a female housemate coz she refused to lock the gate after going out at night. Person wey Dem slap sef no even react , she even dey beg am join and as I witnessed the scene from my window, I was like wtf is this.. . I noticed nobody confronted him for that, I was the only one that tried to not until someone told me to be careful with him and told me who he was. Their number 3 for school lol.
