chrisagyei: great seeing these photos of factories springing up.I thought this whole 1 district 1 factory agenda was in dormant and it's sad the media hardly reports on such progress and I hope the necessary funds and resources are provided for the smooth operations of these factories.Building over 200 factories in a spate of 4 to 8 years is not a joke initiative. I hope it's a Public-Private Projects initiative. When it comes to public awareness, i realised the Npp goverment is very poor unlike NDC goverment who will by now turn GBC to official political platform. and i also realised the media house are more interested in the political tension rather than helping the Goverment to fulfilled her agenda. in a nut shell, there is little publication about the country progress but more on her negativity. As I am typing, over 51 factory are under construction excluding the numerous project going on in the country like road, port expansion ( both tema and Takoradi) new inland port project and the president has cut sod of many project ( housing and mordern terminal especially) the agenda of one district one factory is to have functional industry within the 216 district so that Accra and tema will be relax of continuous migration. it is estimated to employ over 1 million youth and about 3 million people indirectly when finalised.. As at now the ""government has released GH¢465 million(220 million dollar) for the commencement of the one-district-one-factory project. It has also released GH¢256 million ( 95 million dollar) for the revamping of 100 private commercially viable and distressed companies throughout the country"". the whole 1 district 1 factory is both private and Goverment initiative. The private donate and the Goverment support it with incentives |

theenchanter: which cement producer is dominat in Ghana and what's it's market share?
Found out dangote cement is d preferred choice in Ghana. https://pricesghana.com/top-10-cement-companies-in-ghana/ Yes dangote cement has gotten her own share size of the market thru his lower price. but i am tempted to say Ghacem and diamond hold the major market share. they are house hold name. Dangote cement is not common here in the north. Savannah and Ghacem leads. Dangote is actually doing well down south. Even in Ghana dangote attempt to monopolize the industry . the dude is really scared of competition.

Just30: Ghanaians weren't buying Dangote cement
Dangote only managed to gained a 1- 2% market share.
Cement manufacturers were pissed because he was flooding the market, creating an over capacity which led to a price collapse and everyone was making losses.
if you understand economics, you will know what im talking about.
Basically, Dangote was practising dumping in order to collapse manufacturers in Ghana. He was so desperate such that He was even selling cement at a lower cost in Ghana than he was selling in Nigeria
that is desperation |

chrisagyei: what I know is according to videos on YouTube and people's experience,Kenya and Nairobi especially is far developed than any city in Ghana including Accra. About quality of life,Ghana looks very good on paper and good in actual living. We have implemented national policies that benefits the masses such as universal free basic health, free compulsive education from basic to secondary education, national youth employment schemes that employs and trains millions of our youth, massive infrastructure development, there's national access to basic infrastructure such as uninterrupted power supply, various treated pipe borne water installation,in fact our poverty rate is about 21% which is one of the lowest in the continent, etc etc just as any progressive sub Sahara African nations such as Kenya,Tanzania, Botswana,Rwanda, Namibia and others keep experiencing but we are somehow a little lower population of about 30 million people with very large different natural resources but as you said little value is added to these natural resources for exportation. All the same Kenya and Tanzania is huge and progressive so they definitely have bigger infrastructure and projects and since there is little natural resources to export, they mainly concentrate on local generation revenues such as massive service industry and tourism. Nigeria never impresses me when it comes to anything positive since they're over reliance on oil thus give very little concern to internal and external avenues that takes in huge revenue and possibly reduce youth unemployment.East Africa is doing impressive on that angle especially Kenya,Tanzania, Rwanda and Ethiopia i will have to visit Nairobi one day to have a first hand experience of the city. i don't debate what i don't know. but if it is about social development and citizens welfare . Ghana rival now are only north Africa country...... competitively Ghana will edge south Africa in some areas of human progress.... |

chrisagyei: Actually, Ghana exports far more than Kenya although you're right about majority of it being minerals buh Kenya is not much different with majority of Kenyans exports being primary natural products buh Ghana's economy is not a small economy because it's currently among top ten in Africa and industries make up 24% of Ghana 's economy. The GDP PPP of Ghana is 190 billion dollars. That is not a small economy.Ghana is among the top ten exports country in Africa and is number 7 I am sorry kenya economy is also commodity driven with less portfolio compare to Ghana. |

pacretus: But to Vaxx. I hope you know, that the percentage of Nigeria's GDP that is not-oil based is bigger than Ghanas GDP, which is only based on export of gold , Cocoa and other raw materials. Yes when you factor in population. population has help nigeria in that area but when you put it in per capital income, Nigeria dwarf. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by vaxx: 10:31am On Aug 05, 2019 |
rvp20182: The reality is you're dependent on commodities - mining, oil and cocoa - if any of those go down - your economy goes down. The real test of a diversified economy - is no single sector brings down an economy. Nigeria obviously the worst case because if oil drops to 10 dollars today - that country will be wiped off the face of earth. Ghana has had similar issues before - because if gold or bauxite or cocoa goes down - their economy also go bankrupt.
Now look at Kenya - even in agriculture - we are talking about 100 plus products that we exports. In manufacturing - we are exporting so many products - in service sectors - we have very advanced and mature sector - ict, retail, hotel, aiports, tourism, real estates, education, media.
That is why Kenya with very little if any minerals is able to grow at 6% comfortably year in year out - crisis or no crisis. majority of africa economy are commodity driven economy including south Africa (which is regarded as the most industrious economy).Ghana is presently undergoing industrialization. 1 district 1 factory initiative policy. it is a way of adding value to the commodity produce.. Ghana already knows natural resources will deplete and hence birth the current industrialization. Ghana farming was similar to that of Ethiopia. it is severe dry spell and bush fires which resulted in a grim famine and not a downward production of commodity. You may need to go check up what is happening in agriculture sector in Ghana. i can guaranty you Ghana export every agriculture commodity kenya produce . ranging from flower and coffee . Ghana financial sector is currently the second largest in west africa behind Nigeria. Ghana is a leading giant in ICT. Ghana is only behind Egypt and south Africa in education sector. Ghana rakes a lot of income on education. tourism in Ghana is second to none in west africa. Ghana media is also excellent at least in africa sense. at the end of it Ghana portfolio of income is well diversified. and only south africa may be leading her in that category in sub Saharan . |

rvp20182: I am not sure if you understand what sophistication of an economy is. Exporting so many minerals doesn't make you sophisticated. Those are primary extraction no brain sectors.
Sophistication come from stuff like value-addition in agriculture, manufacturing (industry), financial services and other service sectors - outside Egypt and South Africa - Kenya is obviously the star there.
African trade remains centred on the three countries that have an appreciable manufacturing base — South Africa, Kenya and Egypt. African financial services remains centred on these countries — South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya and Mauritus. Nigeria insurance and pension is at it's infancy though. diversification is one of the element of sophistication. Yes sophistication tends to be what brain can make rather than what is given naturally. Ghana is currently embarking on massive industrialization. the brain behind the 1 district 1. factory that the Goverment is piloting. currently , Manufacturing represent the third-largest industrial segment of her economy , at GHS671.1m ($160.7m), up 6.6% on the previous year. Ghana automobile and aluminium production is improving daily. ( in agriculture, few country in africa will have added more value to her product than Ghana.). |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by vaxx: 8:18am On Aug 05, 2019 |
rvp20182: That doesn't make Ghana sophisticated.Ghana is heavily reliant on minning, cocoa & now oil..I think outside South Africa - Egypt and Kenya - are most sophisticated economies. Kenya export so many items - 2nd only to Egypt in COMESA. In my comparism, i already bar south Africa and I am limiting the discustion into sub saharan African. if my words serve me right. sophistication in this sense will mean diversification of economy. then Ghana earns and rake income from many sectors of her rich resources base. Ghana natural resources is diverse. . Ghana aluminium , textiles and horticulture export is very strong ( may be one of the top 4 in africa). what does kenya manufactured? Anyway branch at Ghana embassy in kenya this morning to ask for this below. it is chocolate bar .

pacretus: Diversity in terms of what exactly. what makes your economy more diversified? Gold or your new found oil.
Don't say things you can't prove.
Manufacturing activities in kano state alone, dwafs the whole of Ghana.
No African country has an economy more diversified than Nigeria's except South Africa.
This thread is useless,
All kenyans boast of is their tea and tourism and I thought they had a good tourism industry yet Nigeria earns from tourism more than Kenya. Both Ghana and Nigeria are natural resources dependable nation. but while oil alone contribute to about 87.7 percent of Nigeria export receipt and a very significant percentage of Nigeria GDP. Ghana on the other hand has oil, cocoa and gold fighting for the highest foreing receipt.. Gold is probably the highest. but it is not more than 44 percent of Ghana export receipt. Ghana has more than 10 natural resources contributing significantly to her GDP. and export earning. bauxite, manganese and timber export has risen of late. is there any manufacturing industry in kano apart from textile and leather production? . what is very abundant in Ghana North. stop the jokes of comparing kano to tema industrial area. only lagos will perform well. |

pacretus: Military coup crippled Nigerias economy for years so what excuse does Ghana and Kenya have for not Developing their country like Nigeria.
We just celebrated few years of Democracy While Ghana that gained independence before Nigeria ,had only one military coup and Kenya with no history of a military coup come here trying convince Us they have a better economy. That's pure Stu pidity if you'd ask me. this is a reason Nigeria most introduce history back to school. learn about your country and others too. Just in 1970s to 1980s . Ghana economy was referred to as back water. Ghana inflation was around 122.27 percent in 1983. the highest in the world as at that time. famine befall Ghana which is worst than millitary coup. ( I pray may Nigeria never experience what Ghana pass thru in 1983) it is worst than civil war. there was total massive famine in Ghana . no investors want to come because of money value and pay back assurance. . the country is not even attractive for buisness. Ghana immediate transformations begins just around 2000s. millitary coup is not totally bad for Nigeria. millitary built universities, creation for food and employment during both abacha and babangida time. infact nigeria recorded one of the best economic reformation during abaccha time. the only few thing lacking in his goverment was freedom of speech. it is even during millitary regime, Nigeria discovered massive oil . found in bayelsa state. Nigeria passport then suddenly became one of the best in africa because international country want to deal with a rich oil nation while Ghana on the other side was poor and Ghanaian were seen as beggars in the western word. but time suddenly fly and the history is now rewritten. |
