Now you're jumping into politicians - Kenya politician are equally as corrupt as Nigerians. I am talking international drug lords - Humprey Kariuki pretend to be a businessman - but he is mostly a drug king pin.

Many kenya drug lords are also politician- like current Mombasa & Nairobi Governors.

Nairobi governor - Mike Sonko - another drug kingpin

Drug is run by cartel. this cartel in west africa are run by people who are connected to the seat of power. ordinary Nigerians are those who are arrested daily or busted by international media .

you know what, i am laughing when you are about to compare Nigeria notoriously rich politicians to Kenya. let's just forget bro. you are showing me helicopter. when a former state governor owns a ship

I don't think you understand the kind of drug money we are talking about - cattle, farms, and mere mp.

Let me give you an example of kenya drug lord - Humprey Kariuki - he owns companies from Kenya to South Africa.

Humphrey Kariuki Ndegwa is one of Kenya’s most storied, yet elusive businessmen. Over the last three decades, Ndegwa, 60, has quietly built his company, the Janus Continental Group, into one of East Africa’s largest conglomerates while staying away from the limelight.

Modest in his personal life, calm in his demeanor, but audacious in business, Ndegwa has built a business conglomerate that includes The Hub - a premier shopping mall located in the beautiful leafy suburbs of Karen in Nairobi; Africa Spirits, Kenya’s leading manufacturer of Alcoholic beverages; Dalbit Petroleum, one of the largest oil distributors in East and Southern Africa, and Great Lakes Africa Energy, a U.K-based company that is a developer and operator of power projects in Southern Africa. These businesses collectively employ more than 3,000 Kenyans and foreign nationals. Ndegwa is also the owner of the 5-star Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, and the neighboring Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy and Animal Orphanage. Since acquiring the Animal Orphanage from its American owners years ago, Ndegwa has spent a fortune providing shelter and professional care to orphaned, injured, neglected, abused or frightened wild animals, with the goal to releasing them back into the wild where they belong.
Nigeria political buisness men are running billions of dollars. i actually doubt that in kenya. Nigeria is notoriously known for rich politicians. they are rumoured news that some nigerians politicians are even richer than dangote.

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying drug trade doesn't run in w.Africa, i'm saying south africa; as a country is d largest market for drugs in africa and also a drug exit point from africa to europe.

I've once read somewhere that most drugs come from middle east into africa through eastearn coast, most are going to south africa, one-third is consumed in south africa and d remaning transported to europe.

If u check south africa drug stats, u'll be shocked... west africa may trade in drug but south africa is d capo di capi.
I actually don't think so. for example, base on Africa Economic Institute, it is reported that value of illicit drug smuggling in Guinea-Bissau is almost twice the value of the country's GDP. you can just imagine.

But if Nigerians were involved beyond pushing drugs on the streets they would be known. The drug money is hard to hide. It a lot of wealth. Kenyan's Harun Mwau who is definitely the alpha of kenya drug lords...had invested nearly a billion dollars in US alone. In kenya he owns lots of properties...either directly or thro proxies.
You may need to visit Nigeria north friend. there are many so called individual political buisness men that are richer than some smaller country . this is not a joke bro. the money is hidden under the political banner so it is impossible to link those men into drug.

they have farms and cattle to cover up alongside the political post they hold. in Ghana a whole MP was busted ( Eric amoateng )

DEA and European Drug authority would long have identified them. Nigerians are drug pushes all over the world. That is not in dispute. But they are not drug lords or kingpins.

It's probably true - that some cocaine from South America - ends up in Europe via West Africa - but I think it's mostly the few satchet that Nigerian mules carry - most of the rest definitely go directly from South America via their agricultural exports.

In kenya - mombasa - there have been a lot of seizures of tonnes of mostly heroine worth serious money - Mombasa is basically a transit point for drugs from Afghan & Pakistani - they continue either on ships/boats - or on air to europe (via kenya flowers, vegies) or overland - these are not small quantities...these are large consignment. Majority of kenya drug pins own port/airport cargo handling/companies which export stuff/ - and thanks to kenya corruption - have bought everyone.

I think one of largest drug seizures in Kenya was 2004 - 1 tonne of cocaine - the largest haul in Africa!!!

https://mafiainafrica.investigativecenters.org/img/kenyas_drug_barons/drugroutes.png
No. the current seizure of largest cocaine burst happens in west africa just this year. it is a complicated buisness in west Africa . you can only identify those in the bottom lader not the source themselves.

That is how you guys have been fooled. who ever tells you Hausa/fulani are the most laid back in Nigeria are simply clever by half. you hardly known what is even going in your country. the largest cocaine transaction burst happens in west africa. it is known case that west africa is the major drug transaction point in Africa to europe. the hausa/ fulani have judiciously make use of their political power and first exposure to education to make this dealing more sophisticated. you hardly trace them

Yes that I think is big difference btw Kenya and Nigeria. Nigeria are the drug pushers even in kenya - while Kenya drug lords are international drug kingpins.

Some of the well known kenya drug pins include likes of Harun Mwau, Akashas and etc.

When Obama invoked the U.S. Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation - he named two kenyan drug pins.
Two Kenyans were among the seven: businesswoman Naima Mohammed Nyakiniywa and Harun Mwau, a prominent Kenyan multi-millionaire and former member of parliament.

Others Others included on the black list are Manuel Torres Felix (Mexico), Gonzalo Inzunza Inzunza (Mexico), Haji Lal Jan Ishaqzai (Afghanistan), Kamchybek Asanbekovich Kolbayev (Kyrgyzstan) and Javier Antonio Calle Serna (Colombia).

Right now the Akasha sons just got sentenced after being extradited to the US . Their father was an international drug kingpin.
when it comes to drug dealing and weapons . west africa run a very intelligent and a well developed business transaction. you may never be able to trace the source.( many West Africa politicians are stupidly rich thru this) .West Africa is a leading transit-point for smuggling cocaine to Europe in Africa. this is even known globally.

the real Nigerians drug dealers are Hausa/fulani and are highly connected politically( many Nigerians are not even aware, they blame the igbos who are mostly at the last bottom chain). you may never trace the original source becuse of the complicated buisness chain . in Ghana, it is rumoured to be one of the avenue a whole political party makes her money . (NPP).

stop attacking or calling south Africans xenophobic. there are many Africans in their uni and likewise many African women choose to give birth there. ( she is a welcoming nation for productive foreigners )the issue is more of crime between nationals and other foreing criminals who thought south African is a heaven only to find out is not diffrent from home.

All this issue point out there is high poverty rate in south Africa unaccounted and undocumented among south Africans themselves. there is poverty in that Mandela land and that is the fact.

what Ghana president went to do in Japan.

Ghana in progress to become the new hub of automobile industry.

Toyota Ghana......

Ichiro Kashitani, president and chief executive officer of Toyota Tsusho Corporation, has announced that the company will start assembling its vehicles in Ghana from August 2020.

Speaking on Thursday during the signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ghanaian government for the establishment of a Toyota and Suzuki assembly plant in the country, Kashitani said the project will last for life.

“We consider the project of the assembly plant a marriage. It lasts for life, and it is a long-term project,” he said.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, however, stated that the signing of the MoU with Toyota Tsusho falls in line with the vision of making Ghana an automotive hub for West Africa and the larger African market.

The president noted that Ghana is the base to reach the larger African market with the coming into force of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

We are attaching a great deal of importance to the initiative and development,” the president said.

AutoReportNG:
Last week, the minister of transportation, Rt Hon. Rotimi Ameachi hinted that the university of transportation will take off in Duara, Kastina State comes September 2019. Ever since the news broke, many stakeholders, gurus in the transport business has been reacting to this.

Among the gurus in the field is the MD/CEO of Lagos Bus Services Limited, Mr. Seyi Osiyemi who is a Public Transport/Urban Mobility Expert. According to the post on his LinkedIn page, he wrote...

So it appears that the FG is really serious about the establishment of a new ‘Transport University’ in Nigeria. The first time I heard about this initiative, I dismissed it as a joke taken too far.

But what’s the purpose of a transport university, when we have hundreds of federal owned tertiary institutions that are struggling to keep their classrooms open due to poor funding?

To the best of my understanding, it seems that the transport university was part of the deal with the Chinese for the rehabilitation of the Lagos-Kano Rail line, as a mechanism for knowledge transfer.

Whilst it’s important that we need to develop local skills and competence to manage our railway infrastructure, which is key to our economic development, however, this can be achieved without creating a ‘transport university’.

Aside from the existing federal universities of technology that offer transport courses, that can be improved, we also have the National Institute of Transport Technology in Zaria.

It’s ironic that the NITT, which was established in 1986, was actually conceived as a ‘Railway Training Institute’. So why can’t the NITT be upgraded to a full university status?

I’m really struggling to see the rational behind the initiative.

Another reader name Akinyele Makinwa wrote...

Same question I asked my very self when I read it this morning. I struggle with so many WHY within me. I just drop the thought since I have no answer to this. I want to say the fund to establish the University of Transportation in Daura would have been channel into Ajaokuta Steel Company or construction of good roads in Nigeria. More than 50 Universities are offering Courses related to Transportation both at 1st degree and postgraduate level. My Opinion anyway.

Also, Adedeji Aremu Ph.D
. has this to say...

By definition, a University is an assembly of academics and students for the proliferation of knowledge in society. A university is never the acquisition of depreciating assets. It is not wise to establish another university on this matter. Why not offer scholarships to students to study transport related courses and also initiate research projects that address the transport needs of the country. Starting a transport University despite the many universities in Nigeria doing transport course.

Prof. Ndubuisi Ekekwe has this to say...

Nigeria to start Transport University, Daura this September, according to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. How I wish they would stop this escalating bureaucracy and put that money in the departments of Transport Management in FUT Minna, FUT Yola (MAUT), FUT Bauchi (ATBU), FUTO, and FUTA. These five universities have solid transportation management programs that can be expanded. A new university means new VC, bursar, etc and just colossal inefficiency.

What's your take on this?

Ghana already open up a railway UniversIty. specialized university is a new phenemonem in the world. India has one and so its china. Nigeria has a petroleum institute located in warri. the reality is, this kind of uni fast track development. high achievers at undergraduate level are likely to take up immediate job in the field even before graduation. there is less competition in admission since the department is mono focus and many other benefit that comes with ambition rather than with Jack of all trade....

below is Ghana railway UniversIty. ready to take up student likely tbis year..... To me , Nigeria really get it this time. A good thinking .

consumer confidence in west africa market

Ghanaian consumer confidence shoots up by 10 points
Marginal increase in Nigerian consumer confidence, but sentiment still positive
Ghana’s latest Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) for the second quarter of 2019 shows an extremely healthy increase of 10 points to 118, while Nigeria’s CCI has increased by one point to 127. These two sets of results present an optimistic picture of consumer sentiment across West Africa.

Looking at Ghana’s overall performance, Nielsen Market Lead for West Africa, Yannick Nkembe comments: “Ghana is currently the poster-child for African economic growth and positive consumer sentiment. The International Monetary Fund estimates its GDP will rise 8.8% this year – double the pace of emerging economies as a whole, and well ahead of world growth.

“This is a result of factors such as expanding crude oil production, a stable democracy and the introduction of a more favourable taxation structure. Ghana’s manufacturing industry has also been boosted by policies aimed at diversifying the economy and preventing an over-reliance on the commodity markets.”

This overall positive outlook is reflected by Ghanaian consumers’ greatly improved view of their job prospects with a 10-point increase to 63%, saying they will be excellent or good in the next six months. In terms of the state of their personal finances over the next 12 months, 74% say excellent or good – up from 70%; and the number of Ghanaian consumers who feel now is a good or excellent time to purchase has also seen a large increase quarter on quarter, from 34% to 46%.

Looking at whether Ghanaians have spare cash, 52% say yes; up nine points from the previous quarter. Once they meet their essential living expenses, the highest number of consumers (82%) put their spare cash into savings, followed by 72% on home improvements/decorating, and 67% who invest in stocks and mutual funds.

When looking at the real life factors that are having a negative impact on Ghanaians’ outlook, the top concerns over the next six months include work/life balance at 24%, the same figure as the last quarter; rising food prices at 22% (dropped by three points compared to Q1’19); tolerance toward different religions, also at 22% (increased by 1% since the previous quarter); and children’s education and welfare at 18%, which has seen a 2-point increase.

Stable sentiment in Nigeria

In contrast to Ghana’s leaps and bounds in confidence during the second quarter, Nigeria’s CCI figure increased by one point; however, at 127 it is still way higher than Ghana’s consumer confidence, and the highest confidence level for the country since the first quarter of 2016.

Commenting on the recent resurgence in consumer sentiment, Nielsen MD for Nigeria, Ged Nooy says: “Following a turbulent period in its history, Nigeria’s economic recovery is gaining momentum – with GDP expected to grow slightly to 2.5% year on year, off the back of moderate improvements in net exports and domestic demand. Nigerians are optimistic about their future, and this is reflected in the confidence scores”.

Looking at the consumer picture, Nigerians’ immediate-spending intentions have shown a healthy increase – with 54% of consumers versus 46% in the previous quarter saying now is a good or excellent time to purchase what they want or need. However, their perception around job prospects have slightly declined, with 60% viewing them as excellent or good; a nine-point drop from the previous quarter.

Sentiment around the state of personal finances has shown a slight improvement, with 82% Nigerians agreeing their state of personal finances will be excellent or good over the next year; a one-point increase from the previous quarter.

Looking at whether Nigerians have spare cash to spend, 51% said yes versus 55% in the previous quarter. In terms of their spending priorities once they meet their essential living expenses, of the following categories 76% would invest in home mprovements/decorating; 73% would put their spare cash into savings; and 66% say they will invest in shares/mutual funds. Surprisingly, in light of their propensity toward savings and investment, the lowest number – 39% – said they would put their spare cash into retirement funds.

Looking at the top concerns for Nigerians over the next six months, work/life balance tops the list with 27% (a six-point increase compared to the previous quarter) and has displaced political stability as the number-one concern for Nigerians. This is followed by increasing food prices at 22% (a one-point increase compared to Q1’19) and the economy at 20% (a four-point increase compared to the previous quarter).

Elaborating on these results, Nooy says: “Nigerian consumers are positive and open to spending; however, the country’s retail environment continues to feel the effects of steep inflation. Manufacturers and retailers will therefore need to tackle this challenge, head-on, to harness the true value of Nigeria’s powerful consumer base”.
