LEOSIRSIR:
The annual Osun Osogbo festival is going on, Brief info

The origin and story of Osun festival started over 700 years ago when a group of settlers led by one great hunter, Olutimehin settled on the bank of the river to escape the famine in their former dwelling place. Osun, the water goddess was said to have appeared to Olutimehin and requested him and his group to move up some bit to higher ground – the present Osogbo town. Osun pledged to protect the group and make their women fruitful if they would offer an annual sacrifice to her in return. The group agreed, vowing to sacrifice annually to the goddess trusting that she would honour her promise. Today, the annual sacrifice has gone past just offering sacrifices to a river goddess, it has become an international celebration of cultural events attracting people from all over the world.

The Osun Osogbo festival is celebrated every year, for two weeks in the month of August. The festival begins with Iwopopo, the traditional cleansing of the town of evil. After three days, the Ina Olujumerindinlogun, a 600-year-old, 16-point lamp is lighted. Following this, is the Iboriade, where all the crowns of the past kings or Ataojas are assembled for blessing by the sitting Ataoja of Osogbo, the Arugba, the Yeye Osun, and a committee of priestesses.

The ‘Arugba’ also known as the ‘Calabash carrier’ is the key figure of the Osun Osogbo festival. She is a votary virgin, a cultural version of the Virgin Mary, who bears the Osun calabash on her head. The calabash contains sacrifice for the goddess. The Arugba is not only seen as a virgin maid but also as a goddess so people pray and tell her all their problems as she leads them, with the calabash on her head to the river. The current Arugba, Osuntomi Oyetunji, is the young daughter of the sitting Ataoja of Osogbo.

The story of Osun Osogbo festival includes the role of Susanne Wenger, an Austrian who worked towards its present development and to bring it to international attention. From the early 1950’s, she devoted the rest of her life to the restoration of the abandoned shrines. She remodelled the gods in sculpture and ceramics, and made over 75 cultural gods in artful representations. Wenger stopped people from abusing the integrity of the groves and prohibited hunting, fishing, felling of trees there. She personally rebuilt the customary shrines and groves again until her death.

The Osun festival started as an annual sacrifice to the river goddess. Presently, it is an international celebration of cultural events. The Osun Osogbo festival is no longer a cultural event of the Osogbo or Yoruba people, it has become a global event with people attending from Cuba, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Spain, Canada, and the United States.

Adherents of Osun goddess travel from all over the world to attend the annual cultural event in Osogbo, Osun State. The traditional ruler of Osogbo Town, the Ataoja of Osogbo - HRM Oba Jimoh Olanpekun Larooye II, the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) representing the federal government, and the Osun State government all collaborate to make the annual event a great success.

Sincere answers needed.
This is where predestination comes into play. prayer is not an obstacle to effort neither does effort an obstacle to predestination. but enough prayer and effort compliment a better Destiny.

US defense innovation unit wants drones to deliver medical supplies and it is partnering zipline.

The Pentagon’s Defense Innovation Unit is working with the medical-supply-dropping drone manufacturer Zipline to prototype unmanned aerial systems (UAS) as a way to broaden the distribution network of battlefield emergency supply delivery.

Zipline, a drone delivery company that markets itself as a “lifesaving” Silicon Valley startup, builds drones that can deliver supplies with automated robotic systems that can adjust to real-time conditions. The company’s work with the Department of Defense began in 2018 with an Other Transaction Agreement, the Pentagon told FedScoop.Zipline also operates in Ghana and Rwanda, delivering blood to rural hospitals where it says its fast delivery saved lives.

The company uses small, winged aircraft that fly like small planes instead of a quadcopter-style drone. Its payload, often a parachute-attached box of blood, is dropped using the assistance of weather-aware robotics.DIU did not elaborate on what exactly it is building with Zipline. DOD spokeswoman Elissa Smith told FedScoop the Pentagon is “collaborating to experiment with drone systems in an effort to answer questions about how drone deliveries could improve medical care during conflicts, disasters, and humanitarian crises.”

Zipline’s work with DOD also is to develop “exercises” to deliver supplies within the “golden hour,” or the time where care has a significantly higher chance of preventing death, Eric Gardiner, who works in global business development at Zipline, said during a panel on drone innovation at the U.S. Capitol in July.

“They wanted to get delivery to critically injured to personnel on the ground … as close to the point of injury as possible,” Gardiner said.

DIU, which functions like an internal startup accelerator for the DOD, often uses OTA contracts for prototype projects, ditching the lengthy requirements documents and long timelines of typical procurements to do business with small, innovative companies the Pentagon doesn’t typically reach. In May, DIU announced plans to work on developing backpack-sized, quadcopter-style reconnaissance drones.

Anyway..... this is a case study about Ghana from IMF.

An abstract from the finance minister

Mr. Speaker, a 2019 report of the IMF, using Ghana as a case study, pretty much captures where our economy was and where we have taken it to over the past 31 months and the greater gains we are poised to make from the decisions we have taken as a result of the competence and discipline we have applied in implementing them.

10. With your permission, Mr Speaker, I quote from the very beginning of the report: “Ghana has been hailed as one of sub-Saharan Africa’s success stories. It was the first to free itself from colonial rule, in 1957. It built a stable democracy in the 1990s, overcoming decades of political upheaval. A thriving economy fuelled by exports of cocoa, gold, and—more recently—oil helped cut the poverty rate from 53 percent in 1991 to 21 percent in 2012.

11. “But by 2015, Ghana’s economy was in trouble, hobbled by widening current account and budget deficits, rampant inflation, and a depreciating currency. Credit dried up as interest rates rose and banks’ bad loans piled up. At the root of Ghana’s woes was out-of-control government spending… In early 2015, Ghana turned to the IMF for a $918 million loan to help stabilize the economy...” [unquote]

12. The report goes on to highlight some of the achievements chalked over the past 31 months. “[quote]Ghana’s economy is on the mend. The trade and budget deficits are narrowing. The pace of economic growth is poised to rise to 8.8 percent in 2019 from 2.2 percent in 2015. The inflation rate is projected to fall to 8 percent from almost 19 percent. Cuts to wasteful spending made room for much needed social services, such as free secondary education. For Ghana’s 28 million people, it all adds up to higher incomes, better job opportunities, and more purchasing power. [unquote]“ https://www.imf.org/en/Countries/GHA/ghana-lending-case-study

You're a villager firstly and dumb. IMF ran your govt for you.. You had finance ministers who only read speeches and IMF call economic shots in your country.. They gave you their conditionalities which include-them running your govt for you for just 918 million USD yet you claim to be independent and gained independence before others
you see why i called you a nincompop. Imf don't manage economy, they only give advices since what leads to calling on imf is bad economic policies. the excessive budget deficits, un-targeted subsidies, overvalued exchange rates, which are all in abundant in nigeria economy as I type. etc. --. For example, Nigeria sett up the price of electricity below the cost of producing and distributing it which only serves the interests of those with a lot of electrical appliances — the rich — while starving the system of funds needed to maintain and expand service to a wider share of the public. Likewise, maintaining an overvalued exchange rate which only allows urban consumers to buy imported goods at low prices, while making it impossible for existing and potential exporters to earn the foreign exchange needed to cover the cost of those imports. this is why Nigeria was sent inton reccession since the oil price to maintain them drop..

for Ghana to be drag into recession, she will rather borrow from imf ( that seems more prudent) .

in 2011, nkojo iweala was crying and begging Nigeria to allow her remove subsidy. buhari almost run to imf of recent.
