I think the interesting thing about being a BA is anyone can be one as long as you have a passion for developing solutions to problems and you're analytical. Data Analysts, Management Consultants, Systems Analysts, Bankers, anyone at all who's interested and has a passion and the skills required for it it can be one. You do not necessarily need to have a business degree but you must be solution oriented and have relevant experience in identifying and defining business needs in any industry.
okay. Thanks!

@missKeri and anyone else who may need clarity on graduation date and date qualified to work in your profession....your academic studies end date is the date you officially complete your studies. It usually coincides with the date your final results were issued or for most Nigerian schools, the date senate approved your results. Your graduation date is usually the date written on your degree or certificate. Graduation date often comes after your academic studies end date because different schools have different graduation periods. So, if you completed studies say on April 30th, 2017 and your degree was awarded April 30th, 2018, the date you first became qualified to work in your profession is April 30th, 2017.

@rainazoe, did the agent confirm that they have received the passports you sent in July? In addition, did you confirm that the note on your file was for the same passport request that you were aware of? Is it possible that the photos you submitted in July were also rejected and as such you were sent another passport request? If not, you may want to call them back just to be sure because I think that when they ask for new photos, they give you a 30 day period within which they must receive it or they cancel your application. Anyway, I think that the processing time for a PRTD depends on the country/region you are applying from. You can check the estimated processing time on the cic website. Last I checked, it was about 30 days. Btw thank you for the acca-cpa pointers the last time. The person for whom I was enquiring has now concluded the process and received cpa status.

@Vcole, God bless you for all your hard work here. My driver's license expired in September last year. Do I need to get it renewed before coming over. I'm thinking Alberta. Thank you.
it would certainly be a sensible idea to renew. Make sure you keep the old license and that your date of 1st issue doesn't change. Of course, I am assuming that the expired license was a biometric one.

@pipes1759 your write up was entertaining. Welcome!
@ the basement suite ish, @beea is right about ensuring it is a legal suite. However, since you have a toddler I think you may wanna just opt out of renting a basement. Having a window to look out of would make a world of difference for your kid.

Hi, would a credit report from Nigeria be entertained for the purpose of getting teleco, housing, car, insurance etc services?
I know we have both local and international credit bureaus/companies in Nigeria that could verify one’s credit score such that they are globally recognized. Has anyone actively pursued this to that length?
Cc @hotD @Blackbuddy @Salford1 @thecongo2 @Ballerz @vcole @maternal @fusion23
Only Canadian and US credit histories are relevant here. @thecongo2, there are certain instances where US credit histories are accepted as they are able to access FICO reports here as well.

Sorry to ask this question but when you did your vehicle insurance, did TD request you pay the lump sum at once cos I'm trying to get a monthly payment plan and its been a tall order. The quote im getting from TD IS HIGH TO PAY ONCE. Would appreciate any advise.
Thanks
my first insurance wasn't with TD. It was with thepersonal insurance company and I went on a monthly pre authorized payment plan. I got a better deal with TD after I changed my car after a year and I pay monthly. However, it apears most insurance companies as at this year are asking for lump sum vehicle insurance payments for 1 year from new immigrants (I may be wrong as I am making this assumption based on feedback from a couple of new prs).

Hello House,
Elders in the house in Ontario: Please can you recommend a car insurance company that you used that catered to the needs of newcomers or discuss available options to registering a car and getting license plates?
Thank you!
Registering a car or getting license plates are done at the registries. There is usually one within the community where you live. Google license and registry around xyz and it should pop up their contact info. Insurance companies in my experience cater to everyone. However everyone gets charged different premiums. As you wouldn't have any Canadian driving experience, you would most likely get charged slightly higher. Check out TD insurance. A phone call to get a quote should do the trick. Have your VIN number on hand though.

Given that its less than a year since it was issued, is there any chance i can get the waiver to move straight to G after my G1 test? Also, when filling the form, would it be okay to fill my years of experience from when i started driving(with the fake license) and not just from the issue date on the license.

TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by vcole: 11:14pm On Aug 20, 2018
As regards this driver's license issue. I am inclined to believe that if you have the frsc biometric license and that is the license thay has expired and you are renewing it, your date of 1st issue would not change on the renewed license. So, this means that your driving experience is retained. I think that it's when the old Nigerian non-biometric license is renewed and a new biometric license is issued that the date of 1st issue changes.
Everyone I know who has renewed their expired biometric license has the date of 1st issue unchanged. If anyone has a different experience, please share. See photo attached. Looping Newmum0615

So technically if I have a stop in Frankfurt and Heathrow it should not apply although Lufthansa on its on site says transiting through two countries in Europe requires a visa. I also got confused when I saw that cos London is Europe even though not schengen .
I don't think you need a visa to transit in the UK as long as you are not changjng airports.

Hello house great job here. I have read people talk about drivers license and all but no one is talking about people like me that dnt know how to drive.how or what are the steps to learn n get a drivers license there. sadPls epp
hi. If you read the drivers manual for your province you should get more info. The way it works in Alberta for instance would be that you take the written road test and pass then get issued a class 7 license. This is the equivalent of a Nigerian learner's permit. You stay on a class 7 for 1yr (i think or maybe 2? Not sure) and can only drive with a class 5 holder seated in the front passenger seat. After 1 yr, you take the basic road test and if you pass you get issued a class 5 GDL license. With this, you can't have any alcohol in your system at all when driving and can't drive between midnight and 5am (or 6am?) and can't carry more passengers in your car than the number of seatbelts (or sumn like that). You stay on class 5 gdl for 2yrs and as long as you get no demerits and stuff, after that you take the advanced road test and get a class 5 license.

Hi Vcole,
Thanks for your reply to this.
I have completed postgraduate training and verified my credentials. I plan to come to Canada to pursue the independent practice as a Family Physician. What exactly do I need to do. Can you please advice me.
I am unable to offer any advice about this pathway. Your best bet would be to read up each province's rules and guidelines for independent practice.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by vcole: 10:53pm On Aug 18, 2018
@agates, the rule is that once you are passing through 2 schengen countries you need a visa. It doesn't matter if you are transiting or not. With Ethiopian airlines, Dublin is in Ireland so this does not apply. Best bet is to apply for a transit visa or get a route that only transits in 1 schengen country.

Hello, I just arrived Calgary Sw. Im looking for an affordable 2 bedroom apartment. Any assistance will be appreciated
have you checked rentfaster.ca and kijiji.ca? Those are the go to sites for accomodation in Calgary. Contact landlords and schedule viewings. There aren't a lotta places available this time of year as most leases expire in spring but if you keep searching you'll find. Also consider being willing to offer paying a couple of months' rent in advance for landlords who may be skeptical about taking on new immigrants as tenants.

My idea: six weeks to expiration of license, apply online for renewal. Select the option of no capturing. Also pick 5 years for good measure. Pau online and go complete the process at FRSC.

Since you're not capturing, they'll neither take away your old licence nor issue you a temporary licence. Instead they'll sign your application paper with which you're expected to drive until your new license Is ready.

Go with your old licence to Canada and use it to get your Canadian license.

In three months, get someone to help pick up your five year Nigerian license so you're still able to drive in Nigeria whenever you vis it.
@bolded, it is illegal to hold an Alberta license and any other drivers license. Just saying.

Hi vcole, Pls is evaluating part 1 result(family medicine) from National postgraduate medical college useful in practice ready assessment for Alberta?. Thank you so much. I am trying to know certificates to evaluate with MCC regarding practicing or residency. Thank you
No idea. To the best of my knowledge at the moment what Alberta has, is a PPAP quite different from the other PRAs. It is for IMGs who have completed a residency program within or outside Canada of a minimum of 2yrs duration and with specific postings and who have not been out of a post graduate training over the preceeding 3yrs.
I would say evaluate your degree, transcript, all postings in that order.

Got back to Naija. I did a short landing.
since ur gonna go back after the baby, then don't apply for a health card when you come. Tell the docs you're a self-pay patient and let them bill you as such. That way, you pay your bills when they arrive without it going to your provincial health care.
