Thank you @xx01 @vcole
Does this mean i must have to leave and re-enter somehow or perhaps have to wait for months before booking appointment to register as a PR?
don't fret ok? Inland applicants don't have to leave before "landing ". You would go to the nearest office where landing can be done. Instructions would be in your copr when it arrives, i suppose and if not, you can always contact ircc for more info. I don't think you would have issues with landing.

Hello Vcole, pls any idea if 2years clinical practice in Anaesthesia also counts for the IMG programs like Family medicine and the rest?
it wouldn't count for PRA programs. Only 2yrs family medicine residency or 3yrs independent practice counts towards that .

@geebaby10, the penalty would be that you would pay back for the services you received, i believe. It won't hurt to take a look at that blueprint again I'll do same.

@affordablerent, it is surprising that you are unaware that Canada has a much better health care system than the states. It is public information and is even used as a joke between both countries. Having experienced health care from the states under a private system that I paid for and same care in Canada under the public system, I can say that both as a patient as well as a health worker, Canada is wayyy superior.
@geebaby10, the 183 days residency requirement for health care insurance is actually for all provinces and not just Alberta.
You can PM me, to be honest 6 months goes by quickly and before you know it, you'll head home. If your sis would be willing to stay with you for a bit that would be nice. Your family in the states could also come visit for a short while.

@ekpekus, that post was circulated before and when I read it, I shook my head because it has so many flaws.
@sweetrie The img pathway is a bit windy in Canada. As far as I know and according to the valid information given by mcc and provinces as regards medical practice, there are 2 pathways open to IMGs.

Pathway 1.
You write and pass mccee and nac osce. Then have a minimum of 7,7,7,7 in academic ielts not more than 2yrs old then you apply for the residency match called carms. Apps open in September and close in Nov or so yearly and I think interviews happen between then and January and the match occurs in March and residency starts in July.
If you have passed mccqe1, it makes you more attractive. If you have a reference from a licensed Canadian physician, it makes you more attractive. The province of Alberta has a separate img match from the Canadian/US grads match. Those img match slots are competitive. However, if you are able to get a recommendation from the aimga (Alberta img association), you stand a very good chance of matching a residency prog. The aimga has different requirements from the carms. They require a pass in mccqe 1 and ielts written not earlier than May of the year preceeding your intended match year.

Pathway 2
Physician practice readiness assessment aka PRA.
For now Manitoba, Sask, BC have PRAs. Newfoundland recently suspended theirs.
Requirements are pass in mccee (for sask and Manitoba you also need a pass in mccqe1 and mccqe2 or nac osce) + 2yrs evidence of family medicine residency or 2yrs of clinical practice with rotations in paeds, obsgyn, surgery, internal med and psychiatry. Your Nigerian clinical practice is very well recognised.
So if you qualify, you get assessed and if you are accepted, you sign a return of service contract for 3yrs (4yrs in Manitoba) and get posted to a rural area to work and after you finish you get your license. You'll however need to pass the family medicine fellowship exams.

Matching a residency prog or getting accepted into a PRA prog are both very competitive.
Also, bear in mind that in Canada, you can pass all of the MCC exams and yet not get into residency or get into a Pra for a while. So, it is always advisable to have other plans for career growth asides waiting to get a spot.

As regards pay, a resident earns about $250k annually and on the average a GP earns $300k annually. Specialist physicians earn more. The ministry of health pays a GP $150/each patient s/he sees. So if you do the math, $300k is pretty easy to come by. This is why they say when you eventually get your license it is worth it, if you're in for the money sha.
fusion23. I found this.

I know that you can do a land crossing at Niagara. Walk across the bridge to US side, ask that they reject you and then walk back to the Canadian side. Heard some people discussing the option. People do it all the time.
reject? How? As in be refused entry into the US? I think inland PR applicants can go to certain service canada offices to do a landing though.

@geebaby10, the issue here is for your baby to be born in Canada so as to avoid any issues with documentation post delivery. Inmigration laws are fluid and change year in, year out. You can read up on family sponsorship on IRCC's website to see if you would qualify to sponsor your baby post delivery....because I may be wrong but to the best of my knowledge, the sponsored family member has to be outside Canada during the process while the sponsor is within Canada.

Anyway, even as a tourist, birth in Canada is still way cheaper than thd states. So, if you wanna pay, then Canada is still your best bet.

@geebaby10, I think that you should try not to complicate your situation. It is either you have the baby before landing, add him/her to your application, return copr and wait until you are reissued another OR you really just toe the easier path .....land Alberta as you would get health coverage immediately. Have your baby for free. Even get an extra 3 months post partum extended health benefit coverage for yourself as a complimentary deal, lol! Board a flight to Houston after about 2-3 weeks which should be sufficient time to receive baby's birth certificate, SIN, health card and obtain a passport. Calgary to Houston is a 3hrs+ flight and costs under $CAD200. If you wanna drive your personal vehicle across a landed border between Canada and the states, your baby wouldn't even need a passport. Birth certificate would suffice.

Thanks. My work exp isnt too straigh forward.I'm an economist with Msc Finance.I have mainly experience in govt -macro research and operations.I'm trying to work in financial services especially operations/settlement/data entry/risk etc
As for recruitement agences,i was using Acces Canada-they tried but they are quite sluggish.I am now using TalentCor which is able to get contract roles in TD Bank.So fingers crossed on that.i am even ready to work below minium wage or free for a month in financials services just so i will be more marketable
How long were u in Canada before getting a job/I've not yet considered other provinces, let me stretch my luck in Toronto, plus i'm not ready to deal with the colder regions
i think you are doing aii. Please don't work below minimum wage for any job cos if at all any pays less than minimum wage, there must be something wrong with that job....safety first please. However you can explore volunteer opportunities at roles or in organizations you are interested in working at.

Hi Vcole wanted to send you a private message, or you can post on here..
am making inquiries for someone shocked not me..can u do a summary on what it takes for a naija doctor or dentist to practice in Canada.
Like steps in the exams and how long it can take...please if this has been discussed before you can just direct me...
thanks...i know how it feels repeating same thing to new people over and over again.
Regards.
hmmm. There is no one route to practice for a doc....or dentist. It's a lil bit customised to the individual. But I posted a link on here a few weeks ago. A blog about it. I'll try to find it and repost.

Hi guys
Pls does anyone have an idea of any ‘newcomer or volunteer’ services in Mississauga, Ontario that can help with filing taxes for last year?
My tax situation for last year is not complicated, that’s when we landed.
Not exactly willing to do it myself online cos it’s the first time, would love to get it done professionally. Subsequently, I’ll do it myself with TurboTax.
Thanks
check the cra website. It lists community volunteer tax clinics per location

Hi Everyone, we received a request yesterday to submit our passport for COPR. We have 15 days from yesterday to forward the passports to ACCRA and our medicals will expire April 5th and we are require to be in Canada before that date. We submitted our application on the 18th of April, 2017.
Our worry now is that we are not sure our passports will be processed within this very short period and besides we are honestly not prepared to leave within this short notice. Truth be told, we had given up because it was taking forever for them to conclude the process and we committed ourselves to a whole lot of other things. My spouse is very engage with work at the moment and by virtue of his position at work, he will have to give at least 6 months notice prior resignation.
We intend to request for extension of our medicals validity or perhaps go for another medicals but we are not sure if it is possible and how to go about it. Our thought when we applied was that the visa will be approved within six months and that will give my spouse enough time to notify his employer.
Experts in the house, your guidance on how to handle the situation will be most appreciated.
good news. Well, submit your passport to Accra and see if you get your passport back before this month ends. However, email accra as well as cpc ottawa about your medicals expiry date. You can also attach a cover letter when you are sending your passport explaining same. If you do get your copr before medicals expires I would advice that you do a short landing. It's just less complicated. He doesnt have to stay long. He can arrive today and leave tomorrow pretty easy. You can do same or choose to stay back and wait for or cards before returning.

Please email me akaglue@yahoo.com
hmmmm. To the best of my knowledge, full day schools end at 3:30pm and they often go to school on alternate fridays as well. I am not sure if 4 yr olds do full day pre k in Ontario but you can confirm.

Nope. Things have changed. You need to send their passports too. There have been cases where people were asked to send their kids passports after leaving it out. I sent my daughter's own. It just won't be stamped

Here is a schedule for free tax clinics in Calgary run by volunteers. Recently landed immigrants in Calgary who would be filing their taxes for the first time may find this useful.

Has anyone got PPR with USA VISA / HAVING AMERICAN KID(S)
I have some doubts that I would appreciate if I could talk to someone.
Thank you in advance.
hey. Probably about whether to send the kids' passport or not? You don't have to send their passports in. Just their passport photographs.

Eyha! Choice of city has major impact on a lot of factors. If you have made up your mind on living/settling in BC, what city to live in totally depends on you, your family/career and what your plan is. Google gives close but generic answers. Practically, there is nothing in Victoria (only has the title 'BC's Capital') compared to other known cities. I'm not sure one can explain all about different cities on this platform.
dude! It's been forever. How r ya?
Travel / Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by vcole: 11:44pm On Mar 12, 2018
This passport validity matter.....I think we may be overthinking it. The rules are dependent on your destination country. Whatever the rules are determine what the airline would accept. For example, the United States has certain countries from which it requires a 6 months validity on their passports as at point of entry, however Nigeria isn't one of them. I have flown from Nigeria to the states on a passport that was to expire 6 weeks after my date of entry.
This seems consistent with kay2011's experience.

@rainazoe, even if you change the name on your passport, the name on your pr card would be the name on your copr.

when do you intend to land? My advice is to land before passport expiry. Your pr card would bear the name on your copr regardless of a change in passport name.

Wow. O boy no be small matter be this. Even if I'm running to the bus stop and the bus didn't stop at the bus stop because no one on the bus requested a stop? Found out that I had to wait 20 to 30 mins for the next bus out in the cold. Today was hellish. Kept arriving just as the bus was pulling out and I was with my toddler. The wind today was something else.
Pele oh. Well, the bus has stopped for me before when the driver saw me approaching after he just exited the stop. I was pregnant at the time so that may be why.

@amindondee, that must have been some BP raising wiat period. I may ne wrong but you could have landed with your old passport. The validity period is intended for the point of submission of your PR app and point of issuing the visa. As long as your passport was valid for travel as at when you intended to land, you would not have had any issues.

I have an infant who is 3 months old and would appreciate advise from other mums on the best way to move around with an infant in this weather. Been using a baby carrier buy she's not a fan and always fussy. Do I need to get stroller?
welcome. Yes, I would advice you get a stroller and a bunting bag which looks like the photo below. Also, a snowsuit for your baby is recommended. You can also get a car seat cover as shown in the photo since she can't sit upright in a stroller just yet but personally, I prefer the bunting bag because it could fit in both a car seat and stroller.
