Politics › How Edo Dep Gov, Shaibu, Betrayed Me —Oshiomhole by vicdom(op): 3:24pm On Nov 19, 2019
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday, lamented the political crisis rocking Edo State and the alleged betrayal of the deputy governor of the state, Philip Shaibu.
Oshiomhole shared his feelings in Iyamoh, his country home when supporters paid him a solidarity visit.
The APC chair expressed disgust over the crisis that has engulfed the party in Edo and blamed Shaibu and some other persons from his Local Government Area, who he claimed betrayed him.
Addressing his supporters, Oshiomhole urged the people to continue to embrace peace and not allow themselves to be used for the wrong reasons because of money just as he also advised them to continue to support the government of President Muhammadu Buhari who he said stands for truth and justice.
Shaibu was at the centre of a recent altercation between youths in Iyamho and suspected thugs allegedly brought to the community during the recent convocation ceremony of Edo University, Iyamho in Etsako West Local Government Area.
Oshiomhole said, “It is about the truth, we have a president who believes in the truth, who believes in fairness, who believes in justice, who believes that government should fight for the poor.
“There is nothing I have done in life that I didn’t have to fight but as you can see by the special grace of God there is no fight that I was forced into that I have not prevailed because I do not go out of my way to look for trouble. I actually do my best to make peace but if it fails, God will give the enablement to stand and defend the truth.
"The only thing I will say today to anyone who is here, who is an agent of my son; when I talk of my son, I'm talking of Philip Shiabu, who now thinks that his own political future requires that he attacks me and import thugs to disgrace me in my village.

"The Hausas have a saying that when people are possessed and they do things like that, just say, 'God take control.' Supposing I was dead after 2016 and somebody tells me that my son Philip will organise people to attack my house or to attack my village, to disrupt the convocation, maybe my body will be turning in heaven and I will not believe but the fact that I'm alive to see someone who did not win his own (polling) booth because his own people in his own village in his own community of Jattu did not want him because they apparently know him better than I do.  But I stood by him, I stood for him and he became the deputy governor.
"If all that transpired now is to use that power to humiliate me but God didn't allow it. As you can see, who can fight the battle? It is only God so I leave the burden of guilt to them and I will not repay evil with evil. I will stand on the path of peace, I will stand on the path of unity. I will stand on the path of justice because I know that God in heaven will never allow the evildoer to prevail.
"I'm very happy that God has given me good health and that I can see some people who fought me in 2007 and God gave me victory and from victory I made them commissioners, I gave them jobs, I assisted them whenever they were in need. That I'm alive to see them because of a small pot of pepper soup calling for signatures to say Oshiomhole should not be.(sic)"

Obaseki, I like you and how you have steered the affairs of Edo so far, but I entreat you to make peace with Your benefactor (Oshiomole) so as not to be bullied out of office by 2020. It's evident the elections under Buhari are more of intimidation, oppression, rigging and vote buying than credible electoral processes, of which I know that you don't have the security outfits and cash wherewithal to challenge Oshiohmole and APC in entirety. Please make peace or forget your second term's ambition.

Oga, You must know that everyone must not be in one party. There must always be opposition in order to checkmate the government, else it would amount to anarchy. Even US, an advanced country has opposition parties let alone a developing country like Nigeria. We still need opposition to deepen our democracy.

No amount of Abracadabra can deflate PDP's votes in Ankpa and Dekina. As an Ankpa man, I know that APC will gain at least 2,000 votes from Ankpa LGA but that's where it stops. The margin from Ankpa, Dekina and Idah will be too much for Kogi Central to cover. And since APC is losing Kogi West, I don't believe any amount of rigging can help them now. The conditions doesn't favor them.
Lol....Don't mind them man, there are other six LG beside Idah, Dekina and Ankpa that make up Kogi east. They are not even going there.... No single LG in the east can bello win. The east voters population is twice central and these people don't even know that. Mtcheeeewwww

One thing I have noticed about you is that you usually ride on emotions while making political analysis. Even with all the results flying everywhere, you are still blinded by sentiment. Show me a single unit in the west where smart won Dino beside Koto with slim margin. I wonder what APC gives you in return for gallivanting all the thread trying to defend an obvious indefensible. Even a blind man knows that Dino had won the election. The Onus should be on the governorship.

Politics › Supreme Court: Buhari ’Eminently Qualified’ To Contest by vicdom(op): 11:14am On Nov 15, 2019
The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that President Muhammadu Buhari was “eminently qualified” to contest the February 23 presidential election.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, prepared the full judgment of the apex court which is being read by Justice John Okoro.

The full judgment delivered on Friday was to provide explanations for the apex court’s summary decision of October 30 which dismissed the appeal by the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar challenging the victory of Buhari at the February 23 presidential poll.

In the full judgment of the apex court delivered on Friday, the court affirmed the decision of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal which held that Buhari possessed the requisite educational qualification to contest the poll.

It held that the Nigerian Constitution only required a candidate contesting the presidential election to be educated up to secondary education even when the candidate does not possess the certificate.

It added that by virtue of the provisions of the Constitution, a candidate who possesses a primary school certificate and has worked in the public or private service for a period not less than 10 years, and can read, write and communicate in the English language to the satisfaction of INEC is qualified to contest.

It also held that contrary to the contention of the appellants, Buhari did not submit false information about his educational qualification to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

It also ruled that the appellants failed to prove that the www.factsdontlie.ng from which the appellants downloaded the results of the election which they relied on, belonged to INEC.

The Supreme Court also said the appellants failed to prove the alleged irregularities including overvoting.

It added that the appellants merely dumped documents on the lower court without calling witnesses to demonstrate them.

It ruled that it was alarming that the appellants only called five polling unit agents across the entire polling units in the country in their attempt to prove the alleged non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The judgment is still being delivered.
