Northern groups ask Buhari to apologise to Nigerians. The Coalition of Northern Groups on Wednesday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to apologise to the nation for allegedly dragging the country to a desperate situation. The group, in a statement by its spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, further urged the President to own up on his inadequacies and take steps to address national grievances. It said although the North was aware of the current administration’s lapses which are sources of concern, Northerners decided not to take part in the #RevolutionNow protests because of their belief that every form of disagreement can be resolved through civilised engagement rather than resorting to confrontation. The group said it was aware of the various challenges facing the country under Buhari such as Boko Haram insurgency, farmers-herders clashes, sluggish economic growth, lopsidedness in the distribution of appointments and budgetary allocations among others, stained anti-corruption crusade, and disregard for the rule of law. The group also faulted the South West, which it claimed has been a major beneficiary of the Buhari administration, for allegedly being in the forefront of efforts to discredit the administration. It urged the North to severe political ties with the South West. It said, “We submit that instead of just sitting back to thank Nigerians for not joining the overthrow plan, President Buhari should rather sincerely apologise to the nation by reflecting on how he dragged the country into such a desperate situation, own up to his inadequacies and take genuine steps to address the mounting national grievances. “Unless this is done, with the growing angry mood that pervades the entire country, the likelihood of a more serious dissent remains imminent. “We also wish to ask the President if in all honesty he still considers the South Western players as true friends who are genuinely desirous of his success. “He should ask himself if the treatment he is receiving from them is worth the attention he had given the South West which involved colliding with his northern brethren to the point of elevating the status of June 12 as appeasement. “To the entire northern leaders and elite, we categorically say that the current political alignment with the South West is not paying and it never will. “The vital task at this point is for the northern political leadership to renegotiate its current alliance with the South West which has never been North's political ally. https://punchng.com/northern-groups-ask-buhari-to-apologise-to-nigerians/amp/

JUST IN: Sowore’s Arrest: Buhari’s govt behaving like Abacha’s – Soyinka The Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, has condemned the arrest of activist Omoyele Sowore. Mr Sowore, a presidential candidate in the last election, was arrested on Saturday for calling for a revolution against poor governance. “Beyond the word ‘revolution, another much mis-used and misunderstood word, nothing that Sowore has uttered, written, or advocated suggests that he is embarking on, or urging the public to engage in a forceful overthrow of government,” Mr Soyinka said. He compared the actions of the security agencies that arrested Mr Sowore to what happended during the tenure of the late dictator, Sani Abacha. “We underwent identical cynical contrivances under the late, unlamented Sani Abacha, when he sent storm-troopers to disrupt a planning session for a similar across-nation march at Tai Solarin School, Ikenne,” Mr Soyinka wrote in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES. Read the full statement below. SURELY, NOT AGAIN!! Deployment of alarmist experessions such as “treason”, “anarchist”, “public incitement” etc. by Security forces have become so predictable and banal that they have become meaningless. Beyond the word ‘revolution, another much mis-used and misunderstood word, nothing that Sowore has uttered, written, or advocated suggests that he is embarking on, or urging the public to engage in a forceful overthrow of government. Nothing that he said to me in private engagement ever remotely approached an intent to destabilize governance or bypass the normal democratic means of changing a government. I therefore find the reasons given by the Inpector-General, for the arrest and detention of this young ex-presidential candidate totally contrived and untenable, unsupported by any shred of evidence. His arrest is a travesty and violation of the fundamental rights of citizens to congregate and make public their concerns. This is all so sadly déjà vu. How often must we go through this wearisome cycle? We underwent identical cynical contrivances under the late, unlamented Sani Abacha, when he sent storm-troopers to disrupt a planning session for a similar across-nation march at Tai Solarin School, Ikenne. This was followed up by a personalized letter that was hand delivered by the State Security Services to me under their ummons, at their Abeokuta so-called ‘Annexe’ with near identical wording to the threats contained in today’s release from the desk of the Chief of Police. At least, I was summoned, not subjected to a terrorist midnight arrest. Some irony! The same pattern Pavlovian conduct manifested itself under yet another supposed democratic ruler who personally declared that the gathering of civilians to deliberate on, and propose a constitution for the nation was ‘high treason’, and would be resisted by the full rigour of state power if we persisted. The Inspector-General of Police mobilized his forces and issued inflammatory proclamations, but PRONACO went ahead despite all the thundering from Aso citadel. Can the police ever learn anything also their tear-gassing and brutalizing of grieving mothers who marched peacefully to protest the deaths of their children in a plane crash inferno? Their mission, under that same regime, which was simply to deliver a letter to government house in Lagos, demanding greater safety in airline operations, yet such a rational intent, born of traumatic circumstances, was quashed on the sidewalks of a supposed twentieth century nation. And yet again, even a faceless cabal under yet another civilian regime refused to be left out of the insensate play of power. A march on Aso Rock calling for an end to governance by a ghostly entity was slated to be crushed, but fortunately, a conflicting balance of interests decided in favour of a reduced trajectory of protest. And so on and on and on, in a nation which continues to speak at once through both sides of the mouth, spewing out the same Treason monotone, as if this was a magic incantation that could substitute for the venting of mass feelings, even as collective therapy! May I invite the Inspector-General to wade through the daily journals of the past few weeks and months, read and digest the calls by numerous sectors of society – across professions and national groupings – for demonstrations against the parlous conditions of society, all identifying ills to which attention must be drawn, and urgently, through mass action? Demonstrations and processions are time honoured, democratic ways of drawing not only the attention of government to ills, but of mobilizing the public towards a proactive consciousness of their condition, and thereby exhorting civil society also to devise means of ameliorating their condition through their own efforts? Religious bodies have urged such remedies, so have civic associations. The ready recourse to arrests, incarceration and threats to civilians are ultimately counter-productive. They alienate the citizens, erode their confidence in governance responsiveness, and thereby advance the very extremist nightmare that security agencies believe they are acting to thwart. If we cannot learn from the histories and experiences of other societies, let us at least learn from ours. Freedom is not so glibly qualified. It cannot be doled out like slops of charity from soup kitchens. Let the Police stick to their task of protecting and managing protests, not attempt to place their own meaning and declaration of intent on bogey words like – revolution! https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/344731-just-in-sowores-arrest-buharis-govt-behaving-like-abachas-soyinka.html

![]() This Guy is dealing with APC and his benefactor (osho) as I like. No room for God-fatherism in Edo state. I love his confidence ![]() |
![]() I stay in lokoja and I can tell you that Bello is likely to remain in luggard's for another 4yrs. That guy has deadly foot soldiers under his payroll who can ruthlessly manipulate and rig election in his favour. Let alone the federal might that he has already. Another strategy he's using now is to effectively divide Igala's substantially through different surrogates of different other political parties who are from Igala land. PDP as a main opposition party in the state is not serious yet. When they have plethora of incredible fellows seeking for party's candidature. As it stands now, there are over 15 Igalas vying for luggard's seat under different political parties whom yahaya Bello is their discrete sponsors, just to disintegrate a large number of Igala votes. When he succeeds in doing that, he will rig and overbloat the votes coming from his tribe side (Ebira) Kogi central. Then with a few votes from kogi west, with help of the likes of Smart Adeniyi and other APC Juggernauts from the west side. I tell, Yahaya Bello's chances of coming back is extremely high. Don't forget, APC won all the state house of assembly seats of the state. PDP is still in a ghost mode in Kogi as it stands. |
‘#SayNoToIntimidation’, Aisha Buhari Responds To SaharaReporter’s Story On Police Invasion of Dakolo’s Residence. The police had invited Busola Dakolo, popular photographer and wife of musician Timi Dakolo, for investigation after storming their Lagos residence on Sunday. The wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, has responded to SaharaReporter’s story on the invasion of Timi Dakolo’s residence by the men of the Nigerian Police Force. The police had invited Busola Dakolo, popular photographer and wife of musician Timi Dakolo, for investigation after storming their Lagos residence on Sunday. The letter of invitation from the police signed by DCP Kolo Yusuf, Deputy Commissioner of Police, IGP Special Tactical Squad, read in part, "This office is investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, falsehood, and a threat to life that your name was mentioned. "You are kindly requested to interview the undersigned officer on 23/07/2019 by 1000hrs for fact findings through DSP, Ibrahim Agu, with telephone number 08037864191." Before summoning the photographer for an interview, a source, who spoke with SaharaReporters, had narrated how the police asked Busola Dakolo to recant her confession by signing a document. Busola reportedly declined the request. Responding to SaharaReporter’s tweet, Aisha Buhari wrote, “ATTENTION: INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE #SayNoToRape #JusticeForRapeVictims #SayNoToIntimidation.” http://saharareporters.com/2019/07/20/%E2%80%98saynotointimidation%E2%80%99-aisha-buhari-responds-saharareporter%E2%80%99s-story-police-invasion-dakolo

BREAKING: Appeal Court dismisses suit challenging Buhari's educational qualification for 2019 elections. The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has struck out a suit seeking to nullify the candidacy of President Muhammadu Buhari on academic grounds. The court in a judgement on Friday said the application was brought outside the specified time for pre-election matters. A three-member panel of the court let by Justice AtinukeAkomolafe-Wilson had reserved judgment for Friday after entertaining arguments from the appellants on Wednesday. The applicants, Kalu Kalu, Labaran Ismail and Hassy Kyari el-Kuris, had approached the appellate court after a Federal High Court dismissed their application on the grounds that it was brought outside the specified period of time. In a judgement on the appeal, read by Mohammed Idris on behalf of the three-member panel, the court agreed with the high court and struck out the motion. “We have decided to settle on the preliminary objection. To determine the issue, we have to pay serious attention to when the cause of action arose. “I have no doubt in my mind that the cause of action arose on October 18 when the documents said to be false that is the Curriculum Vitae and affidavit were submitted to INEC in form CF001,” the court ruled. It then added that based on section 285 (9) of the 1999 Constitution, the case was brought later than the stipulated period of 14 days when a pre-election matter ought to have been brought. The court further held that even if the first part of the application had succeeded and the court agreed that the matter was not brought out of time, the stipulated period when such a pre-election matter ought to have been determined elapsed since May. Consequently, the court ruled that it cannot accord itself any jurisdiction outside that given to it by the constitution. Mr Buhari’s educational qualification is also one of the grounds of the petition filed by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the presidential election tribunal. Mr Abubakar came second in the February presidential election won by Mr Buhari. The opposition candidate, however, alleges, among others, that Mr Buhari lied on oath about his educational qualifications and that the electoral commission manipulated the result in favour of the president. Mr Abubakar and the PDP are still arguing their petitions at the tribunal. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/340548-breaking-appeal-court-dismisses-suit-challenging-buharis-educational-qualification-for-2019-elections.html

![]() There's every propensity that Bello would retain and remain in the Lord-Luggard's covetous seat. Bello is very dogged and ruthless with plethora of thugs under his payroll, coupled with federal power and that of the incumbent. And PDP is the only strong opposition that can challenge him, but the sad thing is that amongst the candidates vying under PDP, no one is assumed credible that can sway the electorates in order to upturn these forces already working for Bello. And another factor that will help bello is that, there are many contenders under different political parties that have the clout to evenly share their votes. Therefore, if the Igala votes are divided substantially, Yahaya Bello will carry the day. I wish PDP could lure senator echocho from APC and give him ticket, Bello will be a goner already. Otherwise, Bello would be returning Luggard's house by Nov. You can bookmark this post for reference purposes. |

The All Progressives Congress has adopted indirect primary to pick its candidate for the November governorship election in Kogi state. The decision was taken at the National Working Committee meeting which held on Friday at the National Secretariat of the party. The Independent National Electoral Commission had fixed November 2 for the governorship election in Kogi and Bayelsa states. A statement by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the approval was given after a meeting of the NWC where a formal request from the Kogi State executive and stakeholders in preference for the indirect primary was considered and deliberated on. The statement read in part, “Recall that the APC Constitution which was reemphasised by a decision of National Executive Committee provides for three mode of primary election to elect party candidates – indirect, direct primaries and consensus – depending on the peculiarities of the state and preferences of the stakeholders in respective elections. “Meanwhile, the party’s timetable for the sales of forms and conduct of primaries will be announced in due course.” Some stakeholders in Kogi State had recently called on the NWC to raise a caretaker committee if the party was desirous of winning the state. The stakeholders who emphasised that the party was divided in the state also urged the party to adopt direct primary for the governorship election.
