Gbam! You can say that again. Most times this thing is caused by the freelancers themselves. And it's really annoying how these guys reduce themselves and their work to nothing for peanuts after years of learning and hard work. Even when one is just starting out, there are decent ways to build a portfolio and gain recognition for your stuff without embarrassing the industry charging peanuts. How can someone decide to pay ordinary 500 naira for 1,500 words and think he'll get something of high quality? Or is it the laughable 5k for website design? These things makes cringe. Sometimes we're the ones doing ourselves. Recently I was shocked when a fellow web developer another Nigerian based in UK charged one of his clients 1000 USD for designing a simple wordpress website. So I decided to find out how much the website was different from the industry standard for him to have charged such w huge amount and I discovered there was not so much difference. Instead what I discovered there was the unusual confidence the guy built into his brand. The marketing strategies he used and how he positioned himself for the kind of clients he needs. He was able to charge decent fees because he believed he deserves more based on the value he's providing not just because he did something outstandingly different. Sadly, we're yet to get here or even closer in Nigeria. I believe it's high time Nigerian freelancers understand the professional aspects of what they are doing and request for the respect they actually deserve. Julius2214: |
Can you imagine someone paying you 500 Naira for your well researched 1000 words articles? This is what most freelancers in Nigeria have had to deal with. It’s annoying that after series of promises of a changed life from marketers and online coaches, most freelancers only end up with lowly paying jobs after years of hard work. Many of these freelancers have given off what they feel is their best. They’ve worked hard. But there’s no difference. As someone that’s been in the system for years, I feel I know what goes. I know the amount if effort you’ll put in creating something substantial for your clients even against so many odds most times. I know the sleepless nights we’ve had to go through to learn so we can give out something good. So I believe deeply inside of me, every freelancer deserves some decent paying jobs. ( You can take that to the bank). Yes. We deserve it. But we can’t all get it. And here’s the 7 reasons why most freelancers get lowly paying job. 1. They charge less than the job is worth. So the number one reason most freelancers get lowly paying jobs is because they keep charging less. Because they want to get more jobs. But this doesn’t work. Stop under cutting your stuff. It won’t drive your income. You won’t compete better with established competition. Why? Because you will need more reduction. And more reduction in price to stay in this market. This is one advice I wished I ever had when I started out years back. I get upset when creatives allow people treat them like “a piece of crap” Just because they want to increase their chances of making profit. This is deadly. Imagine charging 500 NGN (Less than 2 USD) for writing one thousand words just because you want to survive? That’s bunkum. You’re not a piece of trash. And you can’t be treated as such. Stop under charging people for your hard work because you think you’ll lose out… Let me tell you. You will not die. Or what if they didn’t show up at this time? Won’t you still survive? The moment you begin charging people pennies for your hard work, you’re setting a string of repeated lowly charges in motion. This is different from trying to gain experience. Get yourself some standards. You think they will want to pay more when you gain more experience? No they won’t. They will keep asking for lesser charges because they are used to it. And the moment you try to increase your charges they will leave. Instead of competing by beating down your charges. Get yourself some standard. Get a reputation. And compete based on the value you'll bring on board. 2. They allow clients disrespect their time and effort. Another reason most clients gets lowly paying jobs is because they allow their clients mess up with their time and expertise. It happens all over the place. A client will take too long to supply you with details of their project even when they’ve given you a deadline… They will take too long to review the work for final updates even when they know you have to move to other things. That’s not good for you. It will hit back big time. Over time they will begin to feel that’s the best you deserve. And the cycle will continue. Then you will be finding time to fix up a project you’re supposed to have finished up. I have been here. Know when you have to help your client wrap his head around what he really wants… And when you have to take a walk from a clients that won’t respect your time. 3. They don’t have regards for what they do as freelancers. When you don’t respect what you do, no one will respect it. This is one other reason freelancers get lowly paid jobs. You don’t think your job deserves better. So how would others pay you more? Preception rules the world. There’s a difference between real value and perceived value. So in the freelance market, you don’t really get your real value. You get paid your perceived value. The perceive value of what you do Is what will set your pay. Forget about whatever price you fix. No one will take your prices serious unless they feel you deserve it. In the freelance market, you are worth nothing more than your perceived value. And you can increase your perception. It doesn’t matter if you’re working from your bedroom or sitting room or a spacious office in the biggest City Hall. If you don’t respect, regard and take your hustle seriously no one will do it for you. So start by creating changing your mindset from a petty freelancer to a business owner. Because everything starts from the mindset. Create a certain level of excellence for your business. And make it distinguished for that. Set a schedule for activities and stick to it. Show up when it’s time to show up. Stop giving excuses. Don’t just stay in that niche. Decide to stand out. 4. They focus on profit instead of growth. Most freelancers keep getting lowly paid Jobs because they are not growing their skills. As a freelancer, your skill is your biggest asset. That’s what gets you the job and the money. The web for instance changes dramatically. Meaning most things that worked 2-5 years ago might not be working anymore. So as a freelancer you have to stay updated And get better jobs or keep getting lowly paid jobs. This is what it is. The moment your skill set gets mediocre you begin to lose money. Because the more skills you get, the more you sell. The more you sell, the more your money comes in. Profit is a result of growth. So more growth and expansion equals more profit. So grow your skills my friend. 5. Most Freelancers are scared of selling. Because selling is not sexy. That’s why these freelancers keep getting lowly paid jobs. I have been stuck here. I can’t lie to you. But the truth is, how can someone buy from you when they don’t know what you do? It’s not possible is it? So selling is the unavoidable if you must live better as a freelancer. You can’t afford not to sell. There are ways you can use to sell your stuff without sounding like a scam marketer. Learn it. 6. They don’t have a why. This one is deep. Most freelancers get lowly paying jobs because they don’t have a WHY. Your why is the one reason that gets you out of bed. The one reason that gets you on the grind even when your limbs scream No. Your WHY is the reason you would give up anything to do just this because you want to succeed in this. Most people don’t have a WHY. And it’s very disturbing. That’s why you feel inspired to work today. Tomorrow you don’t. And when you don’t have a strong convincing reason for doing what you’re doing then you’re just like any other person. Meaning that as your client, I can choose you or I choose anyone else. Afterall you’re not doing anything special or different. So I’ll still get the same services. Butwhat if you had a reason I can relate to as a client? What if you had a strong WHY that made you different from others which I can distinctively see? See friend, your why is what sets you apart. Take a look at Apple Inc. What do you think makes them stand out in the midst of a highly competitive electronics Industry? That’s because while others are creating mobile phones and electronics, Apple is finding a way to challenge the status quo. To create a paradigm that will give their clients a whole new experience. That’s their why. That’s what sets them apart. That’s what makes clients line up to buy Apple even when their products are more expensive than most products with same utility. This is why as a digital agency, at Victor Winners Digital Services here, we don’t just build websites we Inspire people to connect with their dreams. That is our WHY. That’s our essence. It differentiates us from the competition. It inspires us. Our why gives us a distinct path to pursue. So Your success or failure as a freelancer all boils down to your why. From the way people will perceive you, the way you relate with your clients and even the amount you will get paid. So fix your why. 7. Expand your network. Networking is one of the hallmarks of freelancing. Unfortunately, most freelancers don’t realize this. So they keep getting a cycle of lowly paid jobs. As a freelancer, A good chunk of your work will be based on recommendations. So most of the time, you will need someone to recommend you to someone that needs your services. This is why you’ll want to network with people. Let them know what you do. And how you do it. Network with your fellow freelancers too. Especially those ones offering complimentary services. Let your family and loved ones know what you do. Tell your friends. Exchange complimentary cards and contact details at events. You never know who will need your stuff out there. Commit to excellence. And you will find your space. https://www.victorwinners.com/reasons-why-most-freelancers-get-lowly-paying-jobs/ |
More Story Telling. Less advice. We're already used to telling people exactly what they should know instead of how we do the things we teach. As one of the latest digital trends to watch in 2018, instead of telling people what to do as it's always been, brands are going to be more focused on telling their stories. Showing how they evolve the result they create. Why they create the things the create. And the passion behind each creative process. This will Allow their audience to learn from and relate with their brands through those stories. In a nutshell, As brands strive to create more connections with their audience, throughout our content marketing efforts across blogs, social media, emails etc we're going to have more of documenting rather than advising. |
Unless you’re still in the stone age (which is not possible anyway), I’m sure you’ve come across some form of digital advertising. Yeah. Sometimes it pops up as a video on your facebook page… Sometimes as an ad while watching your favorite YouTube channel or even using an app on your phone. So digital advertising (aka internet advertising) has not only come to stay, it’s already competing heavily with offline adverts… And why shouldn’t it? According to a research by Magna, a media agency, digital media will take out 44 percent of all money spent on advertising in 2018. As if that’s not almost shocking enough, it’s estimated that this figure will rise up to 50 percent by the year 2020. Of course more people are having greater access to the internet from different parts of the world compared to their television and newspapers so digital advertising can only increase per year at least over a certain period of time. Alrighty. Let's dive right into the digital trends to watch in 2018. If you are reading this article, then it means you want to be prepared for the year 2018. You know that the year 2017 is behind you and it doesn’t matter if it is a good one and a bad one. The only thing you can take with you in 2018, is your experience. Trends which were good in 2017, may not work in the 2018 so it is important to enter a new year with a blank slate. So, what are the trends you have to know about in the following year? Change your ads to video Video has proven to be better at showing your product than any other advertising method. If you haven’t already switched to videos, I suggest you do that asap because people are more willing to trust a video than a picture. We are all aware that Photoshop is out there so if there are 10000 filters for human’s face, there are twice as many for your products. Even though I believe that most serious businesses don’t use that on their pictures, I still believe more when I see the video of the product than the picture. Do you have a website optimized for mobile phones? Everything has to be Android and iOS oriented because people use their mobile phones now more than ever. It doesn’t matter if they are riding on the train, drinking coffee, standing in the line in the supermarket; people’s eyes are glued to the mobile screen. I admit myself, I do that way too often and most of the time I “google” on the phone, especially if I am ordering. That means if your site is not responsive and I can’t move around it on my phone, I will close your tab and look for someone who can give me that. You can be certain that I am not the only one. Actually, when you think about it, you too do that, right? Chatbots: You can find Chatbots on almost every site at the moment, especially if they are selling something. Chatbots are cool, they are some sort of a customer support, but do you really need them? Depending on what you are doing. For example, if you are relying on SEO to bring you visitors then you don’t have to have a Chatbot, because people will come to you by Google. That means that people will write a question and Google will answer them by providing your website in one of the search results. If the majority of your traffic comes from Facebook or Google ads, then I suggest you get a good quality Chatbot because those people came to your site because they want to buy something from you. A customer support is awesome in situations like those, right? As you can see, you have to adjust your website as much as it is possible to the users. Your most important task is to provide users good and quality content because that is the proper way to have big public and regular clients. https://www.victorwinners.com/digital-advertising-trends-to-watch-in-2018/ |
When i first started blogging, i didn’t know what to blog about. Blogging about personal development and many other religious stuff was just an automatic thing for me because that’s what i was writing about on social media so i started with that. It’s over 5 years. My blog is more focused now than it used to be. And the reason is because I’ve been able to find clarity on what i should be blogging about. I mean I’ve spent time blogging again and again until i discovered the blogging topics I’m really drawn to. The particular theme that brings out the best in me as well as add more value to my audience. I’ve also realized what’s going to pay my bills and the kind of content that will bring visitors back to my blog again and again. When the time comes, this is what you will also find out, as a new blogger if you want to blog in the long run. As someone that’s already familiar with writing on social media, when looking for a blog topic to write about, start with the same topic you’ve been writing about on your social media. If you’re totally a new blogger, find a topic for your blog in a niche you’re comfortable writing about. Start with a blog topic that’s dear to your heart or something that’s very easy for you so you’ll not get easily discouraged. And keep blogging again and again. I always tell new bloggers: making money blogging immediately should not be your primary motive just yet, except you’ve put some background work in place before starting your blog. So like i said, find a blog topic from the niche you’re comfortable with. Continue writing and building your brand within that niche. As time goes on, you’ll learn what works. You’ll gain experience and clarity then from there you can keep tweaking your niche until you get exactly what you want. Sometimes the tweaking might even be happening automatically. So for instance if you were blogging about personal development generally, as you continue blogging, with time you can keep niching down until you get to focus on say “personal development for teenagers" or "personal development for young adults or whatever". And then you will be able to write books and evolve solutions basically for this audience. On the other hand if you can put up some background work for yourself then the better. By background work i mean researching the blogging niche that works. Let’s say for instance if your primary motive is to make money, you find out which area of blogging generates the most money currently. Your Google Search engine, Google keyword tool and other free tools on the internet can help a lot here. After the research, trim down to the blog topic area that will be least problematic for you. Like an area that is very productive with less learning curve. After finding the blog topic to write about, the next thing to do is to train yourself on how to write for that niche. You’ll need to do this because as someone blogging for a specific blog topic area, you have to write in a way that will suit your niche and audience. Alright! So with everything in place you can now head over to get some quality training in online via free youtube videos or other blogging websites like victorwinners.com or you can get a paid training if that's cool with you. Getting this exposure will help you get started on the niche you really want without the stress of blogging on any other niche. After you’re comfortable in the specific blog topic area, you can then focus on building your brand, getting traffic and making money from your blog. Remember you can’t become a blogger until you start blogging. And yes, you can start a blog right now! https://www.victorwinners.com/how-to-find-a-blog-topic-to-write-about/ |
You remember those days after traveling home on a Christmas holiday? Everyone gathers around to greet you and then your niece looks at you inquisitively with the piece of snacks you just bought stuck in her armpit, uncle, what do you do for a living? Your heart skips a beat then begins to double it’s speed. A thousand and one lies spin around your head. You begin to ask her about school so she’ll forget the question. As if she didn’t notice your tricks, she asks again. But uncle, What do you do in the city? Suddenly you smile like an embarrassed kid. you look towards your toes and then begin to stammer, oh that? Errr. .. I work online. ONLINE? Do people work online? Where is online? She looks at you in amazement. You’re blushing embarrassment already. You begin to stutter in an effort to explain to your little niece the nature of your work. Her mum suddenly noticed your discomfort. Ekaete, leave uncle alone. Come and eat your food. She calls out the daughter. Then you heave a sigh of relief. You’ve been there right? There have been times you’ve had to think up words to describe the things you do to people right? If you’re in Nigeria like I am, I’m sure so many people have taken you to be a scammer. One lazy chap sitting on Facebook or that guy who’s tweeting away his life. The PayPal, Adsense and Some internet companies of this world are scared of associating with you too. Sometimes you just wonder if the whole thing is worth it at all. Because so many times, it doesn’t make sense to you. You’re confused. You heard so many people are making a living Online. You believed you’ll also buid a successful online business but here you are. Stuck in the middle of nowhere. Yeah. You don’t need a sermon. And I’m not about to preach one. I’m here to give you a hand. And perhaps put that hand around you. Because we’re in this together. You see all those folks looking for an explanation about what you do online? Believe me you don’t owe anyone nothing. If you take a look around, some of your pals are making it in this same online business you’re doing. I see you’ve been worried… But can I tell you something? There was a time I was far more worried than you. Because nothing was working. The folks I started with made it so big that they were setting up structures while I was still struggling to even buy data subscription. Familiar right? I worked hard but earned little next to nothing. I was worried, troubled, confused. Then I found out, worrying kills enthusiasm. Comparing yourself with others drowns out your inspiration. After many years of pains, hard work and little to nothing profits, i learned about 6 core secrets that can help you build a successful online business in Nigeria, India or any other Third World country.. Let me sum it this way… 1. Find yourPurpose). You can’t tell me you’re starting an online business without any reason at all. Or without any solid plan of how your small online business is going to grow and make profit. Unfortunately this is what I see all the time. People will be like, Victor, I want to start an online business and when you ask them, what’s your financial growth plan, they tell you they want to place ads. Come on! This isn’t how it works. Going this way will only get you a mediocre business. If you want to build a successful online business. You must set out with a plan that will help you succeed. Are you planning to evolve a coaching business with your blog? Sell your stuff to your readers? Sell your books or get people to advertise on your blog? You see online business is not all about entertainment blogging. There are genuine ways you can use your expertise, experience or skills to start a digital business right here in Nigeria. So ask yourself, how can i make this skill, or talent or experience for me? fine tune your strategy towards that. Then get to implement the strategy at the right time. Because we’re not joking here. If you want to succeed with your online business you must take your business as serious as someone starting out a peculiar offline business like a bank for instance. This mindset will help you. It will help you decide the time you wake up. The time you spend doing activities related to your online business and how you even relate with your potential clients. When you find the purpose you want to focus as a business, focus on it. Build a brand. And tweak it where necessary. 2. Learn every day. Read. Attend trainings online and offline. It's surprising that so many digital entrepreneur sit back and claim "experts" after learning for a little time. But things don't work that way. You’ll be surprised that even after creating content for over 4 years and training people, I still attend trainings myself. Yes! Because when it comes to online businesses, trends change so fast. Most times the things that worked just two years ago might not be working anymore. Learning everyday keeps you at the top of your game. And you don’t have to spend a ton of hours learning because time is of essence. You can learn in bits. And be sure to try out doing the things you learn. This solidifies the knowledge. 3. Focus your effort on where you get optimum results. Forget about working on what gives you maximum pleasure. Strive to get maximum results. That old 80/20 rule still works. 20 percent of what you do is what will give you 80 percent of the results. Find that 20 percent and focus on it. The 20 percent could be promoting your content across social media, writing on a particular social media forum, or producing a particular kind of content. Find out that thing that if you don't, you won't really have to bother about 80 percent of the other things. And spend more time producing more results from there. 4. Learn and apply what worked for the successful people in your niche where necessary. Or even combine strategies to evolve your own unique strategy. For instance as an online entrepreneur, Gary Vaynerchuk gained excellent results and build a large audience by producing daily video content on YouTube. Many people copied the strategy. Of course so many new online business owners have gain success with this formula. But that doesn’t mean it’s the only way there is. Or that it’s going to work for you too. I have seen so many amateur digital entrepreneurs quitting and leaving their online business because they feel they can’t make it work. Most of them didn’t even consider they are using the wrong strategy and model. Look at the “advertising model” for instance. So many newbie content marketers and bloggers come up with this idea” OK, I will set up a blog, post content and make money through Google adverts”. Then sometimes they set up these blogs, write content, apply to Google and then where Google refuses to accept their blog for Google Adsense. Then, the trouble begins. See my friend, there’s actually no one size fits it all when it comes to setting up a successful online business in Nigeria, India other Third World countries or wherever you are. Strategies works based on a combination of circumstances. And things change so fast here in the online world. You must understand this. And against all odds, you must understand there’s been a handful of successful online business too and yours can be one of such. So when you’re trying to set up your online business filter out the rumors, don't worry about becoming the next Linda Ikeji. Find out what strategy is working. Then see what you can evolve as your strategy. Your own strategy could be producing audio or written content. Combining a popular strategy in your niche like using one content to produce different format for instance etc… It can also be cross targeting across complimentary niches. Just find what works for you and develop on that. Remember this doesn’t mean you should get stuck with this single strategy in forever. Evolve with it. 5. Connect with people both within and outside your niche. Feel free to tell them about what you’re doing. Ask for recommendations where necessary. You don’t know who would really want to help you until you approach the person. And in fact, you can barter help. By helping someone with what they want and getting something you need in return. For example, you can help a fellow online business owner get some good and honest review while the same person also gives you a review in return. And where you don’t have clients to get testimonials and reviews, you can do free stuff and get some good reviews for a start. 6. Sell. Sell right. Sell with sense. Yes. So many new business owners are scared of selling. Either because they feel they are not good enough compared to the older goons in the industry. Yes I was scared too when I started. But I had to get up. Because for real, we’re not here to look at anyone’s face. We’re here to exchange value. And get me right, if you don’t sell, no one will buy from you. Yes. Forget about whether you’re new in the industry or not. The first thing you should remember is that you have something to offer. That’s why you’re here. So focus on making your offering unique. And different from what other people are producing. There’s one mistake some new online business owners make. They focus on selling before even getting started. And then immediately, their potential audience write them off as scam. Look, this is it, the online world is a bit different from the brick and mortar world. Here in the digital world, people will need to Know, Trust and kind of Like you before they can do business with you. You’ll want to avoid this mistake by focusing on producing valuable content. Exchanging free and indepth value with your audience, Gaining the Know, Like and Trust factor within your niche before selling. Above all, work hard and smart all of the time. Most importantly, understand you’re good enough. Say this to yourself everyday… I am 5 star online business person. I deserve success. My stuff is one of the best in the industry. I don’t owe anyone explanations for working online Because I love what I do. And then go beyond saying this. Now that your mind is prepared, Give your very best to become these things. I could have gone on and on listing steps you should take in order to build a successful online business in Nigeria, or any African country or wherever you are… But trust me, these are the most fundamental steps you need to evolve a successful online business. Now that you know, i can’t wait to see you at the top. So get to work. Implement this knowledge. https://www.victorwinners.com/how-to-build-a-successful-online-business-in-nigeria-india-or-other-third-world-country/ |

I remain your gee, Victor Winners. https://www.victorwinners.com/how-to-build-a-successful-online-business-in-nigeria-india-or-other-third-world-country/ |

You’ve decided you want to start an entertainment website right? Great Idea. They've probably told you such things don't work anymore. Because the Linda Ikejis of this world have taken over. But can I tell you something? 95 percent of the things they told you about how there's no space for beginners who intend to start a website is just a beer parlor analysis. Drop those stuff. And get this into your head: Success is a personal thing. And you don't really reach the peak of what you're doing because of the thing you're doing... You reach the peak of success because of how you're doing what you're doing. So in your own interest, you'll want to drop everything they've told you about starting a successful entertainment website. Because most of them is a lazy man's advice. Okay! It’s a known fact you don’t need any business degree to start a successful entertainment website so the fact you’re reading this post is a good omen already… Because you’re just s few steps to the tips that will help you in achieving this dream. Now before we start, let me ask you this question, what exactly comes to your mind when people talk about entertainment websites, blogs and all that? I know you have your own personal definition of what an entertainment website should be… In any case, an entertainment website is a website that focuses on producing entertainment driven content for it’s users. I’m sure you might have asked yourself why is he talking about “entertainment website” all the time. Is there any difference between an entertainment website and an entertainment blog? Well, there’s some difference. And here’s it… While an entertainment website is somewhat diverse in focus – meaning it can host a full fledged entertainment company as well as publish different format of entertainment content… An entertainment blog on the other hand is a bit limited to publishing a certain niched focus content. For instance your entertainment blog could be focused on publishing celebrity gossip… Another entertainment blog could be focused on publishing entertainment news that cuts across diverse sectors of the society. Still another blogger can focus on publishing latest songs and movie reviews etc. An entertainment website on the other hand can decide to be a full fledged media company with the above topics as part of it’s areas of focus. Alright so now we’ve sorted out what marks the difference between an entertainment blog and an entertainment website… Now let’s talk about how to create a successful entertainment website. OK. So assuming you’ve gotten a domain, web hosting and you’re ready to set up a successful entertainment website. The following are the things you should consider… 1. What exactly do you want? Here’s where you’ll really have to find out what you want for your website. What do you want the entertainment site to be able to do? Is it to upload music and videos? Or do you want to upload Music, Videos and add a blog to the site? If you’re uploading music for instance it’ll be appropriate to find out the kind of music you’ll need on the website. A good question to ask is, am I going to upload foreign, local, spiritual music etc. This is called niching. Since entertainment is a very broad areas of interest, finding a niche helps you focus on a specific area, thereby targeting people interested in such areas. Note that while doing this, things like your budget, geo location of your audience and purpose of starting the website must be put into considerations too. 2. What’s the motivation behind your decision to set up an entertainment website? Of course you can’t just get to start an entertainment website because it’s what everyone else is doing… There’s absolutely a reason you want to set up this website… So what’s this reason? What motivates you to do this? Your motivation could be anything… From getting a website that will help you share your passion to making money with your entertainment website and even something to show off to your crush. So here we go… Are you doing this because you’re an entertainment enthusiast… You want to make money with your online entertainment business or you’re just doing it for the fun? Do you have a vision you want to achieve with this journey? Here’s a good time to write it down. Like you want to become the most popular online entertainment company etc Knowing why you’re doing this will help you get started on the right track. Especially if the journey ever gets boring, you’ll always find a good reason to stay put. 3. What’s the plan? After you’re done finding out your motivation, the next step is to come up with a plan of action. Here’s s good time to take a good look at the vision you wrote down in step one. Ask yourself, what exactly can I do today that will help me achieve this vision. If I do this same thing tomorrow and throughout the week, what will I have? Again, if I were to keep doing this same thing for the whole month, will that get me close to achieving the vision? Now, take an imaginary look at how you’d like everything to turn out for your entertainment website. How long would it really take before things can turn out this way? If there was anything you knew, to be done to achieve this or steps to be taken, what steps would it be, and what action would be taken at each step. Write everything down as you keep getting insight. You can even include a rough estimate of when you’ll have to monetize the website or provide added services if necessary (yeah, you can also make side bucks with your entertainment website). PS : Be sure your plan involves steps that will guide your success including growth strategies…And don’t forget your plan is not something static. It’s just a guideline to keep you on the safe side. So It can be edited and made to fit in as the journey proceeds. 4. How much money do I need? Oh I'm not going to scare you at all but hey, like every other business, you need money to make money. So you're going to need some money to get started. You're going to need some money to get the website designed and set up completely. You may also need some money to create visibility and awareness about your site through advertising. Yes. But advertising is not compulsory. Although it can help you gain wider visibility, make some noise and get your brand out there. If you don't have money, there's some good news still. You can promote your website through other channels like content marketing, social media, guest posting, link building etc. There are so many ways to do this. Though you should be ready to work. 5. Work. Work. Work. : Now here’s the best part. And the part that will make the vision you wrote down come true. As an entertainment blogger, you’ll have to produce great stuff. This is what will differentiate you from the sea of entertainment bloggers out there. If you’re providing music, make it stand out. Get your entertainment website known for one or two things that no one else is doing. You’ll have to provide great content that’s suitable for your audience. This is what will keep them coming back to your website. If you can’t provide fresh and outstanding content then you’re just like any other blogger. And trust me your users know where to go. So find a way to stand out. Give your audience a customized experience they can never get elsewhere. 6. Get known on social media: Find out the social media your audience hang out, create profiles there and link them to your blog. Get active on the social media. Be sure to share your posts here. Create contest, rewards and even promote your page once in a while, if your budget can take care of it. 7. Reach out to celebrities. I If you’ve got a celebrity gist section on your entertainment website or if your website is focused on celebrities, you’ll want to reach out to these celebrities and follow them on the social media… When done well, you’ll find interesting stuff to write about right from their timeline. Tag or if necessary, find a way to notify the celebrity or their handlers whenever you’re writing about them. Especially when you share those cool stuff. Share the link with them and encourage them to share with their audience. Connect with other entertainment website owners. Exchange ideas. Build friendships and guest post for one another when necessary. There are such groups on different social media platforms, like Facebook, Twitter etc. Find and join them. 8. Get creative. Don’t try to set up a dry website or entertaining blog. Be entertaining. That’s why you’re the owner of an entertainment website… To entertain your readers. Give people a reason to feel satisfied on visiting your blog and they will come back. Get entertaining contents and curate them exceptionally. Make international viral stuff local and save it to your audience. Set out time to think up creative posts ideas for your website and document them. 9. Don’t give up. There will be days things seem like it’s not going to work out. Understand everything takes time. And you’re going to grow one of the most successful entertainment websites if you don’t give up. Trust me there’s so much more to write about on how to set up a successful entertainment website but you can’t learn everything until you get to work. Now before I conclude, I want you to know that setting up a successful entertainment website is something that’s really possible for you. And you don’t need to have any experience… All you need is passion and readiness to work. The good news is, you can start as a website, backed with a good plan, consistency and work, and before you realize it your entertainment website can evolve into an entertainment power house. So the decision is left for you today. And I know you can do this. http://www.victorwinners.com/2018/02/27/start-successful-entertainment-website/ |
Lols I can understand. But in any case, adding your own distinct perspective to the stuff you blog about will really help in defining you and your blogging brand. Heard about content curation before? Sites as big as Huffpost, Forbes, Neil Patel you name them. These guys engage in it. And then documentary blogging? Check out Gary Vaynerchuck, Seth Godin etc. There are still many ways to sift out the noise and give your audience something remarkable to read. But all na work sha. Because you will have work if you must stand out. propanet: |
Lols. Brother it depends sha. There are still bloggers with pedigree. And besides our copy and paste nation, there are still some people getting it right. Thing is, blogging is work. I mean serious business but so many people are not ready to see it that way. Many are interested in taking shortcuts. And this is what you get when things like that happens. But like I said earlier, there are people doing great stuff with their blogs here in this Nigeria. And I feel when compared to places like India, Nigerian blogosphere is not yet saturated. There are so many niches lying underutilized. kolawoleibukun: |
Lols. You're right bro. For people like us, we started blogging as broke folks. (Although I won't advice anyone to start blogging and expect to start making money immediately. That's a very wrong mindset and I see this everyday here in Nigeria). When we started, we didn't have people to tell us any thing like it takes some time to build certain things without much cash. But we had passion for what we were doing. And we used certain principles that when combined with our passion compensated for some of the things we didn't have. Just like every other business, as a new blogger it might take a little bit of time (and I'm being generous here) to generate huge income from your blog. Like there's no magic wand. So it's right one starts blogging as a part time business until the blog can scale to a certain level of income. Also, there are certain strategies that will help a new blogger scale his blog much faster but these too will depend on certain things like the niche for instance and the sacrifices he's willing to make. Away from that, using adverts is a good and faster way to get your blog out there for readers but an even better way is... Creating top notch and consistent articles for your blog, Sharing on your social media, Leveraging platforms that will help you build backlinks like guest posting and sharing on platforms with high domain Authority then finally, Using the right keywords and being able to optimize your blog for the search engine. These steps will help any newbie without much advertising dollars to spend around. And it will also help such person generate a decent amount of organic traffic which is always the most ideal kind of traffic. Mobsync: |

The dream of every blogger is to build a wildly successful blog. But... Sometimes, starting out as a new blogger is you find out the task is not only a bit overwhelming sometimes you can become really confused considering the myriads of information you’ll have to deal with for a start. In this post, which is my answer to questions from readers and other new bloggers, I have listed out 6 of the most important tips for new and old bloggers that will help you create a wildly successful blog.. With these tips, you should get a head start on your way to creating a wildly successful blog. Alright then. Let’s get started.. This is a summary of what you’ll learn below. Know your 4wh: why what when where how. Know your audience. Write content. Write content. Promote. Sell. Okay. So… So. Many people been asking like Victor what’s the best blogging tips for new bloggers. Now I will try to answer this briefly in this post. The number one tip I will give any new blogger is this… 1. Know your 4WH. Your 4WH is your What. Why. When. Where. How. It’s like asking yourself, What do I really want to do? Or achieve with this stuff I'm doing? This answer helps you understand your motive and then streamline your actions towards achieving it. So for instance if my motive is to blog so I can make money blogging. I will just write it down. Then ask myself, why do I really want to do this? This leads us to the second W: Why? Your why is your purpose. It’s what is going to stir you when you feel like quitting. Many people give up on blogging and other digital business too soon because they don’t really understand their why. We’re not going to let this happen that’s why you’re going to really ask yourself, what’s the purpose behind my blogging. If it’s all about making money online so you can further your studies or get better accommodation for your family, you have to write it down. The next thing is When: This talks about the timeline for achieving the objective of your blogging. Here you ask yourself, with my level of knowledge for instance, at what time can I comfortably achieve this? You don’t have to tie yourself to any time. All you need do is create a powerful timeline that will keep you committed to reaching the goal. After that we’ll talk about the fourth “W” Where: this helps you understand where the majority of your effort will be focused. As you already know, blogging is done online so understanding this helps you put in place the necessary software and hardware appliances that will help you operate from online. So for instance you will get your tablets, smartphone and laptops ready. Plan when you should use alternatives like public computers, business centres when necessary etc. Then the very last component is the “H“: H stands for How. It answers the question, how am I going to really achieve these blogging objectives? This is where you’ll set up a blogging schedule. Like for instance, schedules days and hours you’ll write, days you will promote across social media, other blogs and platforms, Days you will finally sell etc. Affix a target expectation to each of those activities. So for instance if I promote my blog across social media for this number of times within this week, I should be able to reach this number of people. Or if I do this consistently at so and so time, I will have that. This briefly explains how you will achieve the laid down goals. And you should write this down. Improve on it where necessary. And make sure you follow it every single time you’re engaging in any of your blogging activities. 2. Know your audience. OK now the next thing to do is getting to know your audience. Depending on your goal set out in H1, you should be able to know which audience will help you achieve this goal. So let’s say you’re trying to become a professional blogging coach for instance, you will want to target website owners, small businesses and other blogging enthusiasts with your posts. Same thing for someone planning to make money blogging through advertising. You will want to create posts that will bring in your target audience to your blog. 3. Write contents. Yes. And for the non initiates, content is your blog updated. Be it videos, podcast, graphics etc, whatever you will be updating on your blog that’s content. So to be able to create an outstanding blog, you must write content that is great, well researched and positioned towards achieving a particular objective. You don’t want to write content for writing sake right? So before you get started, ask yourself, based on my 4WH, what’s the objective of this content? What do I want to achieve with this? This will help you measure the impact of the content at the end of the day. And with this, you will understand if the content has achieved it’s aim or not. From there if it’s not attained it’s objectives, you can decide the next line of action to take. Whether to tweak or make it better next time. 4. Write content. Yes. This is the second sub heading I’m writing about contents. To really show you how important it is… You have to write good contents for your readers. Study your audience. Understand the kind of content they like depending on your 4WH up there. Depending on your purpose, some content will need to be small like 500 words text contents for instance or a 5 minutes video. Some contents might have to be larger too. Like 2-5000 words text, 30 minutes video etc. What’s going to determine the length of your content will be the purpose of the content. That’s why for instance if you’re writing a tutorial on how to publish on amazon for instance it might have to be far more than 1000 words etc. Compared to writing a summary about the latest accident in your neighborhood. So understand your audience and write content that will meet their needs. 5. Promote: This is called shipping. Ship your content to where your audience are gathered. Get it away from your blog. Get it to your fb page, twitter handle, instagram, YouTube etc. These platforms helps you expand the reach of your contents. When you’re sharing your contents on social media, you’ll want to organize it in a way that will attract your readers to click on the links and read on your blog. Try to avoid the mistake of sharing empty links and hoping people will just click and read your blog. Most newbies make this mistakes. This will make people see you as being spammy. 6. Sell: Yes. This is the Golden Egg of blogging and content marketing, selling. So you should be able to have something people can buy from you as a blogger. Now this doesn’t mean you should start selling as soon as you start blogging. Many people make this mistake. And then it becomes a good turnoff to most readers. So as a new blogger, what you’ll want to do first of all is to build an audience. Give them some good free stuff for a while. Then sell them your stuff after your blog has gained a reasonable traffic and readers. Your products here can be physical items or digital products or even other people’s products you sell for commissions. Just get them ready and get set to sell when you’ve created some good ripples with your blog. This is all we got for now. PS: Remember your 4WH will also help you decide on your branding and most other things about your blog and digital business. Got any questions? One of the biggest nightmare of every website owner is to wake up to the news that their website’s been hacked. It’s terrifying. Mind boggling. And overwhelming, to say the least. So Has your website been hacked before? Well, In 2017, my website was hacked. I don’t know why it happened. Or the reason behind it immediately. But i had this huge picture posted on my login page. On a curious check, i was able to find out who was behind the incidence. Ransomeware! I didn’t know their mission or the reason behind the attack so i decided to carry out some research. And this is what i came out with…. A true story of one big shot website that got hacked... With this, you should be able to have a feel of what happens when your website gets hacked. In 2015, a group called “the impact group” stole the data of Ashley Madison, one of the world’s popular dating sites that helps married folks engage in extra marital affairs. The data including phone numbers, email account, home address and banking details of the site users were stolen. The hackers asked the website owners to bring down the site threatening to expose the identity of the users and publish the whole information on the internet if the company refused to bring down the site. Considering the economic loss that could amount to, Ashley refused to budge or oblige this request. So the hackers went on with their threat. They published the entire information on the internet. On the dark web precisely. Now, imagine the distraught in people’s faces when they found their loved one’s email on the site. The blackmail and feelings of betrayal. People were scammed to pay money so they won’t be exposed. Others were humiliated and publicly shamed. According to a report by fortune magazine, so far, the Ashley Madison’s hackers have posted personal details from 32 million of it’s users on the net. At this point I’m sure you’ll like to know what kind of information you have on your website and blogs. And how safe these information are on in there. Now, the number one reason hackers hack into other people’s account will always be the same. To steal your data or compromise your platform for their own interests. If you’re a public figure for instance a person can hack into your account just because he wants to use it to spread information that’s against your personality, brand or what ever you represent. For corporate organization and banks, people may hack into your websites just to steal your clients’ data for criminal purposes. Remember the guy that was caught some months ago after allegedly being paid more than half a million naira to hack into JAMB website? Somehow you may think oh i don’t have a popular blog or website. So why would people be interested in hacking into my account? Or why should i even protect my website from hackers? One thing you must know is that most hacking activities are automated. You have to understand, most of these hacking activities are automatic in nature. Only in few cases are they specifically targeted at a particular website or blog etc.. Just like Google bots crawls websites to find out latest contents and so on, most hackers have their bots crawl websites to find out vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities could come up through your web host, third party themes or templates you’re using, plugins or even weak passwords. Whenever the bot discovers any vulnerability, your site will be compromised. Although there are a few cases where some major sites gets SPECIFICALLY targeted. Like the Ashley Madison hacking case. And these are mostly to settle some scores. Be it political, economic or even social scores but besides that it would serve you well to understand that any website can be hacked. What do hackers gain from hacking people’s website? 1. Settling scores. Like i mentioned earlier for the targeted hacking activities, these ones are most times used for settling personal or corporate scores. Sometimes it could be politically motivated by political opponents. At other times, it could be induced by your competition. Especially if you’re into any activity that’s generating income… Your competitor could target your site just to redirect your clients to his website. Using your resources. Hackers can plant a malicious code on your servers and this would give them access to sending spam messages to your website users or causing other havoc and you’ll never trace it to them. 2. Hacktivists. These guys are just like activists. Only that they use hacking to send across their message. These were the kind of guys that hacked my site. Their motive is to get your attention at a particular cause. And they could either lock you out of your site (like they did to me) or use other means. 3. To get information. Hackers can get into hacking your site just to get some information. It could be your user’s data or any other information and they can use same for whatever purposes they want. For instance, stealing email addresses of your clients to send targeted campaign or spam emails. How to protect your website from hackers? There are certain steps you can take that will really help you protect your website safe from hackers in 2018 and beyond. 1. Get a reliable web host. According to an infographic report by Wp Template, 41 percent of hacking activities is caused by vulnerabilities in the web hosts. So before getting a website, you’ll have to really consider the web hosting provider you’ll be using… I’d highly recommend you avoid shared hosting but where you don’t have much to spend on dedicated hosting, make adequate background checks on the web hosts. Find out how reliable they are. How often they provide regular scan and backups on their servers, Other people’s reviews on their hosting services and then settle for high quality web hosting. Change your password periodically. One of the effective measures that will help you keep your website from hackers is using strong passwords that will be difficult for people to guess. Be sure to mix it up your password with special characters and numbers. Then change the default username from admin to something suitable, say your name (especially for WordPress users). Also to stay safe, you’ll have to change your password at intervals. Whether you’ve noticed any suspicious activity on your website or not. Limit login attempts to your website with extensions (and plugins) like Wordfence. Or Login lock down. Furthermore, To give your website extra security from hackers, you will also want to hide your wp-config.login. This can be done technically by moving wp-config.php out of the WordPress core via your ftp however there are plugins to help you do this if you’re not technically savvy. Although this is not entirely necessary unless your website has been highly targeted by hackers. Get regular backups for your website. This will save you so much pain if you wake up one day and your website is gone. (talking from experience here). Don’t depend on the backup from your web hosts alone. (it failed me). To save your website from hackers, be sure you have a consistent external back up of your site, different from the one on your servers. At Victorwinners.com! we make sure all our client’s websites are backed up externally. There are both paid and free platforms that can help you back up your website to the cloud or elsewhere. Don’t accept any web design that comes without an automatic backup. This will save you lots of pain in the future. Update your plugins, software and themes. A large chunk of hacking activities is enabled by vulnerabilities in plugins, themes and other website softwares. Be sure to monitor, update your plugins and themes from time to time. This is one of the best website security measures you’ll take. Keep your WordPress installation up to date at all times. Delete all unusable plugins or themes. And desist from using extensions that have not been updated by their owners in say a year. It can cause serious issues for your website / blogs. You can’t afford this when you’re supposed to protect your website from hackers and vulnerabilities. If you realize a plugin you’ve been using has been abandoned by it’s maker, find a replacement for it… There’s no use patronizing plugins that are highly targeted by hackers. Know when to allow users’ uploads on your website. Some attacks are caused by uploads like this especially when you’re yet to set up a robust security system for the website/blog. Log out your account whenever you use any public device to access the internet… Chances are, you never can tell who’s interested in compromising your website or blog, just for curiosity reasons. Be sure to logout of all your accounts, change passwords or wipe the phone memory entirely when ever you lose devices. Don’t ever underestimate the ability of hackers when it comes to your site. These guys can steal your data, users’ data, manipulate your site or even redirect the website visitors to a different website entirely upon hacking into your account. It doesn’t even matter how big or small your website is. A site as big as CNN has been hacked. Same thing with a site that is less than 10 days on the internet. So what matters is that you have to consciously protect your website from hackers. Last year Wordfence analysis showed that under six months, my website recorded over 605,000 mostly automated login attempts from hackers. And you can imagine, we were not even among the top 500,000 websites to start with. So that proves it all. Hackers are on the loose. And some of them are doing it just for the fun of it. You have to put in strict security measures to protect your website from getting hacked. Again as a wrap up, understand hackers are always crawling the web looking for vulnerabilities to gain access to other people’s websites. And anyone can fall a victim so you’ll want to do all it takes to keep your website away from these guys. Take the above steps and stay safe. Be sure to...
