Acidosis: Na wa 4 naija journalists o" I'm very sure that these statements wasn't hers. The biased journalist was only after "benefits" leaving aside other points.

. . .and what if shes even asking for benefits? isn't she working, atleast to some extent. Dame Patience Jonathan is far. . .far better than Most Nigerians in the civil service (Federal, State and Local )who include the names of every member on government's payroll, turning them to ghost workers.

Let us face better issues and move forward.

naptu2: Ah! Rossike! You beat me to it.

What I was going to say was, the task we have, what we have to do, is to make our leaders more accountable to us. It's not really about parliamentary or presidential system. Any of those systems can be corrupted. We need to push our leaders and pressure them to do what we want them to do. This might mean that we have to invent our own unique solutions to our problems, rather than copy other solutions wholesale.

I'm busy at the moment, but I'll give you some ideas, questions and solutions when I'm through.

A problem has been on four decades, yiu have no idea how to solve it, you criticise a solution even before you try it just because it is "foreign". We are already practicing how to be mad this lo g. How long will it then take us to be mad? Give us a solution please.

Can you see the root of our problems? Always looking to copy other peoples' systems. Why can't we device our own system of govt or is it not the same brains we were endowed with as those that deviced the parliamentary system? Today we're practising presidential system imported from the USA. Now you want parliamentary system from Europe. WHEN DO WE START TO EMPLOY OUR OWN BRAINS AND DEVICE OUR OWN SYSTEMS??

Help us suggest one na. Is Japan in Europe? What is wrong if we copy a foreign system. Whatever works I am for it whether it is from the moon. Give us your suggestion please.

naptu2: I remember that I saw people jubilating during the Orkar Coup. They were celebrating the downfall of Babangida. I asked them how are you sure that the next person would not be even worse? They had no answer.

Things are bad right now, no doubt, but how are you sure that a military regime would not be worse? Remember that you have no right to complain under military rule. The dictators come to power and for a year or two, pretend to be patriotic and benevolent rulers, then they show their true colours.

Remember that there's no freedom of information in during military rule. At th e moment we know how much the president receives as salary, we know his food budget, etc, but does anybody know how much Babangida earned as president of Nigeria?

Let's give the paliamentary system a try. I recollect that in Japan they kick out non performing Prime Ministers at short notice. See how Berlusconi was booted out of Italy. No harm in try it. If it means kicking out our PM every week, so be it.

1025:

@vigilante,
all the factors are here and over aged.the problem or setbackwe are having now is that our military has been compromised.
are there things politicians do to bring in military that has not or is not happening in nigeria?
we have rulers whose wealth are not quantifiable. their children are all schooling abroad while they keep promising to better our educational system. we have rulers who encourage youth corpers to die for our country while non of their children is seen anywhere in the picture. we have rulers who walk around with thousands of military men as security while they keep asking us to pray that the security will improve. we have those who preach us to eat cassava bread while at the same time seek N1b for feeding. they tell us how they will cut down on their extravagant expenditures yet in every international conference, they present the highest number of delegates. was it not the other day that okonjo iweala told us that govt expenditures have increase 4 times than before? nigeria has but a compromised/political military system.

I feel you bro. So what is the solution. Aren't we too docile to act?
Politics / Dame Patience Wants Presidents' Wives Roles Included In Constitution by Vigilante: 6:12pm On Jul 20, 2012
Wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience Jonathan, has canvassed for the inclusion of roles of presidents’ wives in the Constitution.

This, according to her would enable them get retirement benefits along with their spouses when they leave office.

Mrs. Jonathan made the plea in a chat with journalists shortly after she was sworn-in as Permanent Secretary in the Bayelsa State Civil Service along with 18 others by Governor Seriake Dickson on Friday afternoon.

She lamented that the office of the First Lady is not currently recognised because it is not in the Constitution, saying its inclusion will “enable the occupier of that position to enjoy benefits of the office like their husbands on retirement.”

She recalled a situation when the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) prevailed on the president to call her to order because the role of the first lady is not in the Constitution.

She tasked the Constitution Amendment Committee to look into the issue with a view to including it in the next constitution.

“We the wives of political office holders, if our names are not in the constitution and our husbands retire with benefits, the Constitution amendment committee should also look into the issue of wives of political appointees.

“We should be included in the Constitution so that we too can retire with benefits. With that we can enjoy our career, “Mrs. Jonathan added.

In his address, Governor Dickson, warned the new permanent secretaries against involvement in politics, saying “we don’t want your involvement in politics; we don’t want to hear that any permanent secretary is involved in the act of politicising our People.”

Its simple, if she has does not have up to 15 years experience in the Nigerian Capital Market, she must go!

Good one. Someone should go to court please. I wonder why we are always shy to go to court.

Politics / Sen. Waku Warns Oritsejafor - 'Stop Damaging Our Image Abroad' by Vigilante: 7:51am On Jul 19, 2012
National Vice Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Senator Joseph Waku, has called on Christians to admonish the National leader of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor to stop making ‘reckless statements that can further divide the country along ethnic and religious lines.’

Waku said this in response to the comments reportedly made by Oritsejafor before the US Congress Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights, chaired by Christopher Smith recently.

The ACF leader reminded Oritsejafor to see himself as a worthy ambassador, who should represent Nigeria well wherever he finds himself, rather than making comments capable of heating up the polity and damaging the nation’s image abroad.

Waku said: “Some of us who are equally Christians need to caution Pastor Oritsejafor to stop hiding under his leadership of CAN to make reckless statements that can further divide the country along ethnic and religious lines as well as damage our image abroad.

“It is because Oritsejafor had been allowed to make these reckless statements at home unchecked, that he is now so emboldened to take his personal agenda and campaign of calumny to the international arena.

“That Oritsejafor could go before a US Congress committee to make a case against Nigerian government’s position on the Boko Haram debacle is unfortunate and condemnable.

“This is because the ultimate consequence of his action will not only affect a section of the country, but the entire nation, its economy and the free movement of its citizens across countries of the world.”

While urging the cleric to apply caution in commenting on sensitive national issues, Waku noted that, “some of us in the Christian fold will help him by replying him before he succeeds in creating a different impression about Christianity to other religions.”

donigspain: Is it not possible for Oshiomhole's earlier assertion on election irregularities to be used against him if the PDP guy decides to take the matter to court in an event of the latter's failure? Oshiomhole's earlier claims is enough evidence to cancel this election whether he later won or not since his remarks show he is inclined not to accept the outcome of the election if it does not go to his favour.
Am just saying... I need more clarification.
PS: I support Oshobaba but I think he was too hasty to make such incriminating assertions.

You mean an election should be cancelled just because a candidate questioned its credibility?

dedeike: Earlier today, we were all attacking and calling GEJ and JEGA names on the strength of Oshiomhole's false allegation that PDP was in the process of rigging the polls. All of a sudden, the story has changed. It is now praise galore for A.C.N and Oshiomhole. HYPOCRITES!

I await patiently to see what Oshiomhole will say about his earlier claims that the election is fraught with irregularities. Will he still maintain this position now that the supposed irregularities has produced a favourable outcome?

We must be very careful in our abuse of constituted authority. What goes around, comes back around.

This administration has always demonstrated its resolve to transform Nigeria in every way. The reforms going on in the power sector, energy sector, ports, public service, etc must also affect the electoral process. GEJ has never hidden his intention to preserve the rule of law and entrench credibility in the electoral process.

His appointment of JEGA says it all. You can't fault JEGA' s performance. From Adamawa to Cross river, kogi to Sokoto. JEGA has lived above board.

Again, unlike OBJ, Jonathan is not one to interfere with the process. He doesn't GIVE A DAMN whether his party or political fortunes is at stake.

That is the president of our dream

Chill. All na strategy.

He was part of the same leading party at one time, and PDP was no good even then. So the last many want to hear is him preaching to them now of what they have always known of PDP.

Can you hear yourself? So if the man has something credible to say, he should not because he was part of the rot. Who validates when a repentant witch should sermonise on the evils of sorcery, you? For your information, he is in alignment with your Buhari so deal with it.
