About the BUT,
Nobody understood what happened inbetween. Why they had to stall the post production indefinitely then. Even I heard there was a time people were looking for Izu Ojukwu.
*sigh*

The one and only PROF!!!!! I hail you oh. Yes, I've been good thanks. How bodi nah?

Very true... as 'regular' audience members we can care less about the BUT... but as filmmakers the BUT is an important concern.

And long time! Welcome back!

Hey Sholay!! Yeah, long time... still not really going to be popping in; just came to post that. IMO it was really, really good... couple of minor 'audio' issues which was surprising considering how good the post-production was.

Having said that there is a BUT and it's a very big BUT...
Are we saying we can't make a fantastically good film unless it takes 5-6yrs? I'm sorry, that's not 'Nollywood'... might as well pack your bags and go home.

Many, many years later; just seen it tonight at the European Premier.
All I can say is "Wow". This film has blown most Nigerian films past, present and future out of the park. Nuff said!

You brave oh! But the title must be a typo... no such thing as a 4,000km jump. 4,000ft is more what this low-altitude jump looks like. Still a lot of fun; try bungeeing for your next adrenaline rush.

Very, very beautiful film! As CNARIO said the production design is superb and the cinematography is lovely. However, there were issues with the audio in some parts and that's the only let down.

Still, brilliant work. Keep it up. Well done to all involved.

One thing I have realised in Nollywood movies is the very poor scripts, you can always predict what will happen next and how it will end. You don't always need huge budget to make a nice movie. Anyone that has seen that British movie called Locke will testify to this. That movie has less than 7 actors in it but was thrilling and full of suspense throughout. That movie won lots of awards worldwide. You watch Nollywood movies and it's always about love, jealousy, evil and mother-inlaws and revenge.

You're so right. 'Locke' was a low budget film with pretty much just one actor seen on screen and the others as 'voices'. Have you seen the film 'Buried'?... Just one man buried alive in a coffin... brilliantly heart-pounding.

Thanks a lot bro.....i appreciate, I'm actually thinking of going for a 70-200mm lens later on! What do u think?

Depends, what sort of photography are you interested in and focusing on? That is a highly telephoto lens on a 7D... an equivalent look of 112-320mm so a wider telephoto would probably be more useful... still depends what sort of photography you'll be doing.

Thanks a lot guys. I settled for Canon EoS 7D eventually with a lens of 18-135mm. It was really nice.

Do u know more about the canon 7d. You can give me heads up based on ur experience. Thanks

The 7D is a good camera and it was a wise choice to go with the zoom lens for starters as you have a much wider focal range. One of the commenters mentioned getting a flash - you probably will need one as 'stock' zooms are not fast. As time goes on you can look at getting a 50mm f1.8 or preferably the f1.4 for low-light shooting. 50mm on a 7D which has a crop factor of 1.6 is 'sort of' like using an 85mm on a 'full-frame' camera such as the Canon 5D versions and is considered a very good 'portrait' lens.
Best of luck with everything.

Just a small misconception to correct so that newbies don't pick up the wrong info and run with it. DOF and 'Bokeh' are actually two very, very different things.
I'll try to say what they are in as simple a manner as possible.

DOF - Depth Of Field - This is actually the 'amount' of an image that is in focus; the 'distance' from your camera that is in focus - hence 'depth'.
Bokeh - Which is from the Japanese word blur or haze: 'boke' also from the Japanese word for 'blur-quality' - note 'quality' being the key word. It simply is the 'quality' of the out of focus part of an image when using a lens at the widest aperture.

Basically, different lenses produce a different looking 'bokeh'. For example a lens with 5 blades will produce a less round bokeh than a lens that has 9 blades since the circle made by the 5 blades will be less of a circular shape.
Google photos of these lenses - The very old but very popular version Canon 50mm f1.8 has 5 blades and the bokeh looked more like a 'pentagon' than a 'circle'. The much more expensive Canon f1.4 has 8 blades and of course much better 'bokeh' than the f1.8.

Here's a couple of examples of 'bokeh' from my old photography blog - notice the blurriness of the background and the shape of the lights/highlights... these were with the old Canon f1.8

@op if you talking about dof or Burke as it is called in photography then it has to do with your lens or a simple trick u make ur image far from your background so the background will be blur but if can use ur lens and yes it takes practice and reading up... villageboi where av u bin? bin a while...

Hi Jaydee, how are you? Yes it has been a while... it's been very busy this side. Hope all is well with you?

BoyCoyToy:
I think it's called depth of field
Ok DOF is achieved with EVERY camera; what most people, especially novices, tend to mean is 'how to get a SHALLOW' Depth Of Field. Much easier to get a 'shallow' DOF if you have a large sensor and a fast lens (you can also get a shallow DOF with a telephoto lens - but you'll have to understand the relationship between distances, apertures and so on...) Would be a good idea to 'Google' Depth Of Field and do a bit of reading on the topic.
By the way what 'exact' equipment are you using for the shoot or planning to use?

Here is a short video crash-course on DOF you should find to be useful.

@ BoyCoyToy... having said you're a novice I will ask what 'exactly' do you mean by 'blurred' images? A few things come to my mind but I have a feeling you're using the wrong terminology... but I will also consider that you do actually want blurred images.
The reason I'm asking is because the reality is no-one wants to watch a video that is 'blurred' it will actually be painful to the eyes of your audience... maybe there is an 'effect' you would like to reproduce? Understand I'm just guessing here and could be far off what you really mean.

Since you're talking about 'moving images' the assumption is you'll be shooting at 25 or 24 fps for TV or cinema... for now your best bet probably would be to film 'normally' and do the 'blur' in post... again like Lovetinz & Dotkoded I'm guessing you're not technical or have a full understanding of the relationship between shutter speed, aperture and even iso.
Both commenters above mentioned two different ways and things you can do - a slow shutter speed will 'blur' your image but as mentioned before not watchable for a long time depending on how blurred it is. And a large aperture such as f1.2, 1.4, 1.8 (depending on distance to subject) will give a very small plane of focus and everything else will be 'blurry' or 'out of focus'. Additionally, do you mean like in a scene with 2 people and the one talking is sharp and the other person blurry then it switches when the other person is talking (that's called pulling focus).
Honestly not sure what you mean but if you really do mean having a video that is just blurry and not just for a short effect I would advise against it.

I'll add my old showreel here and if there is any shot that is even close to what you mean do say which one and I'll explain better how to do it. Or can you find and post any video that has exactly what you want to do?

Orikinla:
Top 10 Films Waiting To Be Made in Nigerian Film Industry

A wonderful list of films we'd love to see made... BUT I have to agree with Shockwave91 & DaVinChiSam

shockwave91:
Most of the potential films here will be period movies & unfortunately that is something nollywood just can't make.
DaVinChiSam:

Me would say they should hang on until they can do things right

It would be another sad day for any of these to be made poorly. They can and should be made but probably as collaborative efforts with other nations... nothing wrong in doing that if it works. After-all look at the recent offerings from other African nations.
(While none of the films below is an 'epic'; they show good things can come out of collaborating with the right people... our 'producers' need to start think about that a bit more)

Eye Of The Storm
Burkina Faso & Cameroon (in collabo with France)
Director: Sekou Traoré
Can't get the trailer but here is an 'extract'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIrGrL_UGkI

Things Of An Aimless Wanderer
Rwanda (in collabo with UK)
Director: Kivu Ruhorahoza

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWGEM3mS63A

The Cursed Ones
Ghana (in collabo with UK)
Director: Nana Obiri Yeboah

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viRcz7XOi4I

And since 'HOPE' played at the same festival here I'm adding it even though it was made by France... I believe it is relevant to add since it's a 'story' that easily could be Nigerian.
"On the back of a truck deep in the Sahara desert, a young Nigerian woman and a Cameroonian man attempt a desperate journey to Europe. When title character Hope is singled out by the mostly male fellow travellers – despite her masculine disguise – she’s taken into the desert and raped by a group of soldiers. Only Leonard feels sympathy, and the two form an unlikely bond. In a fiercely hostile world where safety requires staying with one’s own people, they try to find their way together, and to find love amidst the chaos."

Hope

Hey man,

Please can you recommend a good flash and lense for EOS 1200D to me?
Price/quality optimum-wise

thanks.

You can search YONGNUO flashes; they practically are direct copies of Canon flashes but are far, far cheaper to buy and pretty much just as good... and I know that for a fact because I have 3 of them. Can't help with prices; you'll have to try eBay and Amazon I guess.
I think their 560 model is now up to version 5 or so... you must check COMPATIBILITY with your camera.
Can't really give advice on lenses since I don't know what you are doing but you can't go wrong with a zoom and a prime like the 50mm f1.4 or the cheaper 50mm f1.8 for starters.

Ok that 'Nigerian' accent is quite frankly terrible... no argument there.

But why are we complaining when we're too blind & dumb to see just how incredible ridiculous WE likewise sound when we keep on forcing-guy some useless 'yankee' accent borrowed from some flea-market? Nigerian general public take note... Nigerian so-called 'A-listers' & wannabes take even bigger note. As your own natural accent dey shame you keep on squealing that ear-damaging crap in the name of being 'yankee'fied! Na only una fellow inferiority-complex brethrens una fit impress with that strange stuff. And that is the number one reason why Nigerian films do not regularly make an impression on the world stage! Ok my opinion,

The only thing I would give a pass mark is sound. Although the bullet shot was wack.
You droped a lut into ur footage does not mean u have graded. Skintones were literally red.
Ur Monologue should reveal what motivates you to be a killler. Why you love the job of killing.
U used the bmpc 4k you should have at least stop down if u don't have nd's, its 12 stops can not capture naked sunlight and give a beautiful picture.
Your costume too formal seems like a comic wanna be.

Ur story not so deep.

Yes the skintones are red - that could be the 'look' they were going for... can never say for sure if they only dropped a LUT without further tweaking any of it. However, I get what you are saying - the grade on the 'still photo' at the end is far more in tune with human skintones.

The exposure in this short is completely acceptable. One small part on the car (around a headlight) is all that is blown-out (easy to mask and fix in Resolve). Apart from that it's pretty spot on. Who knows if they shot ETTR to reduce noise levels?!

Of course the 'story' isn't deep - it's an excerpt. Almost the same as a 'test' shot. In fact I just read what they wrote again and they DID say TEST SHOOT. It could be a stupid cat video for all we care - a test shoot does not need a story... but its nice when there is one.

One of the reasons I like this is they have and are developing skills - PERIOD! Compare 'the look' of this to any of the BIG Nollywood films shot on Arri and Red that look like home-videos and this is far, far better; definitely more 'cinematic' looking - no argument there.

Is this test perfect? Of course not... and there is no reason for it to be - its a 'test. I know we can sometimes tend to rubbish our own but truly this is a 'team' of people to be on the look out for in the future. Go and watch some of the first shorts from BIG Hollywood director names and then you'll have something to laugh about.

By the way I'm guessing you're a filmmaker or editor too? Do hang around this 'section' more often.

cool. But what i meant is that dose stunts & explosions were not created digitally. they were shot first on location then enhanced digitally. Only few blockbuster movies do that.

And that furiosa's arm stuff. Isn't that standard m.o 4 effects like dat?

Yeah the stunts & explosions were all practical and done in-camera.
It makes the most sense to green screen the arm; especially one as complex as this. For some easier ones they might just digitally paint it out.

Pretty much my fav film of the year so far.

And it's also amazing how all the night scenes were shot daytime overexposed... got to practice & learn that myself.
