A suicide bomber was blown up on Saturday while lurking in the bush in a bid to attack a student gathering at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).

Ibrahim Mallam Abdulkadir, spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the north-east, said it was only the bomber that died in the attempted attack.

He said the explosive on the bomber went off while he was waiting “for the right opportunity to detonate the bomb among students gathering.”

“Today, May 20, at some minutes past 10 am, one male adult suicide bomber hid in the bush within university community surrounding, supposedly trying to gain access into university where students are gathering,” the statement read.

“Unfortunately for him the IED exploded and killed him. No casualty was recorded. The corpse was deposited at Borno specialist hospital.”

A female hostel in the university was nearly attacked on Thursday by two suicide bombers. Three security operatives were wounded in that attack.

Of late, the university has become a target of suicide bomb attacks by the sect, having hit the institution earlier in the week.

Its a new Legislative day in the Nigerian Senate. Senate President Bukola Saraki took the official prayer and led the Senate into today's proceedings. Senator Ajayi Boroffice moved for the approval of votes and proceedings of Thursday, 11th May, 2017. Senator George Sekibo seconded.

*POINT OF ORDER*
1. Senator Sekibo raised a petition on the explosion of pipeline in his senetorial district, he implores the Senate to look into it.
2. Senator Abaribe raised 2 Petitions on:
i) whereabout of a police officer on duty.
ii) lapses in Independent National Electoral Commission's Registration of voters in South East & South South
3. Senator Na'Allah cited order 43 and thanked the Senators for budget passage, but states that no report for budget has been received from agencies. He wants a motion on the issue. Senate President Bukola Saraki said it's a serious one and we need to keep up the fight against corruption. He agreed to the Motion to be raised by Senator Bala Na'Allah.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu asked if they are intending to bring up a different bill for other commissions. Senator Ogba said only the Nigerian Football Federation is independent because of the Federation International of Football association's approach of non-government interference.

Senator Obinna Ogba asked for more time for consultation and Senate President Bukola Saraki said the Bill should be stepped down to another Legislative day.

a) Petition from Mr. Ghali Mustapha against the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) for Alleged Wrongful Dismissal from the Force; Senate commended the Nigerian Police Force for the reinstatement of dismissed officer.

b) Petition from Mr. Mohammed Sani Lapai against the Securities and Exchange Commission for Alleged Unlawful Disengagement from the Service of the Commission; Senate resolved to sustain the decision to terminate the appointment as due process was followed.

c) Petition from Captain James Pere Femowei (Rtd) against the Nigerian Army for Alleged Non-Inclusion in Military Pension by the Army. Senate resolved that the request of the petitioner should not be granted.

d) Petition from Mr. Aniekan Umoh against Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) over his Unlawful Disengagement from the Service of the Company. Senate sustained the disengagement because of the initial contract agreement.

1. Outright Omission of Eastern Corridor Rail Line in the request for approval of Federal Government 2016-2018 External Borrowing (Rolling Plan) by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe
Senator Gbenga Ashafa said that we should not throw away the baby with the bath water and not suspend the loan. Senate resolved that the Transport Minister should come before the appropriate Senate Committee to explain the reasons for the exclusion of the Eastern Corridor of Nigeria's Rail Line from the proposed loan from China Exim bank.

The pop star is nominated for seven awards at the 2017 BET Awards, the network told The Associated Press on Monday. The show will take place June 25 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Bruno Mars follows Beyonce with five nominations.

Beyonce and Solange — who has four nominations — will go head-to-head for best female R&B/pop artist, along with Rihanna, Mary J. Blige and Kehlani. Beyonce’s other nominations include album of the year for “Lemonade,” the viewer’s choice award and video director of the year. The Jim Nwobodo led Anambra election committee met with the the stakeholders of Anambra APC yesterday at the Finotel Hotel Awka.

The meeting was a strategic one where APC stakeholders brainstormed on the November 18 governorship election in the state and the best way the party will select the candidate who will defeat the incumbent.

The state chairman, Barr Emeka Ibe who presided over the meeting announced to the cheering of the stakeholders that the party has registered about 1.2 million members in the state as at April 2017.

The chairman of the committee Chief Jim Nwobodo promised all the aspirants that the committee will be fair to all in the process of selecting the candidate for the party.

The leader of the party in the state, Dr Chris Ngige, assured the Stakeholders that APC will surmount all issues and go into the election as one family.

About 8 out of 12 aspirants who have indicated interest to vie for guber under APC attended the stakeholders meeting. They are;
