Hi guys... I want to appreciate Whyna and also congratulate her on her hard earned success in a foreign land. I've been following this tread since the very first day she started and I don't think I've skipped a page, which is rare for me. So yeah, to Whyna and everyone that has kept this place rocking and bustling... Good job, y'all deserve a bottle of Heineken.
That said... I would have love to tag some post which are as much as discouraging, but also helps. However, I decide to push this out for all and sundry. As much as someone might condemn the move to Viet, I believe I'll condemn a move to Canada, UK and the United States than I will to Viet, Thai, Indo...
Thing is, if we all go to CA, US, UK, EUROPE, we all can't make it. Our luck work differently. It took my sister's over 35 years in London before she could build her first standard house in Nigeria. I have a friend in Viet, who had only spend 2 years and has a house already in am expensive place in fact. I have another friend in Viet, who's without a degree, he managed his way into starting a school and he's good - although he'll never advice you to take that step. So, apparently, it's an individual journey.
Moreover, when you're panning out a journey as this with all this negatives in mind, the best thing you do is go online, it's a global village, and find solutions to this. In this year alone, I've gotten messages, from expat group member who think I'm in the country and how well I speak and relate with them all -they've offered me job and even invite me to coffee... I just tell em I'm not back in the country.
And guess what... Some of us are not even planning to teach as the main hustle. One thing I'll always tell my friends of friends is that, don't run from Nigeria because you're poor. Only run when you have the right skills, mindset, and you've enjoyed this country as much.
If you take your time to research, you'll see that there's more to an emerging economy than teaching. Have a long term plan if you're planning on staying there a while. Map of those plan.
I do not believe for one that the color of my skin will deny me the right job. I've black ghanians, Cameroons who I met online and they live very fine in Viet.
To kill this off once and for all... Viet is more preferable for some of us than the other. For instance, if you're a programmer and you majority work from home for international bodies. Low-cost economies are great... With #45k a month, you can have a nice house Feed off less than 50k a month... And you can manage a job for offline purpose, while you grow a large business on the side.
Get yourself a skill, push in when you get there... Connect as much as you can... Shake hands, change the narratives... YOU CAN!
Another thing is, the last thing we want here is someone telling us that this is a RISK. OF COURSE WE KNOW, and that's life when you decide to dive in a ocean, YOU EITHER SWIM OR DROWN - your choice.
In the mean time guys, I'm enjoying the best of Nigeria till VIET hugs me with a green card. Let's continue to fill ourselves with positivity... Be GREAT! |

kevwemanuel: Hello whyna,
Thanks for the update, and congratulations on making some good cash this month. I pray this tempo improves even more for you.
I'd like you to throw more light on the cost of the following in Vietnam: 1) Average annual cost of health care 2) Average annual cost of quality primary education 3) Average annual cost of quality secondary education
This may help those who will like to raise a family in Vietnam to make an informed decision.
Thanks. Hi... I did a few research in this a while ago. While some schools are pretty expensive, there are mekunu others. However before you proceed, I'll advice that you contract the schools themselves. Kindly find the attached. I don't know much about health care, but from shine sources, na just like naija... Get yourself a doctor and use her often. Wherever you decide to love, you can always have your go to doc! |

The VT government are not going to open the border anytime soon...maybe after there's a covid vaccine sha. The closed border means less teachers, more jobs. Milk the opportunity ma'am.
Stay safe and I'm rooting for you. True, but there are many other factors to consider. Twill be a year since the borders were closed! Only few economies can sustain that... |

I have never been there before, so I. may not be right. You can give a better and right opinion on that. 8M VND is the rent for a 2 bedroom... Monthly rent! 8M VND is nothing, use currency converter. Just clarifying... 8M VND shouldn't be your parameter! Stay safe mate... |

WhyNa: It's looking like borders will remain closed till September here so I'd advise anyone going for police report and medical report to hold on as their validity is just 3 months.
You can go ahead and authenticate your documents if the ministries and embassy is open If you're suggesting that borders will be closed till September, then it's better to hold on with everything because apparently, that's what we are going there to authenticate. And then it because obsolete after three months. We better just chill! |

If you can come in with student visa, you could get part time jobs.
The major issue is how to come in, how to enter Vietnam. When you enter Vietnam and you have student visa some schools might give you part time teaching position but your pay will be small. The tuition fee is fair, if you think you need the certificate, it's great... But do your findings.... Per year in most schools, you'll be paying between $1000 to $2500 for bachelor's degree.... But as a head start, they allow you pay in instalments, which they do in other schools abroad too.
So approximately, in 3 years, you'll have paid nothing less than $3k to $7k... Obviously, you'll be working. So, it's a fair bargain! |

Companies are scared to sponsor Nigerians because of the bad things Nigeria get into. Any company that sponsored a Nigeria and the person gets into an illegal act, such company is closed down and fined serious money to pay and such company can never sponsor anybody again to come to Vietnam. WhyNa: Some more updates.....
Internet is free here. Your room comes with internet. When you're in a public place, say a gym or restaurant, you can request for wifi password. Some write it and paste on the wall. I no longer download movies, I just watch online and there's no interuption.
I've said it before that things are cheap here. Was going to upload some pictures with prices but some people deem it fit to ban me anyhow ontop something I'm not being paid for. One year gym subsription is as low as 28k naira. A very big fish, those very big ones they sell specially in lagos is just about 700 naira here. 10 big eggs is about 300 naira. Things are sold per kg here. Remember to price Lagos style. If the price be like say e too much, then it's too much. Walk away to the next store and sure enough it would be cheaper. There are the honest ones who tell you straight up the price. Some would try to rip you off especially those mamas.
Things are cheaper in the market than the supermarket so try to buy things from the market. Some things are cheaper in the supermarket plus there's no language barrier and prices are fixed and you have a variety of options.
Ask ask ask for help when you are in malls and need to buy a product but don't know the section or can't read the labels. Or when you need to find out something. Some of them speak little English. I always start with "Do you speak English" They are always willing to help. If you don't find one who can speak English, use google tranlate. They will willingly type back and assist you
Their food is really nice. Never say never, try it out and you'll find out that 95% of the time, you'll enjoy it. You could spend a month trying out different types of food here. At least for the next one week after you arrive here, you'll be eating out so get ready to try new dishes and use chopsticks. I got the hang of it on the 3rd day. Now I have one fork and 4 chopsticks
There are lots of street food sellers here and they are cheaper and tastier too. there's also KFC and the likes if you don't want to go local
Pork is their main protein here but there's also beef which is a little expensive. But there's fish which I already told you guys is cheap and there's chicken.
Fruiits are in abundance here and different types too. I've counted up to 10 and they don't seem to be seasonal. They also have lots of vegetables here.
Someone asked if Hanoi is developed. Yes Hanoi is developed. It's the Capital city. So is Ho Chi Minh, Da nang (This is the beach city), Hai Phong, Lao Cai. Ha long, These are the ones I can say for now.
Houses come fully furnished here too. The degree of the furnishing sometimes determine how expensive. Like does it have a washing machin, TV, rice cooker, pots and plates, etc.
If you're the type that doesn't eat sticky rice, you might have a little problem here as that's the way their rice is. Still looking for the ones they said they export to Naija. The one I currently use isn't too bad. It just needs to be cooked on low heaat with little water.
Just like their rice, their noodle takes just 1 or 2 minutes to cook if not, akamu straight up! Like you'll stand there and rice don done. Not the Naija one you cook forever.
Their detergent/liquid soap is foamy. Thank God I used some to wash my undies and socks before using it in the washing machine. I for don resemble Mr. Bean with lots of foam coming out of the washing machine and me looking confused
SN: Learning to ride a bike is kinda difficult. I'm finding it hard keeping my balance. I tend to tilt to one side and feel like the bike is about to fall. Any ideas/advice?
Edit: My bike is automatic Internet is free? Please, ma'am... I'll like to reach out to you on personal ground... Please, thanks. |

JimD: Over the next 6 months, I want to do an experiment to work on something - a new challenge. I reverse-engineered the Skyscraper strategy by Brian Dean (Brian Dean is one of the top SEO brains in the world). I'm not going to reveal my strategy as yet. But you can read about Brian Dean's skyscraper strategy online. But I'll show you what I do, so you can follow along.
Here's what I am working with:
- A 10 months old Fiverr account with only 1 real review. The other reviews are shit reviews (bought). I didn't get any ROI though. Waste of money. - I have created the first gig. The reviews are obsolete so in short this Fiverr account really has nothing going for it. - It's a Nigerian account in the over-flooded writing niche. So I literally put the odds against me.
I am not going to show the account name. Only new order screenshots as they come in. But I'll tell you what I have been up to everyday. Stay tuned.
PS: I have a FREE PDF to teach you the a,b,c of making up to $1k monthly from Fiverr (if you can put in the work). Just send me a message if you want it.
PSS: Of course, 7 figures is in Nigerian currency Oracu247@gmail.com PLEASE |

EduCanadaAgent: Yes, International student bringing their spouse or partner with them to Canada, may be eligible for an open work permit that will allow them to work on or off campus full-time while she is studying. The spouse/partner will not require a job offer to apply, and his/her permit will be valid for the same period as her study permit. In some cases, the spouse or common-law partner will need a medical exam and must not be inadmissible under Canada’s immigration law . The Canadian visa offices abroad will process spouse/partner work permit applications at the same time as study permit applications. In this case, they will need to include the additional fee for the work permit and complete the work permit application for their spouse/partner, available from the website of the consulate.
See link for the criteria; https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/work/help-your-spouse-common-law-partner-work-canada.html
Note: International students applying to study in Canada MUST be honest and truthful with all the information provided on their application. Adding a spouse just to acquire a work permit is not worth having their application refused on grounds of misrepresentation or been ban from entering Canada in the future
Good Luck!! EON I left you a maïl... Kindly reply |

EduCanadaAgent: Unfortunately, we do not process work visas. However, spouse of an international student can acquire a work visa as long as they meet the eligibility requirement. Our office deals with educational recruitment for individuals or students with intent to study in Canada.
International students with valid study permit may work in Canada during summer or school break if they are authorized by Immigration Canada
Good Luck!! EON Ok... How about if my spouse is going for her masters. Will I be given work permit for the period she'll be studying? If yes, what are the criteria |
