Crime › Man Who Defiled 2-yr-old Says ‘I Don’t Even Understand What Is Happening’ by vizboy(op): 2:49pm On Nov 04, 2013 |
A 34-year-old driver, Oyewale Ojo, has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for having carnal knowledge of a two-year-old daughter of his colleague and neighbour. The man, who lives at Ojoo area of Ibadan, was caught hiding behind the door in the room of Mr and Mrs Toki, parents of the girl, with the baby (name withheld) spread on the bed and her private part smeared with semen. The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation at that State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, where he was transferred to from Ojoo police station in which the case was initially reported. According to the mother of the baby, Madam Ajarat Toki, a herbal concoction seller at Iwo Road motor park at Ojoo, the little girl was with her father at home on Monday, October 21, while she was doing her business within the park. “I had to take her home that day because of an impending rain. My husband later came back to say the girl was asleep at home, and that he had asked a neighbour to keep an eye on her while he went to buy the girl something to eat. “The suspect even came to me at the motor park and was there when my husband was telling me about our daughter. On getting home, I entered through the back door and as I opened the door of our room, I met my girl with her thighs open on the bed, staring at something behind the door. On checking what might have attracted her so much, I was shocked to find Ojo cowering behind the door. “When I asked him what he was doing in our room, he said he wanted to give me a video disc I asked for earlier. My daughter started vomiting and when I went to look at her, I saw that he had ejaculated around her private part. It was my noise that woke our neighbours. When we got to the hospital to confirm her medical status, the report indicated that the little girl had indeed been defiled.” The victim’s father, Tomiwa Toki,(41), a taxi driver told reporters that he was mad at what happened because he cherished his daughter specially, as she is the only female among his children. “The man is not a friend of mine, though we operate at the same motor park at Ojoo, so I was wondering why he should enter my house. I immediately called the police and he was arrested,” the distraught father said. It was learnt that the suspect also attempted to escape with handcuffs at Ojoo Division and that it took some efforts by the police and some members of the public to arrest him as he ran with all his might. He was immediately transferred to State CID, Iyaganku. In an interview, Ojo, who said he was married to two wives and has four children, was incoherent when he was asked to confirm or deny the allegation against him. At first, he claimed to have gone to the Toki’s house to give the man a disc which she earlier asked for. “When I got there, l met the girl crying and I carried her and put on the T.V for her so that she could watch it,” he said. Ojo later confessed to have defiled the girl and claimed that he did not know what led him to it. He later blamed it on devil, saying “I don’t even understand how it happened.” When asked whether he was under the influence of drug, or marijuana, Ojo replied in the negative, saying that he only smoked jedi (weed which is believed to cure pile and is usually wrapped and smoked like a cigarette). Reacting to the incident, The Acting Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Assistant Superintendent of Police Ignatius Inyang expressed dismay at the rate at which defilement and rape cases keep increasing within the society, adding that the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of investigations. Politics › Boko Haram: Shettima Orders The Demolition Of Fed Govt Renovated Classrooms by vizboy(op): 9:52am On Nov 02, 2013 |
Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima on Friday, ordered the demolition of some classrooms which were razed by the outlawed Boko Haram sect at the peak of the insurgency but later re-built by the federal government for not meeting known standard. ? The governor gave this order during the launch of the “free exercise books” project for primary and secondary schools in the state, which was flagged of at both Abbaganaram Primary School and Junior Secondary School Abbaganaram, both destroyed by the sect at the peak of the crisis but renovated by the federal government. Shettima, who took time out to inspect the renovated classroom blocks at the two schools, said the job was done shabbily and failed the minimum standard, insisting that the structure remains unacceptable to the people of the state and the government. He said: “Honestly, those who were given the contract for renovation of these classroom blocks by the Federal Government did a shabby job, and we will not allow our students to continue using such structure, because apart from not being conducive for learning, the structure have no ventilation.” ?”We will release money immediately to demolish and reconstructed new classroom blocks in this school fitted with security lights, fans and other facilities that will make the students comfortable when learning”. Shettima promised.? The governor said though the federal government believed it has assisted Borno with the N100 million spent on the renovation of the razed schools, but “with this shabby work they have actually done nothing.” The governor who was told by the head teacher of the school that the renovated classroom was weak and may fall on surrounding building wreaking havoc, added that: “What they call assistance has only compounded the problem of the school from the look of things,” ?Shettima, who was impressed by the high turn out of pupils, directed the Rector of Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri, Dr. Babagana Umara to supply the school with 2000 furniture which were made by out the institution.? The governor said with the new lease of life in the state especially the capital Maiduguri, a lot need to be done to make schools what it should be, insisting that if education is gotten right and children of school-age are made to attend, “the problem of insecurity is half solved.” He said the state was willing to spend all that is required to revamp the educational sector, promising that students would be given free uniforms, textbooks and exercise books and given a lunch. Shettima said the state government will go a step further in Northern Borno where school attendance was at all time low by giving parents money as incentive to sending their wards to school. source: www.informng.com/boko-haram-shettima-orders-the-demolition-of-fed-govt-renovated-classrooms/ |

Politics › APC Leaders, Rebel Govs’ Meeting Rattles PDP by vizboy(op): 10:02am On Oct 31, 2013 |
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party was rattled by the meeting of the leadership of the All Progressive Congress and some of the aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party in Sokoto, Sokoto State on Tuesday. The APC leaders, who were in Sokoto for the inauguration of the Sokoto State University , where the meeting was held, were a former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Members of the New PDP who were in attendance were the governor of the state, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko; Governors Rabiu Kwankwanso (Kano); Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); and Sule Lamido (Jigawa). Three of the aggrieved governors, Aliyu Babangida (Niger), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) and Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), were absent at the event. However, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mallam Aminu Tambuwal, was at the event, where no Federal Government official was present. Investigations by our correspondent showed that the meeting of the APC leaders with the rebel governors was a topic for discussion among members of the National Working Committee of the PDP on Wednesday. A member of the committee, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said it was almost certain that the rebel governors were out of the ruling party. He said the NWC of the party was surprised that the rebel governors were no longer hiding their disdain for the party. He said though the issue was not on the agenda of the Wednesday’s meeting, the matter was discussed informally among the NWC members. The source said, “Though the gathering was about opening of a university, why was the event dominated by those who are against us? “We have been hearing that these governors are planning to defect to the APC. Maybe that was why they invited the leaders of the party and used the opportunity to concretise their discussions. We are watching.” Reacting to the issue, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Ibrahim Jalo, told our correspondent that the party believed that the gathering had no political undertone. Jalo said the party believed what Wamakko said, which was that the event was for the inauguration of the state university. He said, “The event was a mere gathering. We also believe that it was, according to the governor, meant to open the state university as stated by the governor. “Apart from that, we believe that these people are free to meet and discuss as guaranteed by the Constitution. The Constitution guarantees freedom of association.” However, the party said it had directed party leaders in zones, states, local government areas and wards to establish disciplinary committees in accordance with its constitution. A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, said the action was in tandem with the “focused determination of the national leadership of the PDP to ensure discipline and loyalty at all levels.” source: www.informng.com/apc-leaders-rebel-govs-meeting-rattles-pdp/ |

Politics › Bayelsa Demolishes Governor Dickson’s House by vizboy(op): 7:10am On Oct 31, 2013*. Modified: 12:25pm On Oct 31, 2013 |
Bayelsa State Government on Wednesday demolished a one-storey private building owned by Governor Seriake Dickson because it obstructed the Right-of-Way as well as intruding on the state Capital City Master Plan. .
The demolished building, which had been marked by the Capital City Development Authority on June 28, 2012, was situated along the Opolo/AIT Road, Yenagoa, the state capital.
The demolition, which began about 12.48 pm, was supervised by the Deputy Governor John Jonah; Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Lawrence Ehwrudjakpor; Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Markson Fefegha; Commissioner for State Capital City Development; and Mr. Konugha Zuwa.
Other structures affected by the demolition exercise included that of the Director General of the State Agency for the Control of AIDS, Dr. Temple Iluma.
Jonah told journalists that the location of the Governor’s house obstructed the Right-of-Way, hence there would be no compensation for him.
He said, “In line with the development control of the CCDA and urban renewal of the state, the government awarded contract for the dualisation of the road. Anyone who has built structures on the Right-of-Way should expect such buildings to be demolished.
“We have been talking about the master plan as well as some areas where we have to carry out urban renewal. For the master plan, we expect every builder to go and get clearance before he or she starts to build to see the extent that he can go outside the road.
“One of the houses we have found to have interfered with the plan of Yenagoa is this one-storey structure belonging to the Governor. On the advice of the CCDA that is concerned with development control of the state, the house was marked since last year for demolition. And you know we have awarded contract for the dualisation of the Opolo Road.”
However, some Yenagoa residents on Wednesday said the exercise was politically-motivated, notwithstanding that the governor’s house was affected.
The residents, who claimed that only a section of Dickson’s building was demolished, said the exercise was a strategy to enable the government to demolish buildings of perceived opponents without causing public outrage.
None of the complaining residents however agreed to be quoted.
In his comment, Ehwrudjakpor said the demolition had been on for some time and listed the affected areas to include Ovom, Igbogene, Imgbi, Diete_Spiff and Eradiri road expansion. http://www.punchng.com/news/right-of-way-bayelsa-demolishes-dicksons-private-home/www.informng.com/bayelsa-demolishes-gov-dicksons-house/ |

Politics › Ngige’s Sister Debarred In US Over Alleged Money Laundering by vizboy(op): 6:25pm On Oct 30, 2013 |
• As Awka diocese absolves APC candidate of assault Shola Oyeyipo A certain Mrs. Maryrose Ozoemena Nwadike, said to be a younger sister to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Chris Ngige, in the Anambra State governorship election was said to have been debarred from practicing law in Maryland, the United States for allegedly using her bank account to launder money for one of her elder brothers, presumed to be Chris. Nwadike was consequently debarred after a Maryland Attorney Grievance Commission was said to have found her guilty for using her escrow account to launder vast sums of money for the said brother and for lying to investigators and the judge when questioned about it. In the highlight of the commission’s decision, it was stated that the “Respondent claimed that $349,975 wired into her Attorney Trust Account on August 2005 came from (unspecified) personal injury cases and form attorney’s fees and reimbursed expenses in the Dr Ngige Election Tribunal Case(s) in Nigeria.” The documents of the long trial and investigation, outlined a vast array of infringements and “four year pattern of commingling funds which the Respondent claimed she used in paying for her personal expenses as intentional misappropriation.” A rather shocking part of the revelation was an alleged disbursement of a staggering sum of $349,975 for bringing a homeless American to delay Ngige’s stay in office. All this was said to have happened at the time the APC candidate was busy selling himself off as the messiah opposed to looting of the state’s treasury by the godfathers and that he was suffering persecution for his principled stand. In a detailed rendering of the sleaze that Ngige allegedly orchestrated in office through his sister in the US, one of the documents obtained from the courts in Maryland, a copy of which was obtained by THISDAY stated thus: “Respondent produced only copies of deposit slips and customer receipts from 21 March 2003 through 7 June 2006, monthly bank statements from 1 August 2003 through 31 May 2006, and disbursed checks from 25 April 2003 through 22 May 2006 related to the trust account. Respondent never produced any requested billing statements, ledger cards, or accounting of funds that she received, maintained, and disbursed from her trust account during this period. “Respondent claimed to have received several deposits, totaling $110,493, in her attorney trust account slated to be transferred to the Ngige campaign, but she failed to provide an accounting reflecting these deposits. The record shows that, on 29 August 2005, she deposited a $120,000 personal check for which Judge Dugan found she offered again no logical or coherent accounting. “Respondent also transferred $50,000 into her attorney trust account in September 2005, funds which she claimed belonged to Ngige. From 2002 to 2006, Respondent disbursed from the account a total of $134,312.85 prior to making deposits necessary to fund those disbursements. When asked by Bar Counsel to explain several specific instances of this practice, Respondent replied to each inquiry that each premature disbursement was due to an “administrative glitch.” A witness, Anthony Isama, testified that three suspect debits on Respondent’s trust account paid to American Express, totaling $7,820, and one check issued from the account to “MBNA,” for $35,600, were payments for credit card purchases Respondent made for Ngige’s wife. Meanwhile, a further $50,000 cash withdrawal Respondent made from her account on December 4, 2002 was never explained. In addition, Respondent’s refusal even to identify forthrightly Christopher Ngige as her brother was evasive, at best. Respondent stated disingenuously that Ngige merely was “somebody’s name.” Even though Ngige was not a client of the Respondents, she asserted an attorney-client privilege and refused to explain her relationship to him. When Isama testified that Ngige is Respondent’s brother, Judge Dugan asked Respondent why she had engaged in such “subterfuge.” Respondent kept mute. However, there are speculations that Ngige might be extradited to the US to answer questions arising from the case. Meanwhile, the Awka Catholic Diocese, Anambra State has denied that Ngige slapped one of the Revered fathers in the diocese during the funeral ceremony of the mother of Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor, the dioceses’ main Bishop of Awka. The event which allegedly took place at Nanka, Orumba North council area of the state, the diocese said was a tissue of lies. The chancellor of the Catholic Diocese, Rev, Dr. Chudi Akaenyi, said at a press conference held at the conference hall of the Saint Patrick’s Catholic church in Awka that during the burial of the Bishop’s mother at Nanka on October 24, a lot of people were there and that people of Ngige’s stature were arranged at the V.I.P section at the reception in the Bishop’s compound. He said that a Reverend father, Evaristus Ezekwonna was in charge of security and order and was at the gate directing vehicles and or those allowed to go in. When Ngige came with his retinue of aides and police security, he was told that he would not go in with all of them but a few to which he agreed. Long after Ngige had gone in, three policemen standing at the gate, he explained, became unruly and insisted they would go in to their principal they escorted. Ngige, he said was called to come and identify if they were among his other aides and security personal asked to stay behind. “He came and said they were not with him and went back to the VIP section. What we heard later was that Ngige slapped a Reverend father. There is no iota of truth in this whole thing and not even the rude policemen slapped our Reverend father,” he said source: www.informng.com/ngiges-sister-debarred-in-us-over-alleged-money-laundering/ |
