Overcrowding: At least six UNICAL students pass out during an exam

No fewer than six students of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Cross River State, pa$$ed out during an exam at the school’s premises on Thursday, February 9, 2023.

It was gathered that the 100-level medical sciences students faint£d and were rushed to the hospital due to overcrowding and the struggle to get into the exam hall.

In the video obtained, the students could be seen being rushed into a shuttle by their colleagues.

There is tension at the University of Benin, Edo State, after a set of soldiers a§§aulted a female student at an ATM booth on campus.

According to multiple reports, some soldiers had bombarded the school on Thursday, February 2, to use the ATM. “A female student who was at the scene was using her phone and the soldiers thought she was recording them. They ordered their female colleague to be@t her blue and back. Luckily for the victim, school’s security came to her rescue.

At least nine female UNIZIK students reportedly raped by armed robbers in Anambra State

The students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK / NAU) living in the Ifite axis of Awka, Anambra, are crying aloud over the incessant robbery att@cks in various lodges in the area since the beginning of the year.

It is reported that the latest incident happened in the early hours of Friday in which nine female students were r@p£d by the armed robbers who invaded their hostel. The robbers who were estimated to be about 20 had stormed Ifite road, Awka, where the hostels were located and started sh@@ting indiscriminately and robbing from room to room.

A student of the university, who spoke with news reporters, said that the robbers were heavily armed with guns, axes and m@tchetes. “We were at the hostel when we had gunshots that lasted for about ten minutes and we ran for our lives because they had not gotten to our own hostel; we hid at the back of some shops in the area.

Then we had loud noise of female students shouting for help but nobody could summon the courage to stop them because they are well armed. Those that attempted to resist were be@ten blue and black and many people got injured.

It is reported that four days before the incident, students were att@cked at bars and restaurants in the area. Recall that on the January 9, a 200-level student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, identified simply as Daniel, was killed while trying to recover his phone from armed robbers in his lodge.

Meanwhile, the students have now taken to social media to call on the relevant authorities to do the needful concerning the security of lives and properties.

A father of two has been killed after greeting a member of a rival cult group the wrong way.

According to FIJ, Nonso Okoye was killed by some cultists believed to be members of the confraternity in Anambra state.

The report added that Okoye was believed to be a member of the rival Vikings confraternity at the time of his death.


A source, who asked not to be named, told FIJ that Okoye was shot on January 8, 2023, for “imitating the greeting pattern of the confraternity” while greeting a friend.

The source also revealed that Okoye’s killers murdered him in the presence of his wife, two kids, mother and siblings.

The killers also cut off his right hand and went away with it after he had been killed.

The shocking incident happened at the deceased’s family house located on Attah road, Nkpor, Anambra State.

“He was at a club when he greeted a member the way the cult members greet themselves. Before then, there had been clashes between the rival gangs,” the source said.

“This particular greeting made him an instant target for . Unknown to him, there were some members at the club who recorded the video. Some other members got angry when they saw the video.”

In a video made available to FIJ, the deceased’s wrist was missing while his body was lying on the floor in a pool his of own blood.


“On Sunday morning, they stormed his family house and, in the presence of his wife, two kids, mother and sisters, killed him. They then cut off his hand and went away with it,” the source further said.

“They had made three attempts on his life in the past but he survived them all. This last attempt, he was not lucky enough.”

300 Per Litre Price Of Petrol Okay – Petroleum Minister, Timipre Sylva

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has explained that the current pump price of petrol across states is not too bad when other factors causing the hike are carefully considered.
The minister, who was addressing a press in Abuja on Monday, said he will not feel bad about buying petrol at N300 per litre.

Sylva observed that the pricing of the commodity product is determined by a lot of factors including the Naira exchange rate.

The Minister admitted that so much money is being burnt by individuals and organizations to run their vehicles.

Sylva said: “You asked if we can achieve N40 per litre? I will say ‘yes’, but this is dependent on if we are able to also achieve, within this period, improvement in the exchange rate.

“If we can achieve one dollar to one naira exchange rate within this time, we would also be able to improve on the pricing because these things are dependent on other factors; the exchange rate is also a factor. That’s just in the lighter mood but seriously speaking, I commend the agencies under the ministry for their hard work. The management of the supply situation, under this subsidy regime is not easy.

“We must all agree, so much money is being burnt in our vehicles, but somehow, we have to scoop funds to continue to keep the country wet.


“The N40 per litre pricing is not something that is realistic. But, as you asked me, how I would feel as a private citizen to buy petroleum product at N300 per litre, frankly, I would say I won’t feel bad knowing the kind of situation and if you compare Nigeria to other countries, then, you would also understand. If you convert the N300 to other currencies, then, you would probably understand.”

The minister explained that some modular refineries had been completed but still faced with the challenge of crude oil supply. He assured that the rehabilitation of 60,000 barrels per day Port Harcourt refinery had been completed, adding that the refinery would commence production by the first quarter of this year.


He added: “We have taken 20 per cent equity in the Dangote refinery. We have also taken 20 per cent equity in Azike refinery, in the Walter Smith refinery, we took 30 per cent and in Dupaul, we’ve taken more than 20 per cent. Dupaul refinery has already concluded construction and it only remains to start operations. I’m sure within the next one month, and they will start operations.

“We are hoping the Dangote refinery comes on stream this year and once our own rehabilitated refineries start to work, we will be able to get the country wet (with petroleum products).


“These are contractual issues. They need to have fixed stock guarantee…These are commercial considerations between the owner of the modular refinery and the supplier of crude oil. Many k!lled as gunmen attack CUPP spokesperson Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere's residence in Imo

Gunmen have attacked the Spokesperson of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, in his country home of Akokwa, Ideato North local government area of Imo State.

The attack happened on Saturday afternoon, Jan 14.

Ugochinyere’s uncle, Ikeagwuonu, has been shot d£ad and several others fatally wounded in the attack.

Ugochinyere shared a distressed tweet on Saturday afternoon, asking for help.

He tweeted: "We need help in Akokwa Ideato North LGA Imo State.. My uncle have been k!lled now.. They are setting everything on fire. Pz help."

The gunmen, said to be numbering about 50, began shooting sporadically when they arrived, causing people to run in different directions

They also set ablaze all the vehicles within the vicinity.

Footage from the scene shows burnt houses and the charred remains campaign materials at Ugochinyere’s country home.

Reacting to the attack, Omoyele Sowore, tweeted: "I just received a distress call from IkengaImo in the last few minutes that his house is surrounded by elements believed to be assassins sent by Imo State Govt and his uncle had just been killed. Security agents must protect IkengaImo of CUPP and ensure his total safety!"

Ugochinyere is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ideator North/South federal constituency of Imo State in the forthcoming elections.

In a statement, the PDP chapter in Imo state confirmed the attack.

The statement which was issued by the party’s spokesperson in the state, Collins Opuruozor, read, "Imo PDP Alerts Security Agencies, Nigerians, International Community To Sponsored Killings, Arson Going On At the Akokwa Residence of Ikenga Ugochinyere, PDP Candidate For Ideato Federal Constituency.

"The PDP in Imo State alerts that, at the moment, there is a well-coordinated armed attack going on at the Akokwa residence of Ikenga Ugochinyere, the candidate of our party for Ideato North/South Federal Constituency.

Protest rocks UNIZIK as armed robb£rs kill a 200L student over SIM card

Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka, Anambra State, on Monday, January 9, staged a protest over the killing of their colleague by armed robbers.

It was gathered that the 200L student of the department of Philosophy, identified simply as Daniel, was reportedly shot dead by armed robbers while trying to recover his phone from them in his Ifite-Awka lodge.

According to reports, Daniel lost his life on Sunday evening, January 8, while trying to collect his SIM card from the armed robbers that came to raid his lodge.

Nigerian Tribune reports that after giving his phone to the armed robbers, Daniel requested for his Sim card which the robbers agreed to give to him. Holding an already set g¥n and struggling to remove a phone on a tight pack to give Daniel’s Sim to him resulted in the mistake pull of the trigger.

During the process, he was sh@t in his stomach. He was quickly rushed to the hospital, but sadly gave up the ghost due to the excess loss of blood.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said: “I got this unfortunate information from the Unizik SUG president, yesternight. Police patrol has been on since then. I urge the witness of the incident to help us with information to investigate, please.”

A SaharaReporters report sighted by Naija News on Friday quoted the cleric as saying that the APC Muslim/Muslim ticket is a call to Jihad; hence they will defend the call with their ballots come February.

According to the news platform, Auwal said this today at a special prayer session organized by Muslim clerics in Kano for the success of Tinubu’s candidacy.

Auwal reportedly informed the congregation that Tinubu/Shettima’s ticket had defined the supremacy of Islam, urging all Muslim voters to vote for the APC on election day overwhelmingly….

“This meeting was convened by our group, Islamic Preachers and we’ve invited about 75 Muslim groups, including the Kaduna State Izala and the Jos (Plateau state) Izala, the Salafiya, Kadariya, IMWAN, Muslims in Da’awa, Women in Da’awa. Also here are groups like Yoruba and Igbo Muslim groups. Last but not least, we have here the Kano Imams’ group.


“The import of today’s sitting is to let the clerics and indeed all Muslim leaders know that the Muslim/Muslim ticket is not about mere promises of bringing dividends of democracy like road and infrastructure. This ticket is about the supremacy of Islam. This ticket has honoured Islam. Therefore, we’ll honour it with our ballots,” Auwal was quoted saying at the session.

The cleric furthermore declared that a Muslim is always better than an infidel. “What more of two Muslims combined? This informed why we undertook to create this awareness and to let all of us know that this Muslim/Muslim ticket is a jihad call to all Muslims,” Auwal said.

On his part, another preacher who is said to be the leader of the Izala sect in Kano, Sheikh Abdallah Saleh Pakistan, noted that the former Governor of Lagos State had for a long time promoted the enthronement of a Muslim/Muslim candidate.

“We’ve discussed extensively on how this candidate (Tinubu) has for a long time strived to actualise the Muslim/Muslim ticket. He paired Nuhu Ribadu with a Muslim Yoruba back then and was also instrumental to the Abiola/Kingibe, Muslim/Muslim ticket,” the cleric said.

Governor of Kano State Abdullahi Ganduje, who was also reportedly at the gathering, said that Tinubu/Shettima ticket would be supported by all Muslims.

According to him, it was not the first time to practice Muslim/Muslim in the country.

“Muslim/Muslim ticket is not new to Nigeria. The Abiola/Kingibe Muslim/Muslim was overwhelmingly voted Muslims, and it succeeded. Unfortunately, a military junta nullified the victory. Another opportunity is here and thank God we’re now in democracy; no one can annul the election,” Ganduje reportedly said.
