Man who came home for Christmas found dead inside his car in Anambra

A 50-year-old man identified as Udoka Eze, who visited home for the Christmas holiday has been k!lled in Nawfija community in Anambra State.

According to eyewitnesses, the man was found dead in his red Toyota Camry car along Umunze road today January 4. In a video shared online, a resident said the man recently returned home for Christmas and was k!lled by unknown persons. 

The spokesperosn of the state police command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said the vehicle was found along Umunze road, and that the d€ceased has been taken to the morgue, after a doctor pronounced him d€ad.

“Today 04/1/2023, police recovered an abandoned red Toyota Camry vehicle with reg No AGL 525 GA found along Umunze road.

Immediate search was conducted in the vehicle, and the lifeless body of a young man with marks of violence and with suspected gunshot injury was found in the car.

Further inquiries made revealed that the victim is one Mr. Udoka Eze ‘M’ aged 50yrs from Iyiafor Village, Owerezukala. He was confirmed d€ad by a doctor when taken to the hospital and the body has been deposited at the morgue. Investigation has since commenced.

The Command wants to use this opportunity to call on the witnesses of this incident to come forward with information that will assist in the ongoing investigation and patrols have been intensified in the area.” he said.

Enugu big boy arrested with 105 parcels of cocaine concealed in candies on Christmas Day

A Brazil returnee, Agbasi Prosper Chux, 42, has been arrested by operatives of the National Dr¥g Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, with 105 parcels of coc@ine concealed in candies at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The suspect, who hails from Enugu State, was arrested at the D arrival hall of the airport during inward clearance of passengers from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Doha on Qatar Airways on Christmas Day, December 25, 2022.

NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on January 1, 2023 said: “An initial search of the suspects two checked in bags almost made him a free man as there was nothing incriminating found there until the NDLEA officers took a second look at the duty-free shopping nylon bags containing packs of candies he was holding in his hands.

A thorough examination of the duty-free shopping bags revealed the packs of candies inside were actually used to conceal 105 parcels of coc@ine weighing 2.8 kilograms and 43 grams of cannabis.

Preliminary test conducted on a plastic bottle of body lotion also found in possession of the suspect also tested positive to coc@ine with a total weight of 472 grams.

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned that any activity designed to disr¥pt the 2023 general election will be met with “full force of the law“.
 
The President gave the warning in his New Year message made available to the media on Saturday, December 31.

According to him, “In year 2023, Nigerians go to the polls to exercise our right to vote and elect a new administration. It is an important year for our country to ensure that we have another smooth transition of government, to whoever the people have decided upon.

This administration’s landmark Amended Electoral Act will ensure that we have free and fair elections across the Nation. The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 400-level student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka for allegedly masterminding the abd¥ction of his best friend.

The suspect, Ndome Godsent Ogar, from the department of medicine, was said to have kidn@pped his friend, a 300-level student from the department of Medical Laboratory.

Details of the incident are still sketchy but according to reports, Ndome and his gang demanded a N4million ransom, which was paid.

The suspect also reportedly kidn@pped a primary one pupil in Umuanuka Otolo Nnewi and a ransom of N700k was paid before the child was released.

However, he ran out of luck recently when he was nabbed by security operatives in the state.

A dramatic scene played out at a shop when a man bought an item and paid with the newly released and redesigned N1000.

The man handed a the shop owner a N1k note but she rejected it on the belief that it is counterfeit money.

He, however insisted that the money is original and it was just released for transaction around the country.

The drama attracted attention of passers-by as the man aid he did not have any other cash apart from the new note.


The woman then went further to accuse him of being a yahoo boy who wants to scam her by paying with fake money.

The back and forth continued for a while and some onlookers explained to her that the money is real but she stood her grounds and refused to collect it.

NDLEA uncovers underground drug bunk used by suspected drug kingpin to store banned substances in Delta

Men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA have uncovered an underground drug bunk in the home of a suspected drug kingpin, Okrika Kingsley Ozioma, at Usiefurum town, Ughelli South LGA,.

The operatives while acting on a tipoff stormed Ozioma three-bedroom bungalow building were the drug bunk was discovered. A statement released by Femi Babafemi, spokesperson of the anti-drug agency says the suspect is now on the run. He mentioned that 17.6kgs of Cannabis Sativa was recovered from the bunk in addition to a 2003 Silver Golf car with registration number Lagos KJA 572 AZ used for the distribution of drugs within and outside Warri.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives in Lagos on Sunday 11th December intercepted a truck and a bus conveying 113 jumbo bags of cannabis Sativa weighing 4,802.84 kilograms around the VGC estate area of Ajah.

Wanted gunman apprehended in Anambra 

Members of a local vigilante have arrested a notorious gunman, Chukwuma Ejionye, in Ezinifitte, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The native of Awo, Ezinifite in Nnewi South has been linked to different attacks in Ezinifitte, and the entire Nnewi South.

Confessing to carrying out attacks in the area, Ejionye said; 

“I was in Unubi camp, before I moved to Ezinifitte, before going to Agulezechukwu, where I stayed with other members. Then, later I now left the group and escaped, to stay on my own.” 

The Nation reported that the suspect has long been on the wanted list of Joint Security Forces working in the State.

Also listing some of the attacks the suspects has allegedly carried out, one of those present at where he was paraded, said; 

“He is a known kidnapper who has been responsible for the killing of security men, including vigilante.

“He kidnapped a prominent man and collected N1.5 million before setting him free, but unfortunately for the man, he was dumped in a place where he broke his lungs, and has been under treatment since then.

“JTF has visited his house and recovered guns and security uniforms which he used when he was a security man (he worked as a vigilante operative).

“He has been on the wanted list for a long time and has been one of the reasons Ezinifitte and Nnewi South were regarded as being highly unsafe.

One of the famous Ghanaian pastors has advised people not to give what belongs to God to the poor.

During a sermon in his church, he made these clearances about poor people. And revealed why they are suffering.

While speaking to his congregation, the senior pastor of Holy Hill Chapel Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Dr Bempah highlighted that God’s money should not be given to the poor just because they seem needy.

However, he explained that poor people are suffering the consequences of wrongs they made in the past.

“Even what belongs to God, we don’t give to the poor. Because the reason why they’re poor nobody knows. It is not every poor person you have mercy upon. Some of them are going through the punishment of satan. That’s why even sometimes giving to the poor, you discernment”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Ramon Oshodi on Wednesday, November 30, ordered that the defendant to be remanded in Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail.

The vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to brace up for a tough time in 2023.

Fire razes Onitsha drug market

Scores of people sustained various degrees of injury during a fire outbreak at the popular drug (Ogbo Ogwu) market in Onitsha, Anambra State.

 
Goods and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the inferno which occurred on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

 

The cause of the fire, which affected a section of the market, is yet to be ascertained as well as the actual number of casualties at the time of filing this report. 

Director, Fire Service in the state, Engr. Martin Agbili, who confirmed the incident said the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.  

"The cause of the fire and extent of damages is yet to be ascertained, but my men are currently at the scene battling the fire,” he added.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, who also confirmed the incident said: “The situation is under control. The Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations is currently there and the fire service operatives are also on grounds. Further details shall be communicated please.".
