President Goodluck Jonathan has welcomed the commitment of the United Kingdom to a reinvigoration of bilateral relations with Nigeria. President Jonathan was speaking to the Rt. Hon. Andrew Mitchell, British Secretary of State for International Development, at State House, Friday. He said Mr. Mitchells visit, the first by a cabinet minister from the UK in nearly five years was a welcome sign that relations were going to be reinvigorated, adding that, Nigeria is pleased at the commitment to improve relations, especially economic and trade relations. President Jonathan recalled Nigerias historic relationship with Britain, as well as its key role in Africa, and reassured Mr. Mitchell of the Administrations total commitment to improving the economy, in order to raise the living standards of citizens. The President expressed appreciation for Britains promise to support Nigerias efforts at economic development and security sector reform, urging that access to European markets would make a great difference. Earlier, the British Secretary of State for International Development, Rt. Hon. Andrew Mitchell, said the United Kingdom wanted to reinvigorate relations with Nigeria through stronger economic cooperation, and support for better basic services and security sector reform. He said his visit was the first to Nigeria by a Cabinet Minister in almost five years, indicating a desire to restore and reinvigorate the relations between the two countries. Also today, President Jonathan told the visiting Libyan Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdullahi Oubaidi that the African Union would discuss the countrys situation at the forthcoming AU Summit in Malabo. Mr. Abdulahi Oubaidi, brought a special message from Col. Muammar Gaddafi to State House, Friday. |
I just saw on Channelstv Col Gadhaffi's top envoy speaking to state house correspondents his reason for visiting Nigeria.According to him,he brings words from Gadhaff requesting Nigeria's support ahead of the AU's summit, they want to learn from Nigeria,as they believe they can learn from the Nigerian experience on how to manage civil war and still remain intact as a single nation .As the country realised that on both sides of the warring parties in Libya, every death recorded is a Libyan death. What amassed me is that a proud and arrogant Gaddaffi who arrogantly declared that Nigeria is a fake entity which deserves to be divided into north and south due to religious difference. These very undiplomatic statement made by gadaffi,i recalled, caused a major uproar in Nigeria. While,I dont think share the argument that Gadaffi is unwarranted, what baffled me is the shocking turn of events just few months after he made that remark!.Even Libya,he prides to be religiously 'harmonious' is seeing the worst of disharmony! The christian lesson that advises one to first remove that log in ones eyes before you remove the speck in another person's eye becomes relevant. becareful what you wish others ![]() |
this is the result of having a weak leader and minority in govt.I think those that argued that our politics is not matured to produce a president from the minority stock could afterall be right!GEJ is clearly an orphan, the niger-delta got a dose of what they gave northern presidents and suddenly it dawned on them, that wen it comes to rough tactics, number is essential! When militants were slaughtering nigerian soldiers of northern extractn in the niger-delta,they were feeling cool, now the chicken has come home to roost and niger-delta no get mouth.GEJ needs a well respected, politically strong southern tribe with religious/cultural affinity to the north to reach them ,As far as the elite of these two blocs are concerned,GEJ is an outsider!he must set up such strong committee to buy time for him to win their trust and confidence, then like marchavelli crush any of the reasons responsible for this onslaught, unfortunate,he cant win because the nigerian state lacks the capacity to take on serious internal threat like this, the campaign has its root in ignorance, unemployment and religious-political machinations cum struggle for resources and power.these will not be won by bullets! |

Zoning: North gives up! On June 12, 2011 · In Headlines , * North no longer interested in zoning – Kaita BY CLIFFORD NDUJIHE The North’s patience with zoning seems exhausted after a prominent northern leader Alhaji Lawal Kaita, declared weekend, that they were no longer interested in the arrangement that sees Nigeria’s top six offices shared among the six geo-political zones. Kaita spoke on the controversial zoning arrangement, just as the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, navigate its way out of the cul-de-sac the power sharing arrangement has run into following the emergence of the Aminu Tambuwal as speaker of the House of Representatives. The party had zoned the House of Representatives speaker to the South-West geo-political zone, which could only return six Reps at the 2011 polls, an alibi for most Reps and some stakeholders to oppose the zoning formula, which translated into the election of Tambuwal (from North-West) as speaker and Rep Emeka Ihedioha (South-East) as deputy speaker. Consequently, the PDP zoning formula is now distorted as the South-West has no post in the power equation except chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees held by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The North-East is worse off without any post. Currently, the South-South has the President; North-West has Vice President, Speaker of the House of Representatives and acting national chairman of the PDP; North-Central has Senate President and Chief Justice of the Federation; and South-East has Deputy Senate President, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. Notable PDP top shots, who shared their perspective apart from Kaita, inlude Chief Guy Ikokwu and Chief Ebenezer Babatope. Others are third Republic Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife; former National Vice Chairman of the PDP (South-East), Chief Nze Ozichukwu; veteran presidential candidate, Mrs Sarah Jubril; former national chairmanship candidate of the party, Chief Sonny Iroche; and chieftain of the PDP in the South-West, Chief Oladipo Jimilehin. Let every zone find its way – Kaita Speaking on the issue, Kaita said the country would not have been on the cliff-hanger if President Goodluck Jonathan did not go against the PDP’s zoning arrangement by running for the presidency. Stating that founders of the PDP advocated for zoning to cater for the interests of all parts of the country, he queried: “Without zoning, who would imagine that somebody from Bayelsa State will rule this country?” The Second Republic politician said what jettisoning of zoning portended for the country was palpable with what had panned out so far: North-West has Vice President and Speaker of the House of Representatives; South-West and North-East have nothing. “We advocated zoning but Obasanjo, President Jonathan and others because of their interests jettisoned zoning. Now they want zoning. They can’t eat their cake and have it. It is a shame for the party, PDP,” he said. Asked the way out, Kaita said the solution lied in stakeholders sitting down to re-think but for now, he said “We (North) are not interested in zoning, let every zone find its way.” Equity, meritocracy, the way out – Iroche To Sonny Iroche, recent events in the polity indicated the death of zoning. He called for entrenchment of equity and meritocracy. For a start, he wants the PDP to throw open the race for its national chairmanship, to get the best hands for the job of repositioning the party. His words: “The recent development in our polity, whereby the will of the people and not a few was victorious, played out in the House of Representatives in electing a Speaker for the House in defiance of zoning. The emergence of Hon Tambuwal has put the final nail in the coffin of zoning. I am an advocate of equity, good governance and for the emergence of the available best candidate for any political or economic office in the land, as long as the person is a Nigerian in good standing. “It is not equitable to have the office of the speaker zoned to a political region with only five members in the House. This is against a zone like the South-East, which overwhelmingly voted for the Peoples Democratic Party. It is gratifying that the South-East produced the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, but is this enough political compensation for the region that voted massively for the PDP? If you look at the composition of government today, you will see an inequitable distribution of office, Vice President, Senate President and Speaker all from the old Northern bloc. And from current PDP zoning structure, if allowed to stay, the North -West zone is to produce the National Chairman of the party, this will be most unfair and inequitable to the rest of Nigeria. “As an advocate of non-zoning, but equity and merit, I am therefore suggesting that the context for the next National Chairman of PDP should be thrown open to all party members, irrespective of their zone of origin. PDP must as a matter of urgency hold its national convention to elect new officers in the current dispensation, in which all interested members are allowed to contest any office of their choice. With the current Jonathan dispensation, we have the golden opportunity to do away with parochial zoning, but to entrench a system of putting our best foot forward- our First Eleven and not to place a premium on mediocrity at the expense of meritocracy in what we call zoning without equity. Only the best should be allowed to emerge, if we are to build a great nation.” PDP erred in zoning speaker to South-West – Ikokwu Second Republic Chairman of the defunct Nigerian Peoples Party (NPP) in Anambra State and one of the founders of PDP, Chief Guy Ikokwu, attributed the brewing controversy to the party’s wrong interpretation of political currents in the country by zoning the speakership to the South-West zone. He said: “The election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives is a reflection of the almost total loss of confidence by the electorate of the South-West zone and ability of the PDP to effectively represent the zone in the National Assembly. The performance of South-West Representatives at the National Assembly with particular reference to the speakership, which was zoned to the South-West does not show that the zone has risen up to the responsibility of their assignment. The first speaker, Patricia Etteh, was disgraced out of office because of contract scandal in the House and in quick procession, the Integrity Group in the House replaced her with Dimeji Bankole, whose tenure was characterised by worse scandals leading to his arrest and arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). “With only five Reps in the House, the PDP national headquarters was clearly insensitive to the feeling of the people of the South-West and National Assembly. If the PDP headquarters had read the political pendulum correctly, they would not have tried foisting a speaker on the South-West and National Assembly, a situation, which does not give them any choice. Sokoto State returned a virtual 100 per cent for PDP. Same for Imo State. So, it is not surprising that the party loyalists in the House and in the two states refused to be bullied into an undemocratic and unrepresentative choice of speakership. “The ACN, which has almost 100 per cent going by South-West representation refused the offer of speakership. The position of the House showed that there is clear difference between Parliamentary democracy and Presidential democracy. The Party whip is stronger in a parliamentary democracy than in a presidential democracy. A lack of confidence in a parliamentary democracy topples the government and leads to a general election before the end of tenure. But it is not so in the case of Presidential democracy. This is the reason for persistent calls for a return to a parliamentary democracy because the presidential system, which we have now, was foisted on this country by the military regimes of the past. “Party discipline and democracy would be better enhanced by our return to parliamentary system. It is not surprising that under our present presidential system, candidates who lose primaries in their parties automatically decamp to other parties to contest the same election without let or hindrance and if they succeed in the elections under a different party banner, they automatically revert to their former party without qualms or remorse. Party discipline and democracy would be strengthened when we reject the system of carpet-crossing. Those who want to change their party affiliation should go back to the electorate to seek a new mandate instead of the political harlotry reminiscent of the present system, which is highly undemocratic.” PDP ‘ll resolve the logjam – Babatope, Jimilehin, Sarah Jubril Babatope, Jimilehin and Sarah Jubril, were optimistic the PDP would overcome the challenge posed by zoning. Babatope said the zoning controversy did not portend any problem for the PDP or the country, insisting that the party’s zoning policy was alive. “What happened at the House of Representatives is that a gentleman, Tambuwal went against the decision of the party, he kicked against party supremacy and discipline. And the party has said it does not condone what the boy has done. The National Working Committee and the presidency will meet and decide what posts to give to the South-West, to assuage the zone.” Babatope has a soul mate in Jimilehin, who countered that the PDP did not err in zoning the speakership to the South-West. Said Jimilehin: “The zoning formula is another way of complying with the Federal Character Principle. That is what PDP has done by zoning the Speakership to the South-West. What happened last Monday was against the Federal Character Principle. I expected that Akande-Adeola would have been unanimously elected. “Many reasons have been adduced for voting Tambuwal. One is they did because PDP did not win in the South-West. Another reason is, it is a ploy by opposition to weaken PDP and paint it in bad light that PDP is unable to control its members. But we will resolve the matter. President Jonathan is the leader of our party. The BOT chairman is from the South-West. I am sure they would put heads together and correct the imbalance.” Relatedly, Jubril said the challenge was not “too much of a turmoil,” adding that the leadership of the party and National Assembly had met and was moving towards resolving it. Zoning has no benefits – Ezeife To Ezeife, who saw the issue as a crisis, noted that it was being managed and would be resolved. The former governor, who regretted that his South-East zone had been dragged into the mire, said contrary to speculations, zoning had no benefits. “The matter is simply a crisis. But it is being managed. Contrary to some speculations, it has no benefits. It also bothers me that South-East was somehow brought into it. These transient problems will rear their heads and may appear to threaten long term project but we can handle them,” he said. We must not confuse zoning with rotation – Ozichukwu On his part, Ozichukwu said many people were confusing zoning and power rotation, which he said meant different things in the PDP. “Zoning and rotation mean different things in PDP lexicon and cannot be used interchangeably. Rotation is moving from one zone to another. Zoning is when the President, Governor, Chairman and their deputies have emerged, you share other offices to reflect equity.” He said the prevailing problems, which he said were normal, would be surmounted by the party. “PDP is a fast growing organisation beset by teem fantasies, peer jealousy and sibling rivalry. These are birth pains. Hon. Tambuwal’s challenge is one of its symptoms. It is just a consequence. PDP will get over them. These things will happen for sometime. PDP is a growing party. I think it will be resolved before 2015. I think good conscience will prevail. We are almost into full blown democracy. Shocks here and there will strengthen the party. PDP has shown some restraints. We are going through a weeding process. Various legislatures are coming of age. It is the most vulnerable and youngest of the three arms of government. The Judiciary and Executive have matured more than the legislature. I hope things will turn out well,” he said. Asked if President Jonathan’s emergence had not killed zoning, Ozichukwu said to the contrary because “the Jonathan thing is a one off thing, an accident. It was not premeditated. It was an act of God. You don’t query God. His emergence was an exigency through the Doctrine of Necessity. Nobody is saying what happened is fine. But given the circumstances of what happened, Jonathan had to emerge. We thank the North for sacrificing and allowing one Nigeria to continue. Nobody knew President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua was going to die. We pray such things don’t happen again. It was an act of God.” |
Jonathan and burden of presidential campaigns Font size: Emmanuel Oladesu 09/03/2011 00:40:00 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate President Goodluck Jonathan has embarked on an aggressive campaign across the 36 states at a time opposition parties are consolidating their strengths in their strongholds. But the greatest challenge is convincing Nigerians that PDP will fulfill its campaign promises after the elections, reports Deputy Political Editor EMMANUEL OLADESU. Many observers believe that next month’s election is critical to the political career of Dr Goodluck Jonathan, former university teacher and President facing an unusual test of survival. Others contend that it is also crucial to his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has wielded power for an uninterrupted 12 years. However, the April poll is more important to the opposition parties itching to cut to sizes the influence of the acclaimed largest party, which has not impressed Nigerians by its poor record, but relies on its power of incumbency and time-tested bullying tactics to retain power. There are four main parties locked in the contest for political control at the centre and non of them lack traditional strongholds. For example, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) is waxing stronger in the Southwest, apart from making in-roads into some Northern and Southeast and Southsouth States. The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) led by Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) is the toast of certain Northern States, which are not likely to yield to any emergency carrots dangled by the federal power house. The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) is not likely to yield grounds in its ‘domains’, especially Kano, although the votes cast for its presidential candidate, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, may be wasted because they would not be enough to take him to the highest office. This season, as crisis continues to rock the ruling party, opposition parties, which PDP leaders have written off, are enlarging their coasts to accommodate aggrieved defectors from the fold. The campaign is a burden because the President has not been able to tender proofs of performance by the PDP ederal government to Nigerians. In many states, analysts have contended that President Jonathan may fail to get the required percentage of votes to re-affirm him in office. But at the same time, they argue that he may likely scale through, owing to the gross failurel of opposition parties to discover the strength in unity. President Jonathan, judging by his aggressive campaigns, is not indifferent to difficulties ahead. There are also chances that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headed by Prof. Attahiru Jega, may not operate under the President’s armpit, unlike his predecessor. Apart from reaching out to millions of Nigerians through his face book, the President has been traversing the length and breath of the country to solicit for votes ahead of the elections. It is a rare experience for the Ijaw-born politician, who has had a meteoric rise to stardom, climbing in quick successions the ladders of deputy governor, governor, Vice President, Acting President and President, in the spate of 12 years. The presidential campaign has afforded him an opportunity to know more about the diverse geo-political zones, local party leaders, and groaning interiors that have continued to endured the inept PDP federal government. In 1999, 2003, and 2007, his party made unfulfilled promises to the people. In 2011, the President has come with more branded promises. Irked by these past empty promises, a leader of ACN, Senator Bola Tinubu, described the PDP federal government as a “ promise and fail government”, warning Nigerians to beware of its antics. “They promised many things and delivered non. Not even electricity, not even roads that are death traps across the country, despite the huge billions of naira wasted on them. Their budgets also failed”, he fumed. Indisputably, presidential campaigns across board has failed to borrow a leaf from the past. They are not rigorous, reminiscent of the earlier era. They pale into a convenient tour of capital cities, unlike the campaign intinery of men of the old order-the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr Nnamidi Azikiwe, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello and even, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who travelled long distances on roads to meet distressed people. “The PDP campaign is not based on issues and ideas. The President has not said anything that is new. Since 1999, PDP has been promissing the same thing-road, refinery and electricity. They promise them in 2003 and 2007, but could not redeem the promises. What is the assurance that they will not fail again in 2011?”, asked Comrade Joe Igbikwe, Lagos State ACN Publicity Secretary, who added: “They take generators to their campaigns in anticipation of power failure”. President Jonathan is usually accompanied by big men-ministers, special advisers, governors and other government functionaries who have not particularly impressed Nigerians with their performance in office, Since the President has not been perceived as a key leader of the ruling party, until fate catapulted him to the Presidency, he has been spared of cumulative blames by angry Nigerians, who nevertheless lambasted his party for taking the country to doom. Like some of his rivals, Dr Jonathan is not campaigning based on ideology because his party swims in ideological vacuum. But he seems to have been tutored about problems that are peculiar to the different locations he has visited. the campaign would have been easier if PDP governors have performed excellently. In Lagos, where six million people registered to vote, President Jonathan, owned up to the neglect of the former Federal Capital Territory by the Obasanjo and Yar’Adua Administrations. There have been a protracted dispute between the federal and Lagos leaders over the non-release of withheld landed property and council funds. In a remorseful tone, he offered to make amends on campaign ground at Tafawa Balewa Squares, saying that, if he wins in April, the federal government will sell federal government assts in Lagos”. The impact of his assurance to Lagosians was watered down barely a week later when Governor Babatunde Fashola cried out that “they have sold Tafawa Balewa Square to their friends”, vowing to fight the controversial sale to a standstill. Jonathan’s campaign in Lagos, was in fact, offensive to the populace, in another respect. Sitting not far from the President was Chief Olabode George, who was released from jail two days earlier and has not been pardoned by him. Many thought that the rally was meant to showcase evil. In Ibadan, the capital of the Southwest, Jonathan committed a blunder. He branded the entrenched progressive civilian Generals of the race as rascals at a time their popularity was soaring. The President observed his mandatory National Youth Service at Iresi, Osun State. A brief stint in that rural enclave was inadequate to expose him fully to the treasured culture and values of the geo-political zone. In other places-Asaba, Maiduguri, Yola, Kwara, Uyo, Umuahia, Gombe, and Ennugu, the President appeared in dress codes that reflected the culture of the environment. He spoke with vigour, but there was no presidential achievement on ground to wipe effective emotions. Amid the campaigns, his attention was diverted by the prolonged row over the presidential primaries as the Ciroma-led group still had an axe to grind with him. To douse the brewing tension, he moved swiftly, conveying the impression that to the North that he is interested in one term. In the Northwest, where the fear of Buhari is the beginning of wisdom, Dr Jonathan has also intensified his efforts. During the primaries, he lost in Kano, Zamfara, Kebbi and Sokoto States. In Kaduna, he however, got the greatest shocker. The President suffered the indignity of addressing a ghost rally, despite the fact that his deputy and running mate, Namadi Sambo, who was governor of the state, was beside him. Whatever loss he is likely to incur there would be made up in the Southsouth. The euphoria was high in Port-Harcourt, but the campaign left people with sad memories. From that zone, he sent a message to Nigerians that he would have a national outlook. he said: ‘We will do our best. We will run a government that will not discriminate against any Nigerian, irrespective of the language you speak, irrespective of ethnic nationality you belong, irrespective of your religion”. But, there was stampede and the President had to temporarily halt further campaigns as a mark of respect to the dead. Throughout, the President, naturally, has not exuded charisma. But he has not also faked his behaviour. There is no worthy quotable quote yet. The President spoke cautiously and moderately according to his limited experience as a politician still leaning the presidential ropes. |
@ rockidie, becareful what u wish.what goes round comes around.imagine what state d country wouled be by now if the avoidable error had resulted in death. ko ni funny @ all! pdp is seriously jittery!Their body language could cos some unfortunate fellow to plan a sabotage of the opposition! They should show more moderation and ensure the leading lights of the opposition get extra protection during this campaign period. These guys are someone's parent(s).Tinubu will overcome.Vote Ribadu and Adeola for vision, integrity and competence in digital form. |
Sienna, its quite nice to drink from ur fountain of knowledge and without being prejudiced,i think u dont have sufficient experience on running a diesel powered auto in Nigeria. My brother,if you dare try buy a diesel-engine car in Nigeria, walahi, you will suffer!.I once had a diesel-engine car,i read some comments online and i got sucked in,the least of my worries then was mechanic cos I had a very experienced mechanic. My major problems then where the 1. irritating and almost deafening embarrassing engine sound 2.unstable supply and price of diesel!I will drive around with my heart in my heart praying I get a fuel station dispensing diesel! And when you do get,the price would have changed! You are then faced with the option of buying fewer litres and cutting down on your journey time. There are times I would park the car in ikoyi and take bike to lekki to save fuel since I dont have confidence of my next supply. The sad part is that the rest of the people dont even care or bothered, the only time they complain is when price of petrol is changed!I was happy when I changed the car.I must however confess that, compared to its predecessor petrol-engine,its maintenance was extrmely economical. |
its time to think about how to solve nigeria's problem. The blueprint is in the ribadu website.Sai RIBADU-FOLA ADEOLA FOR VISION,INTEGRITY AND COMPETENCE IN DIGITAL FORM! |
its only something of God that can stand.Everyday, the enemies of tinubu are falling,he is still the only man standing. Who do you think is the political leader of the main political party in yorubaland?come may29,ACN would likely takeover Ogun and oyo and you still think Tinubu is not the political leader of the yoruba? The definition of a political leader is someone who can MOBILIZE PEOPLE INTO A POLITICAL PARTY FOR A POLITICAL COURSE!Did Tinubu do this or not?if yes, then he is our Leader. You should see how people where shouting tinubu at the mapo hall rally in ibadan. We are not fools in yorubaland,we know our leaders and no amount of ungodly campaign to demonise tinubu will succeed.Just yesterday,GbengaDaniel that was struggling with tinubu some years ago has moved his political structure away from pdp.His protege and followers have moved to PPN,signalling another tinubu political enemy going down! |
@ jason did you just made this remark? Do you know that the Tinubu family single handedly sponsor the ACN elections in the Whole of the SW? kai! This demonisation of tinubu has gone more than anything!Do you know the main financiers are not even the guys you see being put forward. The main financier of Aregbesola was one relatively unknown man who was assasinated just before the 2007 osun election.Who knew when Pa Alfred Rewane was funding NADECO and AFENIFERE until he was assassinated.Who knew that Radio kudirat was being financed and operated from Ladoja's ship.Major financiers of political parties are never disclosed for political and security reasons, and I am telling you for a fact, tinubu is not the main financier of acn let alone the whole of the SW acn.Would you ve imagined that a Fola Adeola was funding a political party called KOWA party and some opposition.?These guys are professional politicians, their style is to get power, get the technocrats to run the govt. and hold on to the power to continue to build goodwill from people. As their goodwill account swells, they deploy it to political cause that can advance their interests without sacrificing the goodwill of the people. That is what tinubu has been doing, that was what awo did.obj also copied it. |
we have a leader in yorubaland. He is the person that has succeeded in moving almost the whole of yoruba land into a single party. How he did it should be what the political strategists of gej should look into.Nature even abhors a vaccuum,Papa Clark shouldnt come to create another controversy and political problem for gej,How can you say the yoruba dont have leader!.ESHIN TO SHIWAJU NI O GBAFE.RIGHT NOW,NOONE IN YORUBALAND TOWERS ABOVE ASHIWAJU POLITICALLY. |
I am sorry that I gave free reign to my displeasure @ seeing Tinubu beign run down. This whole thing is saddening and puts good people off politics! My consciense wont allow me keep quiet, Everywhere it is Tinubu that is being demonised while the main culprits are those guys who dont have the interest of the people at heart.I knew what Tinubu faced when he stoutly defended the aspiration of Fashola in 2007,even some of the ACN guys we are now celebrating opposed Fashola then.Fashola even confirmed that all he is doing is largely drawn from the development plan drawn by Tinubu's administration. We should imbibe the habit of encouraging our leaders to do what is right all the time and credit them when they give good account of themselves! These guys are faced with lots of temptation everyday,it takes only a few of them that can resist the urge to follow the pdp bandwagon. That tinubu has remained all these years in the opposition is a huge political risk!If he puts his family members that are not competent and qualified for elective posts, thats the job of the opposition to provide us with cogent reasons with valid proofs why they are better than the Tinubus.I am sure if Remi Tinubu is Nkoyo ibori,Turai, patience etc, infact lagos would have mobilised against her.For 8yrs the family was in govt and even up till now,NO SINGLE CONTROVERSY/SCANDAL WAS HEARD FROM ANY OF THE TINUBUS!Dont you think that says a bit about them.We must respect their individual rights as well. How would you feel if you are one of them.Longnights of meeting in your house, near complete loss of family privacy, safety, financial resources, many days of not seeing your father or compulsory learning of the games of politics at the feet of your father etc.Even near scary experiences of political threats of assasination. These things are what the Tinubu are faced with, yet they still did not give up!Abeg. There is an enlightened electorate in Lagos, they will do the right thing. They will either vote out the Tinubus or vote them into offices.Pls dont run them down.In my eyes, they have given good account of themselves and i respect them.May God bless their family. |
9IJAMAN,you bad oh! ![]() |
Hogwash?where? @ kobojunkie, you are swallowing your words establishing you to be someone who is a bit weak when it comes to arguing facts with valid points and statistics. At first, you alleged me of staying off point after decoding your intent and purpose is to demonise Tinubu. Now,you came to personal attack, perhaps to sway point into unnecessary altercations.I wont succumb to that. Now,you said,it does not have anything to do with competence BUT QUALIFICATIONS! You see while you are busy attacking the morality of the Tinubus, you ve forgotten that they are protected by the constitution that guarantees the right of any Nigerian without criminal records to vote and be voted for.More importantly, you seem to have forgotten that the final decision to get elected lies with the electorate. Now,I am surprised that you dont see the point where we agree to a point because you are in a rush to 'kill Tinubu politically' or 'replace the political structure of Tinubu' in lagos.I wrote that there are actually many more people more qualified than the Tinubus( as there are also many more people the Tinubus are more qualified than). You want to talk about prestigeous lagos families who are more qualified, these families would need to bring themselves forward for leadership and if you know such families, encourage them to do so instead of making them look like cowards. Tinubu and his family sacrificed alot to get to where he is now,he has paid his price politically and he is way too experienced not to know who to trust and not to trust.Afterall, fashola is not his relative, yet he presented him in 2007,Fola Adeola is not even in acn,yet tinubu supported his pairing with nuhu ribadu.Out of almost 100 political offices in lagos,Tinubu presented just about 2- 3 members of his family(for offices that are not even considered powerful offices) and you use that to demonise him.Haba! Like i advised,if you ve facts that can send tinubu to jail,BLOW THE WHISTLE! |
Bode George shocker Tinubu sent me to jail By SOLA OSHUNKEYE, Monday, March 07, 2011 • Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and a strong pillar of the rulling party in Lagos State, Chief Bode George, seems to have put his recent jail experience behind him. He has returned to the political turf and resumed the battle for the soul of Lagos. In this interview with Magazine Editor, SOLA OSHUNKEYE, he talks about his recent travails and reveals that former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, master-minded his journey to Kirikiri Prisons. Excerpts: In your first interaction with the press, you said that you went to the University of life Absolutely. What were the subjects that you took and passed? Perseverance, Patience, human behaviour, because I saw the best, the worst and the most ugly of Human being. I saw people who didn’t commit any crime were roped in there. I saw those who committed crime there also going through spiritual cleansing. And so, having being at the helms of affairs of this country, and also have the rare privilege to have being to the bottom of the worst valley, it further strengthens my faith in the almightiness of our creator the Almighty God. He showed the almightiness in him. That in the same environment, He could use people of all sorts. And you know, to be a political leader, a policy maker, I never knew what could happen at the lowest level. I cannot do a complete work without being there. So it was a very rare privilege and I’ll tell my experience to people. You’ll write a PhD thesis on it? Absolutely. It will even be more than PhD. It is not somewhere you go and come back and you don’t appreciate something. In your friend ex- president Obasanjo book entitled: This animal call man, which side of this animal called man did you rediscover in prison? The only thing I could discover while in prison was God. When we were young, in my language Olodunmare nikan leyan le soro si. My parents kept telling me that, but I took it for granted. When I found myself in that kind of condition, I looked round and wondered: what did I do? What did I do to deserve this? Of course, I was so angry initially. I would say what the hell! But then, in my dream and my spiritual devotional time, I also learned the Almightiness of God. He gave me that grace to survive. I have reached the highest level of life, sat in president’s bedroom and have also seen the worst. It is a rare privilege. You know I am not the first and will not be the last to be politically railroaded to jail. What do you mean by politically railroaded to jail? Simply put, we were charged with a disobedient to federal circular, Federal circular by the board of Nigerian Port Authority (NPA). NPA is a Federal parastatal. I was a part-time chairman. The Federal circular, which we never got, which they never operated in NPA. This so called circular that they are claiming, if you talk about a federal circular, an administrative instruction, codified criminal code; can the executive arm make law? Now the man who railroaded us was Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It wasn’t the Federal Government. We were convicted by Lagos State Government headed by Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu. It wasn’t the Federal government. Wasn’t it a Federal Court? No, it was Tinubu and his gang How can you substantiate that? The law they charged us with was law of Lagos State made by the state Assembly for their own civil servants. …. But not made by Tinubu It was made by Tinubu and his gang. Made during his time. It is a politically motivated conviction. For now, when I look at the noise: Bode stole 100 billion naira where is the money? They said we split contract, splitting contract of a parastatal of that stature, a multi-billion naira corporation in this country? The legal department prepared their requirement. It has to go through different levels before it would come to the board for consideration. The executive director (engineering) who also was aboard member by virtue of his appointment presented the memo and the requirement, the whole board deliberated. It wasn’t a secret society. They deliberated on it on it and even after that, the approval will have to go to the ministry of transport. If they didn’t agree with it, they would have stopped it, but they didn’t. They were waiting for Bode George to be crucified. Of course fine, they went into their cubicle, they went into their net, and we were railroaded. Convicted. How would you say you, a Federal officer working for the Federal Government on part-time, would now be convicted because of disobeying a federal circular? I did that for providence. That experience of going down there, like I said, was a rare privilege. They’ve been shouting over the pages of the newspapers and they are the same people, a gang of cali-cabal talking Bode George, Bode George. I was even shocked to hear that when I left the prison, there was a lavish party. These bunch of devilish people. Of course I know that fellow, the emperor little of Bourdillion. The emperor without gown. Who could that be? Bola Tinubu. He is the emperor without the gown. We need to go back to our creator. We are running in a fast track to oblivion. The misinformation that is perpetually pumped into the mind and heart of our people. They are not fair. Those who came to welcome me, they branded as celebrating corruption. What a joke. They call me ex-convict, look; I won’t be the first and won’t be the last. Mandela was an ex-convict, Baba Awolowo was an ex-convict, and these are great men. They made it look like you being there, you are finished. If you don’t go through fire, you can never rise beyond mediocrity and ideology. You cannot! For me, I thank God. I was the grand patron of the church there. There is a non-denominational church there where we worshiped. You meet with the people relaxing themselves there seeking forgiveness from God. I want to thank some of the governors who came, who examined the situation of some prisoners and granted them pardon through my intervention there. So, God used you in a way to even offer service. I tell you a story if you go into my own book. Every Sunday, there was this section, Ololade was in charge. During service, anytime it was time for praise and worship, he was always in the front dancing. You see him internally full of joy dancing and it was like the spirit of God was all over him. So one day, as he finished the service, I called him. I said where do you come from? He said Ondo State. What did you do? He said he’s been there for 28th years. On the death row. So everyday when he hears call from the warder, he thinks that it is time for him. So every Sunday, he will come to worship and thank God. You could see his appreciation of the Almighty God. What did he do? He said he was a hunter. When hunting one night, he shot, it was an antelope and by the time he went there, it was a human being that he shot. It was also in prison they removed one of his eyes. Why will he not be grateful to God? The Governor of Ondo State, Agagu, Oyinlola, Akala came they gave him amnesty, he couldn’t even find the way to his house, so the governor had to send car to pick him. When you see that kind of experience and you get back to the high mountain, you’ll remember those good people down below. That was a real privileged for me to be true. When the trial was going on, what was going on in your mind? I remember I was in Abuja then, when EFCC under Ribadu began investigation, after they submitted the report, President Obasanjo directed that they should go and re-investigate. When all these things were going on, and granting your pivotal roll In whe PDP especially in the Southern West, considering president Obasanjo, what was going on in your mind? I don’t know, I swear to God Almighty, I don’t know. Do you know where the tide was going? I never, until EFCC stormed my house in Abuja to arrest me. I didn’t know what was going on. Do you know they were investigating you? I know they were investigating. They came back and said it was a system problem. I knew very little about it. Why would they ask me? As part time chairman I didn’t even know how many bank accounts they had, I don’t even know who sign the cheque. It was just for you to direct their affairs during the board meeting. I don’t even know all their contractors. I thank God one thing came out by Justice Oyewole the young man. I remember Papa Awolowo judgment in the court. I shook my head. What is all this hullabaloo? My interpretation when he said the court sentenced me. The court said it was misdemeanor. Now, there was no penalty, no option of bail. But one thing came out of it, that nobody, none of those sentenced benefited financially from the said fraud. At least God will look at this and forgive them. I said this at the court, so why these pundits are now shouting corruption, corruption. If you did not benefit financially from them where is the stolen money? My brother, I want to stop this whole thing now because we are still going to have so much. I just want Nigerians to have a deep breath, look at what is prudent. The same group, these cabals! They are the same cabal, their media people and their spokes persons are the same people who have been orchestrating it. But I pay that Almighty God will let them get to my age, because he is awesome God and He will work his wonders. All my faculties are even more razor-sharp than even when I went to university. When this trial started, Obviously, some people rejoiced, they said ‘Olorun mu’, you know, they felt you are being paid for the conquest of the South-west. In 2003, how do you respond to that? Everybody will have their opinion. If members of the cabal that organized and orchestrated my ordeals are thinking that this man must be punished, they are not God. Judge not so that you shall not be judged. Even God the Almighty says in Proverb 25:15 if you did something that is bad to human being, it is God that will judge. How would you react to Obasanjo comment that he was tricked into coming to your reception and that PDP should distance itself from you? I didn’t know about that and I didn’t think he said that. Obasanjo was at the reception. It is the same cabal that is saying all this nonsense. We were at the rally together. You saw Baba, and Baba came to the rally. What about millions of others that came? Were they also tricked to come to the church? They want to create friction between Obasanjo and I. (Obj’s statement was not yet public when George spoke) Are you bitter about the whole saga? No, I said it that day, why would I be bitter? When I saw the crowd? You know that was the people’s verdict. The voice of other political party is a tribal party and we are going to move away from the Nobody is going to take me away from PDP. It was by providence that PDP came up. Remember immediately after Abacha’s death, there was formation of G19 and it metamorphosized into political party. For the first time, North, South, West communicating without hindrance. The only party that gave a man from the minority South-South to have a shot at the presidency. Wouldn’t you like to be in tune with the party rather than the type being run like a private company, by people who have no believe in democracy? Listen to Bisi Akande, what they said in their convention that they do selection, if you don’t like their party, get out. They don’t believe in primaries. Where in the world would you say you don’t believe in primary? You see, this people are fake. They don’t believe in democracy. And if we want to move from party of perfidy to a civilized party, like what is practiced in civilized countries, then we must move away from the party of Tinubu to his wife, daughter, family, his in-law. What are they doing? Is it now familyotrocracy? No, let them go. Those who left haven’t they come back? They went there and they drove them. Let them go to the other political party and find out what they do there. It is one man sitting there. Emperor little, emperor without a gown, cap. Emperor Bourdillon. He is distributing, moving people from Ebute-Meta, to Ikorodu, to Yaba, is that what we call democracy Nigerians must know what is happening. Those who are falsifying and misinforming the public, if they fear the Almighty God, have to be careful because the prayer of the common people, those people who are being hounded, will get to God. Okada men are being maltreated. You are not a limitary governor. Even those of you who serve under military government never do those to your fellow Nigerian. The time for those people to have their ballot. The electorate are the employers of those people. Let us tell the people the truth. Bode George is not contesting for governor, senate, but I believe in the cause of this party. I will work and fight for this party. We’ll educate the public that the party to follow is the party that is truly Nigeria. All other party is tribalistic. How many other states have they been to? That is my take on the issue. |
You called of us supporting tinubu agberos(rascals) even when you know that word is the exclusive preserve of gej and it was patented for use for ACN yoruba leaders/acn governors! That is completely unladylike.I am not a governor! You harsh oh! Sticking with issues? The issue is still the ungodly attempt to demonise Tinubu!People fighting Tinubu by proxy!my word of admonition is to releive their consciense of the denila that someone didnt warn them from destroying someone else's name when their name gets destroyed in the future. Interpol work?I concede that I am not an authority in interpol operations. But,wait,if recent events are anything to go by,then the speed with which NDLEA and efcc are collaborating to get ibori(when he sneaked to dubai),Aret adams case,Alams,Nigerian drug/credit card scammers in US, etc.I am aware that important cases such as alleged Tinubu's crime would not take forever(you seem to create that excuse to justify that the whole episode is not a smear campaign). I still insist that since you are the ones alleging Tinubu of crime, pls provide us or possibly the pdp,anti-corruption NGOs or relevant security agencies like efcc, ndlea etc with proofs.if you can not do that, then you can not prove ur allegations. His record remain secret? You mean this guy does not have a file anywhere or ALL is records are missing? Now,that is not possible.Let us start from his international passport alone, you will get info, let alone his records in MOBIL,Nigerian senate,INEC etc.You can't mean all these agencies dont have his records. I am wailing all over the place?Yes,even Jesus Christ and Elijah wailed in the bibile when people set on the path of destruction failed to heed thier divine warning to turn a new leaf. Now you and your guys are destroying someone;s name,I kept reminding you but you insist on going ahead and I wail because that is not the rightway to go. Everyone here has investigated Tinubu's relations? :oThat is a new untruth oh!When and where is the report of your investigation?Or you stayed in Chicago and did the investigation? It appears you are still hanging to a lose rope to hang tinubu and his family.Pls be careful how you run people down.I was never in Chicago throughout Tinubu or fashola's tenure and I can tell you that those two guys would compete with any successful leader anywhere in the world! Is Tinubu relative not competent to run for office?I can not recall you or the OP saying so.That Tinubu and his relatives are the best in lagos?Absolutely not! They only appear well positioned to be more reliable, experienced and trusted to face/neutralise the political mischeif of pdp in Lagos.Imagine,Chief Salvador, the pdp candidate contesting against Remi Tinubu was one of the reception party for bode george and the one that most brazenly lied to Nigerians that Bode George is a political prisoner!(see punch of Last week 28 feb.).Now,is this the credible alternative.Pls,lets be careful about how we run people down. |
@ 9IJAMAN,point of correction.I dont use unprintable words on people, let alone an oldman like Dr Olusola Saraki. As a matter of fact,I will provide as much avenue to debate the appropriateness of any political decisions.Do you mean that the fact that Bukola Saraki is a scion of the saraki family, his right to office he's sufficiently qualified be denied him?I dont think that is fair,I would rather prefer his opponent to provide fundamental reasons why my vote should not go for him!I will never be swayed by the fact that he is saraki's son alone! Recent event in kwara has even confirmed that the fact that you have your son there does not mean you will always have your way!Bukola opposed his father's choice for his successor and now his sister is contesting on another platform. If one is faced with such situation, the appropriate thing is to go for the one you consider the most competent. Now to tinuvbu,if his relation are not competent or not qualified(which is not the case in this instance),Lagos wont vote them! Now to take you on the specifics,Remi Tinubu is eminently qualified to be in the senate, this woman is brilliant, humble and progressive.Aside,is it not the popular saying that behind every successful man is an equally successful woman.Cheif Salvedor, the pdp candidate contesting against Remi Tinubu was one of the reception party for bode george and the one that most brazenly lied to Nigerians that Bode George is a political prisoner!(see punch of Last week 28 feb.).Now,is this the credible alternative.Pls,lets be careful about how we run people down. N:B.@ seanett.Amin oh.And God bless you too. |
head or tail, they win! |
@ kobojunkie, you are definitely enlightened and clearly your expectation will be largely, though rightly, influenced by the american environment. In america, libel is a serious case and the cloak of online identity can be removed and then have your day in court.Unfortunately that is not the case in Nigeria!Imagine the oriental hotel case and many other unsubstantiated allegations just against this man(haba!) If tinubu has a CASE in america, for God sake, there is something called interpol and I know his political opponents are sufficiently connected to get this in our newspapers without any fear of libel, these people did not even wait for Alams(ex-bayelsa state governor) to finish his term before sending him to jail!Since then, there has been the Igbinedion, ibori,Ladoja,Nnamani etc and NOT YET their much despised arch-enemy?Definitely,its either this Tinubu is too smart for them(even the interpol?) or there is no case against him! I am not the one to provide proof for anybody to defend Tinubu. He that alleges MUST prove, that is a simple rule in law.And if Tinubu had spent all his time defending all the allegations against him, what time would left to make important political decisions that resulted into his political rise.Methinks, these allegations set to acheive only one thing, lets demonise him!And once a lie(now tonnes of lies) is said a lot of times,it soon appears like the truth! giving political chances or tickets to your family members is huge political risk in nigerian politics, infact,I pity him and I admire his courage putting his family in the political arena! Now the question should ve been:Are his members qualified for the post?I think that should be investigated if the opposition is serious. But judging by the calibre of highly intelligent people tinubu sorrounds himself with and the past political endorsement he has given people who are not his family members like Fashola,Oshiomhole,Fayemi,Aregbe etc,I wont be surprised if these his relations fit my expectation.Maybe,if i were Tinubu,I would not put all my family in the battle front but that's tinubu, the LION HEART. |
kai! see people who are not on ground making theoretical assumptions about my Lagos! In Lagos nay southwest, voting is done en bloc!just like the north!.Gej is aware of this, that explains pdp desperation.Nobody has time to vote x for gov and y for president! You are given 2 ballot papers, people just jeun s'oke!Fashola solicited that people should vote for a president he can work it!That is the masterstroke, the person that will lose votes in Lagos is gej not ACN!Even the igbos he is counting on in Lagos would not vote him!A few of them would rather vote acn GOING BY THE MONUMENTAL FAILURE OF THEIR PDP GOVERNORS IN THE SOUTH EAST!Do people even know the cpc gubernatorial candidate in Lagos @ all.Lagos support for Fashola is total.Remember, most yoruba will vote ACN.The vulcanisers are informed,on election day,you will c dem, they will vote for where the broom is,mind you,ACN and it's broom sign is up there on the ballot paper! |
It beats my imagination when I see educated people who should be the repository of modern knowledge display crass ineptitude and intellectual atrophy. What hope do we offer the uneducated man who looks up to us to provide answers to the problems of this civilisation!A group of spoilers sat down and agreed that the best way to bring down Bola Ahmed Tinubu(arguably but unabashedly my political mentor) is to demonise him with so many unsubstantiated atrocious allegation in the hope that the undiscerning would fall for it!They will fail,I have come to the conclusion that 1.These people HATE TINUBU and his political beliefs. 2.These people can not match Tinubu intellectually. 3.These people always fight Tinubu by proxy. 4.These people spend heavily to neutralise him. 5.These people are the political heavyweights. 6.These people will never give up. 7.These people have consistently tried to penetrate his political rank. 8.These people set traps for tinubu all the time. 9.These people wish they have the leadership qualities Tinubu have 10.These people are mostly in the ruling party(PDP)! YET THESE PEOPLE NEVER SUCCEED.DEFINITELY,WITH THE AMOUNT OF HATRED THEY HAVE FOR TINUBU,IF THEY HAVE A SHRED OF INCONTROVERTIBLE EVIDENCE AGAINST HIM,HE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN JAIL! I PRAY GOD WILL BLESS,PROTECT AND PROMOTE HIM AND HIS FAMILY IN JESUS NAME(AMEN).ALL HIS ENEMIES SHALL LIVE TO WITNESS THE LORD'S MANIFOLD BLESSINGS ON HIS LIFE AND EVERYONE OF THEM,WHETHER ONLINE OR OFFLINE,GOD WILL REWARD THEM ACCORDING TO THE WORKS OF THEIR HANDS,AS THEY SET FORTH TO DESTROY ANOTHER MAN SO SHALL THEIR NAME BE DESTROYED AS WELL UNLESS THEY CHANGE. We must stand up and resist these spoilers by demanding for the proof of any allegation they raise against this man Tinubu. We must continue to use our good conscience to question and scrutinise their motif until they provide us with valid proof of all these spurious allegations.GOD BLESS MY COUNTRY NIGERIA! |
I love the fact that NUHU RIBADU AND FOLA ADEOLA represent vision, competence and integrity in digital form. They would likely serve us for a long time by God's grace. |

@ pharaoh,it must either be you are not currently aware of the inroads ACN has made in other regions or you are being mischeivious. It's called the broom rrevolution. The last ACN presidential rally held in Benue and it was awesome.Prof Steve and Young Alhaji(the man who defeated David Mark in the last election and Obasanjo AND PDP HAD TO ROB BECOS dAVID mARK was annointed by Obj to be Senate President) were presented and the last time I checked,Benue is in North central,Edo is already ACN,Rivers is Dr. Aiye Sekibo,Imo has Senator Ifeanyi Ararume who if not frustrated by obj should be in saddle in imo,ACN is one of the major parties in almost all states of the federation and you call that regional!Just like all revolution,it must be initiated by someone but right now,the party has established itself as the major opposition party in Nigeria! |
AND THIS! As the countdown to April poll approaches, Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State yesterday warned President Goodluck Jonathan that some Abuja-based stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are plotting protest votes in the state. He accused the PDP leaders of romancing the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). |
e ti rin kankan sir/ma,a si m'eye bo lapo(you ve not seen nothing yet sir/ma,we are just bringing eye from apo). RIBADU-ADEOLA FOR INTEGRITY,VISION AND COMPETENCE IN DIGITAL FORM! In Lagos,ACN all the way, where were you when pdp was messing up Lagos and Nigeria. |

RIBADU'S RUNNING MATE IS THE GREAT FOLA ADEOLA(the founding MD/CEO of GT Bank Plc)!PDP WILL FAIL,RIBADU WILL SUCCEED! GUYS,PLS READ THIS THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State yesterday suffered a setback as three of its serving members in the state House of Assembly defected to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). They are Mrs. Esther Ayomobi (Yakurr 2) and Mr. Obo Nkpanam of Biase State constituency. The third person is yet to complete his decamping formalities with the party. The Guardian gathered that the dumping of the PDP by the trio may not be unconnected with their failure to pick the PDP’s ticket to contest the 2011 elections in their various constituencies. At a briefing with some newsmen yesterday, the state Chairman of ACN, Mr Cletus Obun said: “We also want to inform you, with some modicum of chest beating, that what is good for the goose is also good for the gander. And that is to say that here we have three letters signed by three sitting members of the House of Assembly. These letters were written to the state chairman, it was also written to the speaker, and to the ward chairman of the defective members of the house of assembly. The letter is acknowledged. |
ribadu all the way! integrity, vision and competence in digital form! |
@ becomricher.point of correction:Atiku defeated yardua hands down in Lagos at the last presidential poll.Eyi ohun k'awi t'oluwa lase.Ribadu will defeat Gej,even buhari will.Things are changing fast. The poor performance of yardua/gej and pdp,the gaffe on SW governors and ill conceived bode george reception and a sundry of atrocities for the past 12yrs by pdp provided the opposition with campaign tools that they are maximising. The popularity of pdp is dimming everday.Gej should promote himself more than pdp but now it appears a little too late.Nigerians, more than ever, are now aware that pdp can be defeated, this was not the case in previous elections! |
