you are so so horrible with facts!!This thread is strictly for people with facts. If the S/west has the lowest literacy level in the south, then JAMB listing almost all the south-south states except edo and delta for all these donkey years as educationally disadvantaged areas must have escaped your education! The current data frm JAMB 2011 result would also help you. Now,if I take on ur Bayelsa, walahi,I will start shedding tears for what ignorance and low education had inflicted on bayelsa, rivers et al!I was there on service and even as at 2001 when Alams was Governor, secondary school fees was #250 yet most pupils could not afford it.

[s]Now back to the topic, pls tell me if you know zik's acheivement[/s] infact forget about it,you are so poor in getting facts.I can never ever rely on any info from you!

^^^in fact cms, kings college, queens college, igbobi college, hopewaddel school calabar, barewa college, all the old primary and secondary schools in the east were all free to the extent that zik said free education cannot work but had a change in mind later on to declare free education in the east. grin grin grin

Education had never been free until awo risked it in the old west!stop lying, haba! shocked shocked

the igbo propaganda gene is legendary!!

ojukwu used mouth to kill all fed soldiers, kept lying to unsuspecting biafran soldiers that biafran soldiers were in Lagos whereas the whole of igboland has been vanquished by black scorpion!!

This is not a tribalism campaign,my igbo brothers!
We are just tryn to fill what I otherwise thought was missing in the profile of Zik but from the response so far, quite sadly, zik was just a flamboyant non-performing premier of the old eastern region and president of nigeria! The overhyped larger-than-life image of zik could not stand close scrutiny wen assessed in terms of performance that the eastern region nay nigeria required in that early life of nationhood.
Now imagine if Awo and zik's other peers did not perform, perhaps all the 'firsts' in africa including 1st nobel prize winner may not have been possible.

The lesson to us as individuals is that posterity would always judge you especially if you hold elected position and misappropriate your priority just like zik did.Zik played to the gallery, the igbos know this especially those privileged to see the acheivements of awo.

Awo had ideology-he was a socialist, zik was neither capitalist nor socialist.
Awo was an intellectual and very deep thinker,he wrote a lot on the nigerian development and almost all he wrote many years ago are still relevant to address almost all our problems papa had envisaged.Pa Awo had spoke about our problems and the solutions years ago!Imagine, the now-celebrated Rochas Okorocha is practically implementing the programs of Awo's Action Group of free education over 50years Awo wrote, planned and implemented it!
This is another major failing of Zik,he was lazy NOT unintelligent and relishes the glamour of political grandeur while he should be working. He wasted many useful time on propaganda. Most intelligent Igbos know Zik did not perform and even while Zik was alive, his word was taking with a pinch of salt.As for Ojukwu's leadership, that was a disaster,a very intelligent Ojukwu saw that zik was a weak leader,he moved in even though he knows he would have loved to follow zik!
PoliticsRe: What Are Zik's Acheivement That Made Him Pro-nigeria And Not Pro-igbo? by volasunkan(op): 12:22am On Aug 10, 2011
If very knowledgeable igbo boys and girls of igbo origin are finding it extremely difficult to point to any significant acheivement or developmental policy/infrastructure/ideology of Great Zik of Africa, then there is a serious problem!
The very intelligent current generation of Nigerians and next(my children, your children) would never tolerate this historical lacuna, they will come to a sad conclusion that the igbos' disregard of Zik(both in life and death) was well deserved by him. That the Zik,just as was recently written by Orji Uzor Kalu,Zik did not prepare the igbos for nigeria unlike his peers!

If your contributions so far is anything to go by,Zik was just collecting salary both as Premier of eastern region and nigerian president for doing nothing. That is political corruption
until you guys provide facts and evidences to the contrary!
PoliticsRe: What Are Zik's Acheivement That Made Him Pro-nigeria And Not Pro-igbo? by volasunkan(op): 2:13am On Aug 08, 2011
@ roadstar,
NCNC was an offshoot of the political party originally formed by Herbert Macaulay who formed the 1st political party the country ever had.And this was not even done when he became the premier or president!!And If forming political party is an achievement, then Abacha is great for forming 5 political parties!!
Even a kindergaten kid knows Zik of Africa is the first nigerian president,I really dont expect you to struggle to find his acheivement and lease if you dont have any information on his acheivement, pls research or ask your igbo elders maybe they know what we dont know, till you do that, pls dont derail the topic so people with the info can contribute.

you went completely offmark by bringing Awo to compare to Zik,I dont think it is fair to compare Awo to Zik for as long as you are still struggling to find his acheivement or it will be interpreted that it is out of envy and jealousy that the igbos who wished they had an Awo are unnecessarily antagonistic of the yorubas. The country and posterity beckons on you to inform and educate us on zik's acheivement as nigerian president, not before or after he became president, please

@ OP,pls let ur brother get enough FACTS before he dare venture to marry an igbo chic!Infact,I pity the guy if he MISSES THE ROAD!
I was shaking when I got what happened to two of my igbo christian brothers,as I am typing this, their fingers and their money got burnt because according to the igbo tradition, they missed road.I enquired what that means and they said, its a bit complex, each had spent close to half a million naira yet they have not been handed their wife! shocked shocked shocked.
Reason, they went to visit their would-be inlaw from Lagos andinadvertently expressed their willingness to do everything once so they can return to Lagos with their wife. The fiancee family jumped to conclusion that the guy is rich and after requesting he provides some drinks and items which are part of those things requested for marriage rites, they took all, finished it all and told him he has just missed road! shocked shocked. They request he should come another time to collect list and he should come along with some goodies again!!
Now,where is the main lesson? One of them returned to Lagos and quit the relationship and currently in serious financial disaster that eventually got him disfellowshiped 3weeks ago while the other went ahead to impregnate the lady(from what I learnt later,it is cheaper when the woman is pregnant before marriage rites!) and would be disfellowshiped by next sunday! sad sad sad

Now,I compared their experience to what I had to face when I married my wife and I must admit,my in-laws didnt stress me at all,as a matter of fact and tradition, they actually returned my brideprice and told me publicly that the reason they are giving me their daughter is simply because their daughter told them she loves me and the day their daughter says something otherwise, they would come and take her without any hassles afterall, they did not take any bride price from me!

Marriage in igboland, like typical igbo thing,IS BUSINESS!la oju e ki o ma lo palori!!put GOD FIRST!

I am really surprised at the attitude of some of my highly cerebral brothers from the east.I am usually uncomfortable when I dont have fact on things,I actually wanted information on specific acheivements of ZIK of Africa afterall,he was collecting salary as a president and PREMIER!And to such a simple innocous request,my brothers went on ala al-almustapha(OMG!).

Could it actually be hard to find specific acheivement(s) of both ZIK (and Ojukwu according to Ileke-Idi)?

definitely,I beleive my igbo brothers have or know something we all dont know.pls educate us,and maybe we could find a reason or otherwise why Zik's resting place is undignified

PoliticsWhat Are Zik's Acheivement That Made Him Pro-nigeria And Not Pro-igbo? by volasunkan(op): 1:23am On Aug 07, 2011
I was just wondering how come Zik was being labelled pro-Nigeria when in specific terms,I cant seem to place any particular acheivement(s) of Zik that qualify him for it as I cant single out a particularly significant thing he did as Nigeria's 1st president, rather methinks,in terms of acheivement,he did more as eastern premier than being nigerian ceremonial president!so Zik in practical terms did more for ndigbo than for Nigeria so ndigbo should apreciate him even more than Ojukwu who rather than build on the acheivement of zik destroyed all in the name of seeking secession for ndigbo by violent means,
zik is more of an igbo leader than a nigerian leader, that most igbos think otherwise cant change anything. huh huh
PoliticsRe: Awoism: Worship Of The People As The Gods Of A Nation by volasunkan: 11:11pm On Aug 06, 2011
Omoyele Sowore,Gani and Awo(its just coincidental they are S/westerners) have shown us how.

Sowore has proven that the leaders fear being exosed so he has popularised citizen journalism. We must continue to expose their shady deals!.We expose even their children, wives etc who are usually the major beneficiary of the stolen wealth. So,if they are your friends, relative, neighbours, clients etc,EXPOSE THEM!

Gani has used the instrumentality of the Law and personal activism/crusade to expand the frontiers of human liberty in Nigeria.Incidentally, you dont need to be a lawyer to do this(eg Beko,Ken Saro-Wiwa,Shehu Musa,Wole Soyinka,Tinubu etc),the issue of The NEPA act,Local Govt Law,party Registration Act,FOI Act,Rent Edict etc got reviewed/enacted as a result of sustained activism.Other areas we still need review are the stone-age 1953 Railway Act that present states, private investors from investing in Railway business, the Power Act which still places transmission act monopoly with FG,the Minerals/natural resources act which places oil/mineral acts with FG,the Land Use Act which makes it mandatory to obtain governors consent to confirm you own ur property! etc

Awo for advancing the need to provide free qualitative education and health to the people. His preference for agricultural development over-industrialisation and his motto of making life more abundant to the people. We must support our children, family etc  to get quality education.

Tambuwal should pls be fair to his conscience and God,it was not the foreign nations that adviced them to steal and oppose healthy reforms that can develop Nigeria. It is his failure to oppose the heavy bills paid to fund a lowly productive central govt, corruption and continious rape by ignorance, unemployment and offensive opulence and obscene lifestyles of a corrupt elite he belongs to.They have sown to the wind, the revolution wont stop or they stop raping Nigeria!Imagine a country that spends about 80% of her annual budget to pay salaries for just 120000 federal civil servant who return even the paltry 15% budgetary allocations for capital development as unspent funds! This is the real thing abeg leave western owers.Cuba is still standing today even after decades of opposing western ideas so western suport is not the sine qua non for development!

@ pafuri,i think it's much convenient to say unsubstantiated evil allegations against Bola Ige and his Funsho daughter (author of 'He Gave me Wings) simply cos your value could validate and justify running people down. The Yoruba say 'abanije eniyan ti on ba eniyan je kiri, ojo ti o ba ti pinu lati b'anije,ni a o ba oje o.)If you run people down, you will be run down as well!Law of Karma!
Bola Ige's children are not only well trained, they are above board in conduct, character and yoruba omoluabi. They are good children, successful yet humble and private!
That al-Mustapha could not mention at least ONE LIVING YORUBA LEADER to have benefited from the Abdulsalami's largesse is a fundamental flaw in public domain, the most of Yoruba(I was at a pressstand this evening) view him to be a fool and paid agent of the northern oligarchy who robbed and killed our MKO.sADLY,HE IS IN TROUBLE!He would be sued by the children of these people he alleged wrongly.
very soon,he will tell the whole world that it was HERBERT MACAULAY that collected the money. He should stop deluding himself, the document was a decoy by the corrupt Abdulsalami to siphon money, the money never left Aso Rock,Abdulsalami and his gang probably shared the money! EFCC should arrest and prosecute Abdulsalami and the CBN officials at that time  to get to the root of the stolen money.

Robbers cart away antiretroviral drugs in Benin

BY JETHRO IBILEKE

printemail

Regular and uninterrupted supply of antiretroviral drugs to people living with HIV/AIDS in Edo State is now under threat following an attack on the warehouse of the state ministry of health by persons suspected to be armed robbers who broke into the stores over the weekend and carted away with the medical supplies worth millions of naira.

The robbery attack on the warehouse, located on Medical Stores Road, Uselu, Benin City, left one of the two security guards on duty dead.

The security guard, whose name and identity could not be ascertained at the time of going to press, was said to have been killed for not cooperating with the robbers.

The permanent secretary in the ministry of health, Peter Ugbodaga, during his on-the-spot assessment visit to the stores in the company of other directors in the ministry to ascertain the extent of the robbery, condemned the incident, especially the killing of one of the security guards on duty. He expressed his displeasure over the robbery attack.

In a telephone interview with NEXT, Mr Ugbodaga said the state government had only recently embarked on the renovation of the warehouse in batches.

He charged the police authorities to “carry out a thorough investigation into the robbery attack because someone who did not know the place in and out could not have gone there to steal.” Mr Ugbodaga thereafter directed the Chief Store Officer to take inventory of the stocks left in the store so as to ascertain exactly what was stolen.

Loss of value

Investigations by NEXT revealed that the medical warehouse is an extension of Edo Pharmaceutical Company constructed by the military administration of Samuel Ogbemudia in 1972.

According to Godwin Erahon, who served on the board of directors between 1992 and 1993, at its peak, the company produced pharmaceutical products, cotton wool and drips at the Medical Store Road factory. Batteries were also produced at its Sapele Road factory.

The company was however privatised, with the exception of the warehouse, by the military government immediately after John Oyegun was removed from office. Mr Erahon alleged that the warehouses were also vandalised during the administration of former governor, Lucky Igbinedion.

The robbery incident has since been reported at the Okhoro police station. However, the Edo State police command spokesperson, Peter Ogboi, could not be reached by phone for comments on the robbery incident.

Mohammed Manga moments before he embarked on a suicidal trip

By Ahmad Salkida Maiduguri

The man who bombed the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja on June 16 was a fairly well-to-do businessman who was actually on a suicide mission on behalf of the Islamic sect the Boko Haram, Blueprint can authoritatively report.

Mohammed Manga was a 35-year-old married man with five children who drove overnight from Maiduguri to Abuja in order to carry out the morning attack which left about five people dead, including a police officer, and many cars incinerated in the blast. He had left N4 million in his will for his five children – two girls and three boys – before embarking on the fateful journey to the nation’s capital.

There was proof also that Manga was accompanied on the deadly mission by at least a collaborator in the plot, who took his last photograph alive as he drove through the streets of Abuja. The collaborator(s) might have disembarked from the car before Manga reached the Louis Edet House headquarters of the Nigerian Police.

Blueprint can also authoritatively report that, contrary to a claim by the police authorities that the bomber had used a Mercedez Benz ‘V Boot’ car in his terror mission, he actually used a Honda 86 model.

These shocking details and others were made exclusively available to this newspaper by the leadership of the Islamist sect, Jama’atu Ahl-Sunnati Lil Da’awati wal Jihad, popularly called the Boko Haram, in a telephone interview in the Hausa language, fielded by the group’s spokesman who goes by the name Abu Zaid.

The group also e-mailed to our Borno State correspondent startling photographs of a grinning Manga as he undertook the revenge mission. It was the first time it was giving a glimpse into its operations. One of the most startling information given by Abu Zaid was that the attacker was one Mohammed Manga, who was better known and addressed by his friends and business associates as Alhaji Manga.“He is originally from Adamawa State but he was born and brought up in Maiduguri, where he embraced the teachings of the late Mohammed Yusuf,” the spokesman said.

Mohammed Yusuf was the leader of the group and was killed by the police in 2009 following the bloodiest clash involving the Boko Haram in which thousands of the sect’s members and other people died.Blueprint was also told by the sect that Manga was Fulani by tribe and that he started both as a commercial and private driver at different times in his adult life. A few years before the July 2009 Boko Haram uprising, Manga began to travel to Cotonou in Benin Republic and later Dubai frequently in order to buy all kinds of goods. He was a major contributor to the Boko Haram’s arms build-up.

Abu Zaid also confided in this newspaper that Manga left a will of over N4 million to his two daughters and three sons and urged fellow believers to sacrifice their lives for the sake of Allah. This, the group said, is evident in the last-minute pictures of Manga, believed to have been taken at a camp somewhere in Borno State. The man’s last will and the photographs are proof that Manga was on a suicide mission and that his death at the Louis Edet House headquarters of the police was not an accident.

“He was calm and never hesitated or showed fear,” Abu Zaid recalled, adding that everyone at the scene that night on the eve of the attack was envious, wishing it was their chance to act and gain entry into paradise.

According to him, the planning of the attack targeting the Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Hafiz Ringim, was not in any way different from the way and manner they plan other attacks around the country, insisting that the only difference was that this mission was abruptly brought closer in response to the remarks made by Ringim that he would eradicate the Boko Haram within weeks. The IGP had on June 15 boasted, while receiving10 armoured personnel carriers donated to the police by the Borno State government, that the Boko Haram’s days were numbered.

“Now that the (general) elections are over, our attention would be concentrated and I want to assure you that the days of the Boko Haram are numbered,” Ringim had told a gathering at the Government House in Maiduguri, with the state governor Kashim Shettima present.

Abu Zaid also claimed that the bomb his group used in the attack was a ready-made one, which the sect acquired from abroad. “And we are going to use several of them in future attacks,” he warned. The group dismissed media reports and commentaries that suggest it might not have planned a suicide attack but that the bomb blast was merely an accident in which the attacker was trapped, insisting that it was really pre-planned.“Everyone had waited patiently for the outcome of that operation,” said Abu Zaid.

According to him, the car that was used was not a Mercedes Benz ‘V-Boot’, but an ash-colour Honda 86 model.“I was surprised when the police said the car was a Mercedes ‘V-Boot’,” he said. “It was never a Mercedes. The car used for the attack was an ash-colour Honda 86. We are surprised over the way the police are confused anytime we strike.”

Meanwhile, the group has discredited the conditions for dialogue ostensibly given by the Boko Haram by one Usman Al-Zawahiri and others, challenging them to give a single proof that they are with the authentic group.
“We don’t know Al-Zawahiri; he is not with us,” Abu Zaid said.

“In fact, our investigation revealed that he is an SSS (State Security Service operative) and was brought in to discredit what we are doing and give an impression that we are divided. There is no faction in our group.”

Giving a reason why the Boko Haram chose Blueprint correspondent for breaking the news, Abu Zaid remarked: “You were the first journalist who repeatedly wrote about us when we were not known to the world; you were the first journalist who reported when our brothers were shot at on their way to a funeral procession by members of a security outfit setup by the Borno State government, known as ‘Operation Flush.’ We see you as an objective writer who is never afraid to say the truth; that is why our leader approved the idea to give you the final evidence that we were solely behind the suicide attack at the police headquarters.”

The Boko Haram is believed to be headed by one Malam Abubakar Shekau, the deputy of the late Mohammed Yusuf.
