Career › Re: All You Need To Know About Going For Nigerian Navy DSSC [personal Experience] by VoltageDivida(m): 9:13am On Dec 23, 2019 |
csteve: If you wish to join the Nigerian Navy through the Direct short service commission, here are few things I wish to let you know from my personal experience.
Last year 2017, I applied for Dssc course 25 towards the end of my NYSC and from my state I was among the last 10 that made the final Interview, unfortunately I was not short listed on the final list. *painful shaa* *but I was satisfied I didn't even know I would go far*
The Mindset: Now you need to believe that you have a chance when applying.
Applying: To Apply, just get the form filled at www.joinnigeriannavy.com .. No special thing about filling the form, the referee doesn't matter. Anyone without criminal record is OK. Print Your form, it must not be coloured, don't waste your money.
Filling The Form: Fill all the required information in the form, get the police certification and L.G A certification. For the Guarantors form, don't waste your time waiting for the area commander to sign or a senior military officer, it doesn't matter, Any Civil servant upto level 16 in state service can sign it. A school principal can sign it.
After filling the form, photocopy it and keep, just in case of anything.
Preparing For The Exam: OK, to even go for the physical screening and further screening at lagos you need to pass the first exam.
you have to read current affairs, read as much as you can, know about recent political affairs around the world, just read current affairs generally.
Then For the maths and English, someone told me what to read and it worked like magic, I hope it works again. Get the latest or the latest two versions of GMAT and Read. Read it well well, in fact cram it!
Then pray that God see you through.
Going To the Exam: Just dress well, A Jean and polo is OK, Go early but be assured you won't start till its afternoon.
the exam will last maybe 1hr or less, obey their instructions. Go with writing materials.
They will verify your documents before the exam, if your result is less than 2:1(second class upper) don't waste your time going, they won't let you in.
When shading the answers, be as fast as you can.
GoodLuck
Next Stage! If you passed the exam, your name will be short listed in a list of 20-30 names per state, inviting you for further screening at lagos.
Congratulations!
Going For The Screening : Now you are closer! get ready to feel like you will get the job *lol*
In the short list on their website, you will see requirements, if possible buy the things you need before going, if you can't, don't worry much, everything is sold at the Gate there.
Go with your bed sheet, toiletries, cutlery and Money.
You will stay in students hostel, Go with a bag you can lock if possible.
Early Days: On arrival they will first get your data.
Followed by certificate and documents verification.
*Dont worry, the will feed you morning, Afternoon and Night, but it won't be your normal dose, but you can always buy more from sellers in the camp*
Intermediate days: After the verification comes medicals. During medicals, a lot of tests would be conducted, like sight, ECG, HIV, BP, X-ray, Pile, height, psychological test, dental, weight. etc.
during BP test, be calm so your BP won't rise above normal *lol*
before you go, loose weight so you won't be overweight.
Late Days: After medicals, many many people will go! during my time we reduced from 27 to 10.
If you are lucky to pass medicals, Congratulations! You are closer to the uniform *winks*
At this point food will start to be big during meals *Enjoy*lol
Get Ready For physical test and another exam!
Physical Test: You will run, 3.5 kilometres
They will say the time of return doesn't matter, don't kill yourself, but it matters! come back within 10minutes, 1st group, within 15minutes 2nd after that 3rd. All grouped differently with different marks
After the run, you will do push up and sit up immediately!
30 push up = 6marks (maximum point given)
anything less = 4 points
Same applies to sit ups.
Do as much as you can, but just know that points are recorded!
After the physical exercise comes another exam!
The exam: You will be asked to write essay on how you will improve navy with your skills. (this might change)
Read current affairs too, the English and maths won't be so hard like the 1st exam. also know about navy.
Congrats, it's time for Interview!
The interview : You will face a panel of about 15 officers, don't be intimidated, they are friendly.
They will ask you random questions, from current affairs to your field of study, it anything they like. just answer.
if you applied under education they might as you to write something on the white board.
Good luck
It's Time To Go!
They will give you all 9k for transport.
*I forgot, even if you failed medical, you will still get the money before leaving *
At least you can use it and drink beer, even if they don't employ you *hehehe*
Now Go Home and Pray!
The Truth: You have done your best but, this is the truth, this is why I didn't get job!
Who do you know?
Out of 10 of us that made final interview only one person was short listed along side two people from their special medical enlistment.
The slots are given to senators, Generals and top politicians, your chance is almost zero! Remember about 1000-3000 people apply per state and only 3 will be taken
If you have someone that can help you, go and seek the persons help.
this is more important than anything else. beg the person even before you go for the first exam, If the person has a slot, you might be helped!
What if you fail?
Enjoy the experience and move on!
You can ask me anything! Good Luck! Well done bro, this is the best write up I've seen on this forum explaining the screening process. It is very helpful as I Prepare for mine. I Pray I be among the chosen few (even if na only one person, make e be me) that make it to camp. AMEN! |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by VoltageDivida(m): 8:50am On Dec 23, 2019 |
Xbee007: I can only speak authoritatively on Nigerian Navy DSSC because I once made it to the final screening in Ojo where only 2 people were finally picked out of about 16 of us from my state.
During the recruitment application process, you will be asked to enter your class of result. First Class and Second Class Upper are strictly listed as the requirements for application. This means that people who entered anything lower than the requirements will be automatically screened out by the system.
Some people lied during the registration but they were outed at the scene of the first recruitment test. At Mogadishu Cantonment where I wrote mine, for example, people who haven't completed their NYSC, and people who falsified their results were screened out. They won't check your results but the threat alone is enough to put the fear of God in you. So people voluntarily came out and were sent back home.
The screening in Ojo, Lagos is the most rigorous of all. They will check all your results, FSLC, SSCE, HND, BSC etc. I think we spent a day two on that alone. So anything below the earlier stated requirements will be screened out. Even though at this stage, they won't immediately screened you out but you will be noted till the d-day. I think people that lied up to this stage were handed over to the police.
Now, there is a story of a lady that made it to this stage with a second class lower degree although she managed to fool the authority that she had a First Class. They called her Mama Kwara in camp then. People said when you see her you immediately knew she was going to make it to the final stage cos there were very few ladies with her prowess, and the NN needed ladies. To cut the long story short, she was outed while in training because the Nigerian Navy went to her alma mata and discovered she actually graduated with a 2:2 not the first class she had claimed.
But we all know the Nigerian factor. One of the two guys that were finally chosen, I swear his name didn't appear on the list. Although, he speaks my language but I still doubt he is even from my state. That is the power of knowing the right people in Nigeria.
TL;DR Unfortunately, you can't apply for DSSC with a lower credit. Good day boss! Please I will like to know more about the screening program (what you were tested on and how the test what done, and other details) so I can prepare adequately for mine this week. Thanks Boss! |
