The above chapter in the Bible brought the following thoughts and question into my mind.

I) Sarah was a little harsh on Hagar, so Hagar ran away from home.

II) An Angel of the Lord found Hagar on her runaway route, talked her into going back home and even told her about the child she carried in her womb. The Angel gave the child’s name as Ishmael.

Ishmael is amongst others (Isaac, Jesus, John the Baptist, Samson) in the Bible who had special births: an angel from God either announced their birth or gave their mothers instructions on the child they carried in their wombs.

Questions:   why do Christians not name their children Ishmael? is this Scripturally wrong, Christian-ly wrong or what exactly, or just for the fact that its associated with Islam? Who associated it with Islam, God or man?

I would understand, if Christians do not name their children Judas, but why not Ishmael?

I think the problem arises when there is a conflict of interest between mother and wife.

@ Gray Beard: I do not agree that a conflict of interest has to arise before a man finds himself in a situation where he needs to decide between his mother and wife. Check this scenario out. A man receives the news that his mother and wife were both involved in a motor accident. They were hospitalised in two different hospitals which are two miles away from him and they were both in a critical condition. Who do you think that the man should visit first?

Since I have read this story yesterday lots of questions has also crossed my mind like:

1) Where are the parents?
2) Did they give their consent that their child should follow the man to do the cleaning job?
3) Which reasonable foreigner will allow a 13 years old girl to go out alone not to talk of going out with a stranger in a typical Muslim country where the movement of women are restricted to some extent?
4) Female virginity is a very big issue in the Muslim world but the police nor the parents seems not to bother whether the girl was a virgin or not?
5) Is the girl really a victim of circumstance or she had a disagreement with one of her customer?

You can replace your wife as much as you like but not your Mother
So I would say Mother comes First Second and Third

You might not be able to replace your mother but your wife can give you love, care and affection just exactly like a good mother will do to his son, and moreover not all mothers are good mothers and not all wives are good wives. There are horrible and self centered ones depending oh how unlucky you are. If I were to choose I will surely choose my wife, not that I did not love my mother or vice versa but sometimes there is a space in the heart of man that a mother love can never occupied. Further more the Bible says in Genesis 2:24 - Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be two in one flesh. A man need to hold tight to his mother but needs to hold tighter to his wife. And mind you, you can not replace a good wife because there aren't much good ones out there.
