chaircover:
We need to address the problem and not indirectly say that Nigerians should remain in Nigeria
hackney:
All the countries of the world know that the Nigerian govt is just a bunch of useless idiots
who dont know what they are there for.
Nigeria in itself (believe it or not) is a caricature on the international scene.

As a result, countless nigerians are mistreated, slaughtered and punished unnecessarily
while the nigerian consulates there (full of village staff who know 'OGA') sit there and sells visas.

Nobody takes any nigerian govt official seriously (like a small child) because everybody knows he does not
know what he's doing and is there purely for the money only.

Otherwise why would Nigerians get executed willy-nilly in libya, launguish in jail in their thousands especially
in S.E asia till death, get shot in Poland and get attacked in public in Russia, china and eastern europe?

We dont have a respectable Govt yet so the execution will carry on.
Nigeria itself is just a bunch of people living together.
May be the people who are sensible enough to address the problem have all probably left the country hustling all around in different part of the world rather than contributing their own part to lift the country out of it's misery. Who knows,  if you would have remain in Nigeria, probably by now, you might have been undertaking something against the action of the Libyan government or be a Nigeria ambassador to Libya to prevent the execution of this Nigerians. So tell me how you you are going to fulfill your own obligations and patriotism to your country when you are 7000 kilometres away from it. What we need presently in Nigeria are people of action, motivation, a role model, more of governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (Lagos State governor) and Adams Oshiomhole ( Edo State governor), people who will turn the pressure of the people into pleasure. Encourage the Nigerians abroad to come back home and invest to improve the economy and the one at home to make better use of themselves and stop dreaming and waiting for manna to drop from heaven. It is nothing new that Nigeria leaders are corrupt, but what are we -the masses doing against it, some Western World faced similar problems in the past but they found a solution to it. Raji Fashola and Adams Oshiomhole would not have move a step forward in the histroy of the country by living abroad. So please people stop blaming and complaining and please start acting.

Very soon we Nigerians will gradually begin to understand that no matter what, home is best,
Thank you o-o-jare, my brother, a home is still home no matter what. Although i only knew this after being away from the country. Am aware of the good, the bad and the ugly in Nigeria, but that is where I was born and raised up, we all just have to find our way around the system to achieve whatever goals we are aiming at right there in our own country . If foreigners could succeed in reaching their goals in our country with bad economy, why can't we?

The New Kings of Nigeria

The Storyville documentary "The New Kings of Nigeria" on BBC 4 last night was a sore disappointment. It was hard to know what the thing was about. As the minutes ticked by, any hopes that a theme would emerge drained away. The focus was most of the time on the great grandson of King Jaja of Opobo, a young chap called Walter. Walter had just returned from an expensive education and a stint selling electrical appliances in Jand which he seemed proud of. He was now being shoed in to a role producing reality tv shows and music videos. He seemed to know little more than anyone else about his ancestor, resorting to the internet to find out pictures. It might have been nice to have had him return to Bonny and be greeted by the locals or provide some kind of context beyond interviewing his sister at the Boat Club.

However, the title of the doc suggested that there were other Kings who were going to be featured and that the story would extend beyond Lagos. Walter's story, as a repat living with his sister on the mainland, is hardly the typical elite case. The New Kings of Nigeria might then have focused on Nigerians returning to live in Lekki and working in either banking, telecoms or starting their own business. It might have dwelled on places such as Ikoyi Club and the Polo Club and their new members. It might then have asked the question of whether the diaspora was/is helping to develop Nigeria, at the same time as looking at the contrasts between lives back in the UK and new generator driven lives in Lagos. It might even have asked into the backgrounds of the elite and how many generations the privilege extends back. The theme might have developed into whether there is a two tier class system that has developed thanks to returnees lording it over the natives and to get perspectives from both sides.

We had none of this. Instead, we had endless headshots of Walter lolling about in the back of a chauffered car or in his room, extolling his undeveloped views in his public schoolboy brogue. We were treated to Walter's adolescent analysis of polygamy and poverty. The lighting was terrible; much of the time you couldn't really see his face. Clearly, the crew hadn't brought any basic lighting equipment with them. The lack of a narrator added to the general sense of helpless drift (you have to be bloody good to avoid a narratorial voice).

One was left thinking two thoughts in parallel: what kind of public schoolboy network ties to the Storyville's Series editor Nick Fraser had allowed this piece of amateurish tosh to get on the usually excellent BBC4? And: the film about the new colonialism of the Lagos elite has yet to be made. It was not a patch on Welcome to Lagos.

I've just spoken with a guy who wants to sell to me 25 dozens of used plastic chairs which is equivalent to 300 pieces of chairs, his price is N1,100.00 per chair, and 25 dozens will be equivalent to N330,000.00. I told the guy that his price per chair is close to the price of a new one, but he said there is room for negotiation. Can anyone please suggest to me how much a reasonable offer would be for this amount of used plastic chairs.

Very well. . . . . .People will tow a car for free in the UK.
The ones who cannot do it for free will rather not help and go their way.

Naija man will say. . . .Reh reh reh, i will help you to tow your car but as soon as they see you have a solid background, they start demanding for N3000 or N5000. What kinda nonsense is that?
People will tow a car for free in the UK huh  or you meant that they will stop and lend you their cell phone to call the AA?Wait a minute, when I said UK I meant United Kingdom and not United Arab Emirates.

But why would anyone charge N3000 to tow a car - something he was supposed to do out of favour?
Nigerians take the piss when they see the opportunity to make something out of it.

I agree with the sister. . . . .That motorist is a wretched fool!!!
If you cannot do a favour, then don't HELP. . . .
This is ridiculous. They are not friends nor family, how do you expect someone to do a favour with his only source of income, they must have agreed to a certain amout before towing the car. The man might probably have many mouths to feed and moreover, can anyone tow a car for free in the UK? You just don't call a person who provided a service a wretched fool in front of the camera.

sulad82i:
For all those asking that the state be merge with another state, can you point and give example of any joined states in the world? and also mark the the benefit and after effect of the joint?
What about the reunification of East and West Germany. The reunification has not only made life easier for the former East German but has also promoted the business growth of the nation as a whole. Although there is still a gap in the productivity between the two parts of the country which is due to the fact that the Eastern German economy still suffers from the effects of the socialist experiments, nevertheless the East Germany economy has continue to grow at a faster rate than in West Germany and compare to the time they were Socialist and before the reunification. As of now, the the reunited Germany marks a strong economy in the central Europe. If it could work with people with different political background, why would it not work with us. Why do we always need to rest our heads where everyone else rest their feet and our feet where everyone else rest their heads.

oluwabamis:
scrap my state?? beef u dont mean that do u?. the solution is flush pdp out of the place, or lets merge it with lagos and put it under BRF. they have proven that the leaders of that state need to learn management, lagos can help them out, QED

ode remo:
do you guys think running a state is like managing your private company where accounts a merged for consolidation?
why should state be merged,. for a minute i thought OGUN was so viable the IJEBUS cant wait to slide out of the state. merge ko , merge ni.
OGD, just go jejele.
huh

What is the benefit of running a state or creating states that are not economically strong, self dependent or have nothing to offer to it's citizen. If states could be created for a purpose, they could as well be merged together with prosperous states in the country (only if they are sharing border) for the benefit or well being of the people. Imagine how Nigeria would be if all other states Governors in Nigeria could follow the footsteps of Lagos State Governor - Babatunde Raji Fashola, Imagine how great the nation will be  if the slogan used in Lagos EKO ONI BAJE O (Lagos no go spoil) is used for the nation as a whole like NAIJA ONI BAJE O (Naija no go spoil o). Imagine how GREAT it would be if NIGERIANS stood up to hold those they call leaders accountable at all levels? Think about how we would not be scattered in every part of the western world looking for greener pasture and wishing MAGIC would happen, eventhough we are blessed with almost everything in our country  but instead MAKE SURE/FORCE all Governors do as good and even better than Fashola has been able to in Lagos. I believe that the creation of more states in Nigeria has only led to confusion and create more rooms for embezzlements and corruption. Like they say "too many cooks spoil the soup" I do not know how possible merging states in Nigeria politics is, but if this will be the solution to a better life of the people, why not?

go for it my dear

Connections huh   huh
Why? Can't that be replaced with a good publicity. There are 1001 ways of giving your company a good publicity in Nigeria, starting from the cheapest of all, mouth propaganda follow with a good customer's service, Leaflet distribution (use the BOYZ BRIGADE), distribute your business card at events, create a company Website for your biz, Nairaland, Nairalist,  You tube, facebook, advertise on your on personal vehicle or Company's vehicle, newspapers, magazines,  banners, Posters, radio, Placing advert in Yoruba & Nollywood Movies,  billboards, television e.t.c,

You only need to be focus, reliable and provide good customer's service which means at the beginning you will need to go extra miles to satisfy your customers and you must always have a PLAN B, when you are providing services. Once you could successfully provide good services for your first few customers, the rest goes automatically. I researched that it's a good business but I will advice anyone to do their home work properly before venturing into any business in Nigeria.

@scorpio - I think the dude you want to know is not OKEKE as Odeku said instead it's Teacher Ogene who was always on shorts with long socks pulled to his knees and a biro stuck in his bosom pocket, he was really an admirable character. Wow, this thread make me remember the good old 70's and early 80's.  Garuba was also another admirable character, the guy can speak very good queen's English.

Don't you think getting yourself a van to convey your chairs and tables and the canopies would be cheaper and stressless than cars. For cars, you will need drivers and you should expect a possibility of higher maintenance cost than a van, depending on the numbers of cars you are willing to invest in the business and all this will add up to your expense.
