anitank: Been trying to download this movie since forever but it keeps failing cos of my fluctuating network. Are there no apps for bb10 like Uc web that can resume download even if it fails?
the BB browser resumes downloads if it fails due to network flunctuation
PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by walcolm(op):
Denn: My dear BlackBerry 10 pals,

Now that BBM will be available on android, can someone please give me just one good reason why I should still keep my z10?

Here are my facts:
Android has more practical apps
BlackBerry does not have the edge with security again as there is no BIS security for BlackBerry 10. The only edge remains with BES and that's not for the everyday user.
Once we have headless apps that can run in the background on BlackBerry 10, it will be evident that malware and other Android plagues will hit the BlackBerry 10 too
The new Z30 has little to offer as compared to the new galaxy note.
Why the useless price drops on these BlackBerry 10 phones, I bought my Z10 above 100k, now this same phone is around 60k....same ish happened with the playbook. how much will I be able to sell this phone when I want to? I bought the first galaxy 10.1 at 110k and was able to sell it for 80k long after....can I say same for BlackBerry?

I need answers
the disparity in apps number has always been there as an edge for android and iOS platforms and I'm sure apps availability is not the reason you bought the z10..

of the 900k apps available on Google play store, I'm sure you can't install more than 200 at any one time. of those 200 you manage to install, you will probably use about 25 to any significant extent.

More than 400k android apps are games, another 300k probably useless e-books, guides and maps...the remaining are redundant apps that do essentially the same things. i.e. 50 notepad apps etc

The above does not take away from the fact that android and iOS platforms have more apps than BlackBerry but you can get all the basic apps you need to go through your day and have a wonderful mobile experience on the platform give and take a few important ones still missing

on the issue of second hand value, that is totally beyond the company and its just a matter of demand and supply. the price an item goes for in nigeria is a subject of another discussion because we don't have a consumer protection system and price control system....it has nothing to do with the quality of the hardware

just so you know, as a small example, the hardware on the Z10 and Q10 is similar in spec to even the newer Nokia 1020 that came out almost 4 months after the BB10 devices

at the end of the day, it boils down to choice...

btw, you are wrong on associating BIS/BES to security on BBs.....the security enjoyed by BB devices is not tied to the BIS/BES but to the OS itself.
PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by walcolm(op): 11:01am On Sep 18, 2013
For folks on 10.2 leaked OS, you'll be happy to know that the stand alone Evernote app now works once you update it from BlackBerry world grin

gykes: Has glo blocked the 1400 comonth plan?
that is why i used the phrase "to a certain extent"....if you are in lagos and abuja, you are not going to be able to use H+ data speed...you will only be able to browse when you set your network to 2G

so to answer your question, Glo has not blocked their BIS but its not fun for BB10 users in lagos and Abuja and its creeping to PH gradually
PhonesRe: Ever Wondered Why Blackberry Smartphones Have No Radio by walcolm(m): 12:29pm On Sep 16, 2013
Worwor: Well, I upgraded my torch2 to the latest OS but, still no radio
install nobex radio...i was using nobex radio on my Bold 2 and i have it on my Z10 currently
PhonesRe: Ever Wondered Why Blackberry Smartphones Have No Radio by walcolm(m): 11:23am On Sep 16, 2013
Zet72: But does latest bb comes with terrestrial radio ( hard ware radio)?
yep, the hardware is there that is why there are radio apps available on the BBWorld

those BB devices that do not have the hardware to support the radio apps won't be able to install those apps.

if you can find the radio apps, and it doesn't show you a red flag that it is not compatible with your BB, that means your BB has the hardware component to make it work
PhonesRe: Ever Wondered Why Blackberry Smartphones Have No Radio by walcolm(m): 10:28am On Sep 16, 2013
dominique: 5.10 I think. That's the os that came with the phone and I don't intend to upgrade. I found about 100 radios on bbworld but was discouraged after downloading the internet radio. Are the real fm radios on the bb appworld?
BBOS5.1 shocked that is like committing a sin...how can you be using OS5.1? i stopped using my Bold 2 aka 9700 in January 2012 and i had been running OS 6 on it for more than 6 months before that

this is 2013 and you are using OS5? no nah...you can't complain if your phone has problem jor

the only thing you get when you update your BBOS is better performance. you are shortchanging yourself by sticking to old outdated software
PhonesRe: Ever Wondered Why Blackberry Smartphones Have No Radio by walcolm(m): 7:57am On Sep 16, 2013
dominique: I downloaded one thinking its the conventional fm radio. Turned out to be internet radio. I don't want to go the upgrade route jor. It messes up phones sometimes.
there are many radio apps on BBWorld. what BB OS are using?
PhonesRe: Download The Latest Blackberry Messenger 8.0.0.44 BETA Which Have BBM Channel. by walcolm(m): 7:52am On Sep 16, 2013
Chomzy19: Please House anybody who knows any interesting Nigerian or other channels, Shld drop the pin for Others to join... Been using it for days nw bt d channels I'm on are kinda dry, hv an interesting few tho
there's a search function in BBM channels that you can use to find a BBM channel to follow.

Because BBM channel is still being beta tested, its understandable that many people who are using BBM dont know about it (or are not ready to go through the stress of getting it from Beta Zone) and have thus not created channels yet. Once it goes mainstream, its going to be blow up big time and finding cool channels to follow will be much easier

jjagz: Thanks a "two mil". Still sad about the data compression though. Plus all this ish of BB10 and BIS wahala.
What issues do you have about data on BlackBerry 10?

Let me break it down some more for you.... there's no device on any other platform with the versatility of BlackBerry 10 devices! They are the only ones that can use any type of data. Bis, non bis, dedicated

The only reason they're having any Form of issue here in Nigeria is because MTN, etisalat and to a small extent, glo are deliberately blocking them on bis to force us to use the more expensive dedicated plan

jjagz: Was really thinking of upgrading to a Z10, until of course I discovered there is no Opera Mini on BB10. What a bummer. Walcolm or any other person please are there any verified sideloads that work? I can't loose all my bookmarks and content saved on Opera Mini. Infact why dem opera guys dey kill BB biznes na?? Mtschew.
NB: I know the native browser is good and all that but Opera Mini offers sweet heavenly data compression.
Thanks for the help guys.
you'll be short changing yourself if you dont get a BB10 because of opera bookmarks...see my earlier post on how to get your bookmarks
PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by walcolm(op): 1:30pm On Sep 15, 2013
kevd4all: Nope streaming doesn't consume less data than downloading I think they use the same amount of data..and hope u aren't streaming in HD cos that is even worse, with downloading u can choose the mobile format u want to download with depending on whichever download manager you choose to use, I use supertube 2 and it's download manager is awesome smiley
i have a theory that networks penalize streaming as opposed to normal download.....when you download 100MB file, you can see your data reduce by a commensurate amount, but when you stream, the reduction in data is disproportionate.

stream a 3 mins non-HD video on YouTube and you could loose more than 50MB when that same file downloaded is less than 20MB

moving bookmarks between browsers is a breeze these days....infact there are bookmarks i don't use any more but they perpetuate across PCs and mobile for me...Google chrome is the current browser bookmark king.....all your bookmarks move across all devices so long as you log in with your gmail account on the browser, it grabs all your bookmarks from all other google chrome sessions

my advise, log on to opera on a PC and then install chrome....give it the go ahead to grab your bookmarks from other browsers on your pC and you're set
PhonesRe: What's A Blackberry Capable Of That An Android Phone Is Not by walcolm(m): 12:13am On Sep 15, 2013
Lagusta: abeg lets face facts....

The only thing a BB can do is just PINGING!!! And that has been taken over by whatsapp...

A droid can play HD games, serve as a wireless hotspot, superfast downloads, over 600,000 free apps....

I know some BB fans will say bold5,6 and curve7 can also serve as a wireless hotspot, but i heard you need credit to do that, apart from the BIS subscription, but with a droid, its FREEEEEEEE!!!!!

Why buy a 100K Z10 when you can buy an infinix or tecno for 12-15K, with better value for money!!!
you have apparently not used a BB10 at the time you posted this...i hope you have taken the time to use one

HD Games are a breeze on the Blackberry. 2GB RAM, 1.5Ghz Dual core snapdragon processor is a beast most android devices dont have
Wireless Hotspot,
NFC,
WiFi Direct,
Bluetooth 4.0,
DLNA
Blackberry bridge are all available and inbuiilt
all the 900,000 apps available on the Google playstore can be installed on a Blackberry 10 device

Did i hear you say its only pinging BBs are good for?

you are free to buy a 12k Tecno but it can never do what a Z10 will do or give you the mobile computing experience a BB10 device will give you

incremental leaks don't bring new features....it's usually more stable iterations of the features...all the features from .1047 are still there but more stable

mikeamosu: hey ppl, please i'm about to get a z10 and i will like to know if i can use etisalat's regular bis on it. cos in my area its etisalat that is fastest, and if not which network's bis is d most advisable? i hope i wont have to subscribe to their expensive dedicated bb10 plans angry
10x
ETISALAT BIS AND MTN BIS have been blocked by both companies so they don't work on all Blackberry 10 devices...what i hear is that, only your BBM will work but other apps wont be able to access data

Airtel BIS and Glo BIS on the other hand work with Airtel being the champion.....
