maudoggs: pls I am new on this forum, don't even know how to post on the forum so i used this medium (HOPING I GOT IT RIGHT). pls start by teaching me hoW to post my question or comment on the forum.
secondly i am having DIFFICULTIES operating my new Q5. just got it and am having problems operating it.
I subscribed yesterday morning and since then till now i have not being giving my data plan. i subscribed for the comonth and glo customer care is attributing my non issuance to wrong subscription. Guys i really need your help.
1)what plan really works for the Q5?
2)CAN I set up emails using the BIS plan on the BB 10 series (Q5)?
3) how do i download music and videos from the internet into my phone.
All data plans work on BlackBerry 10 devices unless the services provider blocks it and that is the case with mtn and etisalat bis.

Even plans that are not BlackBerry specific work

2. Yes you can setup email

3. To download anything just touch and hold the link and a context menu will appear, select download and pick the location to download to. Default is the download folder on your device

pawn89: Ever since I got my Q10, have been paying MTN 3000 for subscription. I want to know if the regular subscription plan (BBC to 21600) would work on my Q10. If it will then I should start doing that, cos this 3000 for 1.5gig is a total rip off.
Thanks
The answer is no since you're using mtn.

On glo and airtel though, the answer is yes

Deblow: Hello house. I just got my own copy of z10 yesterday and as much as I have used all manners of phones before I am still finding the z10 really strange but thankfully enough I have a team of seniors here who would assist me in falling in love with the phone because I have other great devices like SGS3 SG Note2 and lately SGS4. Am going to serialization of my questions so that I don't mix things and don't miss things too.
My first question is about the monthly subscription on z10 on mtn. It is on the high side. Pls is there any way I can use any of the existing plans on the regular bb on z10. ..like the bis and the bbm. Please enlighten me on this first. Thanks
MTN and etisalat intentionally block regular bis subscriptions on the BlackBerry 10 devices.

lymelyte: I am using my fone as a mobile hotspot.
If that's the case, BlackBerry 10 allows you to set the password when you enable mobile hotspot. That password will be used by other devices to connect to the wifi created by your q10

Denn: was updating yesterday....had an issue with the wifi and the update restarted.....the thing went up from 166MB to 840MB....sad

hope the update shows remarkable improvements? i amcurrently on 87%.....
what has happened is that a new OS (for the identified carrier) is being downloaded for you fresh from the servers rather than just the incremental update

lymelyte: Bro,i did it and got to a stage where it asked for network security key.i don't know what to type.
when you are using your own andriod phone as a hotspot..you are the one who sets the network security key or you can use the automatic key generated by your android

Go to 'settings' ... navigate to 'Portable Wifi'
once you enable it, it will show you 'HOW TO CONNECT other devices. in that text you will see the network security key you should use

Like I said before don't listen to those clowns in glo customer care.

If you call them you should be asking them to activate your bis rather than giving them your BlackBerry pin and imei
PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by walcolm(op): 7:05pm On Aug 01, 2013
I didn't have that issue when i bought my z10. When it asked me to connect to a wifi, I had the option to skip and there was no sim in it the first time I switched it on

@Sydney01, my advice would be, put the sim in another phone to be sure the bis has been activated.

Another thing to note is, for bis to work you need to set the APN to BlackBerry.net but a new device won't give you that space to check so a wifi or hotspot would be your most viable option to get the phone up and running

sydney01: If I switch it on widawt a sim, it prompts me 2 insert a sim to connect 2 a mobile network or connect with wifi. Nah I switched it on when I got it newly and switched it ryt back off. Jst called glo to knw if its cos im not using the BB10 plan and dey said the BB10 plans are just for z10. Im 4kn confused
Don't listen to those clowns in glo. Forget them

When you switch it on and it tells you to insert a sim or connect to wifi, there should be an option to skip connecting to the Internet

Confirm if that's the case
PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by walcolm(op): 5:41pm On Aug 01, 2013
Another thing you can try is to remove the simcard and switch it back on

If it says it needs to connect to the Internet, skip that process

Is this the first time you're switching it on?

lymelyte: @justfree,wetin u know,u know nothing of everything. see dis julie ooo.. do you think all bb 10 bar files work on bb 10?
do you know when i started sideloading.you jjc to bb 10..fyi,i have started using bb 10 before it came to nigeria
Gents,

pls lets keep it civil. we have managed to get this far together and i dont think we need to resort to name calling to push any point

we all want the same thing..we use BB10 devices and we want to get the best out of it whether native or sideloaded apps

pls lets just drop this particular point...

FACT
there are apps available to be sideloaded to a BB10 device but not all apps available will work on all BB10 devices. don't forget that porting android apps to the QNX platform is a highly unregulated and uncontrolled territory. although Playbook, all touch Z10 and Keyboard totting Q10 and Q5 are all built on the QNX but they will react differently to different ports because of the differences in screen dimension and the fact that the guys coding the apps are not getting paid for the job they are doing and will most likely not check to be sure a single port can run on all the devices

that is what accounts for the differences in usability experience for sideloaded apps and games

I guess i'll use airtel then...or maybe glo i dunno yet i'm in uniport. Hw do I go bout the micro-sim thingy iv neva used one b4 shae I fit employ my sharp scissors lipsrsealed
congrats on your shiny new Q5..i can assure you, you'll love it.

glo is pretty decent in ph in my experience (i get H level signal in town) and the fact that you get 3gb for the same price as Airtel's 2gb gives them an edge in your case.

cutting your current sim to a micro-sim size is quite easy and the glo office can do that for you easily. there's something called a sim-cutter that does a clean job

even before putting a sim card into the device, if you have a place where you can connect to a wifi, go there and connect, check for software update and pull the 10.1MR version so that you get rid of any manufacturing/warehouse evil spirit grin that could still be left in the device

if this is your very first BB ever, you need to register for a BBID- (your email address and any password of your choice). i will advise you use your MAIN email address as your BBID. if you have been using or used a BB before, you need to remember your BBid details and the device will pull all your data (contacts, BBM friends, text messages etc) from the BB servers and you're good to go in no time

if carrier billing is not available in nigeria, then why are they shipping blackberry fones here?i am using a gtb mastercard and i also have a token which works perfectly. And as a matter of fact,i have bought items online with my card so i see no reason why i cant use it on bb APP WORLD.
carrier billing is a situation where the cost of an app or service gets charged to your airtime credit...it has nothing to do with Blackberry as a company but the network provider

for your card to work, it needs to be registered with your name aka BBID

when you go to 'Settings' look for 'Payment Options' at the bottom of the list..if your card is already accepted as a viable payment option, your transaction will go through without a glitch
