Kalu reportedly told his visitor how he was eating in prison. A report by The Nation indicates that the former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu, narrated how he was being fed in the prison. Legit.ng had reported how the Senate chief whip was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over N7.65 billion fraud perpetrated while he held sway as Abia state governor. It would be recalled that Kalu became the governor of Abia state when he was not yet 40 and ruled the state for eight years between 1999 and 2007. According to the newspaper, Sentry gathered that the reality of his new condition did not dawn on Kalu until some of his associates began to visit him in the prison. It was gathered that a few days after he landed in prison, one of his business associates was said to have paid him a sympathy visit but was shocked at the pitiable picture cut by the former governor, who was said to be wearing a pair of bathroom slippers. “See me now eating in the prison,” a pensive Kalu reportedly told his visitor, who struggled to find the words that could console him. It was also learnt that Kalu's erstwhile colleague as governor, who spent some time in incarceration, also visited him. The report had it that the flamboyant ex-governor advised him to stay strong and regard his travails as another phase of life. Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, the president of the Court of Appeal, revealed how her court was able to avert delay that would have clogged proceedings in criminal cases including the recently concluded trial of Orji Kalu.

APC has reached end of its journey under Buhari's administration says PDP. According to PDP, Nigerians are looking for alternatives in PDP. The party alleged that Buhari government put millions of Nigerians out of employment. The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has reached the “end of its journey” under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared. This was disclosed in a statement on Friday, December 27, by Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP spokesman. He said Nigerians are looking for alternatives in the PDP. Going further, he added that history will not be kind to the APC administration. According to him, APC under Buhari recorded various failures including “putting over 40 million Nigerians out of employment.” “The fact is that the verdict of history against the APC and its administration has become inevitable and the APC, as a party has reached the end of its journey,” he said. “President Buhari and other APC leaders should know that Nigerians have already moved beyond the APC and are now contemplating a candidate on the platform of the PDP to fulfil their collective hope and quest to rebuild our nation.” “Indeed, history cannot be kind to the APC and its administration for their extreme treasury looting and exploitation of citizens; wrecking of personal businesses with its harsh policies that put over 40 million of Nigerians out of work; causing so much hardship and insecurity that compatriots resort to killing themselves and slavery mission abroad as options,” he said. Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the preparations for the 2023 presidential elections are now in top gear as the lead opposition PDP has kickstarted the move to produce a consensus candidate. According to Legit.ng, the first step planned by the PDP was to engage its members nationwide so as to produce a consensus candidate who will be accepted by all. Legit.ng gathered that the party also plans to reconcile all its aggrieved members in a bid to put up a strong and united front and dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in 2023. This was revealed in Kaduna by Senator Walid Jibril who is the PDP's Board of Trustees (BOT) chairman. |
The land was originally meant for government secretariat, the state government says. According to reports, the land is situated right in front of late Dr Olusola Saraki’s residence. The Kwara state government says it has taken over a piece of land being used by the family of Saraki in Ilorin. This was disclosed in a press release by the chief press secretary to Kwara governor, Rafiu Ajakaiye on Friday, December 27, 2019. According to him, a new secretariat would be built on the land. He also disclosed that the land was originally meant for government secretariat and parking space of the civil service clinic. He added that the land was unlawfully allocated to a private firm, Asa Investments Limited, without any record of payment to the state government. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that part of the land, situated beside the civil service clinic, is also right in front of late Dr Olusola Saraki’s residence. NAN also reports that late Saraki built a house and named it ‘Ile Arugbo’ (elderly peoples’ home). According to the statement, no certificate of occupancy was issued in favour of the firm. |
The ban on members of the opposite genders boarding the same commercial tricycles in Kano state is a subject that has divided opinions in Nigeria. Aanu Adegun a journalist from Lagos in this opinion subtly emphasise the error in the move by the state government. To uphold Islamic values and curb immorality in Kano state, Governor Ganduje has banned members of the opposite genders from boarding the same commercial tricycles. To me, this is a fantastic development. And I want to side with all those telling southerners that they have no right criticising the governor because the issue is a Kanawa business. They are right, the governor must stamp out immorality in Kano - Opposite genders must not board the same commercial tricycles. We need morally upright people to create jobs, factories and stop the poverty in the state. And how we can make this happen is to make laws like this. Though Saudi Arabia, a rigid Islamic country is planing to create £400bn 'western' sports city with relaxed laws for women and workers and where fans can even drink alcohol, I still stand with Ganduje. Saudi is different from Kano. I want to encourage the governor to make it holistic. I mean, I want the state to ban men and women from attending the same market, using the same office, entering the same bus while travelling, going to the same schools - In fact, all tertiary institutions in Kano should be male only or female only. You know young people can be amorous sometimes. I bet you, with policies like this, there won't be corruption in Kano state, outright stealing of public money will become a thing of the past, there won't be underage marriage, women abuse will be eliminated and so much vices in general will disappear. And Kano will become a better place for all. So ladies and gentle, I stand with Kano state government on this. |

Here are 7 ideas: 1. SET A BUDGET. You must decide how much money you want to spend. Think through all the different aspects of holiday shopping: gifts, travel, food, decorations. Divide your budget into the different categories. 2. BE AWARE OF RETAIL TRICKS. If merely creating a budget was the only thing needed to keep us within our spending limits, we’d be all set—not just for the holidays, but for life. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case. Even with budgets firmly established, many of us overspend. One reason this happens is because retail stores are shockingly good at getting us to part with our money. 3. LIMIT SELF GIFTING. One of the most significant holiday trends over recent years is the increase in “self-gifting”—people treating themselves to presents when they are out shopping for others. LImit yourself in this regard. 4. CUT DOWN ON CONVENIENT EXPENSES. Some of the most hidden costs of the holiday season are “convenience” expenses. Some expenses appear minor but they add up quickly, making you spend more. 5. ESTABLISH EXPECTATIONS EARLY. If you decide to cut down on the number of Christmas gifts you will be giving this holiday season, it is important to establish those expectations early. If you intend to take a new gift-giving approach to your extended family, it is helpful to inform them early about your decision and why you decided to make it. 6. TRACK SPENDING. One key component to wise financial stewardship is to track your spending on a daily basis. Because of the extra shopping during the season, the importance of tracking your spending during the month of December cannot be overstated. And you do not need fancy software or materials to accomplish this step. It can be completed with a simple piece of paper and pen—at the end of each day, just record the items you spent money on that day. And compare it regularly with the budget you created. Avoiding overspending during the holiday season may not be easy. It certainly requires extra time and effort. But trust me, your January-You will thank you for it.

Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, has advised against giving permission for others to transact with one's account. Badmos revealed that someone was recently arrested after he unknowingly allowed his friend to do a fraudulent transaction using his account. In light of the prevalence of internet fraud, police PRO, Dolapo Badmos, has once again taken to social media to share some useful piece of advice to help innocent people from getting implicated in fraudulent activities. Badmos via her Twitter account warned people against letting others use their bank account for transactions. According to her post, someone was recently arrested after a fraudulent transaction was carried out using his account. In his defense, he stated that he only borrowed his friend the account to use and never knew the money being transferred to his account was obtained through false means. Badmos ended the advice by saying ignorance is no excuse before the law. She wrote: "Don't ever "borrow" anyone your account number to receive money, your account should be for your own usage..someone is in custody for borrowing a "friend" his account, he never knew the money they are transferring through him is fraudulent. Ignorance isn't an excuse before the law." |
A recent Appeal Court verdict continues to generate reactions in the polity. An earlier ruling had disqualified the deputy-governorship-elect from participating in the Bayelsa State governorship election The Appeal Court judgement reversed the ruling and stamped the victory of the APC in the election. The deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Yekini Nabena has hailed the Appeal Court judgement reversing an earlier Federal High Court ruling. The ruling had disqualified the deputy-governorship-elect, Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo from participating in the Bayelsa State governorship election on Saturday, November 16 before the appeal court's decision. Speaking to journalists on Monday, December 23 shortly after the judgement in Abuja, the Bayelsa-born APC chieftain thanked the people of Bayelsa state for their dogged and unflinching support for the party and its governorship and deputy governor-elects. Nabena said: “Going by Monday's ruling by the three-member panel chaired by Justice Stephen Adah, the legal action undertaken by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was a clear case of abuse of court processes. “The PDP abnitio knew that they had no case but insisted on taking everyone on a wild goose chase. That is the beauty of democracy and the rule of law. The PDP have had their opportunity to see through their case, however baseless. “We can now look forward to the handover date when Bayelsa will be rescued from the failed administration of Governor Seriake Dickson and the PDP. “Bayelsans can also now look forward to the administration of governor-elect, David Lyon which will usher in pro-people programes and also support and consolidate on President Muhammadu Buhari's developmental and Next Level agenda for Bayelsa state.” Meanwhile, just weeks to the end of Governor Seriake Dickson's tenure in office, alleged burglars recently raided the Bayelsa Government House and disappeared with the sum of N3.5 million. The incident was confirmed by the deputy chief of staff to the governor, Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown, whose office was burgled.
